Customer service here is just non existent. Every question and inquiry is met with condescension or a rude comment. Which makes sense why the shop, aside from the people behind the counter, is COMPLETELY empty. Their prices are double what you can get product for almost anywhere else. This place is grungy as hell... and the employees are definitely not happy to be there. We walked in to get some cards because we wanted to get back into MTG. They sold us commander sets and we don't even know how to play commander style! We just wanted regular cards. Used to frequent the place but policy changes have made it a less desirable place to shop. Had the owner, Phil, openly scold an employee in front of me earlier tonight, while digging through one of their many unorganized boxes of magic cards. He's getting on the employee for not digging through that box earlier that afternoon to pull all of those cards (the ones I was looking for) that they had in that box out of the box so the website they price the cards by had a chance to update their price. I now understand why the employees there always have this "kill me now" look on their face, I'd feel the same way, working for an ungrateful boss like that. I've been coming here for board gaming night for a few years now. On that front, it's an enjoyable experience. The owner/worker is always friendly and has table space available for us, even though it is very clearly a MTG-first establishment, which makes sense from a business perspective. Even thought they know who I am, every time I walk over and peruse the board game selection, one of the workers will always walk over and ask if I'm looking for anything in particular. Lots of people on here complaining about their no outside drink policy, and while that did throw me off at first, it does make sense. Especially for the board game crew who aren't spending a lot of money there (compared to the Magic players). I almost always buy a drink when I'm there now to help support them. I do agree with others that the bathrooms can use a little more attention at times, but overall my experiences with this shop have been superb. read more

Really? Not a single review? DCG has been at this location for almost a year now and it usually pretty busy with a very loyal fan base so I'm shocked to be the first. FIRST! Now that I've gotten that out of my system... Full disclosure: I am biased. My partner Sean is the store manager and we are very good friends with the owner Phil. That being said, I've been to many a game store and I will be as object as possible with this review. DCG was formerly Troll Country Games at Hampden and I-25 but went under new ownership and moved to its current location shortly thereafter. The old location was in the basement of an office building, so the move to an actual retail space was a big improvement. Unlike many of the game stores around town that focus on selling food or retailing, DCG is set up to be a place for the gamer community to gather and spend time together. There's a small retail area that takes up about 1/3 of the total space and the rest of the store is tables with gamers playing miniatures, specialty board games, and of course Magic the Gathering, which is the biggest draw for the store and their primary focus. The first thing you'll notice when you go to DCG is that it is "no frills" - there are minimal decorations, the walls are white, and the tables and chairs are of the plastic fold up variety. That's about the only negative thing you can say about DCG. The selection of board games, cards, and miniatures is very good and they are happy to special order anything not in stock or keep their eye out for the card you are looking for. The staff are all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and will not just make you feel like a valued customer but like a friend, a part of the community. I like to think of DCG as a "secular church" of sorts - a place where like minded people can to come together and stay as long as they want. DCG does TONS of in-store events and tournaments and encourages people to stay for hours on end. They've got a good selection of drinks and snacks that are cheap - $1-2 - and if you need something more substantial there's a new Arch Pizza that opened next door. If you're looking for a game store in your area that you can spend time at, make friends, and feel welcome, this is the place to be. read more

I have only gone in a couple of times, and each time has been less than satisfactory and a jarring reminder of why I do not frequent the store despite living about a mile away. First off, if you want something other than Magic cards or their accessories, good luck. The selection is scarce and limited to a single corner. Second, if you go at any time there is an event going on, be prepared to feel as though you are about to get mugged by the half dozen or more smokers right outside the door. And get used to the smell of their cigarettes and vapes because... Three. The store reeks of body odor, cigarette smoke of varying varieties, and possibly last week's Hot Pocket which you dropped beneath the sofa and forgot about. And if people are fine with it, saying it keeps the customer base to those who don't mind (or heaven forbid, enjoy) that smell such as a previous reviewer, more power to 'em. I had to step away from people a couple of feet away just to breathe. The only thing which earns this store a 2-star rating is the staff. They are knowledgeable even about games that aren't Magic, at least enough to answer basic questions. Which is fine. You cannot expect every store to have every employee know about everything. They are also enthusiastic in talking about it, even if a sale is not imminent. Bottom line: If you want a store which lives up to the stereotype of gaming stores, smell and all, this is your place. But I'll go elsewhere. read more

