The wine was fabulous too - we ordered the chilled Rhône (which I will be purchasing for my home right after this). Do not skip the Arroz la Plancha - omg. I don't like mushrooms usually, but I was with some friends and I was open to ordering it this time and I am so happy we did!!!! I really want to gatekeep this place but I'm not going to because everyone deserves a fantastic, delicious meal here at Demo. Started off with the scallop crudo with super fresh and tender scallop pieces with a good ratio of citrus notes and salt. The lengua tonnata exceeded my expectations!! Not only were the lengua pieces super tender and well seasoned, the tonnata sauce which was blended with tuna and anchovies was very creamy, smooth, and addicting without being overly rich. Paired with the caper berries, it was like umami heaven!! I don't usually rave about salads but their radicchio salad is something that I would order every time! If you like a creamy salad with textural complexity, this is it!! Drenched in their tahini sauce, the veggies itself were fresh, crunchy, and well-seasoned. The addition of the crispy crumble pieces, herbs, and pickled fennel added lots of contrasts. The crab casino was good too, but I felt like the guanciale stole the spotlight away from the crab. The arroz la plancha was another highlight of the night! The mushroom aroma greets you immediately and the cheese crusts were consistently crispy. I loved how it was super cheesy without being too moist or sauce-y. Lastly, the fluke was cooked nicely with a savory brown butter sauce that was complemented by the sweet onion flavor profile. They are also a wine bar with a great selection of options. I got myself a grenache rose that was delicious and paired well with the later dishes. My partner's selection of two white wines were also very crisp. For two people, they typically recommend 2 apps, 2 medium plates, and 1 entry to share. Next time I definitely wanted to try the cabbage and the lobster au poivre! Staff were friendly and food came quickly with appropriate timing between dishes. Came here to celebrate hubby and friend's twin birthday. Did not realize it was a wine bar with various small plates meant to share. Luckily these are friends with whom we have enjoyed many meals and we had similar palates. Waiter was friendly and helpful when we had questions deciding how many plates we should order. We ended up with the perfect amount. Only criticism may be if you recommend people share the small plates, the dishes should be presented appropriately. Some of them were awkward to share 4 ways. We ordered a bottle of Riesling which paired really well with the first few dishes. We then each ordered a red wine, mine was more full bodied, 2 others got the fruitier lighter wine. I enjoyed the wine and food combinations. I have been noticing a lot of noise issues in the newer trendier restaurants. Patrons seem to want to speak over each other and the high ceilings usually ensure the acoustics are horrible. The restaurant was loud and vibrant but somehow it seemed more of a dull buzz than shouting and screaming. I wonder if they had some kind of noise dampener?? I don't usually like chicken but my favorite dishes were the chicken and the scallop crudo. One last thing, we chose to forgo dessert because the only 2 options were a banana pudding and a strawberry tart (I'm allergic). A chocolate something or other would have appeased the other couple. Very small store front but the restaurant is deeper than it appears. Lighting is for date night or more intimate setting. Now the food. It wasnt bad but it didn't blow me away either. It was just mid, like you eat it and you go okay next instead of wondering what ingredients they used or how they did it. The only two dishes that really blew us away and was like okay I can understand was the green asparagus and the arrow dish with mushroom- this reminded me of risotto with a crispy cheese wrap if that makes any sense. Lengua: Extremely tender slices of beef tongue with a nice mayo sauce that paired nicely together. Arroz à la plancha: I really enjoyed this dish! Flavorful and creamy rice wrapped in a cheese crust with mushrooms on top. I actually liked the rice without the cheese crust more as the crust was a little salty. Steak: I didn't feel like the NY strip was worth $70. Probably my least favorite dish of the night. The sauce was a little too vinegary for me as well and I wish there was a bit more richness to the dish as the steak felt very mediocre. A close friend recommended Demo for a weekday dinner recently, and per usual, she made an excellent choice! Our table was available in time for our reservation, and I appreciated how attentive the