    Salad bar and soup station

Hubby and I stayed in a hotel just behind this eatery. We flew into Reading PA to attend a funeral. When we flew in we were very tired (sleep deprivation) and starving. We just wanted to eat and crash. We were happy to see a restaurant we could walk to. We didn't know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. This diner is reminiscent of a homestyle family restaurant. Our waiter (Stacy) was excellent! She not only made sure our table was well attended but she did this to all of her tables. I asked her for her recommendation between 3 meals. All were good but her favorite was the Chicken Parmesan. She did not steer me wrong ... it was delicious! This meal came with all you can eat soup and salad, pasta and dessert ($13.99). My husband had the chopped steak w/mushroom gravy (under $16.00), baked potato and all you can eat soup and salad. The service was excellent, food pretty darn decent and the decorum holds your attention (signs and pictures). The next day we returned for a quick dinner. Again the server was excellent (Sara) and the meal pretty good (liver & onions and veggie stir fry .. soup and salad bar included). Even though our hotel offers complimentary breakfast we will return for breakfast before checking out of our hotel in the morning. Recommendation: Yes!

I believe Deluxe Diner is under new management. I am very impressed with their all you can eat salad bar and variety of options to select as your meal. They also offer all day breakfast. The diner offers both booths and tables and the environment is spacious and welcoming. The portion sizes of the entrees are large. You will not be disappointed! If you have an allergy, you can make modifications to your food as well. I am so happy to have a quality diner right down the road. I would definitely recommend!

were unable to finish the chicken Parm dinner. It was large portion.

The wrong way to add cheese to an omelette.

This place is like Ryan Howard. It has a few hits, but way more misses. And it's older than dirt. Seriously, there are some aspects of this place that are in dire need of an update. For one, the website. On the front page, there's a special offer of the month - come in with more than four people and receive a 10% discount! But just a heads up, the offer expires July 2013. The first time I was here, which was a few years ago now, I decided on an omelette with cheese. It came out with literally two Kraft singles draped on top that weren't even melted. It kind of scarred me a bit, but I decided to give this place another go. Maybe it was just an inexperienced cook? Well, I'm happy to report that the cook has learned something over the years. While he's still plopping individually wrapped slices of processed cheese directly on top the omelettes, they now come out melted. So that's a plus. Really, this wouldn't be an issue if there was enough cheese for every bite. The idea of mixing the cheese inside the omelet is that it's evenly spread out. Just look at my picture to see what I'm talking about. Service is good, I think? Perhaps too good. The server was quick to pre-bus the table (a good thing), but she hastily took dishes away with food still on them - food I had still planned on eating (a not so good thing). She didn't ask if I was still working on it, just swooped by and it was gone. Ok then. It wasn't all bad. The ketchup was good. The icing on the cake was the lady who rang me up at the register. Initially she was sitting nearby at the counter eating her lunch. As I stood there waiting to pay, she sprung into action. With a big mouthful of food still in her mouth, she was able to ask me how my meal was - barely. Tiny bits of food were propelled from her mouth and glistened in the sunlight as they hurled towards me. +1 star for the home fries. Even devoid of seasoning, the texture was spot on. Perfect balance of crispiness and tenderness.

My husband and I assessed Austin's differently. He ordered prime rib which he said was nothing short of perfect. Cooked medium rare as requested, tender, juicy -- he savored every bite. I scanned the menu. Nothing jumped out at me. (I generally don't gravitate to steakhouse-type restaurants.) I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs. My point of comparison is Longhorn's which offers more of a bang-for-a-buck, and in my opinion better tasting ribs. Not to say that Austin's aren't good. They are. Based on the popularity of Austin's, it's clear management knows what they're doing. But I think a small salad and baked potato should be available with the price of the entree -- not worth the extra $7 I was going to be charged. The salad is listed as 'field greens,' -- which it's not -- but reading the menu you'll see they mean iceberg and romaine. The salad was good, enhanced by their garlic ranch dressing. We washed down our meals with well-priced drinks: merlot ($8.90) and Blue Moon ($6.90), then splurged on dessert. Austin's flourless double chocolate brownie a la mode is very rich. One order for two adults is plenty. Austin's is aptly described as a family restaurant. A lot of kids. A lot of noise. Service is friendly and on-the-ball. While not my kind of restaurant, if prime rib is your thing -- this could be the place!

