If you had to break it down, aren't we all foodies? We need food to sustain our lives. However. If you tell me: O.M.G. The Jalapeno poppers at T.G.I Fridays changed my life!? I question your judgement and think you should not procreate. I pull into a strip mall. Walking into Sublime Cupcakes, its a small shop. It's pretty much see what you like, box it up and get out. No loitering! I chose a single cupcake, the Mostess. It was a take on a Hostess Cupcake. I do have to say I was very impressed with the packaging and presentation. The cake was fresh and moist but the filling is what gave it that chocolate / vanilla contrast, it makes you want to eat more. Its the same nostalgic cupcake we all ate as kids except this is not a mass produced product filled with junky chemicals. This is a chef'd up cupcake and commands the price. I've been wanting to try Sublime for quite a while. A few years back, when we were in the area, we got a copy of a Berks County magazine. On the cover were photos of various cupcakes in the area. The article about them mentioned Sublime but we weren't that familiar with the area at that point so we didn't know exactly where it was. When we figured it out, we didn't have the time to go there during later visits to the area. This past trip to the area, we discovered that Sublime was less than a mile away from the hotel where we were staying. I got directions and told my husband we were going. It's a small shop with only a few places to sit. We got 8 cupcakes and had the friendly young woman working there to put them in 2 boxes. We kept one for ourselves and the other was for our grandsons and son-in-law. Our grandsons and son-in-law tore into the ones we got them. We got a chocolate peanut butter for son-in-law. The peanut butter flavor was very prominent to the point when we opened the box, you could smell it right away. We got an assortment for the grandsons and they loved them all! I tried a vanilla one and a vanilla salted caramel one. My husband tried some seasonal ones---a pumpkin flavored one (can't remember the exact name) and a pecan pie one. While I liked the vanilla salted caramel one, I could barely taste any salt. It's a pet peeve of mine when salt is promised along with the caramel and it isn't there. I wish that they had amped it up enough to taste it. The vanilla was pleasant but, again, I wished that the vanilla flavoring was more prominent. My husband enjoyed both the cupcakes he tried. On our way back to VA, I told my husband that we were stopping in again in order to take some back with us. This time I got a red velvet one and an apple pie one. He got two pumpkin harvest ones. I liked the red velvet one and thought it was very well done. The apple pie one had pieces of apple in it, as well as some crushed peanuts on top. This, too, was very well done. My husband enjoyed the pumpkin harvest ones --- enough so that he said he would gladly go back to Sublime next time we were in the area. One thing that had me disappointed --- on their website, they talk about a cupcake called "mudslide" that has kahlua in it. I so wanted to try that but alas---it wasn't on the menu when we were there. We both agree with other Yelpers that the cupcakes are on the dry and somewhat dense side. However, we didn't think that it detracted from the flavorings at all. The frosting portion was just enough to compensate for the dryness. In the area, my favorite place is in West Reading---Ady Cakes. Ady is a "Cupcakes War" winner. However, her shop hours are limited. I appreciate that Sublime is open more hours per day. I'm usually not one to write reviews but I was extremely unimpressed with Sublime Cupcakes. I went on a Thursday and was able to get the daily flavor of champagne. This was actually pretty good, tasted fresh but still on the drier side. I also got a vanilla on vanilla and chocolate on chocolate... both were extremely dry, edges of the cupcake were so hard I had to remove, and the overall flavor was underwhelming. When I ordered the cupcakes, the lady (who was very friendly) went to what looked like the fridge instead of giving me any out of the case. Not sure why they did this, thought maybe because they keep fresher in the fridge but apparently not!! Those two cupcakes tasted days old and were inedible! Especially compared to the "flavor of the day" cupcake. If you're going to charge $3 a cupcake, I want it fresh and edible!! read more

I really wanted to love this place. Maybe it's not the same owners, maybe the recipe has been lost down the line but their batter is heavy with oil, it's a very dense oily cake. With no flavor, both the chocolate and vanilla taste like batter with no vanilla or coco in it. The icing is unbearable to eat, it tastes like cheap processed icing. I've tasted over 4 flavors and I couldn't finish any of them. Absolutely horrible cupcakes. I'll give it 2 stars for appearance. read more