server was as I waited for my friend to arrive. The menu offers a variety of dishes including sizable entrees and smaller plates that work well for sharing. We ordered the scallop crudo, cauliflower, fluke, crab casino, and arroz a la plancha. The scallop came with a refreshing citrus gremolata while the crab dish came with a savory and buttery crust that packed a whole lot of flavor when combined with the shellfish. While the fluke was good and the cauliflower was a great vegetable side, the standout dish of the night was the rice dish. The arroz was packed with umami flavor thanks to the mushroom and fontina, and the crispy texture combined with the cheesy flavor reminded me of Parmesan frico crisps. Though I enjoyed the food, my friend and I were eating in tight quarters. Getting to and from the table required some maneuvering with neighboring guests, and as the restaurant got busier during the evening it started feeling crowded. I had a late dinner at Demo last week after a play at Cherry Lane Theatre. It's a European wine bar - small plates and natural wines. It's small and romantic (dark and candlelit). I had a great glass of wine and two plates - one smaller and one bigger. I started with their Green asparagus, mozzarella, bottarga, and soft herbs, which was delicious - one of those dishes that proves simple done right can be exceptional. My second dish was their Arroz a la plancha, and it's a memorable plate of food! They cook risotto rice with mushroom stock. When it's cooked, they fold in mahón cheese and grill it until it's crispy. It becomes like a socarrat crepe that they roll and top with mushrooms. The service could have been a little more attentive, but they were busy even at 9-10pm on a Thursday night. All in all, I'd be happy to return. Their food and wine were exceptional. read more

Had a lovely date night at Demo recently! My husband and I had a seat at the counter, and it was a nice experience being able to watch the Chefs at work. We ordered a variety of bites and left pleasantly full. 1. Foccacia with cultured butter and anchovy. Foccacia was delicious as was their cultured butter. Anchovies were also good, but only came with 3 so we wished there was a bit more. 2. Lengua tonnata. Two different cuts of meat served with a generous serving of some type of aioli/hummus. We really enjoyed this dish! 3. Crab casino. Had solid amount of crab and was delightfully cheesy. Also enjoyed! 4. Lobster au poivre. While it was good, we didn't feel like it was worth the price tag. Would probably swap this with another dish next time we come! 5. Maple semifreddo. Very attentive. It was a Monday night, but pretty packed. Very cozy atmosphere. The focaccia was good, came with olive oil, but could have added butter for a cost. The gemelli was very good. I liked the crispy kale on top and was spicier than expected. The lobster was a small portion. It was very buttery and cooked well, but honestly, I think we liked the fries better. Really cozy and intimate spot. Staff were also attentive, gave us recommendations, and noticed one of the utensils were dirty before placing them down. The food was good, tho maybe the rice plancha and gemelli were a little salty for my taste. The standout was the mackerel, light but aromatic, and torched in front of us since we were sitting at the bar. Caraflax cabbage was also a standout with enough char to add on to the overall soda. The mushroom rice, again a little salty but big on mushroom flavor. Same with the gemelli, a little salty for my taste but lots of different textures from the crunch of the toppings and fried kale, and the spicy marinara sauce. That said, a bit pricey. $28 for mackerel, $21 for the cabbage, and $34 each for the rice and pasta. This place have very nice vibe and ambience. The workers are very friendly and helpful. We were seated at the back where the bar seating was and I was seated right in front of the chef prepping for the apps, so it's nice to see how clean everything was prepared. The menu is on the smaller side but that's a good thing in my book. The food was very yummy and flavorful ! Everything we got was delicious on its own way. They are not big dishes but nice sharing size for a party if 2. The only 2 things I am not in love with is that the place is pretty crowded, I have to squeeze by a few tables to get to the bathroom or to my seat. Even tho the dishes are yummy it is still on the pricier side, we ordered 4 dishes (no drinks or desserts) and after tips it's $150. They also told us they are fully booked so we had up to 1h and 45min for our meal. Demo is a cozy and classy spot. We made reservations at Demo due to them being a Chase Sapphire "Exclusive Table" - meaning, we