Haven't visited Der Dutchman in a while. This review is not for the restaurant. We haven't eaten here yet. This is a buffet for 19.95. We had just finished eating at Yoder's and wanted to do our own Sarasota Amish tour. Dee Dutchman is a good size two floor building with all things Amish. We started upstairs. This is their gift shop. Lots of different gift items here for the family. Afterwards, downstairs you will find the restaurant, bakery and market, restroom, & two banquet rooms and restroom. The market has many baked items, breads, jellies, candy's, coffee, cake, etc. This is a fun shop to check out and you may take some goodies home. Everything is very nice and welcoming! In the back lot, you will also find an Amish Owned Hotel Called Carlisle Inn. So Der Dutchman is convenient for those staying there.

Der Dutchman was a place I'd heard about and looked up, so we decided to stop on the way back from Sarasota. The place is huge and was very busy, but the buffet stayed well stocked. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. Buffet has tons of options--fish, beef, chicken, salads, desserts, and bakery items--something for everyone. Upon walking in the gift shop and bakery are musts in checking out. First time here, and while I don't think I would go out of my way just to visit, it was definitely worth the price and a solid stop if you're already in the area.

Always love a good Amish buffet! Wait time: seated within 5 minutes Atmosphere: cozy, country restaurant, crowded and loud Service: friendly server, like any other buffet, they only come around to refill drinks Food:plentiful and delicious, you can also order off the menu Price: $$ Cleanliness: could use a touch up but we did go during rush hour

Great place to visit it's massive and has about everything. The dining is either buffet or they do have a menu to order from I suggest the buffet it has a decent selection Friday seafood was great fresh baked salmon and fried cod plus all the normal buffet items fried chicken mashed potatoes etc. salad bar was fresh and well maintained. Dessert was some of their fresh baked goods service was quick decently friendly and for the size it was pretty quiet. Like Arnold said I'll be back

Good ole heart attack fatty comfort food. It's Cracker Barrel Amish style. Commercial sheen to it so that it could be an Applebees. The gift shop of quilts isn't home made, so there's that. Preserves whoopie cookies, pies, salts rubs canned items all from the Amish lifestyle. All in all it's an experience you gotta have and love

Good Amish food, good service. The place is pretty large, has a reasonably priced buffet or you can order off the menu. There's also a bakery, a store, honestly kind of gives that Cracker Barrel mixed with a retirement community vibe, in a good way! It's great comfort food spot, don't expect a fine dining experience here and you'll leave satisfied.

One of my favorite places to visit. The food is amazing and service is speedy. I've only done the buffet both times I've been and it has been really good. There are 3 different sections with food to pick from and ice cream is included.

Stopped in for lunch. The wait staff was very nice. Got the Cod sandwich which seemed like it was made fresh and not a frozen reheat. The fish was a little mushy. Cole slaw was the side and it was not that good, seemed premade. The dinner yeast rolls were amazing. I could eat an entire tray. Got the strawberry rhubarb pie slice and was given the option for it to be warm with a scoop of ice cream. Served cold was fine for me and it was tasty. The bakery and gift shop was really neat. I would go back when it's not so busy. But are they busy all the time?

Came in because of the reviews. First impressions were very nice when you walk in the front door and the little store was really neat. Then we went to the restaurant. Wasn't worth the hype. Felt and tasted more like a diner lunch than anything. We had the chili which was oddly sweet but not bad. Also spilt the 4 piece chicken dinner which was the reason for coming in. Chose mashed potatoes and noodles for the sides. The chicken seemed overcooked. Almost like it was taken off the budget and warmed making it dry and tough. Unfortunately we did not enjoy our lunch at all. The inside was the highlight. Pretty neat.

If you're looking for authentic Amish comfort food at an amazing value, Der Dutchman is the place to go. Their all-you-can-eat dinner buffet is only $18.99, and it's worth it. I started with their salad bar, which was loaded with fresh vegetables and a variety of salads. From there, I moved on to the dinner options and filled my plate with turkey, ham, slow-roasted beef, and broasted chicken (similar to fried chicken). Every single item was absolutely delicious. The side dishes were just as impressive--mashed potatoes, creamed corn, noodles, and green beans were all cooked to perfection. To top it off, dessert was included. It was a chocolate sheet cake with rich chocolate icing. That's how I like to end my meal. If you're hungry for hearty, homemade food, Der Dutchman is a must-visit.

Nice place, food options aren't so much. It's good for a first time visit. The pies are pretty good.

We were in Sarasota looking at some items for our home. It was decided that we should have lunch since it was approaching Noon. We have a number of usual locations that we normally try, but this time we decided to give Der Dutchman on Bahia Vista a try. On occasions in the past we attempted to eat here but the line seemed too long. This time we were seated quickly and the server was promptly at the table wanting to know what we wanted to drink and provided menus. Given all we had heard about the buffet at Der Dutchman we decided to give it a try. The selections are extensive and we tried numerous items. It turned out that all of the choices we made were enjoyed. If you are looking for home cooked country meals, this is the place to go. You will enjoy your meal.

