BLUF: Consistent food and service served in an old train depot. I love trains so I am a bit biased when it comes to dining at Station 400. Station 400 is not the fanciest of places, in fact, it's like a diner but I love how consistent the food and service are. We've visited many times for breakfast and the wait staff has always been friendly and attentive. We like that our food comes out fast and just as expected. On most of our visits we have sat inside but recently we enjoyed the outdoor patio. Station 400 is located inside a circa 1850 train station from Indiana. One of my favorite breakfast spots in Sarasota. There's indoor and outdoor dining, the outdoor dining is a covered patio, where they allow dogs. They do provide water bowls for dogs on the outside patio. We went with a large party of 11 adults and a baby. Bonnie, our server, was fantastic. She got all of her orders accurately, and went above and beyond in taking photos of our family. Above and beyond meaning she literally stepped up and into a planter pot so that she could get our full group in one photo. The wait wasn't too bad for our food to come out considering we did have a large party. My favorites from station 400 are definitely the pancakes, but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I will say they should change the truffle eggs Benedict to be named mushroom eggs Benedict because you really can't taste the truffle. Our group ordered a mix of pancakes, waffles, French toast bites, jalapeño biscuits and gravy, Club sandwich, steak and eggs, and more and everyone all enjoyed the food! I even ordered a club sandwich to go with regular fries and I popped it in the air fryer. Four hours later. It was still perfect and toasted. Loved all the cheese on there. Wowzy!! Went there for the first time. Enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Salmon eggs Benedict with homemade lemon dill hollandaise sauce. So tasty!! Also my companion had homemade corned beef hash with eggs and toast! Great breakfast spot with outdoor seating. Highly recommend. read more

All Aboard the Flavor Train My girlfriend Ivana and I recently brunched at Station 400, which is cleverly housed in an old Indiana train station. The vibe is as solid as the menu. We started with separate mimosas--my blood orange hibiscus and her elderflower, cucumber, lemon tropical vacation in a glass. For mains, my Breakfast Burrito was a glorious, hefty freight train of flavor, while Ivana's Station 400 Omelet was a sleek, elegant express train to Refinementville. But the real destination was the shared plate of Blackened Shrimp and Cheesy Grits. The grits were a creamy, cheesy dream, and the shrimp had just the right spicy kick. It was so good we immediately declared a temporary, fork-based truce to share it fairly. Final verdict: Station 400 delivers a first-class trip to Flavortown. 5/5 stars. read more

