I wanted to love this place- not so much! Service was very slow. No bread served. Salad just ok-nothing special. We had two pasta dishes that were fine. Let me first say that the new addition to this restaurant is amazing! Refreshing clean and inviting with tables and booths. It makes getting together with friends much more comfortable. The wait staff is incredibly pleasant and accommodating. The luncheon menu is amazingly affordable! A vast variety of lunch options from sandwiches wraps to complete meals for very affordable pricing. I had the chicken Parm with pasta and instead of a salad I got the wedding soup which was delicious. Previously, I got the wedding soup and a tuna sub. Everything was made to order and delicious. I absolutely love this place. The best Chicken Parmesan around the area. Fabulous garlic bread that's baked fresh in the oven. My wife loves the Penne Diablo and Buttana dishes because they're spicy. I've tried many things on the menu and everything is very good. The owner recently expanded to double the dining area size and it's very nice. Was just in tonight 7/27 around 545. Place was booming! All but one table was filled (granted it's a small place) but take out was also busy. Two ladies were working and I could tell they were busy so I would of had patience if they didn't get to me right away. However the older of the two asked how she could help me, I said if she needed a minute I could wait but she was on it and got my takeout order in.... Mind you I know plenty of people don't tip on takeout so as someone who has worked the industry I would of understood her putting her tables before me because she's there to pay her bills. (I did tip but she had no way of knowing if I would) so customer service A+ Food came out quick. I got a large chicken cheesesteak, fries and a slice in a little over ten minutes. My mom didn't eat the slice yet so I can't comment on that, I didn't even see it tbh. But the cheesesteak was delicious! Huge sandwich, just the way I ordered it. Super soft roll, didn't skimp on the meat. The fries seemed either over done or the fryer oil needed to be changed. They are the good battered fries though at least so I know under better circumstances I would of loved them. Maybe I should knock a star off for that, but really I won't because 1. Gino's Cafe owner Gino Billeci is one helluva nice dude. His restaurant catered a work event for me not too long ago, and he personally came out for a meet-n-greet beforehand. After our introduction, I realized he was right up the road from where I work so I made it a point to stop in for lunch. I've done so now on numerous occasions, and I'm rarely disappointed. Most weekdays the lunch hour is pretty tame. But on Fridays in particular, it can get bat$#&% crazy. Service takes a huge hit, since there is only one poor server all by her lonesome. The past few Fridays, she has had to handle about six or seven tables at once in addition to manning the cash register up front and any walk-ins/to-go orders. On top of that, she has to bus her own tables! Hire some more, help, Gino! This place truly is an "Italian-style diner". I mean, I don't know how else to put it. And it's certainly not a put-down. How many Italian restaurants do you know that open at 7:00 a.m. and serve BREAKFAST? So yes, in addition to all the Italian classics, Gino's serves up omelets and Belgian waffles in the morning and burgers and club sandwiches for lunch. Personally I have no idea why anyone would go to an Italian restaurant and order a burger, but hey, the option is there. Food-wise, the pasta sauce is on the sweeter side, the pasta is cooked perfectly, the pizza slices are HUGE, the Italian subs have a bit too much filler (lettuce) and not enough meats, and the breaded mushrooms are, well, breaded mushrooms. read more

3.5 stars for the food and subtract a .5 star for service and noise level. Finally tried this place over the holidays with my parents for dinner. The food was 'ok' but the best part of the meal shouldn't be the garlic bread. Salads that come with dinner are basic with standard vegetables and bottled dressing. They definitely could use either a simple quality homemade house dressing as an option or some grilled/sautéed vegetables to spruce up the salad. I got chicken cacciatore, my mom got chicken piccata, and my dad got mussels marinara. Sauce was kind of bland and the mussels were a bit overcooked. Still decent overall. Only meal that wasn't good was the chicken piccata. You really need higher quality chicken breast to make good chicken piccata. This wasn't it. Pounded too much as well which made it a bit tough. Our meals had very large portions and we all had enough leftovers for another meal. Prices are very reasonable especially with the senior prices for my parents. The downside was the service and overall noise level. It was very noisy even at 5:30 since it was crowded. Waitress didn't come back to fill our water glasses nor did she check how our meals were after she served them. She only had 4 tables and should have been able to handle it. I might order from here again but would get takeout instead. I would pay another $3-$5/meal with smaller portions for higher quality ingredients but that isn't the target market in Berks County. read more

