Still a solid happy hour M-F until 7. Can be crowded, so a large group may not be a great idea. Queso dip is no longer a $4 chip-dip option, but the guacamole is really good and a good portion. Went on a Tuesday night with 4 people. They told us it would be 40 minutes. Checked in after 45 minutes and they said another 10, ok. Check in again and they then said it would be another hour!?! No apologies, no reason. Absolutely ridiculous. We saw plenty of people come and go after us. We also had another group of friends who we saw with no issues. Still have no idea what happened or if they were discriminating in some way or just forgot or missed us but absolutely unacceptable. If we had known the timing we could have ordered to go or left. Or if they had any reason or modicum of understanding what they had done that would have been one thing. But we go semi often and wont be back unless they make changes to personnel. read more

I have been going to BJs for over a decade mainly the La Mesa location and have always had great service and food there as well as a a few other locations. But this location has 100% failed in every way each of the chances we have given it, and that is sad since this is now our local BJs. First trip we had a party of 4 people and it was not that busy. They had a special on the burgers and we have always loved the tasty juicy burgers in the past. Well all of these 4 burgers were extremely overcooked, like there was no way the cook could not tell these things were basically hockey pucks but they still served them to us. Our waitress did not come to check in us at ALL during our meal. No check in, no refills nothing. By the time she came back we should have been done with our food but the hockey pucks remained uneaten. The waitress did not seem too concerned so we left and I just followed up with BJ guest service - and to their credit they did give me a gift card to (not fully) make up for the meal. After some time I decided to give them another shot. I had noticed the pizza was in special on Mondays and we have always LOVED the pizza. The dough has always been light and fluffy, the topping were always tasty so this seemed like a slam dunk for them to make up for the previous visit. Circumstances were different this time and I ordered way ahead of time on the app and scheduled this pick up time later for that day. I got a text just prior to walking in saying the order was ready and I thought that was perfect timing. However the 2 pizzas I had ordered were just sitting out on the counter, not being kept warm and fresh, just hanging out on the counter for who knows how long. I SHOULD have checked the pizzas right there but I was in a hurry and did not, this was my mistake. When I got home not too long after the pizzas were as dry as they could be. First pizza was then the veggie pizza with the cupped pepperoni added. The pepperoni looked like it was not even cooked and just thrown on top of the pizza afterwards, none of it was cooked in and it was DRY. The second pizza was the BBQ chicken and it had an abundance of BBQ sauce on it that looked like it had dried up and the chicken always also DRY, even with the BBQ the pizza was still dry lol. And for both of them the light fluffy crust was NOT light or fluffy or moist.. it was also DRY and HARD. And to top it off the cook failed to cut the pizza correct. Somehow they cut the middle but stopped before they got to that dry crust, maybe they knew their cutter had no chance.in that crust. I am serious... 2 pizzas and not one fully cut slice and that's just amazing. I am officially done with this location and probably done with BJs in general. Prices have gone up and the food portions have shrunk and the quality has gone downhill. If you are still here reading this I hope I have given you enough time to figure out where you want.to go for your meal since going here would be a mistake. read more

Started using the points system since we are always here. We like the seasonal pizookies the butterfinger one is our favorite. The strawberry was okay. The Cookie Monster was sad literally just dyed blue and overcooked but probably because we came on a Tuesday and it was packed but still they should have cooked it right. My fiancé, his friends, and I went to BJ's tonight to celebrate his birthday, and unfortunately it turned into a really disappointing experience. The customer service was just okay overall. Our server took a long time checking on us and also took forever to bring the check, even after we asked kindly. The biggest issue was the food. My fiancé ordered wings, and when he bit into one, it was pink and bloody inside. One of his friends ordered a chicken pasta and found a piece of paper in his food. At that point, it completely ruined everyone's appetite. The server did apologize and even mentioned that other people had been complaining about raw chicken recently, which honestly was really concerning to hear. Since it was my fiancé's birthday, the server offered him a free pizookie, which we appreciated, but when the check finally came, we were still charged for it. We even had to ask another waiter for help because our server never came back. We understand the restaurant was busy, but overall the experience was upsetting and disappointing, especially for a birthday celebration. read more

Tuesday was $5 cookie and ice cream night so that was fun to get your own dessert! Cookie was a little overcooked but still edible. Maybe a couple of minutes less in the oven would be perfect. The lettuce for the salad was a little old not crisp and tasty. Seems it was left out at room temperature so it was not good anymore. Second salad here that was bad. read more

Their beer selection is not keeping up with San Diego brewing standards (especially their bitter hazy.) The burgers and the sliders were unimpressive. I ordered a sandwich that was cooked on the griddle but when i received the sandwich it was like the bread was melted away and i was holding chicken with crust around it. Our server was really nice. She brought an extra water glass, but neither of them have been refilled going on 40 min and the pizookie was evil... no it was devilishly good... We were excited to try the new snickers pizookie. That's where it ends. I got a wedge that was yellow and bitter. My wife's steak was dry and chewy. She called it jerky. Seriously, that was a compliment. My ribs were dry and tasted reheated a couple of times over. My asparagus were super stringy. Her potatoes were super dry. Don't get the Thursday special... apparently. They must make them early in the day and then heat them up as time goes on. It was a busy night. Lots of graduates and we had a 20 min wait at 7:11... seated at 7:40... kitchen was slow... still waiting for our pizookies at 8:50. Maybe should have put that order in sooner... hmmm. BJ's Escondido has been one of our favorite places to go on our rotation for years. We usually sit in the bar area. Great lively and friendly atmosphere. They have excellent waiters and waitresses who are friendly and attentive, and remember our drinks! To be honest, they make this place great! They make us feel welcomed and want to come back again. The food has a good variety, something for everyone. They are really trying to not raise the price. Everything is decently tasty, especially for the reasonable price. $13 meals that come with a small pizookie are great deals and have some healthy options as well. Their app has a point system for discounts, and there are some perks if you join their beer club. We ordered a BJ's Favorite pizza at our last visit, and we noticed that they had changed toppings. A lot less toppings. A lot less sauce and cheese. We did not like the change. Sometimes, if they cannot keep up the same quality, they need to raise the price. The food at BJ's is decent but not amazing. I'm sick of this trend where the kids menu Mac and cheese is box Mac and cheese so this is a 1/2 star reduction. Additionally only having Heineken zero as the NA beer option in 2025 is really depressing. Short wait time to be seated but we waited over 20 mins for the appetizer and over 40 mins for the rest of the food. Could not find our server so we had to flag down the hostess to check our order. The tri tip I ordered came out cold. They did offer to remake it but I didn't want to risk another 40 min wait with a toddler. They did take it off the check. I can understand if it was a super busy Friday/Saturday night but it was a Wednesday around 6pm when we sat down. It was not crowded and it looked like they had plenty of servers working. Normally we love BJs and order takeout from them a few times a month. We've been disappointed occasionally, but this is a first. After getting our order home we found that the House Salad contained a 3.5" piece of broken plastic! It looks like it broke off of some container latch. This is really dangerous. I hope the restaurant can identify it and where came from so nothing like this happens again. We came in during prime time on Saturday without a reservation, so we had to a wait for a bit (understandably), however as soon as we were seated Amber promptly made sure we got everything we needed. She was able to answer all of our questions about the menu, make helpful suggestions, and was swift to make sure our checks were separated accurately.
