Haven't visited Der Dutchman in a while. This review is not for the restaurant. We haven't eaten here yet. This is a buffet for 19.95. We had just finished eating at Yoder's and wanted to do our own Sarasota Amish tour. Dee Dutchman is a good size two floor building with all things Amish. We started upstairs. This is their gift shop. Lots of different gift items here for the family. Afterwards, downstairs you will find the restaurant, bakery and market, restroom, & two banquet rooms and restroom. The market has many baked items, breads, jellies, candy's, coffee, cake, etc. This is a fun shop to check out and you may take some goodies home. Everything is very nice and welcoming! In the back lot, you will also find an Amish Owned Hotel Called Carlisle Inn. So Der Dutchman is convenient for those staying there.

Always love a good Amish buffet! Wait time: seated within 5 minutes Atmosphere: cozy, country restaurant, crowded and loud Service: friendly server, like any other buffet, they only come around to refill drinks Food:plentiful and delicious, you can also order off the menu Price: $$ Cleanliness: could use a touch up but we did go during rush hour

Good ole heart attack fatty comfort food. It's Cracker Barrel Amish style. Commercial sheen to it so that it could be an Applebees. The gift shop of quilts isn't home made, so there's that. Preserves whoopie cookies, pies, salts rubs canned items all from the Amish lifestyle. All in all it's an experience you gotta have and love

Great place to visit it's massive and has about everything. The dining is either buffet or they do have a menu to order from I suggest the buffet it has a decent selection Friday seafood was great fresh baked salmon and fried cod plus all the normal buffet items fried chicken mashed potatoes etc. salad bar was fresh and well maintained. Dessert was some of their fresh baked goods service was quick decently friendly and for the size it was pretty quiet. Like Arnold said I'll be back

Der Dutchman was a place I'd heard about and looked up, so we decided to stop on the way back from Sarasota. The place is huge and was very busy, but the buffet stayed well stocked. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. Buffet has tons of options--fish, beef, chicken, salads, desserts, and bakery items--something for everyone. Upon walking in the gift shop and bakery are musts in checking out. First time here, and while I don't think I would go out of my way just to visit, it was definitely worth the price and a solid stop if you're already in the area.

Good Amish food, good service. The place is pretty large, has a reasonably priced buffet or you can order off the menu. There's also a bakery, a store, honestly kind of gives that Cracker Barrel mixed with a retirement community vibe, in a good way! It's great comfort food spot, don't expect a fine dining experience here and you'll leave satisfied.

One of my favorite places to visit. The food is amazing and service is speedy. I've only done the buffet both times I've been and it has been really good. There are 3 different sections with food to pick from and ice cream is included.

Stopped in for lunch. The wait staff was very nice. Got the Cod sandwich which seemed like it was made fresh and not a frozen reheat. The fish was a little mushy. Cole slaw was the side and it was not that good, seemed premade. The dinner yeast rolls were amazing. I could eat an entire tray. Got the strawberry rhubarb pie slice and was given the option for it to be warm with a scoop of ice cream. Served cold was fine for me and it was tasty. The bakery and gift shop was really neat. I would go back when it's not so busy. But are they busy all the time?

Came in because of the reviews. First impressions were very nice when you walk in the front door and the little store was really neat. Then we went to the restaurant. Wasn't worth the hype. Felt and tasted more like a diner lunch than anything. We had the chili which was oddly sweet but not bad. Also spilt the 4 piece chicken dinner which was the reason for coming in. Chose mashed potatoes and noodles for the sides. The chicken seemed overcooked. Almost like it was taken off the budget and warmed making it dry and tough. Unfortunately we did not enjoy our lunch at all. The inside was the highlight. Pretty neat.

If you're looking for authentic Amish comfort food at an amazing value, Der Dutchman is the place to go. Their all-you-can-eat dinner buffet is only $18.99, and it's worth it. I started with their salad bar, which was loaded with fresh vegetables and a variety of salads. From there, I moved on to the dinner options and filled my plate with turkey, ham, slow-roasted beef, and broasted chicken (similar to fried chicken). Every single item was absolutely delicious. The side dishes were just as impressive--mashed potatoes, creamed corn, noodles, and green beans were all cooked to perfection. To top it off, dessert was included. It was a chocolate sheet cake with rich chocolate icing. That's how I like to end my meal. If you're hungry for hearty, homemade food, Der Dutchman is a must-visit.

Der Dutchman Sarasota 7-30-25 What a good place to eat. We stopped by on a Wednesday about 5:45pm and this place was busy. It has a large Gift shop upstairs, Food and Bakery downstairs which my wife loved. There is an Elevator for those that cannot do all the steps just to the right of the restaurant entrance. Lots of items there but it's a little pricey. I bought some Amish Noodles and sweet Bologna as its hard to get back home. Once inside the restaurant we got the Buffet, but you can order off the menu if you want. The Buffet has a ton of items on it, and you serve yourself. I will name a few food items on the Buffet, Ham, Turkey, Ribs, Brosted Chicken, Meat Loaf, Roast Beef, Smoked Sausage, Baked Fish, Salmon, Mac & Cheese, Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Carrots, Corn, Green Beans, Noodles, Baked Apples, Stuffing, Rolls, Cake, Pie, and a huge Salad Bar just to name a few. There is something for everyone on the Buffet. They will bring you some Ice Cream to finish up your meal. The waitstaff was fast refilling our drinks and answering any questions we had. This place is huge and very clean for all the people they serve. I for one can't wait to go back. I give this place a 4 out of 5 stars. Follow Me On FB For More Reviews & Fun. Gulf Coast Terry

This is an Amish buffet. They had a lot of variety. They had a store like Cracker Barrel. Service was great.

Is it kid friendly and how much for 2 and 3 yr olds?

I think it depends on how picky of eaters your children are. It is a buffet style dinner, so there is quite a bit to choose from. (I'm sure they'll love the desserts!) But as far as the food goes it's home cooked items like meatloaf, chicken,…

Is the Dutchman open on Christmas Day?

    No. Closed.

Is this a food buffet or a sit down order off the menu restaurant? And least busy times to go there?

There is a food buffet but you must wear provided gloves to dip up your food. Use clean plates upon return to buffet and clean gloves each time you approach the buffet

Good Morning , Can u please tell me where ,i can buy a Purple Three wheeler bike, for an adult the price with a motor ,with out ,and a basket on it .Thank u soooo much Have a Blessed Day?

Not at Der Dutchman they sell food and small kitchen items. Try any bicycle shop.

Actually, just get there early anyway because the pastry items are fresher/better. There's indoor and outdoor seating. I typically skip trying to park next to it and just go to the garage and walk over. The service is more attentive than a typical French cafe overseas but not as on top of you as a typical place in the US. You can definitely order at the counter in French if you want to and I've had a waiter there flip between English, French, Spanish, and another language (maybe Romanian?) in one order. The sandwiches I've had were all lovely, and had a little side salad that could benefit from a better dressing (they serve an okay vinaigrette though). I've yet to encounter a single bad pastry - the elcairs, mousse cakes, and flaky pastries like chausson pommes are on par with the typical boulangerie/pattisserie in France and don't make me think US adaptation at all. Prices are reasonable.

I got the poularde crepe, wanting something savory. This was solid and tasty. Everyone else got nice little meals as well. I do feel like the portion and the quality is a little lacking for the price. That being said, I don't know that there are better French options in the area. I also got a palmier pastry and I should have gotten a croissant, the palmier tasted a little stale. The locale was adorable, with beautifully tiles tables really setting the scene. Overall, not terrible! Worthwhile if you're really feeling French.