Ok so while the food was good and prices were good, I gave them only two stars because of the service, I did a check in and was about to give them 5 stars until the waitress ruined the experience for me, I came on a Sunday and there was only three tables other than us, although there was a sign saying we should wait until seated but no one was there so we just sat down, we waited but no one came with a menu so I went up and asked for one, the waitress who was in the kitchen was sooo wired up, jittery and rambling and dropping plates and all over the place in a way that stressed me out, she got orders wrong and up until that point I was fine I thought well she's not really trained to be a professional but what the hell I can live with that, I ordered the kids pizza and loaded fries, she told me what did I want on the kids pizza and I told her pepperoni next thing I know she brought it out plain and said she forgot to tell the chef but she can tell him now, I said what the hell sure go tell him so she took it back and after few minutes the chef brings it back with no pepperoni I asked where's the pepperoni? He said oh one minute! Took it in then brought it back out with slices of raw pepperoni on top! At that point I was like ok well it's Sunday we shouldn't let that ruin our lunch, then after that point and as a mother of an active toddler I get the pleasure of putting the professionalism and manners of servers to test (not intentionally I promise lol) she started bitching loudly as soon as my son gets up, he stood up there and went to look at the desserts and she said to me "hey can you grab your son?" Then he went to the bathroom and same thing, he went to the kitchen door but before he reached it I was up to get him but still she had to say something and the funny thing is that she keeps rambling on and on for everyone how this kid is going here and there and she doesn't want him to get hurt so at that point I asked for the check and skipped dessert because I lost my cool at that point and didn't want stay there or have to be rude to her, then when we were going I asked here if it's ok to pour whats left from my soda cup to a to-go cup she said well soda is only one refill and you already had multiple refills but it's ok! And of course kept rambling shit I didn't hear in her jittery way and I didn't wanna argue with her because I know that arguing with a dumbass chatterbox goes no where. Bottom line: I will never come to this place again and will never recommend it to anyone, not before this lady gets proper training on how to carry herself with professionalism and dignity and show some respect, oh and learn that " free refill" in any restaurant means "refills not A refill", damn it if I came after work when I'm already stressed and looking to unwind I would've returned my food and demanded to see the owner of that place, but hey it's Sunday better just walk away than ruining the weekend spirit, I think she got lucky. read more

We've been there multiple times and the food is always very good. It is casual Italian eatery with extremely nice staff and servers.

Not what it used to be. The food is still pretty good but the service is touch and go. The woman who mans the front counter is abrasive and unwelcoming. Her voice is super loud! You will have to wait a while for your food, but it's pretty good. read more