Located a bit out of the way in the Flying Hills golf course, but worth the drive. Sports bar- Eagles vibe w/ a decent draft list. The kegs weren't working (seems to happen at every bar we attend these days) but still enjoyed a Mike & Merrill Philly Hazy IPA. Wings a good size, crisp, you know, the way wings used to be before everyone started charging an arm & a leg & serving broken pigeon wings. Classic "Buffalo" sauce & blue cheese dressing were good. FINALLY tried famous Caramel Burger (which I missed several times at the Hamburger festival). It did not disappoint. Good size, flavorful patty, & what these people do best- the bacon jam & caramelized bacon. The sweetness of the onions sings thru. Order it! Husband ordered seasonal special Frikadellen/Bratwurst Smash Burger. Skipping right to it- the cottage fries. (Gracie's/Louie's if you had this all the time we'd have no beef! LOL) INCREDIBLE! Crisp, thin, tender, amazing. If you follow me you know I am over the frozen fries served at every eatery in this country. Finally, amazingly pleasant, genuinely happy, server- Reese. She was on my side throughout this whole foodie journey, even the beer & burger mishap (initially burger served w/o cheese sauce). She's a keeper! We'll be back & will spread the word! Till then, stay on your toes! Thank you Louie's for a great meal.

I mean I guess it wasn't that long ago, but it feels like a lifetime has passed in between. The bar that night was full of familiar faces. Groups of friends from both Wilson and Wyomissing neighborhoods had been unified with a common aspiration. After nearly two full days of agonizing rain delays, we were all about to witness the Phils bring the city of Philadelphia its first championship in 25 years (since 1983, before so many of us there that night were even born). This isn't Santino's of course, but it's impossible to separate those memories, which is probably the case for many of the folks still coming here who can remember fondly the mingling with family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. I'm glad this remained a restaurant and didn't turn into another spa or something. It's a bit harder to go to a spa and think hey I used to drink Jaegerbombs right over there by the koi pond and speaker playing soothing rainforest sounds. You can tell just by the sequence of naming conventions (from "Santino's" to "Tino's" to finally "State Hill Craft Cocktails & Kitchen") the kind of vibe they're going for here. The "Tino's" era, though brief, proved that you could keep the neighborhood charm and just slightly ratchet up the presentation, especially in the food and bar departments. Over time the menu has shifted from fine-casual Italian to more upscale comfort food, with wagyu meatloaf, lobster mac & cheese, and the always elegant, always dashing meatloaf patty melt. State Hill Craft Cocktails & Kitchen or whatever iteration of dining establishment will be there 15, 20 years from now (Luxe Carwash expansion perhaps) will bring together members of the community that wouldn't ever otherwise cross paths. New friendships will form, and old ones will strengthen. The atmosphere was electric that night in Santino's nearly 20 years ago. Everyone was elated, even people who didn't watch sports were happy because they could see other people were happy. For one night we could push everything else aside, the weight of responsibility and care lifted from our backs. A reminder that joy could be had, and our existences, though flawed, remained full of promise with even better days ahead. This is probably the least helpful review you've ever read LOL

One appetizer came out 20 minutes after that and then another 25 minutes after that the dinners came out. All in all... We didn't get any food for over an hour and 15 minutes. It was moderately busy when we entered, and was getting rather crowded by the time we left an hour later. I ordered one of their specials -- a breakfast burrito with eggs, potatoes, fresh tomato, green peppers, onions, and cheese, then wrapped in bacon and deep fried. The crispy burrito and bacon complemented the fillings nicely, and it was served with a crema sauce on the side. My dining partner got a strawberry cheesecake crepe, which had a generous amount of fresh strawberries and filling, and a pile of whipped cream on top. It too was delicious. The portions for both were perfect -- generous but not excessive. The coffee was good as well, which I can't say about a lot of places anymore. It was very clean and new inside, and the decoration was very nice. Modern and elegant, but with enough natural oak accents, basket-shaded lights, and plants to really brighten the space. The service was also excellent. They were fully staffed with many attentive employees available, and the service was on point. The food came out fast and hot. If I had one complaint, it might be that the A/C was a little strong. It's maybe a little pricey for breakfast compared to diner fare (almost every entrée was $10-15), but the value is 100% there. I'll be honest, I didn't know much about this place going in, but I'm really glad I went and I'll definitely be back. Walking in, the first thing you'll notice is a beautiful, large fish tank built right into the wall on your right. The restaurant is dim and upscale-feeling, but still very family-friendly and not loud or overstimulating, so you can actually have a conversation. They have both booths and tables, and the space is very open and spread out. As a parent, you can even strategically seat your family in view of the fish tank or the windows to give the kids something to look at. It's great for a casual family dinner, a date night, or even a birthday celebration. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible with no ramps, you can roll right in to your table. It's located in a plaza but set apart, so parking was never an issue. Plenty of spots, including handicap parking up front with just a short walk to the entrance. They have a solid variety on the menu including alligator bites, burgers, pasta, salads, and more. It is on the higher end price wise. Most entrees start around $14 and up, and even the kids meals begin at $8.90. The cocktail menu is extensive and the dessert menu is worth a look too. They also have a lunch menu where prices vary a bit more favorably. I ordered the Coastal Cheddar cheeseburger burger with no tomatoes and it was excellent. Very fresh, well seasoned, and served with shoestring fries that were equally on point. They also bring out a ciabatta loaf with butter to start, which was a really nice touch. Food came out quickly (always a plus). The staff is genuinely incredible. There's a tag team mentality where anyone on the floor can help you, refill your drink, or check on your table.
