I find it hard to find an electrician, plumber, general contractor, etc. If you're old and ignorant like me, you have no way of knowing if what the professionals tell you is true, if their estimates are gouges vs. reasonable. I was DELIGHTED with Delta and with Derrick. The initial communication was same-day. He arrived within the promised window on the next working day. (I did not have to wait for 3 weeks.) He knew EXACTLY what the problem was, diagnosing it immediately. He had equipment with him--screws, etc.--that had nothing to do with electricity per se. There were no up-sells or gouges; he told me that my bell box was old and worn out, but that I didn't necessarily have to purchase another one if he could get the screws to "catch." Many times, if you search a business and they have no reviews, it gives pause, right? Well... ... ...some established businesses don't have a lot of posted reviews because they do just fine with word-of-mouth. I am "sold" on tradespeople who have enough experience to charge by the job and not by the hour. I value personal service over getting a "deal." I don't review publicly when I have a negative experience--I deal with the issue in private. So, if you think my reviews are worthless because I am generous with my ratings, please believe it's because I post reviews for "OQP." ("Only Quality People.") These guys are the real deal. Shun Delta Electric if you want professional electrical work done efficiently and meeting city and PG&E codes. Don't be taken in by their initial friendly gestures, and don't rely on them to do the job following standard codes and procedures! Their charges though not high, is about the median going rate, but for all the risk that you are taking with PG&E or the city, and the potential money you have to spend to rectify the bad job that is done, it is totally not worth it! Delta Electric's electrician, Derrick came to give me a quote for panel upgrade from a 200A/24-slots panel to a 225A solar ready panel and adding circuits plus outlet/disconnect for EV charger, electrical oven/range, heat-pump mini-split, heat-pump water heater, and electrical dryer. I was told it would take 10 days, give and take, I had thought 2 weeks would be sufficient and not expecting past 3 weeks, instead, my project dragged on for 2 months! Derrick had to do another panel swap mid project because he had installed a 200A/24-slots solar ready panel instead of the original quote of 225A solar ready panel and there were not enough slots for all the circuits (I had expected an experienced electrician to know to install a 225A/30-slot panel since I had told him I am electrifying the house, plus the original panel had 24 slots and fully used), for this I was asked to pay an additional thousands for the panel swap! This wasn't fair as the quote given had stated 225A solar ready panel, which Derrick tried to argue that the 200A/24-slot panel he originally installed had a max current rating of 225A! Nonsense, max current is a margin to provision for load spike -- I had to pay him to get the project moving since it was already mid-project and delayed. Meanwhile, after about the first week of work, Derrick started to go to the house late in the evening to do work and turning on loud music and working sometimes past midnight, which of course resulted in numerous neighbors' complaints that I had to deal with. Derrick never admitted wrongdoing, instead he insisted I have nosy neighbors. The next shock was Delta Electric and Derrick did not follow standard procedure for panel upgrade to apply for PG&E electrical disconnect and reconnect (I see that there was a separate review by another homeowner who experienced similar with Delta Electric). I had to rush to do all the paperwork with PG&E and beg PG&E to come do the electrical re-connect for me, in the process discovering that Derrick did not follow PG&E's Greenbook on clearance around the panel. After much struggle with PG&E on my own, I finally got approval from PG&E to come do the electrical re-connect, was a painful experience. Finally, Derrick did a very bad job on the stucco around the panel, not only did he not match the pattern of the stucco walls of the house, the stucco fill around the panel is lumpy and patchy! He also have no respect for the house and left lots of stucco stains and paint stains on my pavers! I have to bring in paver contractors to clean up the mess and cost me lots, the paver contractor looked at the panel and was shocked, commenting that it is the work of a non-professional contractor without respect for the house! There are many more I could complain about Derrick's sloppy job -- like nailing down on my wood floor as markers for himself when he work in the sub-floor! Worst of all, he would deny and pretend he doesn't know any of these and pretend to help pull out the nails that leave holes everywhere! read more

