    Birthday cake macaron
    Heather S.

Been wanting to try this location for a few years a finally got to. It's a small store that smells amazing when you walk in. The macaron, cake pops in the case look so tasty as did the cupcakes. I ordered 12 macaron mixed flavors for the family to try and 6 mixed cupcakes. Total was 55 well within range for these shops. We tried 5 different flavors of the macarons and they all tasted the same. Like the overly sweet icing on cakes when you were 5. The pumpkin I could taste a hint of pumpkin but the icing in the middle was so over powering it over took the flavor. While these are "sweets" I don't want to just taste sugar. And macarons should been on the lighter side. These were heavy and very chewy. The cupcakes....... Very top heavy. More icing than cake. Overly sweet no real distinct taste between the 6 we got. We were disappointed to say the least. I really wanted to like a local shop since we usually have to travel towards Hershey for macarons but both items disappointed us. We usually always try a place at least twice but, I don't believe we will be back.

"Cut the cake Give me a little piece" (Average White Band) Ady Abreu Miriello, the namesake of Ady Cakes, has quite an interesting backstory. She was a ballerina, an then an engineer before she transitioned into an award winning cake artist by taking first prize on an episode of Food Network's competition show Cupcake Wars. Her store -Ady Cakes, is located in the heart of West Reading, PA's sweet little downtown and has been around since 2007. They sell 18 flavors of very reasonably priced ($3) cupcakes, 13 French Macarons at $2,50, 4 kinds of Cake Pops at $2.50, plus mini cakes, mini cupcakes and cookies. We picked up two cupcakes - coconut and chocolate iced chocolate. My chocolate cupcake was delicious! Super creamy decadent icing over soft as silk chocolate cake. It was pretty much perfection. The store interior and exterior are very pretty with pink accented curtains and a pink awning. The young lady who served us was helpful and just as sweet as the cupcakes we walked out with.

I really want to like this place, especially since they won Cake Wars. Their cupcake icing is buttery smooth but all of their cupcakes taste the same to me. The best thing I've tasted here are their cake pops, specifically the chocolate and vanilla flavors. Their cake pops are super moist on the inside, but I had to wait a little to eat them because the outer part was cold (guessing they keep them cool to preserve them.) Cute little spot in West Reading but I'm still on the hunt for a really good dessert spot!

My NEW favorite bakery! I wish Ady Cakes was closer to where I live but it's well worth the day trip to West Reading. Ady Cakes is a very small, but super cute shop with plenty of delicious sweets to choose from. We stopped in on a Saturday, close to closing time so there wasn't much left to choose from, but what we did select, we absolutely LOVED! Our sweet treat included a Red Velvet cupcake & Chocolate Chip cupcake. Oh my goodness, talk about melt in your mouth kind of good! This was hands down one of the best cupcakes I've ever had. If you're in the area, absolutely stop in or order some baked goods online! We will 100% be back for more cupcakes!

***** 4 1/2 Stars**** While walking back to our hotel after having had dinner, we stumbled upon Ady Cakes. And what a serendipitous find it was! Seeing the sign that said "cakes" and "cupcakes", well...how could I resist cupcakes? So, I entered into a very small shop that had a sign informing customers that Ady Cakes had appeared on "Cupcake Wars"! There were 2 customers ahead of me which gave me time to look at the offerings. The clerk was telling us customers that Ady Cakes was going to be on "Cupcake Wars" on May 6th. The customers in front of me asked if Ady had won and the clerk said that they weren't allowed to say until the episode aired. She also added that there was going to be a party at a restaurant next to the hotel we were staying at. Everyone was invited to come and watch the episode. Too bad we were leaving to go back home that day :( I chose one all vanilla cupcake and 1 chocolate mint one. Each cupcake cost $2.50. Later in the evening, we gave them a try. They were delicious! The cake was dense yet not too dense as it was moist and flavorful. I had the all vanilla one which tasted and smelled like a birthday cake. It had good vanilla flavor without being too sweet---just the perfect amount of sweetness. My husband had the chocolate mint one. Upon opening the plastic container it was packed in, the air was redolent with mint. Again, the cake was dense enough and moist enough. The frosting had excellent mint flavoring and the cake tasted of both chocolate and mint without being too rich. My husband raved about his cupcake! I can't wait to see how the owner, Ady Abreu, does on "Cupcake Wars". However, I do know this---next time we're in town, we're going to buy more of her cupcakes. The clerk who waited on us was very friendly and helpful. Even though the shop was cramped, it was a cheery place.

My girlfriend grew up in Reading and while we were having lunch at Chatty Monks told me all about the cupcake store down the block that won on cupcake wars on one of the food channels. Now I'm not a sweets kind of guy, but you say cupcake and I'm down (hence my love of the cupcake place we visited in Baltimore). We got there late in the day (2pm) and there few selections. We asked for a 6pack sampler to take home and shared one on the way. First the buttercream icing is amazing and the cake was so moist. I am in no way an expert on cakes and desserts, but if I'm going to eat only a few cupcakes a year, this is my first stop.

Birthday Cupcake Dozen. Love the packaging and the candles. The flavors are delicious. My moms favorite was the pistachio and cardamom.

I ordered a Birthday Cupcake dozen to be delivered with GrubHub as a surprise for my mom. They were delivered quickly, the presentation and packaging was very nice, came with happy birthday candles, and my mom said they were DELICIOUS with a capital D!