I've only been here once and the food was very good. This is a small place with table seating. Service was fine. Bathroom was clean. Ordered food from here Sat 3/16. Cheesesteak salad and 12 piece bone-in Honey Mustard Wings. I was extremely disappointed. The wings were dry and chewy plus they forgot the requested side of extra Honey Mustard dipping sauce. The Cheesesteak Salad was just ok; the veggies were not proportionate to the cheesesteak. My family has ordered here dozens of times. Every time, food is fresh, delicious, and staff is always accommodating and friendly. Conveniently located for Shillington residents too. Not to mention that I worked as a therapist, I did tons of arts and crafts with my kids and clients. I stopped by and explained this to staff, asking for a few extra pizza boxes to use for crafts. Edited- Since my last review- this place has changed in my pinion. Pizza and cacciatore is still great, but I avoid eating in the dining area at all costs. It's cramped and there's only one waitress that smiles and chats. Therefore, I'm dropping the stars down to 3- purely for food quality. *** Original I really want to give 5 stars because I've never had a bad meal here.....but I'm dropping a star bc the dining room is cramped and waitresses always too busy to stand still for a second. I have eaten there a few times and each time it was as good as it could be. The place is very small and it can get crowded, but the food is great. Everything I have had there was wonderful and nobody in my group has ever had a bad thing to say about anything that was ordered. (The garlic bread is beyond excellent.) The food here is hit or miss. I've had the good and the not-so-good. The biggest problem is the service. The place is small, with limited seating, and it seems like they only ever have one lone server running themself ragged to handle the entire place. The owner probably believes that this will keep payroll costs down and save money, but in the long run, how much money is lost to customers who will never return due to poor service and negative dining experiences? My most recent (and last) visit was an attempt at a quick bite to eat with a good friend. We entered and saw that it was fairly busy but noticed at least two open tables suitable for two people. The sign posted in the entrance read "Please wait to be seated", which we certainly DID. And wait, and wait, and wait, and WAIT! The aforementioned lone server saw us and said nothing. The kitchen staff stared out at us and said nothing. As the minutes ticked away, we began to discuss where we might be able to get a meal locally. Guess what? It turns out that there are HUNDREDS of places to get a good meal; places where, even at the busiest of times, your presence - your very existence on earth, is at least acknowledged. After a long, rude wait, we walked out and took our business elsewhere, as we will ALWAYS do from now on. If Gino's won't even acknowledge my presence, then I'll gladly go somewhere where they WILL. read more

Placed our order at around 6:15. Four sandwiches and a tuna salad. She said 40 minutes. Got there and the ordered wasn't started. Sat in the car for another 30 minutes until order was ready. Got home. Open the tuna salad. First bites were good then I found the first long hair. Pulled it out of my mouth. Then the second was attached to a clump of tuna salad. That's it for us. It took 5 minutes to be seated and the waitress didn't say one word, showed us our seats and walked away. She came back still has not said one word at this point. I said "hello how are you this morning" and she replied with "good". She proceeded to just stare at us. I told her we weren't ready to order yet but I wanted a cup of coffee. Food remains ok but service seems to have gone slightly downhill. Additionally, you can no longer get a medium rare burger. I know many places have adopted this policy but I ordered medium rare and was told that was fine. Burger arrived medium well. When I asked why, waitress said "We can't do medium rare anymore, Sorry, I guess I should have told you when you ordered." ya think?? I didn't make a big deal out of it as waitress said that she would comp us a dessert. Upon leaving, I ordered a cannoli to go. The waitress charged us for it! If it was possible to give zero stars, I would. My 81 year old mother is handicapped with a rollator walker. The place was near empty with only two couples dinning. I requested a four top for the two of us because, not only was it dead in the restaurant, but mom needs a bit more space than a two top. I asked if they were expecting a rush, and the answer was no. The hostess said she did not want to give us a four top table, but did so with an attitude. Then a very rude server comes to the table and instead of introducing herself, she says the following "Um, just so you know it's our policy to not seat two people at a four top. Just so you know!" I then proceeded to tell her she can keep her table. Mom and I walked out the door and the waitress walked off. What a nightmare. I went in on a Saturday to place a takeout order. Four sandwiches and four cannolis. I seemed to be overcharged and when I asked about it I was told the cannolis were $5.00 even though I pointed out it said $3.00 on their menu. I let it go. I was told a 20 minute wait. I said ok. I saw other customers getting their orders filled who came in after me. 30 minutes go by, I m still waiting so I ask, and I'm told it will be "right up". I ask again 15 min later and I'm told any minute now. 15 more minutes go by. Still waiting. I would have left but already paid for the food. A waitress looked at me said "I cant believe you are still waiting, let me check." So a full hour goes by and finally it looks like my food is coming. 60 minute wait for four sandwiches and 4 cannolis, after being told 20 minutes. I was being checked out and the waitress came up and said "no way is he paying full price" which I appreciated. I figured I'd get something for that ridiculously long wait. They gave me nothing but she took my phone #. That was two days ago-never got a call. When I got home they had switched three large cannolis with 6 small ones which were not even close in size to the same amount as 4 large cannolis. So I was overcharged $12, made to wait three times as long as I was told, offered compensation and received nothing. Appalling level of unprofessionalism. I will never go back and will tell everyone I know to avoid this place like the plague. read more