I have gone to Sublime Cupcakes many times with my most recent visit Saturday, 9/18/21. My 12 year old daughter requested their cupcakes for her birthday. The menu states cupcakes can be purchased as a single ($3.25), half dozen ($17), and dozen ($30). We purchased a dozen but asked to split them in two half dozen boxes. The associate, Emily, charged us for a two-half dozen order which we questioned. She said that's company policy for the additional box. The menu states no such rule and the associate never mentioned it when we placed the order. We paid and left since it was my daughter's birthday but will not return again. I have no issues with the cupcakes but feel that's very poor customer service to charge $4 for a box. It's not like I requested a box for each cupcake. read more

We needed cupcakes for a special birthday celebration and I was pleasantly surprised to learn of this location near the event. I walked in around 3 pm on a Sunday and the selection was excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful. These are delicious cupcakes. You pay up but they are worth it as they are a good size (think standard plus a little) and the icing is plenty without being too much. Fresh milk available in the store, just in case. I had done a "scientific" taste test of four different cupcake places one weekend - I was truly bored - and found that Sublime is in the middle of pack. There are some that are better at the price and others that are better at the quality (i.e. moister cake). I find their flavour rotation to be commendable, but they do not always have them available at the end of the day for those that live in the area, but don't work in the area. Getting home after 5pm means slim pickings. Oh, and if it is towards the end of the day, it is best to call ahead. Managed to go today and was pleasantly surprised to find they had new cupcake flavors! Yes!!! Very happy with my selections. Had the strawberry short cake which the icing was perfectly flavored but the cake lacked that punch I wanted to bring me home. The bakers special Banana cream was my favorite! Very flavorful and exactly what you want if you like banana pudding! Very delicious! Margarita was a good cupcake but aside from the rock sugar, there was nothing special. The dirt was fun, icing light, and cupcake flavorful. I was skeptical but I would have it again. The banana was reminiscent of banana bread without the dense nature of banana bread. I would eat this again and before I ate banana bread. Great translation to cupcake. The final cupcake I had today was a piña colada. Very pretty presentation and perfect amount of coconut shaving. The icing has a hint of piña colada but like the strawberry, I just wanted a tad more in the cake. Overall, well done! Best cupcake place in the area (that I have found)! So I went to Sublime for the first time after one of my girl friends recommended that I should try it out. I went to Sublime to grab my boyfriend a box of cupcakes for his birthday and they definitely exceeded my expectation. The cupcakes are beautiful and the boxes they put them in are very cute and I'm a sucker for cute packaging so I was definitely impressed. I wanted try the cupcakes before I decided to write a review and I must say even though I bought the cupcakes two days ago, it was still very moist and tasty. My only thought about the icing was that it was just a little too sweet for me but it was still very good, so it just depends on how much of a sweet tooth you have and how much you can handle. I got a half dozen and a variety. They were all great from what I've heard. Presentation was perfect. Keep in mind, they are a bit pricey. My half dozen was $14 and a single cupcake is almost $3, FYI, they also have mini cupcakes as well but you can't purchase those individually you must buy in bulk and they don't always have every cupcake they make available to display so what you see is what they have. Overall, I was happy the cupcakes tasted great, customer service was good, the young girl was able to answer my questions and I had a good visit and Sublime was a great find. My daughter and I hit the cupcake jackpot by stumbling on this joint after lunch near by on Black Friday. We walked in to a jam packed store and I asked if we could get just two and was told it Black Friday $1 cupcakes. Awesome! We got a box of 12 and the presentation is NYC quality. I will say I agree with other reviews that the cake is dryer than it should be and there is too much icing (although it is tasty). Wow! These cupcakes were the WORST cupcakes I have ever tasted! My family ordered half a dozen (all different flavors) after our family's hairstylist recommended the place. Maybe other people had good batches, but these cupcakes were FAR from fresh! These cupcakes were DEFINITELY not made today. The frosting on all cupcakes also tasted like sugar paste instead of a creamy blend, as frosting usually is. The cake crumbled easily but was stiff of course from being older. None of the flavors were spectacular. Vanilla is probably the easiest flavor to pull off but this was such a blah vanilla... essentially tasteless. The designs were uninspired. Only the peanut butter cupcake had any sort of design but the others had just sprinkles. For a bakery business, these cupcakes were