First time visiting this location , it was awesome to start. The decoration is nice. The food : i ordered Bavarian Nuremberg which was to say delicious. I had two toppings on it which was the grilled onions and the peppers. Let's just say i'll be back again. I got the tator tots (wolfstyle) which is with Beer cheese, pickled peppers, caramilized onions, and bacon and chives. So good. Could not finish them because i was stuffed. I had the waitress pick out a beer for me. It was a nice light beeer. As far as the atmosphere it was nice , theyvhad live entertainment which he was singing great songs. Sadly, this is NOT the Der Wolf that was so loved before the shutdown. Normally, I'm not the type to give a poor review, but this was really unpleasant. Came in for dinner at 6pm on a Friday night, the outdoor seating area was dead, with nothing but loud and uncensored music blaring from the speakers. So loud we couldn't even hear the servers speak to us. Then came the construction noise from a worker re-enforcing a platform for the DJ due to play later in the evening. The servers were doing their best, though seemed un-informed on the menu. The food we were served was ok, but pretty lackluster. Part of Der Wolf's former charm was their array of choices of German food, European & craft beers, and the calm atmosphere of a modern German Biergarten. It took extra effort to even get the condiments we were looking for - namely not even salad dressing for a salad that was ordered. Now, the place fits in more with seedy tequila bars in Ft. Lauderdale or the Vegas suburbs, than in old town Pasadena. I understand if a place changes management and you need to do what you need to do for a profit, but have the decency to change the name of the place if it's no longer selling either German beer or food, and instead trying to sell bottom shelf tequila coolers. I wish I didn't have to do this, but the experience was kinda heartbreaking. read more

My girl and I decided to get out for a few hours and wanted to try something new. Pasadena was always so off we went to check out Der Wolfskopf. Right away we were blown away by the atmosphere of historic decor. Walls are covered in hand painted Murals that gives you that pub feel. We had kale salad which was very fresh, the classic frankfurter and a chicken schnitzel and there is sauerkraut me high is very good. The food was incredible accompanied by an array of delicious beers. Definitely have to go back and try more beers and things on the menu. This is a great place for drinks, food and fun. read more

We have had a very bad experience overall due to a couple of employees in this brand new establishment. These people were more worried about the image of the new bar than their service of their customers, which I believe is not the proper practice for an upcoming bar that JUST had the Pasadena Star News take pictures to feature an article about this place. Der Wolfskoph is not a huge club that has a dance floor that causes issues with other people, but a simple dining and drinking place for people after work and after hours. They have good bar foods and great selection of drinks. However, if you're even slightly drunk (such as an acquaintance of mine), they will NOT take care of you. They will kick you out as soon as they have your money and the opportunity This up and coming bar who wish to solidify their placement as one of the great bars of Old Town Pasadena, they're doing an extremely poor job at taking care of their customers. I STRONGLY advise against going to this bar if you want to have a great time. If you display an inch of lack of self control (I mean, who has not in the time of celebration such as the success of a company), they will kick you out with no concern of yourself. There were only TWO servers that were of help of us and continually offered us water. The other employees of this bar, however, did not share the same sympathy as these two sole employees. We will remember not the two sole employees that helped us, but the rest of the employees that were so keen on kicking all of us out to preserve their image. We will not go to this bar until it's an entirely new establishment or these set of employees have been replaced with people who know more about the hospitality needed for food and drink service. Again, I STRONGLY advise against this bar and look for more friendly bars in the more mainstream Old Town Colorado bars, as they've had more experience in being friendly towards customers. read more

This place opened up pretty much as soon as I moved out of Pasadena, which is a true bummer for me. I dig this place, and I'm sure I'd be a regular if I lived nearby. If and when I do find myself in Pasadena at night, I definitely make sure to stop by. It's a bit more intimate than your typical Pasadena bar, with dim lighting, cozy booths, and a nice long bar area to socialize at. It's still relatively new, and, consequently, lacks the overcrowded quality that a lot of other nearby bars suffer from. They offer up some intriguing brandy-based cocktails, along with other specialty cocktails and drinks. As mentioned in the other reviews, Brady is a bartender to make note of. He knows his ingredients, and it comes across in his cocktails. And if you don't see anything on the menu that tickles your fancy, he probably can still make you your favorite cocktail, and he can make it well. It's a late night spot (opens at 8:30) and can be somewhat pricey for the area, so I wouldn't call it a 5-star bar. That being said, though, it's certainly a great place to enjoy the night and it offers something a lot of Pasadena bars simply don't - solid, hand-crafted cocktails. Recommendation: bring your friends or a date you're trying to impress, and indulge in some quality libations. read more

