Stopped in for dinner and drinks before a show right when they opened and sat at the bar in the back area. They have a large hearth wood fired oven in the center, and the place has a rustic feel. Cocktail menu has some classy drinks on it. Drinks were made fine and priced reasonably well. The dinner menu has a bit of everything. Cowboy ciao salmon salad was crispy and fresh, large and chock full of mix-ins. The steak and gorgonzola pizza was perfectly cooked and the gorgonzola was phenomenally savory! Definitely was surprised how good this combo was on a pizza. Had peach tart for dessert which was alright but felt a bit lacking after such a strong dinner. Judy's on Cherry has been our consistent local "go to" for connecting with friends over dinner for years, which made our most recent experience wildly disappointing. We had a reservation for 6 and were seated promptly even though 2 of our party were 15 minutes late due to traffic. We placed our drink and food order, then waited for 45 minutes before flagging down our waiter to ask where the drinks were; they showed up 10 minutes later and the order was almost right. Almost 90 minutes in, our meals still hadn't arrived. I chatted with the owner, who said it was probably because two of our guests were late, but she'd check with her husband. Our dinner arrived by the time I sat down. My pasta special with mushrooms in cream sauce was spicy, which was not mentioned in the description. Another guest ordered a different pasta that was also spicy without warning. Both were plates of clumped up egg noodles with sauce on top. Almost no one finished their meal and it wasn't due to large portion size. When we asked for the check to be split into separate bills for two couples and two singles, the waiter returned with a per person total. As one guest had a salad and soda while another had two scotches and a steak, this was neither right nor what we requested. (The place had almost emptied out by this point, so it wasn't a big ask.) Ten minutes later, he returned with the split check. We each had been charged $3 for the bread he generously offered when we initially sat down. My pasta and mushroom special was $40, which seemed exorbitant for what it was. I understand that things happen... orders get shuffled, staff can be short-handed (which didn't appear to be the case)... but never was there even an acknowledgement that things weren't right, let lone an apology, and we ended up being 45 minutes late for an event. Never did hear from the manager, or receive any sort of comp on our checks... This rating even extends to the ladies' room, where one of the soap dispensers was empty, while the other seemed to be filled with plain water. At the end of the evening, someone mentioned that Judy's was under new ownership as of a few months ago. I truly wish them all the best, but none in our group will be recommending or returning. read more

Great spot for more formal dining with ample dining space located upstairs (there is an elevator for those who need it). The menu offers appetizers, soups, pasta, pizzas, salads, entrees, and desserts with at least several options under each heading. The food was tasty and well cooked, and the portions were ample to generous. The service was attentive. The establishment makes it clear that there is a mandatory gratuity for groups of six or larger, split checks are not guaranteed for larger groups, and there is a 3% surcharge for credit card transactions. Be mindful of what you order. It can add up quickly. My companion and I wracked up a $200 bill between our drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. Craig was our server. He did a great job across the board. However, for appetizers were great. The ceviche was on point. Asian meatballs were delicious. Entrees a different story. Seafood crepes had a smoked overdone flavor with minimal amount of seafood. The crepe was more like a pancake in the middle and the scallops were served with basically onion soup. I've been a server here for 2.5 years, and they have been the best working years of my life. Coworkers feel like family, and the guests do too! While the transition of the restaurants ownership has had more than it's fair share of unnecessary hardships, the same friendly welcome still radiates within the walls. It is still the same amazing building, with the same skillfully prepared from scratch menu, desserts made in house from scratch, perfectly crafted cocktails, and the friendliest atmosphere you could wish to dine in. Went to Judy's on a Saturday night and the place was jumping! Seemed like a good sign. Alas, we had a very mixed experience. We parked in a lot across the street which used to be hourly of maybe free but it's $10 now. We used park mobile to pay. We made a reservation for 6 the day before which they did not have but fortunately had a table for us anyway. Bumpy start. The whole dinner experience lasted just under 3 hours and when dinner was served it took almost 5 minutes to get everyone's meals. The meals: 4 out of 6 were excellent. They had a pork chop with cooked peaches which were awesome! We had 2 fillets and one was great but the second was cooked to temp but was a but dry and unseasoned. The veggies on this dish were also unseasoned and undercooked. Most of us had totally seasoned and cooked sides. We got a NY strip that came pre-sliced and it was cooked to temp but it was luke warm. It was the last of 6 dishes to be served, perhaps it sat for