horrendous, especially for the price. My sister has made better homemade cupcakes for her friends' birthdays! The customer service was also ridiculous. I asked the woman at the register what her favorite flavor was (shouldn't that be an easy question for someone at a bakery?) and she couldn't give me a proper answer. We also purchased several drinks and were not given a bag. When we asked for one, the woman left a paper bag on the counter for us to take care of ourselves. She was also texting in our presence. This place is over-rated. Seriously, I don't get the whole cupcake rage. I stopped here after lunch nearby and bought two cupcakes; Tiramisu and Clementine. The cake was dry, overbaked and almost tough. My son can make better cupcakes from a box mix. The flavers were good, but I could have gotten that from just eating the frosting. The ratio of frosting was 2:1 to the cake. Also, they are a bit pricy, but then to have a stor that just sells cupcakes, you have to pay for your overhead. I ordered cupcakes for my son's high school graduation, in lieu of a cake. They were a total hit -- our guests loved the flavor variety and the "fun" quotient was high! I should also say that we had them delivered to our Oley home, and they arrived at the exact time I had requested, the delivery woman was simply wonderful, and they were packaged so that they weren't all smashed together. I went to the Lititz location and was excited to see Peep cupcakes for Easter. I started to ask for a specific color and was interrupted by the clerk who told me that I can't pick a color and must take what they give me. They didn't want to be stuck with one color at the end of the day. This certainly isn't a customer friendly policy and I guess they forgot that I was paying for it. Saw this place as I was coming out of Isaac's and I thought, what the heck, why not? $2.50 for a cupcake is why not. However, my curiosity was piqued, so for a Vanilla2 (a vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream frosting) I forked over enough money to buy two boxes worth of Betty Crocker cake mix AND the frosting to go along with it, and basically got the same result, minus 23 cupcakes. I taste-tested cupcakes from five bakeries in the Reading and Lancaster areas and ultimately went with Sublime for my wedding. The chocolate cake is perfect, while the vanilla is a little too heavy for my taste. We've gotten cupcakes from here many times since they opened and they are always tasty. Yes, they are expensive compared to baking a cake at home. But at $14 for a half-dozen they are a nice treat and you can try a bunch of flavors. Check their website for the daily flavor menus and plan accordingly. Sublime is definitely the best "cupcake store" in the area and their seasonal flavors are usually on point. My only wish is that more of their offerings had some kind of flavored center to deepen the flavor profiles, like their Black Forest or the weekly special of Tiramisu we just had - - delish! A little tip - - if not eating them as soon as you get home, drape a piece of plastic wrap over the cupcakes to keep the frosting from hardening on top. read more

I was very excited to try this place and picked up a dozen cupcakes to celebrate our 32nd anniversary last week. I was very disappointed, to be honest yes they use fresh ingredients but the cupcakes seemed like they were a few days old. They were dry. The frosting was bland. And size was in my opinion small for price(28.00 per 12) I felt I could do just as good if not better at home. So in closing cake needs to be fresh! Frosting pop with flavor really vanilla or peanut butter or whatever just a lot more and size larger but most importantly appealing to the eye, make them pop! Say u must have me! This is my favorite cupcake shop in town. They have my favorite cupcake, Banana Nutella. It is a banana cake with a nutella frosting...mmmm mmmm. I am not a huge buttercream fan, but those who are say their buttercream is amazing. They have a wide selection each day and the prices are fair. It smells amazing inside the shop and their display makes it very difficult to only leave with the cupcakes you came there planning to buy. I bought 4 cupcakes this past week and they were a huge disappointment, I love all things sweet but unfortunately the cupcakes were incredibly dry, they frosting was so grainy and overly sweet, not to mention they were very small, the cupcake barely made it to the edge of the wrapper and the rest was all frosting. We Chose 4 flavors, The vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting tasted like corn bread, the chocolate frosting on the chocolate cupcake was so grainy, the s'more was the worst! As soon as I bit into it just crumbled, It also had a hard blob of chocolate in the middle and the frosting smelled like raw eggs! The last one was supposed to be banana but did not taste like banana at all. I honestly don't think $12 for 4 cupcakes is a lot of money but for the size and taste and texture of these...huge waste of money. There is simply no way these cupcakes were fresh. So sorry. read more
