Can't say enough great things about this team! We were referred to them by a friend whose Contact for them in her phone says "My Awesome Electricians" - very true! The entire team, from the office to the junior techs are easy to work with. Unlike many contractors, they communicate clearly and often, about schedule, price, work to be done. And best of all they do EXCELLENT work! They replaced our Zinsco panel which was preventing us from getting homeowners insurance. After Dollens Electric replaced my service panel, I found I couldn't open the panel cover. The culprit was stucco left all over the hinges. I brought this to Jason's attention, and he promised to send someone out to fix it, but no one ever showed up. I sent another message to follow up and was completely ignored. I recently used Dollens Electric to rewire the majority of my house, replacing the old knob and tube wiring with modern and safe (code compliant) wiring. It was a fairly big job, which included relocating and upgrading the service panel on my house and almost three weeks of work. We also added Cat6 cabling and installed home theater speaker cable runs. Jason and his colleagues were excellent, providing very clear communication and doing thorough work. All work was done with permits, which were arranged by Dollens Electric and everything went smoothly with the inspections. Dollens did a complete rewire of our 1920 home, including fire alarms, phone and cable wiring. They installed a new panel, 220 service, fire alarms, exterior security lights, ceiling lights, fans, and dimmers. They handled the entire permit process Jason provided an accurate estimate and began work on time. I added in additional requests and they quickly provided new estimates and included the work. I felt comfortable leaving them with keys to the house. Jason asked how we would use each room and where furniture would be placed before installing outlets and light switches. After the work was done, Jason came out and showed us how to use our security lights and adjusted them so that they didn't shine in the neighbor's windows. The phone and satellite company installers were impressed with our new wiring and only needed to run their wires to a central patch panel. I am very pleased with all the work. The ceiling fans are whisper-quiet, even at top-speed. The outlets are in the perfect location in every room. Nice job extending an tapping into an outlet in the attic and adding a duplex in a closet to power some components. Original attic outlet had no ground wire, so found one in another outlet in attic and grounded both the existing and the added one. WHAT A SCAM!!! BAIT AND SWITCH!!! DO NOT HIRE DOLLENS ELECTRIC!!! My husband found them listed on Home Advisor along with a few electricians. He called around for quotes to come out to the house to check an outlet in the outdoor BBQ. He was quoted $74. The other quotes were $125-150. Unfortunately, my husband neglected to tell me what Josephine at Dollen's quoted him. Jason called to verify his 11am appt that morning, but showed up almost 30 minutes late, no phone call and no apology. He parked his extra large repair truck in the driveway. Repair/service people shouldn't assume it's ok to park in a private driveway especially because they often leak oil. More importantly, what if I needed to leave in a hurry? I literally felt blocked in and trapped. I've only had one other person do this, it's rude and inconsiderate. I asked if his truck leaked oil and he said not as far as he knew. He offered to move it, but I gave in and said as long as it's not leaking oil it was ok. Jason followed me to the backyard and he tested the outlet and found the outlet was ok but the power wasn't reaching it. Then he said something like, we need to get you a contract. I thought that was strange because no one had ever said I needed to sign a contract to trouble shoot. After fiddling around at the control panel and walking back and forth to the nearby outlet for several minutes, I suggested that maybe there was a loose connection somewhere. Bingo! He found some loose wires under a screw cap and the mystery was solved. This took about 15-20 minutes in total. He mentioned the contract at least 2 more times while troubleshooting the outlet, but a contract was never presented. While we were trouble shooting the outlet outside, I asked how much this would cost and he said $275. I was floored and said something like OMG! Is this the going rate? He said yes and said that if I subscribed to Angie's list I would get a 10% discount. I said no, and he said he would give it to me anyway. Gee thanks. Then I remembered we found them on Home Advisor and told him, just to make the 10% discount feel legit I guess. I assumed my husband knew how much this guy was charging so I didn't say anything more about the pricing. He gave me some sort of convoluted explanation about the fee that made no sense. I had to turn away so he wouldn't see my eyes roll back in my head. When we finished that project, I asked if he could hang a bathroom ceiling fixture, the wires were already installed, we just needed to reattach the fixture to the ceiling. I believe before he started, he went to the truck to