We ordered one of the specials of the day, soon after receiving our plates my wife was about to pour syrup on her pancakes and I had to stop her from doing that. She asked me why, I told her that there was a fly inside the syrup container. "Four stars?!?", you ask? First off, I reckon that I have to qualify that. I'm rating from the perspective of what this place is and its nearby competition. This is a Denny's, after all, and anyone reading a Yelp review about a Denny's is more likely to be sitting in a booth here looking for an entertaining way to pass time as they await their food than they are to be someone just perusing breakfast options in this particular area before deciding where to go. Either way, Yelpers should inherently know and understand that four stars here versus four stars at a steakhouse, for example, are not nearly the same league or, to channel, Quentin Tarantino, "it ain't even the same friggin sport." So, no taking me to task for putting a Denny's into the same rarified 4-star air as an impeccably-maintained sushi destination. Apples and oranges, or should I say edamame and bacon? Now that that's out of the way... This location was surprisingly good for what it is and what it strives to be: a relatively quick and casual value breakfast joint. I came ~9am on a Wednesday and it was fairly busy. Seated in a booth off to the back, I figured that I might be easily forgotten about by the waitstaff. However, the manager who sat me brought my drink out and came back again a few minutes later to take my food order. He didn't write it down (build your own slam of two eggs over easy, pancakes, hash browns, and English muffins) so that made me a bit nervous that I might be receiving some sort of mystery breakfast that only had a passing resemblance to what I had ordered. When the server arrived with my food, she confidently asked whether it was looking right and, to my liking, it was. Everything delivered together and prepped correctly. Only after she left the table did I notice that I had no silverware. No worries, though, as the manager came by to check on me right after the plates were served and I asked for cutlery, which he promptly provided along with a cordial apology that it had not been placed there already. The waitress checked on me at least twice during the meal and offered to and did refill my drink when it was a bit more than 1/3 full (perfect timing). All of the food was fine - not winning any culinary hardware here but it was plenty good enough to satisfy the pancake craving with which I awoke this morning. Service was very attentive despite a pretty busy floor (all tables in front were full and they opened up the back room about halfway through my visit). All of the staff I encountered were courteous and proactive. Hey, Denny's may not motivate you to go out of the way (especially during daylight hours), but I think that this is the best spot within a 3-4 mile radius that is open for regular weekday breakfast. read more

As we're about to leave, the waitress comes out saying she gave us the wrong receipt and we owed her 23 something more from what we originally paid. You're here making us look like we dined and ditched. It's hard to admit that I'm a big fan of Denny's. Being a foodie and all, when I end up at Denny's comma I feel like I didn't try very hard. I could have done better. Denny's is somehow a fall back. Literally none of that is true. Belize is a great American restaurant and has always been consistent Kama always open comma and about every major city a small town you can ever visit. Might go to menu item is the original Grand Slam. I get up with two pancakes, two scrambled eggs soft, and all crispy bacon. I've been ordering that at Denny's Across America for 20 years and it has always tasted exactly the same. Sure, they upgraded the pancakes to a more fluffy style or something. I'm rating this as a Denny's and not comparing it to other restaurants. As far as Denny's go, what makes this a four-star is the manager and the staff. We have always had good service, good food, and no problems with our orders. They are kid friendly, even if some of the patrons aren't. If you like Denny's and you aren't a big whiner or a pain in the butt then this is plenty good enough. If you don't like Denny's then you probably shouldn't eat at one, even this one. read more

We always get seated near the emergency exit facing Mission Ave. The seats were dirty with crumbs and sticky stuff and the waiter saw me cleaning it and just stood there , didn't offer to help or take care of it. Last week while visiting the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido I stayed at one of the local hotels and had breakfast here for three consecutive mornings. The meals were all outstanding, the service was good and of course the prices were very reasonable. There is plenty of parking available. read more