I needed to change my main panel from 200A with a 100A busbar to one with a 225A busbar and a service disconnect switch to support some Tesla Powerwall 2s and was referred by Clean Solar. Donna was really friendly and helpful with the entire process. She kept me in the loop with timely emails and calls and she was easy to talk to. She worked her magic to get PG&E to approve as quickly as possible and scheduled the city inspection which went smoothly. Derrick, who did the initial evaluation was friendly and answered all of my questions. Michael and his colleague did excellent work with the removal and install of the new main panel. This was during the middle of a rainy day too! They even patched the stucco around to match exactly the surrounding texture. I was very happy with that especially. I tried to get an estimate for a 200 Amp service upgrade. Having been in the trades (more than 10 years ago, but I know my way around contractors) I am very disappointed, but not at all surprised, by the poor customer service. They have a live chat on the website, but that person isn't actually there to help, just feed you to a sales person on the phone. Which wouldn't be the end of the world, except the sales person isn't there to answer the phone. There's no excuse for not posting a price range for common services like a 200 amp upgrade. It is a pretty standard job that is generally billed out at a flat rate anyway, though there can be variances. I don't expect a down to the penny price, but are you $3000? $5000? $12,000? Yes, under ground is more than overhead, but again, it's generally pretty standard with some parts that are variable. I just don't understand why companies continue to play this hide and seek game with the pricing. It wastes my time and it wastes theirs. read more

I had my house rewired from the knob and tube. The team was fast and very efficient. He walked me through all of the major decisions and gave me pros/cons for each option which was very helpful for me. Some things that i noted about the whole process that you want to keep in mind: - if you're on a time deadline, you want to factor in an extra day or so. My job was estimated to take 2-3 days and it actually took longer, which was not a problem since them came back the following week to finish the job. They didn't leave anything exposed or out of service when they left - if your job requires any decision of equipment from them (light switches, can lights, ceiling fans, etc), make sure to review those options before the team arrives and get everything in writing. We had a very old breaker box that finally started having mechanical issues with the main circuit, leaving about a third of our house without power. I called Delta Electric on Friday and they said they could have someone out Monday to do a temporary repair and then they'd be able to replace the box itself in a couple of weeks. Monday morning two very nice gentlemen showed up, took one look at our box, and said it wasn't even worth repairing and that our money would be better spent just swapping it out now. They quoted us a price that was lower than the averages we've seen for the same job, and then got to work. Later that day we had a huge new box, power back to the whole house, and they also fixed a couple outlets that had never worked since we moved in. Quick, professional, and reasonably priced! These guys are as good as it gets. I am very happy with the entire process of scheduling and the job performed. I needed help getting the team to make my home a smart home along with the installation of newer fans. They came in, single pole, installed 3-way and 4-way smart switches along with smart plugs. Derrick came along with Salvador and Michael and got the job quickly done, including installation of the dreaded neutral wire where required. There was nothing they could not do! This is a review that I never imagined I would be posting. We began with Delta 9 years ago when we bought our house. We did our homework, checked the reviews, the BBB, everything you can imagine. We have had them change lights, install ceiling fans, even upgrade an electrical box. That is when, unforturnately, 9 years later, our electrical nightmare began. Three years ago, we asked Delta to change out an electrical box. Being a first time homeowner, we didn't know then the questions we should have asked. Delta disconnected the power (our first mistake), changed the box, and then reconnected the box (our second mistake). Delta told us they put in a temporary tie-in from the house to the pole (not allowed) and we were assured that PGE would be out to complete the work. Not so. Three years later the temporary tie-in is still up. We have contacted Delta and talk to Donna several times about this, but nothing has been corrected. PGE has since told us that Delta was not authorized to disconnect and reconnect the PGE powerline, and that Delta never filed the proper paperwork with PGE to have it done correctly. In August 2018 we had our roof done and the roofers were concerned about the safety of the "temporary" tie-in. We tried to reach out to Delta to get this issue resolved. Not only have they not responded to any phone messages or emails over the past 5 weeks (and there have been many), but the one time we finally got a hold of someone (it was Derrick), we were hung up on. Due to the concern we have about the box and the amount of work they have done on the house, we will be taking our business elsewhere. And I strongly recommend that other people do so as well. Their professionalism only seems to extend to when things go right. And they do not follow the rules that PGE has laid out for safe electrical work. When things go wrong they do not stand behind their customers, leaving their customers to fend for themselves. read more