If you know me, you know I never skip the sides section on any menu. At Station 400, I lucked out and found biscuit with chorizo gravy side. And ooohhhh I'm glad I ordered it. Thick creamy full of flavor and the biscuit is the perfect size to scoop up every last drop of the gravy. My new obsession is pancakes so of course that was my main. Meyer lemon curd and blackberries, what could go wrong. I guess a lot. First I was told they messed up my pancake order and have to redo them so I'll need to wait. No problem:) good things are worth waiting for. However once they did come out I wish they had tried again. The pancakes had a bitter aftertaste.. too much baking soda I'm guessing. I ate the blackberries, picked at the top layer bc the lemon curd was delicious, and left the rest because I had a flight to catch. I bet third time would be the charm but I didn't have more time to spare. The service was excellent though. And I really loved the toy train zooming above the register area. So neat! Stopped in for lunch to Station 400 as it was rated high and lots of others had good things to say. We were seated immediately and we began looking through the menu. It was lunchtime and the restaurant was fairly full. The waitstaff all seemed to be working together and dishes were steadily coming out of the kitchen. We ordered a station 400 chipotle club and a spicy chicken sandwich.... The club great and was ordered with sweet potato fries. I ordered regular fries with the chicken sandwich. You need to look at the pictures. This thing was huge. It was freshly batted chicken breast that had nice heat from the spice and was so juicy inside. The service was exceptional. Brought us a sample of the spicy aioli sauce to make sure it wasn't too spicy, and helped us make an educated decision on our breakfast. I rarely give five stars but Station deserve it for every reason to review a restaurant. First off the food is great, breakfast and lunch. The steel cut oatmeal is one of the best I've had. Great texture, nutty , but soft with fresh blueberries and seeds mixed in. All omelets are fresh and dry, no greasy residue. Veggies are fresh as well as fruit. Pancakes are great, moist but not too heavy . Service is top notch, everyone is so kind and professional. It's also a cute place representing an old train station from early part of the 1900's . It was my first time eating here after living in the area for 8 years. I will not go back ... the avacado toast was not real avacado - it was packaged guacamole, and some sort of weird processed radish or something. I'm not really sure what it was! We were in yesterday around 11:30 am and were seated immediately. 15 minutes later we were finally greeted by our server who literally walked by us 10 times in those 15 minutes and never said hello or I'll be with you in a few. That was a head scratcher. I had the biscuits and chorizo gravy with pulled pork. Pulled pork was tough and over microwaved. Eggs and hash browns were delicious. My wife had the salmon sandwich and my wife said it tasted as good as it looks. (Very good). To the short, young girl bussing tables..............no one wants to see your coochie when you leaned over to clean the table. What the hell is wrong with the management that allows this? Server was nice, $41 bill and left a $9 tip but he shouldn't have gotten that. Again walked by us at least 10 times while we were eating and never asked if we wanted refills on our coffee nor did he ask how everything was until we literally just finished. We shared the French toast bites to start & they were delicious. They have a wide variety of breakfast & lunch options. Disappointed. I'd been to the location in Lakewood Ranch, and recall the food at that location being much better. Spanish omelette seemed to have been cooked at too high of a temperature so that the eggs were not fluffy. It was supposed to have chorizo...it seemed to have some kind of meat in it but it was definitely not chorizo. Husband added avocado to his omelette, but the avo was seriously underripe and tasteless. Kid's sliders were dry and tough, and the buns were toasted so they were stiff. Kiddo ate the cheese off the sliders and that was about it. At least the fries were good - very good, in fact. And the milk that comes with the kids meal is huge - a whole day's serving of milk. I've always liked Station 400, they have seating inside and there is also a patio area outside. The building is a reconstructed small train station, and they have a model train running along a track close to the ceiling. Love places that have some character. For my visit today I sat inside and ordered their Truffle Eggs Benedict. The truffle oil sure smelled good when it was brought to the table, and it was a key flavor for the dish. Included on my plate were a small salad with mushrooms and some hash browns. I like the color and freshness of something healthy like the little salad, in my limited experience a common item in Europe. I prefer home fries to hash browns, the former give restaurants an opportunity to come up with something really good at the risk of just getting fried potato cubes, whereas the latter is always just a pile of shredded spuds. Yet with the truffle Hollandaise involved, the hash browns seemed particularly good today. As for the Benedict itself, the eggs were cooked properly, the Canadian bacon was a little thin and tough. Love the ambiance. Really cozy, and has lots of windows for all that Florida sunshine to stream in. The food was really delicious. I really wanted to try their cinnamon roll pancake but didn't want to order the huge stack of 3 and they let you order just 1 and charge it as an appetizer. Also tried their cheesy grits and fresh fruit. The grits were great, its hard to find good grits for some reason, they're usually bland and filled with regret, but not these. Their cappuccino was forgettable, I wouldn't recommend it, kinda tasted burnt and the service was too. I'm hoping it's because it was Labor day and they were busy. You could tell they wanted us out fast, which normally would bother me but at least she got the order right and the food arrived quick and was really good; would eat here again for sure. read more