Drove past this restaurant a couple weeks ago and decided to go grab some food there. I love the name of the restaurant and the interior felt very laid back. It wasn't that loud it was good enough to enjoy food and talk with people. We tried the Oak Beer Bratwurst with jalapeños, beer cheese and sauerkraut! It was delicious!!! We also ordered the Wolf Burger the beef was cooked perfectly and really juicy. For appetizers got the tater tots (wolf style) & the cheese plate they were both amazing. What a delightful descent into Hell... Amazing Sacrilegious artwork, wonderful cocktails, perfect lighting, great big booths. This place is a hidden treasure and I can't wait to visit again. Hubs had the Old Fashioned (boy was it STRONG - he LOVED it) and I had "the Misty". It was citrusy and sweet and gave me a nice exalted feeling. Oh, Der Wolfskopf. You enticed me with your German beers, your tots and your secret underground bar. We went to Der Wolfskopf last night with a group of 10. They were super accommodating and nice. Great customer service! I emailed back and forth with someone and he was awesome. Anywho, beers = awesome, tasty and delicious. I personally enjoyed the ones I got in the big beers steins. Those were my favorite. Food = delicious. We had the sausage and cheese plate, the tots, the tots smothered in deliciousness, the pickle jar and....I can't remember what else. But it was all great! Those tots though... Oh and they have board games. Add board games to anything and it instantly makes it like 10x better. After dinner we went to the bar downstairs. It was super low key and awesome. I would give this place a 4.3 out of 10 First off, the happy hour is not as advertised. It's not 5-8 with $5 beers. It's 5-7 with $2 off. Pretty annoying to show up at 6:45 thinking you have a nice happy HOUR ahead. Second, the food and kitchen were terrible. The bartender appoligized to me for how long my food was taking. He said it's because the table behind me just put in a huge order. I turned around and it was a table of 4. It was just me 2 other people at the bar. The kitchen can't handle 7 orders??? Not only that, I then received a very average Frankfurter that was more or less just an average hotdog. They managed to burn it and bring it to me cold along with cold fries. The service was quick/friendly and the ambiance was nice...until a staff member decided to turn on the red and green disco lights (it wasn't even 7pm yet!). I got the Kielbasa sausage and was disappointed with the weak flavor. My friend got the pretzel and kale salad and those were a disappointment too :(. The pretzel's texture was doughey and chewy and the kale salad didn't have much flavor either! It tasted like it was tossed in oil only. Loved the downstairs lounge bar and the music on a Friday night was a great mix of hip hop, old 90s and pop, top 40. Perfect vibes! Der Rathskeller saved my life. No joke, I came here over the winter break around 10pm when it was 37 horrible degrees outside and nurtured the cognac old fashioned in about 30 seconds. It wasn't my preferred old fashioned, a little more on the sweet side but it warmed me, body and soul. I made short work of the cocktail list and enjoyed the creativity around some of the cocktails. They were all well-balanced, nothing too syrupy sweet and there was a great beer selection to help with the soul warming thing. The walls are painted...creatively. There is ample seating and while it's not a speakeasy it boasts pretty well-made cocktails. DR also doesn't cross that line into music blasting nightlife likeso many bars in old town seem to do. Found this place by accident and it was well worth the stop. Oktoberfest is in full swing and I hope the popularity doesn't dwindle once it's over. Aside from the fun German ambiance, the food was delicious. I had Das Benedict which was eggs Benedict on potato pancakes with asparagus, it was excellent. I'm told by my boyfriend, the cheddar wurst was just as tasty, and we shared the spatzle Mac which we both plan to get again. Even better, they were all $12 or less. Located in a dimly lit downstairs room, the atmosphere was welcoming for those looking for some privacy. I had a really lovely night at this bar. The underground setting is cozy and the decor is tasteful. What really stood out about this place was the cocktails (mostly brandy based I think), which are really well-made. I had a Georgia Julep. It was refreshing, juicy, floral, and gorgeously decorated. I sipped on it for quite a long time, and really had a good chance to savor it. Our bartender Brady was really knowledgeable about all the brandies/whiskies/gin. He was patient with my friends and I, and wasn't a bit arrogant with a bunch of newbies like us. We sampled some excellent brandies and a violet liqueur that blew my socks off. Everyone I bring here also falls in love with it, just because it's so great. It has a very cool ambiance and the staff is always so friendly! Such good cocktails and shots.
