Farina is phenomenal, truly one of the best restaurants in all of Kansas City…read more The staff is always overly-accommodating, we were immediately welcomed and seated within minutes. Wine selection is vast... there is something for every one. Although, we didn't indulge in cocktails the ones at neighboring tables certainly looked delicious! We splurged on steak-skewers and a lasagna appetizer. Out-of-this world amazing. I almost regret not ordering a second round of appetizers and calling it my entire entree. Fortunately, we moved to the next course and were even more impressed. The magic touch to the chef's Tagliatelle Bolognese is total witchcraft. As one who appreciates a good pasta dish, this is now officially my second favorite pasta dish ever. We finished with beautiful entrees including the Michael Smith's Pork Roast, Smoked Mozzarella Stuffed Veal Chop, and the Wood Grilled KC Strip Steak. The Pork Roast was served beautifully. The spicy tomato sauce with the Veal Chop was absolutely delightful. The Strip Steak was tender and cooked to a perfect medium-rare. We could not have enjoyed our meal more if we tried. Ambiance is intimate yet energetic. Staff is professional, friendly, and extremely attentive. There wasn't a bite that was anything less than perfect. Having moved away from Kansas City, we do still miss having Farina to frequent. What an absolute gem of a restaurant. You absolutely cannot go wrong with anything on their menu or recommended by their staff. If it's your first time, absolutley step out of your comfort zone and order off the current specials menu. It's always proven to be delightful for us, every time! Thanks again to Ms. Nancy for being so helpful and getting us the reservation we were hoping for! We shall return when we visit KC next!

I'm updating my review to take away a star. When we first started going the gluten-free bun (that I…read morehave to get because I have celiac), was always good and the hamburgers were excellent. We raved about the restaurant to my parents, my mother has celiac as well. We brought them in last month and the gluten-free bun seemed stale on both of our hamburgers and just overly thick and just not good. I thought it was just a one time thing and my husband and I went tonight and it was the same problem. So I don't know if they got new gluten-free buns but for the amount they're charging for these hamburgers they need to go back to the one they had, or do whatever they were doing with them before. Maybe in the past they had buttered and toasted them on the grill?? That will make gluten-free taste better because the bun tonight was absolutely horrible and it ruined the experience and the hamburger was rather dry as well. The service was fine and the ambiance is casual. But the fries or sides are not included with the meal. My husband and I both had a hamburger and an order of fries and water and with a tip it was $59.

With a nice outdoor patio right off a streetcar stop and a fun and fancy indoor, I always have so much fun here for dinner and drinks. I have been here for casual dinners, dates, anniversaries, and everything in between and have loved it every time! Everyone is always so kind and helpful, recommending their favorite plates and how much food should be enough for your party. They rotate out some of their plates periodically, keeping the menu fresh and new, while also keeping the classics that I love. My absolute favorite dish that I get every time is the grilled ricotta and bread as an appetizer. The ricotta is perfectly light and the bread is charred to perfection, I highly recommend it. Some other dishes we love (some not pictured): the cucumber salad, raw oysters, sautéed mushrooms. You really cannot go wrong I dream of going back to KC to order Extra Virgin again.

Got it -- here's the revised version with that correction integrated cleanly:…read more We stopped in for a quick snack before waiting for the streetcar during the World Cup. We didn't have reservations and were dressed casually. The hostess was friendly and welcoming, and we were seated in what was referred to as the "other dining room," down a dark hallway into a musty, warm, and humid space. Service was prompt and courteous, but the food was very disappointing. We were served a cucumber salad that oddly tasted like peanuts, followed by six completely flavorless meatballs--no seasoning at all, not even salt. The prices might be reasonable if the quality matched expectations, but it didn't. The contrast between the main dining room and the "other room" also felt stark and uncomfortable, as if it were a second-tier seating area. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant based on this experience.

Our waiter instantly greeted us to fill our waters gave us some time to decide on our cocktails. We enjoyed some starters and shared the duck empanadas and the fries. Both were so delicious but the empanadas were SO good!! There were a handful of starters that looked so good but we were happy with the ones we chose. For dinner I ordered the short rib and my fiancé ordered the saffron risotto. My short rib was so tender and fell apart the way short rib should. The saffron risotto was really flavorful. We both really enjoyed our dishes and had clean plates afterwards! For dessert with we ordered the lemon cake which isn't normally something I would get but it was really good! It was light but still full of flavor. The cake and the ice cream together were super good. Overall, we had a nice meal here! It is definitely on the pricer side so I recommend saving special occasions to go here. We were really pleased with everything we ordered and our night as a whole.

Went here with my boyfriend for a pre-Christmas date and had a very tasty meal. I had made…read morereservations for 7 and we were seated immediately. We were pretty close to the door, which wasn't ideal with how cold it was. They have a sort of vestibule outside but it's not fully enclosed so it does almost nothing to improve the blast of cold air when the door opens. I should preface this review with I liked the food but the service was a bit slow, however, I know fine dining service is a bit more leisurely, so I may be overly harsh on that front. Anyway, once we were seated, water came out right away. We then waited a while for the waiter to get our drink orders so I ordered the empanadas with our drinks (we were hungry). Empanadas came out quickly and were very tasty. Drinks were not quite as quick but were also very tasty. Then we waited a while for the waiter to come back to order our entrees. And at that point, I asked if we could have some bread. I saw a bunch of tables with bread but I think our waiter maybe forgot because most folks in his section didn't seem to have it. When that came out, I wanted to laugh. 2 small pieces of focaccia and a small piece of the other kind. 3 pieces of bread does not a bread basket make. He did offer to bring more but my boyfriend declined (What?!, but I didn't contradict him) so I can't fully complain about that. Once our mains came out, my complaints about the slower service and small bread portion were erased because good heavens the short rib was INCREDIBLE. So melt in your mouth and flavorful. Definitely some of the best short ribs I've had in my life. My boyfriend had some kind of dish with a butternut squash puree, mushrooms and cauliflower. His was very good too but perhaps a bit gravy with the salt. We did get our order for dessert in pretty quick and that was a great end to the meal. The passionfruit puree made it really bright tasting. TL;DR: really delicious food (4.5-4.75) but service pacing, and the blasts of cold air made it a 4. We would go back but I had a gift card, and I'm not sure I would have been as happy with the meal if we'd paid full price, if that makes sense.
