The tuna towers here are simply gigantic. Usually splitting a tower plus some roll and maybe a couple pieces of sushi is enough for me and the bf. Rolls are big too compared to pretty much all other sushi places I've been to. If I were to come here by myself, I probably couldn't eat more than one roll. Overall, this place has a good variety of fresh rolls as well as decent oyster shooters, though latter could use more caviar and higher sake to sauce ratio ;) read more

The over all taste was good. The fish quality was surprisingly great, I was happy withthe quality. I ordered the heavenly roll and the red mountain. The heavenly roll was poorly put together, I couldn't get a single entire piece in my mouth, it kept falling apart. I had the same problem with my other roll. The service was just sad. I don't want to say who my server was, but he kept forgetting everything we asked for and there were about three other tables other than us. This restaurant is a small volume place. Wow! HUGE rolls. Good sushi that gives you the most bang for your buck. So many times my husband and I will go eat Japanese, and we spend so much $ only to have him still hungry afterwards. We actually had leftovers! The Ahi tower is a supersized tower, and tastes great like all other Ahi towers I've had. Fresh salmon, a large variety of rolls. It's still good after the previous owners sold it, the menu is exactly the same and yes, it's still crowded on a Friday night. The main difference I noticed is that there is more rice in the rolls, and the presentation has gone downhill slightly. Rolls aren't as tightly wrapped, servers are reaching between guests at any point who are sitting at the bar. I recommend they remove two seats to have a proper "pass" so that guests conversation isn't interrupted by an elbow. Lion King roll, uni (sea urchin) and mackerel were all still on point. The super crowded bar left my friend and I with hardly any elbow room to use our chopsticks. Though the food is still delicious, I don't think I would come back to fight for a table on the weekend, maybe for lunch or dinner during the week. read more

This is arguably the best sushi in town, and I always go here when I've got the sushi cravings. Their rolls are HUGE! Don't expect your typical small rolls, because Densetsu has the tastiest big rolls ever. They're really busy over the weekends, so come early or expect you wait a bit before seating. Seating arrangements are pretty close, so get cozy with your neighbor. The staff are always welcoming and friendly, and are nice. On busier evenings sometimes service is backed up, but I'm naturally a patient restaurant eater. Some might not be so patient. Fish is fresh, and tastes fresh. Couldn't recommend this place more. If you're expecting lightning fast service, this might not be your place. If you're coming for atmosphere, great sushi, and don't mind a reasonable wait, then Densetsu is the place to hit up. I absolutely love Densetsu. It's one of the best sushi restaurants in the North Dallas area. I always order the Ahi Tuna Tower and Red Mountain Roll when I come here. Everything is fresh. We get good service and we always leave more than satisfied and always extremely full. Hahha! We recently visited the restaurant and had a tiny problem and the owner took care of it right away. She is always so nice and always making sure we're doing great. The Ahi Tuna Tower has big tuna chunks along with the spicy tuna in it. The Red Mountain roll consist of a california roll wrapped in fresh salmon and topped with spicy tuna and drizzled with spicy mayo. It is absolutely divine. My gosh, almost every roll I've had there has been delicious. I will continue to come to Densetsu when I'm craving sushi, which is all the time!!! read more

I have always strayed away from eating a sushi restaurants because I never feel full after I leave (unless I order 3+ rolls) and this is the first place I actually leave full, it's amazing. This place is delicious. The atmosphere is good and the waitress/chefs all great you with a great "Irrashaimase!" or "Welcome!". I came with some friends and ended up spending about 30 bucks, but it was well worth it. Had the Sunset Roll which was done near to perfection. Absolutely melts in your mouth, had a few other rolls and some sake as well. And had delicious green tea mochi to top it off. Plus since it just opened, the chef offered us a free Baby Lobster Tail Roll. Which was one of the most amazing food items I've ever tasted. The chef even came over and personally handed it to us and told us that it was very expensive lol. The place is very lively and good live music as well to help the whole experience. EDIT: Oh I'm just adding that the whole thing I found wrong with the place was that sometimes the sushi falls apart a little too easy, but then again, this isn't a big deal. I come here pretty often. The food is always great, but this is the most inefficient run restaurant I've ever been to. For example tonight we were on a 25 minute wait which is normally not a problem, but tonight it was since the restaurant was half empty. The hostess is running around and waiting tables. When we asked to be seated at the half empty sushi bar we were told that it wasn't time to seat someone in that section. I wanted to update my last review. Densetsu is still a great place for sushi, and have no problem with the quality or quantity. The thing that I notice is the service is a little lacking. The wait staff that services the sushi bar leaves something to be desired. For instance, they never ask if you need another refill (be it beer, water, or wine). You can finish your beverage of choice, and stare at your empty glass until your check arrives? Also simple requests as can we have or soup/ salad BEFORE the sushi is served (as our meal) are not completed. The waitstaff takes your order and disappears. Since the restaurant itself is extremely small (cozy) where they go is beyond me? If Densetu could step up the service factor (not by the Sushi Chefs which are excellent) this really could be an outstanding restaurant. read more