retrieve the contract. He returned with a clip board box but didn't ask me to sign anything. Hanging the fixture took about another 20 minutes. I supplied a ladder for part of the install and then he went to get another one. I also handed him tools while he was on the ladder. I don't mind helping out, I always learn something and he didn't seem to mind. When he was all done he told me it would be $246. I wrote a check and then he gave me a bunch of papers to sign. I must have signed and initialed in 5-6 places. I asked him what I was signing but didn't really get a satisfactory answer and let it slide. This is what they depend on happening and what they want to happen! Shame on me for not reading what probably would have taken 15-20 minutes to read. Jason left the house and didn't leave me a copy. I immediately called his number but it went to his office where Josephine picked up. She said she would have him bring it back later. He didn't. When my husband arrived home, I asked why he would agree to $275 an hour. He was shocked and quite angry. He spoke to both of them the next day and Jason kept saying "your wife signed the contract." In exasperation he just hung up not wanting to argue with such an unscrupulous individual and felt partially responsible for not telling me that he was quoted $74 . This is just a bunch of BS and a BLATANT SCAM! SHAME ON YOU DOLLENS ELECTRIC to lure customers in with a $74 quote and then have them sign a contract and charge them almost more than 3 times as much! $74 vs $275, are you kidding me?????? I hired Dollens Electric for light installation and various other electrical services. They were the most expensive of three bids just over $3000 but I hired them thinking the service would be superior. It was not. Although the installation guys were very nice, after they finished the first day I had a laundry list of items that needed correction, redone, or items they forgot to do. For instance leaving my home unlocked when they left even though I wasn't home, not turning all the power back on, electric outlets were installed loose, light switches with mismatched switch plates, tearing my dryer vent off and not repairing it... I could go on. Then there was miscommunication by Jason about the price of some fixtures as I was verbally quoted a price and then later told that the price was higher because of tax and shipping which I was not told when I agreed to the fixtures. The conversation with Jason about this issue was unpleasant enough for me not to recommend this company to anyone. In dealing with many contractors over the years these issued could probably be considered fairly minor, but all in all I wasn't left with a comfortable feeling about the work they did. The only thing I can say they were really on top of was getting their payment. The lady in their office made a point to drive over to my house within 15 minutes of a phone call to collect payment even though I was still waiting on fixtures to come in and repairs. It's unfortunate that their attention to detail, accuracy, and customer service are not handled as efficiently. Maybe they were having a bad day, who knows. They weren't the worst but certainly not the best. So, my rating is 2 stars, I've experienced better. Update 2/18/09: I received an email from the business owner today: BJ, I came across your comments about the electrical work we did for you. You did not mention that our guys returned specifically to assist you with items of concern. Was everything fixed to your satisfaction? We value ALL our customers....even the picky ones. If there were negative stars I would opt for that. They installed an electrical outlet for our electric car. Overpriced to say the least and had a ton of hidden charges. Told us we could stand inspection when city came out, but failed to provide necessary paperwork for inspection. Inspector came out second time and started asking us technical questions and said dollens needed to be there. Dollens is now here for 3rd inspection appt and charging 225 minimum and 98 for each additional hour. We were extorted several hundreds of dollars for a horrible and deceiving experience. I told them I will not be deceptive and declined the offer. I put in a system and it failed inspection. Steve wanted to get paid before he passed. Wonder why? They left my house open lights on and stole tools and documents from my home. The price is too high and quality too low. We needed to have our main electrical panel replaced in mid 2018, and after researching several options, we tapped Dollens for the work. Jason came out promptly to inspect the required work and, provided a thorough and very competitive estimate. The work was scheduled quickly based on our availability, and we were back up and running the same day. Jason and his team arrived right on time, were very professional and courteous. They communicated with us throughout the job and their work was excellent! In June, 2019 we wanted to add Ring Security Cameras with Lighting and Doorbell to our home. Since several of the desired locations to place the cameras around our home were not already wired for outside electrical, we reached out to Dollens again. Once again, Jason and