I love this cute spot for breakfast with the family. They have a nice sized menu, gluten free pancakes and bread and a train track with an electric train running through the restaurant to keep the little ones busy when they're done eating their one bite of pancakes that they were so hungry for and promised to eat 2 whole plates of! Damn kids. My kiddos both got something off the kids menu, my wife got the French toast bites and omelette and I got the steak and eggs. Portions were nice and everything was fresh and hot off the grill. The steak was a little under seasoned but I don't usually expect to be dazzled with a breakfast portion of steak. I didn't take any stars off but I did have a suggestion. It would be cool to have tiny plastic or wooden trains for the kids to play with at the table. There are a few very hard and breakable ones down at kids level but nothing for them to actually get their hands on. It's a little rough on parents who have to pry breakables from their kids hands especially when the only reason we're even at this restaurant is because we promised the kids we'd see some cool trains. I recently moved a few blocks away from here and a friend suggested we go for brunch to celebrate my arrival in Sarasota. She said it was "pretty good" when she had been there, but she understated it. From this first experience the food is *really good,* such that this might very well become my favorite breakfast restaurant. She had the fried green tomato benedict and I had the smoked salmon benedict, both of which were beautifully presented and topped with a delicious, lemony hollandaise sauce. I was curious, so I also ordered an "add-on" biscuit with chorizo gravy. My friend ordered her fried green tomato benedict with turkey sausage instead of bacon, and it didn't quite gel: the sausage was much too flavorful relative to the rest of it. (Maybe something for the wait staff to consider saying to a customer who doesn't want bacon?) But otherwise it was quite good! My smoked salmon Benedict was divine. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked, and the capers and pickled red onion on the side were tangy and complementary to the salmon, which was quite delicious (such that I might want just a little more of the salmon on it next time). I don't like tomatoes all that much, but the slices here blended well into the overall taste. The perfectly baked southern biscuit with a nice chorizo gravy was yummy, with a subtle spiciness that made me want to order more next time, perhaps the entrée version. We both had the cheesy grits on the side. They were exactly what you'd expect (although they might be better if they were slightly cheesier). The coffee was perfect to my taste for completely drinkable diner-type coffee. In addition to the great food, the service was outstanding. Our waiter was attentive and helpful (bringing my friend some extra milk for her "little bit of coffee with milk" ), and she was assisted by an efficient and friendly staff. We sat inside, where it was a bit too loud. I had trouble hearing some of what my friend was saying. (This is mostly my problem, not the restaurant's.) There is no question I'll be back. And soon. Everything on the menu looks worth trying. We didn't order mimosas (this time!), and the overall check with tip was about $27 a person. Worth every penny! read more

i ordered the huevos gringos, but i was in more of a breakfast mood so i switched the chicken for bacon. it was great! also really happy to hear they could accommodate my substitution, i know a lot of popular places like to avoid those. i definitely prefer this location to the LWR one, because the atmosphere is more unique and less magazine like. this one is cute, the patio is great, the seating is cozy and the vibe is very old florida. also my server Megan was great, and so was all the other staff who just stopped by to check on how i was doing. 10/10 place read more

I've come to this place several times over the years since I love their crab cake benedict and its location. But when I came yesterday, it was quite disappointing. There was about 10-15 min when I arrived which is usually expected as it is busy on the weekend, but we were seated pretty soon. My mom and I ordered a couple of large mimosas (the regular is the champagne flute and the large is a wine glass). I ordered spicy mango, thinking something crafty- it was just reg mango mimosa w/ a slice of jalapeno. Too pricy for what it is, meh. The food tasted great as I always had; we had a crab benedict and smoked salmon benedict. Poached eggs were cooked to perfection and our order came out as we asked. My main issue was the service. Not that we waited before seated, but our server became nonexistent basically after our food arrived. He only asked if we need anything when we received our food, didn't see him at all until I was done and some time passed. To get our check, we had to get the host's attention who was passing by because our server was on the opposite side of us not paying attention whatsoever for at least 15 min. The coffee could be stronger but then you'd want to sit longer, but not inside...it gets a little loud. Pancake dough was disgusting, left two pancakes behind. They give you a little scoop of cheap margarine and that's supposed to cover 3 pancakes. Not enough crappy syrup either. Hashbrowns felt like rewarmed and made two days ago. Egg benedicts, what a joke. I got one egg, and the other one was just egg whites... Even the English muffin felt old and re-toasted, super thin too. "Roasted" mushrooms were straight out of a can. Seriously disgusting breakfast at so many levels, but sure they charge well. Inside was cooler but so crowded & incredibly loud you couldn't hear yourself think never mind your lunch companions! I ordered the fried green tomatoes, BLT. It was served with an aioli that had so much mustard in it I couldn't taste any other ingredients. Boo! Mustard on a BLT? I love their Mimosa offering and since I can't drink carbonation, it's great to because they offer still wines instead. The strawberry orange mimosa is delish. Loved this train station themed restaurant with a great staff. I loved that the menu had the restaurant's story and the touches that stayed true to the legacy of the restaurant, like the small train running in the ceiling and the way the tables were made with copper. The food was delicious, and the options and recipes were new and inventive while also staying true to the classic dishes. Everything was hot and fresh, and the food came out quickly. The pomegranate mimosa was refreshing and they also had plenty of other non traditional flavors like blood orange hibiscus. My fried green tomato Benedict was excellent.
