This place is so racist! I came in to enjoy breakfast with my family and immediately were sat down where all the black patrons were. It's just so happened that they were all segregated to one side of the eatery, stuffed in the corner. Next time the server should evaluate the scene and determine that all black people don't want to sit together all because we share the same skin tone. It's funny because I wanted to make sure I wasn't paranoid about it, until a few white couples came in and they were seated away from us. Or were given the option to sit wherever they like. On top of that this is a high tourist area and all type of races probably come here to eat breakfast. This is the last time I'll be going to this Denny's. Dude. Best manager ever at this place. We came over from a festival at the fairgrounds near midnight. The line was out the door- once you get through the chaos of people up front and get your name on the list the service was prompt and super friendly. Ordered eggs over easy, and got scrambled. Didn't send it back because I was starving.

This place is overall disgusting. The bathrooms are gross and looked like they have not been cleaned in months. I was able to look in the kitchen when the waitress opened the door and it looked super dirty as well. I should have walked out, but we were really hungry and my order was placed. This place is a joke first I call in my order they say it will be 10 minutes then I arrive tell them I called in an order proceed to wait another 10 minutes then am told they do not have my order. Next I physically give them my order then 5 minutes later I'm told they can not make my food without beans on it which makes no sense so they get a manager who can't even speak to me in English which is the same person who took my order in the first place. So I decided to walk out a d not order because horrible service I do not know the lady's name but she works nights behind the desk is very rude. My friend and I went to have a meal and we were sat in a booth where we could see the kitchen workers work. We could also hear what they were saying, they only spoke Spanish so I could understand what they were saying and it was language that was very offensive and disgusting. When I asked for the manager there was none and so I proceeded to tell the server. When I explained to her what I heard she just rolled her eyes at me and didn't think it was a big deal. I believe if you are white you get bad service because all the Latinos were getting great service so I will not be returning to this location again. read more

If you're drunk and disorderly, what better way to spend the evening with your tired and crying children?! The server hates you, and everyone seems uncomfortable now. Expected so much more from a place that offers a four dollar menu, and I will take my my four dollars somewhere else. The difference between this Denny's and the one down the street is day & night. Go to this one at 2137 Fremont not the one at 398 Fremont. We had a great waitress at this location, Patricia. Amazingly enough, she actually had a SMILE! I was beginning to think there was a new law against waitresses at Denny's smiling, thank goodness for Patricia! She was friendly, brought refills, & even asked us how our meal was about midway through us eating, INCREDIBLE! Didn't know this kind of service still existed at Denny's. If only all Denny's could hire people like her. Additionally, we told her our horrible experience at the other location & she did something they NEVER did, she APOLOGIZED-----FOR THEM! On our way out, another waitress at this location also apologized for the horrible service we had yesterday at the other location. Pretty sad that both of these people can apologize for another restaurant's horrific service, but ED couldn't for the life of him when it was HIS restaurant's failure. The entire restaurant was dirty and not well maintained. After reading the sticky menus I went to their restrooms to wash my hands. The restrooms were outdated and filthy to the point I had to use the paper towel to turn off the faucet and open the door. During my stay I watched as the busboy half assed he entire job cleaning tables and I wondered if the entire process of everything I saw and experienced continued into the kitchen. read more

Ha! I now know why this Denny's was given 2 stars. There was a very long wait, the front host didn't have it together and was scratching names off his list that HE or ANYONE else didn't call on for seating. Happened to 3 families ahead of me, the manager was present the WHOLE time and never once tried to assist his employees or take control of the situation. The food was decent but by the time we got to eat (another long wait) the bad experience and service of the host and waiter trumped the idea of our meal. Denny's is a place you go because it's supposed to be quick and simple. This location is simple but definitely not quick. I've come here twice now because I would rather eat here than have the free breakfast at my hotel and both days have been extremely slow service! We get seated quickly but the waitress takes forever to come bring us drinks then takes forever to come back and take orders, then the food takes forever to come out to the table, then the waitress takes forever to bring us the check ....I'm sure your noticing a theme here. It's not about the number of people at the table because the first time I came, we were a group of 3 and the second time I came, I was by myself. They just need to hire more people. read more

Friendly staff and great service...yeah I know...this is dennys...but one of the best we have been to.

Tried this place for breakfast because it was close to my hotel. Very disappointed to say the least. I ordered a bowl of soup to go with the rest of my meal and I was told it would be about fifteen minutes for the soup which I was fine with. The problem is I was there for a good thirty minutes and the soup came at the very end of my meal. I asked if I could take the soup to go and the server which I assume was the manager because she was wearing a distinguishing top glared at me and hesitantly agreed to make it to go. She then brought me a cup and was even more upset after I asked if someone could pour the hot soup in the cup for me, she proceeded to dump the bowl of soup in the cup spilling it all over the floor and our feet. She said this is the only way we can do it. Ridiculous! read more

I asked for the free breakfast for birthdays which was the grand slam and it was awful. I asked for a decaf coffee and it never give to me. The customer near me was given her coffee, but not me. On a weekday evening the place was basically empty with only three other tables seated. Our service was extremely slow, over 13 min to get drinks to the table and about 35 min from sitting down to getting our food. The food was room temperature warm and we normally would have sent it back, but given the speed of service we just ate it. As someone that goes to Denny's, IHOP, etc. fairly regularly, I can say that the quantity of food was smaller than usual and also had none of the normal presentation. The price was also a few dollars more than what I'm used to as well as they didn't offer pancakes with meals that usually come with them. Only for an added cost. Abysmal service. Went for breakfast on Oct. 24, 2016. Ordered a belgian waffle. The waiter came back 10 min later and asked how I want my eggs. I told him that I didn't order eggs, I ordered a waffle. He said that I couldn't get a waffle unless I ordered a Waffle grand slam. I didn't want eggs or bacon and just wanted the waffle but he said that he couldn't give me a waffle without charging me for an entire Grand Slam. I told him to forget it. Really Denny's? This has been the worst service my family and I have had. My husband and I counted 6 waitress behind the counter not doing anything and still no one came to help us. It took 10 minutes for the so called "manager" to come to us and inform us that our waitress will be right with us. Then when requesting extra meat on the pot roast they wanted to charge us for an extra plate of pot roast instead of just charging us for and extra spoonful of something. My husband had to tell the manager to just charge for a sausage patty or something. We live in San Jose, CA and when decide to come back to Monterey we will for sure not be coming back to this place. read more

Hadn't been to Dennys in awhile but today we decided to go. It was nice. Not full, as a matter of fact it was somewhat empty. It started well until it took a while to get our coffee and when we did our waiter Juan spilled my coffee on the menu and on the table not to much but it enough where it required to be wiped, which he didn't do or even offer an apology for the mess he made. Our food came, was served by the food runner. At this point our cups were empty. So when I asked to have more coffee she responds with a sure, then Juan appears to serve coffee. The whole time we were there NOT ONCE did Juan or anyone check to see if anything was needed or just provide customer service and see if everything was okay. Before we placed our order we were having a conversation with our friend and she was telling us how she walked out because of the lack of customer service and I can see why. Will we return? Most definitely not! When someone lacks customer service they should be kept in the back of the house. With ALL your tourists coming in you'd expect better. read more

Despite being a packed Denny's after 2am, the food came out super fast and was pretty tasty. I order the clean stuff here egg whites turkey bacon ham and chicken sausage. All were hot and heavy I left full and you Denny's isn't too bad on the pocket either. read more