some time? We had a veggie lasagna which was not recommended by the server but was very much enjoyed. The service was OK and gratuity of 20% was automatically applied due to being a table of 6. Almost 3 hours is just too long and the food should be served at the same time. We really picked the right restaurant. Problem was the menu all looked so good we had to make choices ! Started with the grilled beet napoleon. My wife had the swordfish and I had the filet . Followed up with an awesome piece of cake and great coffee . Our waitress Shannon was awesome all the way . She even gave us a ride to the show we were going to after dinner . That was a true first ! Decent, but certainly not a fine dining experience. My experience wasn't great, but my appetizers were good enough that I'd give it another try. Better communication could easily have allowed many of the issues to be overlooked. First, the good: the appetizers I had were tasty. The vibe was very cute. The bad: I was sat at 5:40 on a Saturday, and needed to leave by 7 to get to the Santander Performing Arts Center. I ordered appetizers and a salad. I asked if the protein on one of the salads could be switched, she told me she'd find out but asked me for a back up order. She never told me the original salad I asked about was out of stock, just input my backup order with no communication. However, that wouldn't end up mattering. I had the dates which were PHENOMENAL! My fried green tomatoes were good, but they were fairly cold, and the lettuce they were topped with was frozen. I was stuffed after the apps and asked the server if I could cancel my salad. She told me it had already been prepared. 20 minutes later the salad I couldn't cancel because it was already prepared still hadn't arrived (I also was without a drink for that time, and was never given a chance to order another). I flagged down a woman who appeared to be a manager and said I needed to close out. I never saw her again. My server finally went by and I said I needed to leave. She didn't respond to me, presumably because she was slammed but it was unbelievably off-putting. I understand busy, but a sentence explaining what you're doing (which I didn't get from her or the "manager") would have made a huge difference. They took the salad (and an espresso I'd ordered that didn't arrive) off my bill. I would have appreciated them discounting a glass of wine or something n for the inconvenience, but I didn't even get a verbal apology. Following a visit I discovered Judy's helped themselves to my $. Went entire meal without a beverage, nearly choking at one point (I have braces), despite asking for water every time a plate of food was dropped off. Our experience included dinner being served 1 entree at a time, leaving 1 of us to eat while the other watched. HORRIBLE service which may be ok for Burger King, but not fine dining. I find it difficult to slight someone, so I still gave a 15% tip. My credit card statement arrived & tip amount was changed to 20% without my knowledge or permission. DON'T EVER HELP YOURSELF TO MY WALLET & expect to see me again! I wanted to call Judy to voice outrage rather than amend review, but they didn't have courtesy to discuss with me altering of the tip. If 20% is a requirement make it a advertised service charge. If my tip fell short of what's acceptable pay my table a visit & inquire about my experience. The only word I can use for this establishment is "Meh". After years of it being a gold star in Berks county it now feels as though you're an under appreciated patron being forced to pay for unreasonable things just to keep them in business. In a restaurant which charges an average of $30 an entree I do not expect to be charged to share a plate($5), to split the check......what?!?!?! And my all time biggest pet peeve being charged the 3% credit card fee! All of these nickel and dime charges are classless and I expect more from a restaurant of this price point. If you are unable to stay in business without these charges maybe it's time to close up shop Judy. Won't be back. read more

After ordering, I asked how a fried item is gluten free, someone came over and said the Menu needs to be fixed, and If you are really sensitive, do not eat that--after I had eaten some. My friend and I left without paying for anything since my symptoms take a few days to appear, and I was extremely unhappy at this point. SO good! But be warned if you go on a night when there's a show: make sure you have over 2 hours to spend. We had reservations but they were slammed. It took 45 minutes to get cocktails, over an hour before we got the appetizer, and an hour and a half before we got our entrees. As soon as we got the entrees we asked for the check because we were cutting it close getting to the show at Santander. One frustrating note: at the table next to us, a couple was finishing up their meal when we got there... they left and another couple sat and they must have known someone... they received their drinks, entree and meals before we got our appetizer... paid and left all before we got our entree. Best dinner I've had since we've moved here. Comparable to center city Philadelphia. Second time back last night. Very attractive and unusual setting. Great service. Husband loved his pizza. Focaccia from the same hearth is yummy. The squash and crab soup was superb. Not a heavy bisque, not too light, and very flavorful. Unusual but great Cowboy Ciao salad. Excellent desserts and coffee.