could use our $150 Chase Sapphire Reserve credit here. We enjoyed the ambiance, location, and service. The food was delicious, but in our opinion, would not be worth the price without our Chase credit. But we're so glad we got to try it! Arroz a la plancha: this was our starting dish and it was the star of the show. Crispy rice and fried cheese is always an excellent choice. Gemelli: this pasta dish had great flavors, including a tiny bit of spice! It tastes like an Italian sausage pasta dish. Half chicken: the chicken was perfectly cooked, with great flavor throughout. I enjoyed this more than the gemelli, but I have also had very delicious chicken like this at a lower price point. Banana pudding: I'm usually a banana pudding purist, but I'll make an exception for Demo's. The crispness and sweetness of the bananas was incredible. There was also a nice saltiness throughout. Went to Demo earlier this week for my celebratory retirement dinner with two close friends. We were warmly greeted by Mia, who turned out to be our server as well. She hung our coats as we got settled in our banquette and we agreed on some bubbles to kick off the meal, along with an order of their delicious focaccia with olive oil and anchovies. We went for an array of appetizers including the lengua tonnata (tender and tasty), the Spanish mackerel with sauce gribiche, and the arroz a la plancha. All were impressive, but arroz a la plancha is to die for, with great texture and deep flavors or mushroom and crunchy rice. The butter bean soup was also a terrific choice. We then moved to the entrees and had a 20 oz. Boneless Ribeye, sliced and served with blistered red peppers. The lobster au poivre was another winner and the sauce paired well with the sliced ribeye. Win win! The banana pudding rounded out this feast. Mia was an excellent server, knowledgeable about the menu and wine list, super friendly and we shared some laughs during the meal, as well as enjoying her nodding confirmation when we selected the perfect pairing of vino with the entrees. A friend and I popped into Demo on a Saturday night for an earlier dinner. We had a 5:30p reservation and were seated right away in the back near the counter. As a wine bar, they had a nice selection of glasses and bottles of wine. I was in the mood for a white and had an excellent glass of Chardonnay. For food, we went with the Focaccia, Scallop Crudo, Crab Casino, Arroz, Lobster and Gemelli. We enjoyed all the dishes, but the Scallop Crudo, Crab and Arroz were highlights. I found the Gemelli a bit tough and the Lobster was a bit overpriced for what it was. Service was great. We had an awesome waitstaff who checked in on us and made sure we were enjoying. Food was paced well and though they have a 1.5 hour time frame, we never felt rushed. Ambiance is nice too. It's tiny, but it didn't feel cramped. I also loved the clean, modern feel to the space. Overall, Demo was a worth the experience. While it's a pricey endeavor, we enjoyed most of the items and the ambiance/service. read more

Reflecting on my experience at Demo, the things that stand out are it's a restaurant. A restaurant with food in it. It's also very small and tight, as many NYC restaurants in this area are. The service was nice. Food-wise, it was either good and memorable or not good. The lengua tonnata was super yummy, I only wish the lengua wasn't ice cold when it was served. Maybe cool would've been better but they take it out of the fridge, prep it right at the bar and serve it immediately. Same with the scallops. The chicken tasted like a Costco chicken with maple syrup. The pasta with kale was nice. I wouldn't go back but maybe it's worth trying for a date. read more

Stumbled upon this restaurant, and wow it was a great stumble. The staff and ambiance was welcoming and warm, we sat near the bar in the back and it was fun to watch all of the food get its final touches before being sent out to patrons. Our waiter was lovely, super kind and outgoing. The wine was delicious, we split a bottle. The food was also interesting and really yummy, we loved the mushroom rice dish, and the banana dessert was literally the cherry on top to a lovely evening. I actually think often about the banana pudding dessert haha. I am pretty picky about restaurants and ambiance, and this one was a pleasant surprise. We will absolutely be returning. Demo is a cute, bustling wine bar with delicious food, efficient service, and of course, fantastic wine. It may be on the newer side, but it's already operating like a well-oiled machine. The chefs at Demo met at the restaurant Wildair, which was one of the early "foodie"-type restaurants I went to when I was first getting into the NYC