I've been looking for a great sushi place in Plano and decided to try Densetsu. The sushi menu had a ton of rolls to choose from. The presentation was beautiful for everything I ordered, the ingredients were fresh and tasted great. The rolls were cut into pretty large pieces, so come prepared to stuff your face with sushi! It was busy and the place is small, but I always take that as a good sign that a restaurant is crowded. The staff was understandably a little slow since it was packed inside. This Japanese restaurant is situated in a random building. It's a pretty small and cutely decorated place. They serve traditional Japanese cuisine, like your basic udon, donburis, sushi, etc. They have a lunch happy hour where you can get bento boxes, I believe it ends before 3pm so come early! I got the spider roll for $8 dollars and got a beef donburi for $10. My boyfriend got just the chicken donburi and it was $9. I thought the prices were a a bit expensive for what the food was because I thought they would serve small portions but was I wrong. The donburis came with miso soup and a salad! I believe all their entrees came with the complimentary soup and salad. On top of the free soup and salads, the entrees themselves were huge! My boyfriend and I were full from just eating the soup, salad, and sushi roll. So we to-go'd both our rice bowls! TL;DR: Food for the price is good. Place is clean and small. After passing by quite a few times, my wife and I decided to stop in for some dinner and try this place out. I would describe this place as Sushi for the western palette. The portions are huge (which is not a plus for me personally, but most people would say you're getting your money's worth). The service is great, with the staff being very friendly and attentive at all times. The decor is modern, and the overall it looks welcoming and clean. Unfortunately, the food itself, while fresh, is drenched in the same sauce and covered with the exact same garnishes, regardless of what roll you order. I can tell you that there are other places in DFW that are more traditional rather than American-fusion sushi. Would I come back? Probably not. What used to be one of my favorite restaurants has gone downhill! I used to make it to Densetsu about once a month; however, it started getting more crowded and some of the regular chefs and waiters left. Today I went and was told it would be a 30 minute wait. 45 minutes later, we were finally seated. The hostess finally came back and said the server was busy and took our drink order. After delays in taking food order, we were told they ran out of rice! I looked back and sure enough, all of the chef's were standing around, waiting. Once we got served, the couple who was right before us had already finished their meal and gotten their check. We were there for about 2 hours, but only 10 minutes was eating because we were starving by the time the food got there.. I also had to ask for the check twice. Let me start off saying that I love this place and would eat there every day if I could. Densetsu is amazing because it isn't your typical sushi joint. They do have traditional rolls you will see every where you go but they have certain rolls you won't find anywhere else. GIGANTIC rolls you won't find anywhere, which will have you leaving full not like other sushi places. I usually can eat like 4 rolls by myself and not feel full but here I can barely eat two rolls by myself, that is how gigantic they are. Wow!!! What an awesome restaurant. My wife and I despaired finding a good Japanese/Sushi restaurant that could compare to what we ate while living in Japan. Densetsu is the closest thing we found to that. It is some of the freshest fish we've had in a while. Besides regular pickled ginger, every dish came with some kind of small relish which consisted of spicy pickled ginger, shaved beets, pickled carrots, or bean sprouts. Umm these rolls are ridiculous. I mean really?! Ambience: the dining room is small but it is comfortable. There's a bar where you can sit and watch the chefs create their masterpieces. Food: pretty big menu...udon, sushi, sashimi, ramen, rice bowls...all that. I've only tried the special rolls so far, and my favorite roll is probably the Dynamite roll which is a creamy, delicious, mix of yumminess that is onions, mushrooms, scallops, baby lobster (or is it crawfish?)...all over one tasty California roll. Yes, yes, yes. The Lone Star Roll is next up - it's a creamy crab mix with avocado, deep fried. Oh yeah. And that house sauce they serve with it...[insert whistle]...it is pretty sweet. The Baked Salmon roll and the Tiger Roll are not to be missed. These two are darn tasty as well. I plan on working my way through all the rolls that sound amazecraze to me. Pricing: the average cost of a roll is somewhere around 12. Their online menu describes all the dishes and gives you pricing. If only they had a happy hour or half price roll day...my tummy is aching just thinking about the grueling work out I'd put it through. Try this place! read more

