The food was good and the service was, too! I always find that Denny's is middle of the road as far as their menu is concerned. It is neither bad, nor is it gourmet. There is never anything outstanding about the restaurant building. They are all pretty much cookie cutter design. I dined with friends and family late last year (31DEC). We were headed back to our vacation residence after a day of touring NAS Jacksonville and the city of St. Augustine. We realized that during the holidays all of the choice restaurants would be booked, with waiting lines to get in. And while the temptation to eat at somewhere memorable was present, the basic idea of having supper was the main theme. As we drove along, there was the sign - Denny's! It welcomed us like an old friend. We were seated at a booth. We soon found out the table was wobbly. Not just a little wobble, but one where I had to pick up my cup to keep from spilling every time someone got up to wash their hands or whatever. The menu was colourful, had good descriptions, with calories listed for each item. Those calories always come in handy for someone like me who works so hard at maintaining a beach-worthy figure. Everything we ordered was delicious. Personally, I ordered a country fried steak, with mashed potatoes. It hit the spot!! I finished it off with volcano cake, topped with vanilla ice cream. Actually a really good sandwich, and the wife enjoyed her food also, the server was very nice, they only had 1 cook, it was bike week, and the manager was not in the building for the first 10-15 we were there, so we were patient. Denny's likes to refer to itself America's diner, but anyone who grew up with a quality diner can arguably dispute the fact. Still, they are a national chain that offers a consistent, even if nothing spectacular menu. The only thing that I can remember ordering at Denny's as of late is their breakfast offerings. I know that in the past I ordered a hamburger and I was rather disappointed with the blandness I never ordered anything other than their breakfast again. Of course, this was years, if not a decade or more ago. So, how are their breakfast offerings? Again, they are nothing special, but they do the job. This particular location is conveniently not far off of Interstate 95 oh, so if you are a traveler, this might be an option you want to explore. All in all, I will give it three stars. read more

Most of our orders was wrong! They was randomly substituting food with other things such as, my mother ordered toast with her food and they randomly just gave her pancakes and didn't even try to fix it. Our servers changed out of nowhere and we waited 20 minutes for a new one! We also got side salads to eat before our food and they didn't bring us them till all of our food was ready. Out of all Denny's this has had to be the best. I mean, people from this area come here to hangout and spend a Saturday night. YEAH Ripley's, Believe it! My purpose eating here was a road trip stop. I'm not a huge Denny's fan, but this is the best one the fact that the food me and my bro got were EXACTLY like the picture in the menu. I mean, you couldn't tell the difference. The other night my general manager, assistant manager and myself decided to get some food after work and went to Denny's considering it's one of the only places to get food in New Smyrna at 3am. We ordered food and then our server came back and informed us that she didn't know how long it was gonna take because the cook decided he didn't want to cook our food and had left the building. Mind you we go there a lot after work on the weekends, sometimes I'm alone, sometimes it's 6 of us, sometimes it's 12. The second time our server Dominique came back she was in tears and was apologizing saying how she had to leave and couldn't work with this individual anymore. I've had Dom as my server many times after work since she's the closer and she's always been amazing, truly a great server and a great employee. I just think it's a very sad (for Dom's sake) and very unprofessional that they would continue to let this cook work here. This time I'm talking about was just the other night and was the worst of the situations I've seen, but he have in fact been in there late at night and have waited 30 minutes to an hour for our food because the cook refuses to... cook? The managers at the establishment really need to address this situation because I know I'll never step back into that building again, not after seeing how the cook acted and how management seems to not care since they decided to keep a problematic cook over an honest work working employee. Stopped at this Denny's on trip from Miami to Saint Augustine for work. The food was good and our waitress nice. Me and my husband just had dinner at Denny's on St Rd. 44 in New Smyrna. It was the worst dinner we ever had. The Country fried steak was cooked way too long. The waitress Valerie spilt sweet tea all over the floor it got on my husbands feet and down his pant leg. Mash potatoes were cold and not real potatoes. Couldn't use the salt shakers cause of being cloged on every table. The waitress brought us salt in a bowl. Bread sticks were terrible. Truth be told I have somewhat of a history with Denny's, although it's been a number of years since I've walked through the door of any of this brand's establishments and today's visit was actually the first at this particular location even though I've lived in the area for a number of years. It seems this brand has always been associated with late night preventive measures to combat the hangover when there's been a little over indulgence, so it can often be a place that is loud sometime obnoxious or odious and filled with annoying characters displaying objectionable behavior. So visiting here late night this was a consideration or at least a concern, but I was surprised to find quite the opposite. The restaurant was filled with mostly families and a few friends having a late night meal or just a cup of coffee but there are somethings that seem to never change in fact I felt as if I had never taken a break from frequently visiting Denny's, the service was painful slow, our server although apologetic forgot a few things and needed a reminder and of course there was no one insight when I wanted my check. Denny's New SMYRNA Beach. Long time customer, there was a change over last year, not as good as previous manager. However today's visit was up to par. Menus is consistently changing. Not a bad thing, had a spicy skillet chicken in a cast iron server (second time) delicious. Hard to believe it's healthy, around 800 calories. Service, again quite good. Wife's food was warm, not hot. It eats, eggs n English muffin hash browns. Menus has a lot of variety, it's not Fancy hi end ( expensive ) good value for the dollar, waitresses pitched in when something was getting low, coffee.