Josh came out promptly for a thorough review of the project, they made a few recommendations for some additional work I was considering and they provided an estimate the same day. Josephine followed up to schedule the work for ~1 week out, which was perfect. The job required 2 days to complete, mainly because of some odd existing wiring in my garage installed by the previous owner. Jason did a great job installing the Ring cameras and lighting, as well as sorting out the incorrect wiring. Jason and Josh finished the job on the next visit, and bother did wonderful work. We are now 100% protected by the Ring Security, and also have great lighting inside our garage! I just had my 240 outlet installed for my electric car and wanted to pass along the a great review. Jason and team did a great job and I'm very satisfied. They ran a 50 amp line from my panel, under my house to the outside of my garage and installed an RV rain proof box. The run was about 130 feet. They did a great job and no conduit on the outside of the house. They also give 10% internet discounts and 5% Facebook like discounts. The cost was a little over $1000. The install was clean and easy. Other quotes I got where between $1500 to $1800. I'm planning on using them for other work in the future. read more

Last year water made it into my outside electrical panel through a leaky weather head. After getting quotes from one company with a quote that seemed absurd, I called Jason and got a reasonable quote at half the price! We discussed what was going on, and in the end, he came and found a solution that was much lower cost and addressed all the safety concerns present. I was very happy and had them come back and run an EV charge line to my garage and a new grounded run to my office (since we have an old house without grounding on many outlets). The finally Woohoo came tonight. You see - he put in a NEMA 14-50 plug after recommending a good EV charger. In a cruel twist a family member sent me a new charger that uses NMEA 6-50 (D'OH!). I'd been busy, but finally emailed for a course of action. Same evening I got a response with what needs to be done. I feel that Dollen's Electric management is fair with pricing, clearly knowledgeable regarding codes and best practices, and perhaps best in my mind, forthright. A few years ago, Dollens did a bit of work on our house, and it went very well, and I felt the person who came was very knowledgeable and willing to explain as well as work with our requests. In late 2018, though, we scheduled an estimate which started with a no-show. The second attempt was on the wrong day, and the third attempt finally worked out. We bought three ceiling fans to replace existing, older fans. The big, home improvement store we bought the fans from couldn't do the installation because one fan required more complex installation. We had good experiences when Dollens Electric installed a 220 volt car charger and an electric cook top for us so I didn't hesitate to use them again. They are consistently professional and friendly. In addition to installing the ceiling fans, they made us aware that the dimmer switch controlling the fan in the kitchen was not recommended as it could lead to burnout of the fan; they quickly replaced it with a regular switch (I will admit I put in the dimmer switch myself because I thought it would be nice to have one). In addition, when we discussed not liking the remote control feature of the ceiling fans and asked if they could remove the remote control receiver from our fourth ceiling fan (one they were not replacing), they promptly removed it; one less nuisance to worry about. This was our third very positive experience with Jason and Dollens Electric. I highly recommend them. read more

DEC rewired my garage and several outside switches and fixtures. DEC fixed a cobbled up mess that did not meet code. I have complete confidence in their knowledge and ability, and in the work they did. Not only did someone answer the phone, she set up an appointment for the next day. Bryan arrived and gave me a quote for the smaller job and said he could do it that day. He completed the job and I am very happy with the result. Bryan was very polite, cleaned up after himself and made sure he closed the door every time he went in and out so my cats wouldn't get out. SCAM ALERT! This company lures you in with a deceptive $74 service inspection fee. I had a simple handyman job to re-wire a new wall switch for a recently installed ceiling fan. Service technician wasted about 45 minutes with ridiculous bs about how the brand new romex wiring in a newly installed junction box, should have an additional grommet to protect the already heavily insulated romex wire?? Also, he mentions that the fixture needs 'arc fault protection', suggesting I need to re-wire my entire house to current building codes. All a dishonest disrespectful fraudulent smoke screen to justify charging as much as possible. I just needed to replace my wall switch for an existing ceiling fan. This guy quotes $450 minimum, called the 'boss', and confirmed that they won't work for less. Turns out the job was as simple as I had explained and requested...I could have done it myself.