After Koharu sushi, our favorite place, closed, my fiance and I were reluctant to return, because it would only remind us of Koharu's greatness. I came here on my own and tried the spicy tuna roll, which was very fresh and had eight big pieces, and the tempura shrimp roll, which was California roll with four large tempura shrimp and sweet mayo sauce. They even gave me a free dish of something that I took home and will save for lunch tomorrow--I couldn't fit anything more in my stomach. They have completely redesigned the place--it's a little more modern than Koharu, no fireplace, no bamboo (which made Koharu so cozy!) :( The food was excellent. The only thing that bothered me was the music--Lady Gaga and Rihanna. I really don't want to hear teenybopper music when I'm trying to enjoy a meal. So happy I was able to get back to Densetsu... And it did NOT disappoint!!! We absolutely love this place. Once again, the rolls are awesome and enormous. We normally gauge about 2 rolls per person but of course, that is highly over shooting here. This time, we went for our favorites- the Superman Burrito and Jay's Favorite and then added in the Ahi Tower, Popcorn Lobster, Pinky Promise, and Heart Attack. I'll break them all down. The Ahi Tower was HUGE and awesome - done. Popcorn Lobster roll is a spicy tuna roll in a bowl with piles of fried pieces of lobster on top - great flavor, lobster had a touch of sweet to it... Good but wasn't life shattering. Pinky Promise - a variety of spicy seafood. We were split on this. I felt like it was good but mushy and my sister in law loved it. Heart Attack - involves a deep fried jalapeño filled with various things. I didn't have much of this one but the others seemed to like it. The bottom line... Any critique I have is simply preference and no reflection of a lack of quality. This place is the bomb and if you're a fan of sushi, especially unique sushi, this place is a MUST. Hands down one of my favorite sushi places I've ever been to. Experience: The overall experience was decent, the place is small and the floors are not the cleanest. There wasn't very many tables so if you would like to go, make sure you make a reservation before hand. Also, I would not recommend to bring a large party here (6+ people) mainly because the place is small and their are not enough servers. It also takes a while to get the food, around 20-30ish mins. (which is expected because it's sushi) Food: The food is delicious, if you go I would recommend the Ahi Tower. I love, love sushi and this place makes It well. The sushi is fresh and crafted well. The portion size is fair, not the best when splitting with people. The rolls are bigger than your average, but look to be spend 15ish-20 dollars if you would like to be filled. Service: The service is my complaint. They are nice, and young and hardworking, however there are just not enough people there. I had to wait a while to get a refill on my water, and to separate checks is kind of a hassle. I had to call on the servers to order, they only checked on our table a like 2 times and we were never really sure who our server was because they were all helping each other. This is probably the first place I will go to if I want sushi, and despite the many places I've tried I never go back to a place as often as this. The take away from this review is that this place is NOT a japanese style sushi place despite it's fake, and from skimming the reviews, blatantly wrong attempts at trying to appear japanese. It's owned and served by Koreans, and they have their own effects on the sushi, namely making everything as big and unwieldy and non delicate as possible. However, the food IS good, the fish is good, fresh and never icy. It's always served as either mashed up, or sliced into thick uneven chunks and piled on to the sushi. For all intents and purposes, I will just review the ingredients since all rolls are just some kind of variation on another: Huge, falls apart, has good fish, has wonderful chewy rice, and the ones that come with krab or spicy tuna are jammed with it. That's probably my only contention with this place--everything is just piled on to the sushi that you start to wonder why it is that they pile on so much. For example, my boyfriend and I ordered the tuna tower like we always do, only this time we tried the salmon. It came with a HUGE, and I mean HUGE 4 inch diameter scoop of krab. The waitress kept insisting she smush it down for us. We figured out why. There was barely any salmon, but if you mashed the tower together, you wouldn't be able to tell, since everything is all mushy pink and white. Essentially paying $16 for about 3 pounds of krab rice. We sent it back for more salmon. Presentation is beautiful, in terms of how the rolls are arranged. The rolls may fall apart the moment you lift them up, but I've always seen them stacked or displayed in some flower like pattern, copiously drizzled with sauce, piled high with some shredded filler veggie that just gets thrown away. Everything seems pricey but TRUST me. One sushi roll per person. That's more than enough. The portions are that gigantic. You can leave with enough leftovers for a few more meals, depending on what you get, the tower is one of them. I've gotten the superman burrito, Jay's favorite, pinky promise, cherry blossom roll, and some other things I don't remember. No regrets; I've been coming here for three years now and have ordered Jay's favorite 99% of the time. Lots of fresh salmon chopped on to spicy tuna rolls and topped with fried onions. All the ingredients are good, so it follows that any roll would be good as well. For the other dishes I can't speak for much as I never order them. My boyfriend says the ramen is unremarkable: Expected, as this is not a ramen shop, and the chicken teriyaki is also relatively bland. Large portions still. Tldr; Everything here is huge. Don't be greedy and order too much. Not really authentic, everything is doctored so it's not delicate "Enjoy the fish" slivers of sushi. The fish isn't the star here. The size is.