restaurant scene in 2015. At the time, I had said it was one of the best -- if not the best -- meals I'd ever had. I wouldn't say the food here bears a ton of similarity to the menu I had at Wildair back then, but the product is just as delicious, with the same subtle creativity and pitch perfect execution. We came here at 8:45 on a Saturday night. We were seated quickly and brought water immediately after. Always appreciate when a restaurant leaves a bottle of water at the table. Demo just has wine, so we tried a few different wines by the class to sample more of the menu. I first started with an orange wine which was absolutely delicious. On the lighter side, so a perfect one to start with. I hadn't heard of any of the wines on the menu despite being a natural wine lover, so I fully relied on our server to steer us in a good direction based on our preferences. My husband started with a sparkling wine that he also liked. We then each tried a different white wine and both were fantastic. The one I liked the most was an unfiltered chenin blanc. Food-wise, they recommend sharing a bunch of plates, which is my general approach anyway. The menu is divided into cold apps, hot apps, mains, and desserts. We ended up getting a nice mix of proteins and produce and we enjoyed every bite. Eats, below: Mackerel w/ gribiche, pickled shallots: A+ Our first dish out was excellent and unique. I've had many iterations of raw/cured seafood in my life, and I'm pretty sure I'd never seen it served with gribiche (a cold egg sauce, a little bit like egg salad). I was a little wary at first because in my mind these things don't intuitively go together, but the pairing was fantastic. It went well with the relatively thick slices of mackerel and the nice tang from the shallots. Marinated Squid w/ ajo blanco, market radish: A+ This is the one my husband was wary of because he was not convinced that cold, un-breaded squid would be good. I really wanted to try it and our server said it was one of their favorite things on the menu, so we went for it. My husband was pleasantly surprised that he loved this dish and he raved about it all night. It was fresh and bright with subtle and delicate flavors. Chopped Radicchio w/ tahini, citrus, za'atar crumble: A A wonderful winter salad with radicchio, some endive, a little fennel, lots of bitter greens that paired nicely with the nuttiness of the tahini and citrus notes of the dressing. Asparagus w/ romesco: A Probably the least exciting of the things we ordered but delicious all the same. In a gesture of excitement my husband accidentally flung an asparagus spear off the table and we had to sheepishly tell the server, but perhaps this is just a sign of how much we enjoyed our time here. Half Chicken w/ tokyo turnips, vin jaune: A+ A juicy and comforting roasted chicken served with a heavenly sauce. The turnips were also taking a nice bath in the sauce. We couldn't quite finish it because we were pretty full at the end but we did our best to conquer it because it was that good. read more

This was a special dinner with my brother, who knows the chef. Everything we had was special and delicious and the wine was lovely. The menu is changing all the time so every trip is something new. The focaccia bread was to die for and get all the extras, delicious. The format is small plates plus entrees. I liked Demo just fine. The food was good and the service was great. I just felt like the vibes were a little off. It's a tiny restaurant. The speakers have 80s and 90s jams going, but I feel like everyone working there was under 30 [LOL]. My server was amazing, she explained all about the various wines and how much food was enough for one person. I would definitely come back and give the restaurant another go, if not for having a chance at the tortilla and focaccia. The two dishes I was most impressed with were the arroz a la plancha [$31], which seems to be a fan favorite, and the banana pudding [$14] for dessert. The arroz is definitely large enough for two people to share or one person if you're very hungry. I loved the crispy crunchy outside and the soft inside of the rice and the cheese. It was perfectly cheesy. The banana pudding was a very solid dessert, but what I enjoyed the most were the caramelized bananas. I also had the beef tartare [$28] which was good, but it was maybe, a little, too overpowered by the vinegar or whatever acidic element was in it. I actually really loved the potato chips sprinkled on top. The cauliflower [$15] was also fine / good. It was cooked really well [roasted?] but definitely needed to be zhuzhed up by something more than romesco and a vinaigrette. Overall, I paid $113, after tax, before tip. read more