Ordered a cake for a 50th wedding anniversary. When we set it up at the party we noticed the "5" looked like an upside down "2." Emailed Ady Cakes that night, not even asking for a refund. Got a horribly rude email back. Customer service goes a long way. (Names have been taken out for privacy) Email to Ady Cakes (note - never asked for a refund): Hello. The cake was delicious and all around looked good. However, the "5" is actually and upside down 2. Numerous people made comments and it was very embarrassing for me. Paying $215 for a cake with an upside down 2 is totally unacceptable. It's a very unfortunate event as my usual cake lady closed her business and I've been Searching for a replacement, not only for our usual 6-8 cakes a year, but to refer all my clients to as well. I'm hoping that as the owner of the company, it was not you, but rather a careless employee who decided to use the "2". I'm hoping we can agree on some type of resolution to this. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Her email back: Hello: This is Ady, the owner. I'm so sorry to hear you were not satisfy with the shape of the #5 on the cake and I'm actually quite shocked at your comments. The #5 is not an "upside down 2" it's simply the shape of the cutter, I've been using the same cutter for over 9 years and nobody made that assumption before. I will be more than happy to show you our cutters but since you didn't like it I feel is not necessary. The cake was not done by a "careless employee", the cake was done by me. I'm happy to hear you think the cake was delicious and in your words "looked good", I think the cake looked amazing! but for you to expect a "resolution" (refund?) over the the fact you didn't like the shape of a number, (regardless of how good the cake tasted and how good it looked) I find it quite insulting. I don't think this cake will automatically lose its value or that you are entitled to a "resolution" because of such an odd complain. I personally put many hours on each and every detail, and the cake it's impeccable. Regarding the cost, $215.00 is a great price based on the product that we produced and you agreed to it previous picking up the cake. Quite frankly if there will be complains over price (afterwards) and picking the cake apart to find menial faults I rather us not to engage on future business. Best luck to you, Have a sweet day.

We had a tough time finding a Macaron we liked and ventured to The Golden Whisk after trying 4 previous bakeries and were pleasantly surprised. The baker explained they make their Macarons with White Chocolate Ganache, but they would make a few samples with other filling if I could come back next week (I, the bride do not like chocolate). So we left this day with bellies full of other sweets (highly recommend the lemon bar and a Chai Tea Latte) and waited a week to return. We came back the following Saturday to pick-up a sample, to our surprise there was not one but multiple samples with non-chocolate ganache filling (amazing) AND the baker hand wrote on each to make sure we knew what we were trying. We were very happy with the the samples and moved forward with ordering a Macaron Tower for our Wedding with the Chai (cream colored) and Cookies & Cream flavors (black & white colored).... TO DIE FOR, these flavors were BETTER than the samples and we didn't event try either of these flavors previously! We highly recommend The Golden Whisk for your next event or just stop by to grab yourself a drink and a pastry (we are from southern York it's work the drive).

WORK REVIEW: poor leadership and HR enablement created a dysfunctional work…read more * this is my opinion based on my experience working there* I was the assistant manager at Cafe Sweet Street for a little less than a year. I have a lot of experience in management in another industry but I was excited to get this role as I've always wanted to get into food. Upon starting, my experience was great. It's a fairly easy job and you also get a free meal each shift. That being said, when I was told about all the turnover they experienced - I was confused. I was primarily tasked with running the front of house. The General manager(GM) was also the head chef and primarily managed the kitchen staff. During my first few weeks there, the front of house girls trained me on what to do and it became clear very quickly, that no one had properly trained them. There were no standard expectations set for cleanliness, how food or drinks should be made, and the girls just kind of did whatever they wanted. I quickly took action to set expectations, improve customer service, re-train the girls on cleanliness issues and how to operate the coffee bar. Over the course of my year there, it became very clear to me that the GM was a primary issue. He was rarely present in the cafe, did not take the time to train his people or set expectations, yet, GM would seemingly get upset when things were not done to his liking. Other issues that I observed goes as follows: GM would be passive or speak condescendingly to the girls, make it difficult for more than one person to call off at a time, would not help the FOH staff out if they needed it, and would never take responsibility/accountability when he was wrong. GM would react unprofessional when a pregnant team member started to have a lot of appointments because it would mess up the schedule. Due to frequent call offs, there were many times where I had to close kitchen and FOH alone because GM could not be bothered to stay beyond his scheduled time. It was a running joke throughout all of Sweet Street that he was an asshole. And if you did not know, he is also related to the owners.. which he would often complain about the owner and how she was extremely difficult. Anyways, when I went to finally address these issues with him, he wanted to have a meeting with HR. When we had that meeting, it was a "surprise review" for me rather than a conversation to address some of my concerns as we had previously agreed on. GM took this opportunity to turn the issues on me and made it seem like I was the one who was not doing my job. Mind you, I did not have a single write up my whole time there. As a result of this "meeting" turned ambush, I decided to resign right then and there. When I finally got to addressing my issues, the head of HR (HHR) all of Sweet Street decided to dismiss all of them, gaslight me and continued to enable GM by avoiding any form of accountability. I want to make this abundantly clear: HHR only seems to care about protecting Sweet Street the company, not the employees. I have visited the cafe a few times since resigning because I still have old co-workers there who I visit and the food is decent. Well, my last time visiting the cafe The HHR approached me and asked to speak with me. When getting to her office, she very rudely flooded me with questions, one of which was "why would you ever come back to the cafe?"(mind you, I am a customer who has returned to the cafe several times to eat since resigning). When I told her that I still have old co-workers here and do not mind supporting the cafe by eating here, I was told "we don't need your support" and that I am not welcome here. This is both funny and ironic because the cafe does not seem to be receiving a lot of business most of the time and would more than likely benefit from my support. I suppose what I had addressed from the "meeting turned ambush" left an impression. Anyways, i will not be going back but this is an FYI to anyone applying. I have even heard that they already turned around a couple more people.