Everything started out OK... I called to make an appointment. Told them the story about how power went out in one of the rooms on my house and how I was using extension cords to power it. Got a same day appointment with a time window of 2-4 pm. Got a call at 2:22 that they were running behind and would be later. Told them fine and thanked them for the heads up. Was even told they would call and update me and keep me posted. 5:30 pm no call no answer no show. Called the next day and got voice mail and didn't get a return call. Thankfully I found another electrician on yelp BAY LIGHT ELECTRIC. They came out the same day and hooked it up. I won't ever consider using delta again. read more

Delta Electric installed recessed lights in my kitchen ceiling. They kept burning out and I learned they had installed the wrong kind of fixtures. The insulation in my attic was causing the fixtures to over-heat. I called within the month (one year warranty on this job) to report the problem. They set up a time to come over and fix the problem but never showed. I called back, set up another appointment, they never showed. After this, I couldn't even get them to answer the phone. They do not honor their warranties, so beware. They did other minor work in the house and did a good job and the price was excellent. But beware of shoddy workmanship, and the warranty is a joke. read more

OK. So I can't imagine having a better experience than the one I had with the guys at Delta Electric who replaced my electric panel. A little backgound. The original panel from my 1968 house had failed and four different electricians told me the lines coming into the panel from PG&E were too short. New codes from PG&E require the meter be a minimum of 48 inches off the ground. The PG&E wires coming from the ground into my panel were supposedly too short to meet the new 48" height requirement. This meant I was not only going to have to pay an electrician to put a new panel in, but I was also going to have to pay PG&E to extend my wires (which would have cost an additional $4k). Enter Delta Electric who managed to install the panel without PG&E extending the power lines. They did this with permits from both the City of San Jose and PG&E. Oh. And the icing on top of the cake? They replaced the panel for $1,000 less than the next lowest quote. So if you add the expenses I saved by not having to extend the power lines, Delta Electric saved me about $5k. They were courteous, on-time, and always advised me on their progress and plans. Their bid was competitive, and they demonstrated clear knowledge about the best practices for safety in dealing with aluminum house wiring. The ceiling light fixture above our stairway suddenly dropped down due to a bent swag hook that had been bearing the weight of the fixture. It was the day before Thanksgiving and I was needing someone to repair. After calling multiple electricians, I spoke with Derrick at Delta Electric. Not sure why I did not reach out to him initially as we are neighbors, but thankfully, he agreed to come by. He wasn't available until early that evening, but I was impressed that he was even willing to come, seeing that it was the night before Thanksgiving. He, by far, is the most knowledgeable, professional, and courteous electrician I have had the pleasure to meet. Within an hour, he had accessed my attic in order to reattach the electric box, reattached my ceiling light fixture and installed a new swag hook. I called Delta when I had a problem with my electrical panel caused by a short from an outside outlet that got water inside it. Sandy came out and quickly diagnosed the problem and was able to get me up and running. He told me my Zinsco brand panel was dangerous and has caused fires in homes. He told me to do my own research, so I did and found out that the Zinsco panels have caused fires due to the breakers not tripping when a circuit gets overloaded. Sandy gave me a quote to replace the panel and said I could apply the service charge for diagnosing the problem to the cost of the new panel. When I saved up enough bucks to get the work done, I decided to check a few other companies to make sure I was getting a good deal. Sandy's quote was by far the most affordable. So, I decided to use Delta. A crew of three guys came out and made quick work of the installation. They showed up early and were finished by 2pm. They did a great job installing it and patching the stucco afterward. I would definitely use Delta again if I have any other electrical issues I can't handle myself. read more

Delta's employees are more competent and knowledgeable than management. This seems like a situation where the electricians are employed to take advantage of managements license. They installed A new panel and circuit to support a hot tub. However, they failed to scope out the job correctly and were going put the circuit by the water outlet until one of the electricians caught it. They had to charge me more to move it but did not take ownership of the error so I had to split the cost. Also, management underestimated time required for installing low voltage backbone and hookup to existing LED's. Doubtful I would ever use them again. read more