The parking place had ample parking where you needed a mobile app to pay for your parking. There was a larger souvenir store there if you needed to kill time before your seating. When ordering our foods, the kids asked what type of drinks they had since it was not listed on the menu. She said Coke but didn't elaborate that they had Coke products. Since she said Coke so fast our daughter didn't hear the response and asked her the question again where she just said that's a great question and ignored her and moved on. Food wise - we had the Peruvian ceviche, Peruvian chicken, I think I had a special grouper dish. The food was good. We were able to eat everything and the kids enjoyed their kids burger meals. Outside of the waitress comments, the place placed nice modern music to listen to and had the basketballs games playing on the tv at the bar.

The menu - though not expansive - offered a fish, a steak, a chicken, a pasta, a burger, wagyu meatloaf, salads and several other options, appetizers, a full bar & wine. The four of us were very pleased with the food, service - and live music (guitar/singer was excellent). Overall experience, 4.8 stars out of 5. For that, we'd definitely return. However - the parking experience was a fiasco. Given this was our first visit, my husband circled the hotel/restaurant twice as the clogged pull-in area was full and there was no valet in sight. Also / no signage to direct us. Finally - my husband opted to pull into a reserved lot behind the hotel/restaurant and temporarily parked as I sought someone to direct us.... I walked past the valet "station" - nobody there (perhaps busy with other guests) and I headed to the restaurant to request assistance with parking. My husband followed shortly as he found the valet and asked if ok to leave the car - the male valet handed us a parking placard and said he'd take care of it, no problem. Ten minutes later a young lady valet approached our table - telling us she dug thru my glovebox to find us - asking if we realized she could have us towed. Beyond rude. We attempted to tell her the other valet had checked us in - but she continued down a shaming diatribe at our table - telling us how folks park back there illegally, etc. When we asked to speak to a manager, the young lady valet informed us that her company was a third party and she was not employed by the restaurant so our dissatisfaction with her rude & threatening behavior was nothing the hotel or restaurant manager could do anything about.... Eventually she walked away /her nasty attitude intact - and the male valet squared things so we could enjoy a lovely dinner. When exiting, no valet in sight again, we waited at the pull-in area where two other couples stood next to cars asking us where they were supposed to park or find the valet. Another couple were standing next to their car asking where the valets went, waiting for their keys to depart. Fiasco. Time for a better valet system! So Wink Wink gets a 5 but the valet is a big negative. We live here year round and there are too many options in Sarasota to deal with a valet threatening to tow us at our dining table.

The inside atmosphere is bright and airy and although airy often translates to loud, Dry Dock thoughtfully put noise dampening panels on the ceiling. As far as food, I don't think you can go wrong. On my most recent visit I got the grouper filet with coconut shrimp because I had originally been eyeing up the coconut shrimp as an appetizer. Ultimately, we decided to get the rock crab claws for an appetizer which were good but more work than I planned even though they were pre-cracked. I felt like a Neanderthal trying to eat those crab claws in such a nice restaurant. No offense to the Neanderthals, of course! I have no idea what my husband had as it disappeared. Best meal I've had in 2026, and will easily be in the top three this year, I feel it in my soul…read more Went here on a date and first of all... this place is gorgeous. The food is also beautifully plated (my pics are of my leftovers shhh). My server took the time to suggest me a lovely floral white wine and took great care of our table. The food not only looks beautiful but tastes phenomenal. I got the duck egg bolognese (if you love lamb get this, if you don't then avoid) and the cauliflower gratin. This deffo will not be my last time here.

May 2026 update - Pepino Refresco - cucumber & jalapeño infused misguided tequila blanco,…read morepineapple, green chartreuse, agave and lime 2 out of 5 - although the green chartreuse combined with the pineapple juice gives the drink a pleasant color, the intrinsic sweetness of the green chartreuse with the agave made it feel off balance, cloying and slightly awkward; I'm not necessarily about complaining or returning a drink so I did ask for more pineapple and lime juice to balance out the drink; as the drink's recipe currently stands, I would not order it again or recommend it, the idea of using a cucumber & jalapeño infused blanco tequila is lovely but I'd rather have them build a margarita with that base spirit instead of going for the Pepino Refresco recipe as it is on their current menu in 2026; the intensity of the chartreuse flattens the delicate infusion that was used to prepare the tequila Mushroom Parfait - grilled baguette, torn lion's mane mushroom, shaved truffle, herb salad - *add this to the "one of the most delicious things I've eaten" list* - this dish had me delightfully impressed unlike anything I've had before! The delicate, fresh greens had the perfect ratio of light vinaigrette dressing. It was so pleasant to add a modest amount of the mushroom emulsion on the baguette and follow a bite of that with the greens. Truly a must order dish if you like mushrooms. French fries - you can't go wrong with the french fries here, go ahead and ask for a side of any aioli they offer you to have them with, I'm definitely ordering these again here
