Menu is super straight forward with burgers and salads on the one side and wraps appetizer and soups on the other. Menu is well laid out with lots of burger choices and several salads to choose from. Hubbs had a cup of chowder, came out hot and full flavored. He also ordered the French dip, came with side winder fries, which are big and delicious. I ordered the Oriental chicken salad which was big and flavor filled. Very tasty and lots of chicken!! As this IS a bar and grill, there were tvs on with sports, pool tables being used and various conversations going on...however WE could still talk and be heard w/o shouting. Place is clean, servers are quick and friendly - would return again and tell others to stop by as well. A great place!

At one point in the night, there was a table celebrating a birthday and the whole restaurant joined in on the happy birthday song which was very cute. Prices are similar to the Keg. I ordered the scallops, a Caesar salad and the masthead steak. Everything was very well made and they were very accommodating to substitutions. I did expect a bigger and more elaborate "show" for the Caesar salad since it was made at the table but there was no announcement for it nor was there anything special. We skipped on desert because the portions were so generous. Will definitely come back another time I'm in town.

At the time, it certainly lived up to its reputation. Would that still be the case on our return visit? Read on... THE ROSES: Lovely ambiance. The dining room is spacious, classy, and peaceful. They also have a very large deck overlooking the marina for outside dining on nice days. The staff is efficient, accommodating, and gracious. THE THORNS: Staffing issues in the kitchen meant rather long waits for food to come out. To their credit, the server did let us know when we came in that this was the case. We weren't in a hurry, so it wasn't an issue. The dinner menu was somewhat more limited than I would've expected, and I was very surprised to see my first choice (Bison Bolognese) run out at a rather early in the evening (6:30), leaving me with rather humdrum choices to pick from. WHY ONLY THREE STARS? After our first visit in 2023, I would've given The Masthead a solid 5-star review. Unfortunately the chef they had at the time has moved on, and the current chef, while competent, doesn't have the came creative flair in entree design and execution that their predecessor did. My steak was just fine, but the presentation was rather uninspired, and my wife's chicken was a bit 'over'. THE VERDICT: Considered on its own merits, The Masthead is an OK fine dining restaurant, but it suffers in comparison to how it was two years ago with a different chef. That said, The Masthead has been around a long time, and restaurants like this do have their ups and downs. Perhaps they'll be different in a couple more years?

We only had to wait a few minutes - 5 minutes maybe - before they called us in to be seated. Once seated we were served water and then they began taking drink orders. Since we were there for Sunday Brunch we waited a bit for the stragglers to arrive before ordering our meals. Service in general was excellent. Very timely without hovering. I ordered their Double Bloody Mary, a drink they are well known for around these parts. It's a drink and a meal all in one! The Bloody Mary was decent. Not the best I've ever had, but still tasty. Included, on skewers were two small biscuit sliders with egg, ham and cheese, three sausage meatballs, two large bacon wrapped potato chunks, a couple of pickled peppers, a chunk of apple, two blue cheese stuffed olives, a chunk of cheese, ham and salami. It also contained a big celery and carrot stick. It was supposed to have a dill pickle spear but I guess they forgot that or ran out. With it you get your choice of vodkas. I chose Tito's. This was all served in a quart size Mason Jar! Everyone else ordered other items and they all seemed to enjoy not only their drinks but their food as well. Salmon Scramble was really enjoyed by the son in law and stuffed French toast was great according to my wife. Several ordered the Breakfast Burrito in a Bowl and enjoyed it. They have an extensive breakfast menu available for brunch so a second visit will be in order. All in all it was a nice way to celebrate a birthday and eat brunch. Well worth a visit.

THIS IS THE MOST REAL REVIEW YOU WILL SEE ABOUT THIS RESTAURANT. every yelp review about this place…read moreis so fake. After a long day of hiking and driving from Port Angeles to Forks, we did the Hoh trails and were extremely hungry after. We looked on Yelp and this was one of the highest rated places, so we thought it would be good. I genuinely do not understand the ratings. The food was terrible. The nachos were basically just a bag of stale chips served on a plate. There was maybe sour cream on ONE chip. The cheese was literally cold and frozen onto the chips. I'm not even exaggerating. The sandwiches were also extremely bland and nothing about the food matched what the reviews made this place seem like. Even looking through the reviews beforehand, so many of the Elite reviews read like the same forced AI review saying how amazing everything is. After actually eating here, I seriously question how this place has such a high rating. Easily one of the worst meals we had on the entire trip. I don't even wanna put a pic of the nachos that's how bad it was. the sandwiches were actually pretty decent that's about it.

Haven't ordered more than one at a restaurant before but had to try two here! We thoroughly enjoyed our final selections of Ginny from the Block, Garden era, strawberry bourbon smash and Blackberry goose beer! For our mains we got the alaskan cod and chips and Blackened cod tacos and loved it all. They really know how to prepare tasty cod! The Alaskan cod and chips had the perfect crispy texture and my blackened cod tacos had all the flavor profiles you need. A hint of heat in the Thai chili slaw with a creamy avocado, Crema and the brightness of mango salsa and of course a touch of sour with the HOUSE made pickled red onions. Even better they let me substitute corn tortillas in for the flour. But you can't mix and match your proteins. I didn't need to because I loved both of my blackened cod tacos. The atmosphere is in the name: cozy Gastropub. They have a plethora of beers on tap, but parking is solely on the street so a little bit more challenging than picking your beer but I don't think it would be too challenging if you're up for a small walk. We were able to walk from our Airbnb, so didn't have to figure that part out. Pretty sure it was farther than any walk you might have to do for parking!

We came in a little before 7pm on Tuesday night and there was a line to get on the waitlist for a very packed restaurant. We walked around for a bit, came back, and were able to snag a spot at the bar, so definitely recommend if you can swing it. I was hungry after a day of hiking and also a little cold so I grabbed a cup of their chowder and a salad. My partner also wanted to split an order of the mac & cheese, which is listed on the apps but is a VERY large portion. I almost wish I had forgone my chowder so that I could have eaten more of the mac & cheese. All of the food was very good. It took a little bit to come out, and the bartenders weren't too concerned with us, so you may have to get their attention if you need more water, another drink, etc. Like I said, the food here is very good. Definitely a great spot for lunch or dinner if you're in Port Angeles.

I wanted a salad but they were all $19+ and had meat on them and I asked if I could sub avocado instead of meat and the waitress said they would have to upcharge me? Sorry, what? You have to upcharge me on a TWENTY DOLLAR SYSCO SALAD?! I grew up on the island, so I am not some tourist who doesn't understand the prices here. I took my kids to eat here on a Sunday evening after a long day thinking it would be cheap quick diner food. It was over a hundred dollars for one adult and two kids to eat a basic diner meal- we had butter noodles, a grilled cheese, fries, and a 3pc fish and chips with 3 fountain sodas. NEARLY A HUNDRED DOLLARS BEFORE TIP. And their tip system had the nerve to ask me to add 20/25/30% on top of the outrageous prices?! It was insulting. I am not someone to complain about prices generally, but I had dinner for two adults at a fancy south end restaurant a few nights ago and we each had wine and it was about the same price. I was sincerely shocked by the prices for incredibly mediocre food. It almost felt like they were trying to prank us, honestly. Definitely do not recommend. The island has a lot of excellent restaurants that charge fair prices. This is not one of them.