So I just started a new job down the street from DCG found out that they run edh on Monday. I Went in with intentions of playing edh and purchasing a few cards. I came in was looking over the shoulder of an edh game with deck in hand and maybe a 1/4 of a warm energy drink, when the clerk approached me and say "we have a no outside drinks policy" in my opinion a kinda of pretentiously. I said ok and tossed it out, then proceeded to walk out vand left. Heads up DCG I would have finished my drink and purchased another one as well as purchased singles, but your no outside drinks policy and manner in which you told me blew my mind! If you are monitoring my beverages I'm baffled that this is a main source of income, it's not like I had a cooler of drinks? Only store in Denver I know of with no outside drinks policy. Sorry DCG lost my business tonight and future coming Mondays. read more

I had made a mistake I'm willing to call myself out for, I jumped to conclusions about this shop and more specifically Cody. I had said that they had given me really bad service but I didn't realize the how busy the place was at the time and I had great service afterwards and Cody is a really nice person, we had a lot in common being in customer service and was all out really funny! The staff/owner of this place are terrible. They have a no outside drink rule. I had a water bottle, which I need for a medical issue. I was forced to dump it out if I wanted to stay. The had a local come in with a water bottle and nothing was said to them. In an industry run by customer service, I have never been treated so poorly. Would not recommend this place for anything. read more

I am a DM and get all my stuff from here. I love supporting local gaming shops and the guys at DCG are fantastic! The discounts that they have can rival online costs. The environment of game nights is always great and non-judgmental. This place is extremely helpful and the staff is extremely knowledgeable. read more

Ok. Time to start boycotting Denver Central Games. They have Magic products like BFZ fat packs in stock yes but they $60 here not $40 like the MSRP. We are not talking about FTV limited products. We're talking fat packs. So, to be sure. This place is a total ripoff and they are exploiting the system. Reviewing local businesses is not as some might think a flippant and half hazard kind of an affair. I would not want people judging me and posting it on the internet in a public forum. However, I feel the need to support DCG by reviewing the store. And that is exactly that: My reviews are here to support, any constructive criticism I provide is exactly that. There are things that DCG just does great: The "Rated R Game Store" atmosphere, knowledgeable and personable employees (mostly) and a mostly nice community of players willing to throw down. There are things it can improve on: such as frequency and thoroughness of bathroom and play table cleanings and the floor. Even if they keep it as is I will still be going though. read more

This place has a decent selection of board games for sale, but I would describe the interior decorating as "industrial" and there was something in the air that definitely made me feel light-headed after being there for a while, which made the whole place seem a little sketchy. read more

If your looking for Magic Cards this may be the place for you. I liked it when it was Troll, then they moved and someone else bought them and it went down hill for what i need. I only get 40k stuff (minis, paints, etc) and some puzzles\games but at the new location if you don't speak the Magic language they ignore you. I waited over 10 minutes at the counter last time while the "employees" argued over some card, then i got the "Oh your only getting warhammer stuff huh" comment when I paid. I don't mind the cussing and whatnot, but the smell can get pretty bad. I find it funny that the regulars don't care for the "elite people" who complain about cleanliness and not smelling BO, but guess what its that $ that helps keep the store going. I hate to say it but I'll take my 40k needs to Hobby Town up the street or if i am desperate enough the 40k store on Colorado. Plus the location is sketchy as hell. I seriously don't feel safe leaving my vehicle in that parking lot for a long period of time. read more

There's a lot of room to play, and that's where the good things end. First, the 2 employees behind the counter looked like they hadn't taken a shower in 2 weeks. Second, it smells heavily of cigarette smoke and weed smoke. It's just uncomfortable when you are suffocating during your match. Third, they allow e-cigs in their store. They can claim that it's harmless all they want, I still don't want that smokey garbage in my face, and I don't want to breath it in. I tried to buy a few singles, and the guy who tried to sell them to me (I believe his name was mitch) was giving me played condition cards and charging mint condition prices. I obviously didn't buy them. I will not be coming back to this store, and I'll make sure to let my friends know that this isn't the place to be if you want a decent, professional environment to play Magic in. read more

I find myself here allot. The guys that run the store are all nice to me. They are very knowledgeable about Magic. A few of them know about board games. They have a schedule of what is going on every week and it does not change. It makes it really easy to know what is going on. read more
