The ice cream is easily some of the best in the area! No matter what we get it's delicious. We often order online for the convenience of picking it up. Oddly, what you order online may not be what you get necessarily. Last time, my husband and I both got the twist soft serve shake, it's described as vanilla soft serve ice cream with Hersey's chocolate syrup blended with milk. What we got was a vanilla shake with hot fudge mixed throughout (does not appear to have been blended in.) While it was still delicious, it wasn't necessarily what we thought we'd be getting. The hot fudge chunks were a little overpowering. More recently we went and ordered a peanut butter cup shake (described as dels dark chocolate peanut butter ice cream) and a cookies and cream shake. The order said it would be ready in 20 minutes (which would have been exactly when we arrived). When we got there, neither shake had been prepared yet but there was only one other customer in the store. Maybe they just didn't see the order, whatever, no big deal. The server quickly made the cookies and cream shake. She had to get assistance from the other girl working there, who clearly didn't know as well what she was doing, to make the other shake. She asked what kind of ice cream we wanted for the shake to which I just said the dark chocolate peanut butter one it said it came with. She seemed a little confused but proceeded to make the shake. She scooped the peanut butter ice cream for what felt like at least 5 minutes. She then seemed unsure of what other ingredients should go into the shake. She added peanut butter syrup to the peanut butter ice cream and blended it. There did not appear to be any chocolate at all in the shake once I received it about 10 minutes after my husband was given his. While it was still delicious, it was incredibly peanut butter heavy. Again, like the hot fudge, it was a lot of chunks of just that. We were pretty disappointed in our experience the last two times but the ice cream is still delicious so we'll be back. Maybe just keep it simple and order a cone when we get there. It seems like the online ordering menu and process needs to be revamped a little so what you order matches with what you get. read more

These are the things you'll get at Del's, and it's all of the highest quality to boot. We came by to get our kids some ice cream, and we were sucked in by the rest of the menu. There's a hot dog (the Farm Dog) that comes with cole slaw, bacon, roasted jalapenos and smokey mayo. In what world am I not supposed to order that (probably this world, where I'd just eaten lunch)? It was amazing. I should've gotten two, or at least added the El Camino burger which is the same stuff on a burger, with caramelized onions and avocado (next time). But we came for ice cream. My kids usually just want vanilla or chocolate ice cream with rainbow sprinkles, and they got that and we're happy. One got soft serve, and the older one who is learning about the world got Double Dutch chocolate and cookies and cream with her rainbow sprinkles (strong move). Personally, I wasn't even going to order ice cream originally, but the flavors sounded incredible. Lavender honey blueberry? Lemon poppyseed? Maple snickerdoodle? Colombian coffee? Cookies and cream (I realize this is a standard but it's the best standard)? Peanut butter cup? The wildest part is that they offer a tasting flight with your choice of SIX flavors for only $8. I can't express to you what an incredible deal this is. I actually feel bad about it. They are making all of this incredible ice cream at their farm in Red Hook nearby, and giving me six scoops of the best ice cream you can imagine for EIGHT DOLLARS?! I think that's around the price of a banana in Brooklyn (what could one banana cost, $10?), and this is some of the best ice cream I've ever had. We took a pint of the lemon poppyseed to go too, if that tells you anything. To the Del's people: 1. Thank you. Your place is awesome. 2. If you have to raise the price of the flight, I get it. I have enjoyed Del's for a long time, through a few different incarnations. The last few years, the food has been consistently good and the place fills the need for a food stand where you can eat outside, though the prices aren't small. However, I went back for the first time this year with family and had a truly terrible experience. Maybe they are under new management? Maybe they had a really bad day? Either way, I'm sorry to lose one of my go-to places in the area. After ordering a few burgers and sides, we waited at least 45 minutes for our order to arrive (minus one burger). This was after being told a half hour in that the order would be out in a few minutes. Other customers were sitting around waiting with perplexed looks on their faces. The burgers were failing versions of the menu items we are used to seeing at Del's. Overcooked, dry, cold. I always get the El Camino and it is always good. This one had none of the magic. The toppings were skimpy and they were really needed to overcome the low quality of the cook on the ground beef. The fries and onion rings were also cold and the order sizes seem to have suffered from shrink-flation. No positives at all. Everyone can have a bad day, but it would have been helpful to have some sort of explanation for the delay, if not the atrocious food quality. Ultimately, that's probably the thing that will keep me from going back. And for an equivalent amount of time and half the price, I can get better results in my own backyard. read more

Have been a big fan since the new ownership took over. Usually order one of the burgers (that are still great) or their grilled chicken sandwich. Ordered the later yesterday and was surprised to find that where an actual piece of chicken used to be was one of those flat pieces of pounded and breaded, frozen, tasteless, cutlet in its place swimming in hot honey sauce. There were so many good things. I wanted to try more. I settled on the rodeo smash burger. Yummy sweet bbq sauce and a pretty good patty. I've definitely had better but also had worse. It was a satisfying burger. Fries were tasty. A little bit salty but very good. We got the onion rings too. There was an uneven clunkiness in the batter that I just couldn't get past. The ice cream really is the star. We got a boozy pumpkin shake. It was decadent and divine. We also got to try some soft serve. I am of the school of thought that vanilla is not a flavor but this proves me wrong. I'll bet this place is hopping in the summer but easy In November. Fantastic service too. For starters, I have to say that the service here was excellent. Everyone I encountered was very kind and friendly. My husband and I each ordered one of their specialty hot dogs, my husband had a root beer float, and I had a scoop of strawberry ice cream after my dog. The hot dogs were very tasty but for the price I would have expected a larger frank, however my biggest disappointment was with my ice cream. The strawberry flavor, ostensibly " strawberry with strawberry jam" was sadly lacking in any strawberry flavor and I was glad I had only opted to get one scoop of the sad, pale decoy of berry bliss. read more

First, the young man who prepared my cone put his fingers in it getting it out of the sprinkles and proceeded to think that was okay and gave it to me. He did not have a glove on that hand. Nope!!!! Ice cream runs are a big part of my role as uncle. The kids all pile into my Volvo and we venture off in pursuit of a good time. I'm a vanilla soft serve connoisseur. My first ever job was working at Dairy Queen during summer vacations. To this day, I could still put a perfect curl on top of the cone in my sleep. Anyway, we used to stop at Del's frequently because it was right off a main drag on the way to my brother's place. Not sure if they've recently changed ownership or something along those lines, but the kids and myself all agree that the quality has gone down. The soft serve now is more icy than it is creamy. That's not a good thing. The kids said their friends all started going to Holy Cow, a place just a few minutes north on the same road that they say is much better. After testing out their soft serve dipped in chocolate several times, I have to say that I agree- Holy Cow is far superior to Del's. The staff is friendlier as well. It's a bit out of our way, but Holy Cow has become our summertime go-to now. read more

One of my favorite local spots. They have a farm and that's how they make the ice cream! So fresh and so good! They use local ingredients like the beef for the burgers. They have a really cute set up in the back with picnic tables and hanging lights. My husband and I cant wait to try the burgers! Though the fries were very good, the $5-excuse-for-a-hot-dog may be the worst I've ever had...as mushy and tasteless as wet cardboard. My wife ordered two and tossed the 2nd. What a disappointment for the both of us. We didn't try the soft ice-cream but by the looks of many people on line, it must be an addicting narcotic (like Holy Cow in Red Hook) but more expensive. Although id like to say "thank you for joining a delivery service" (DoorDash) may i mention that tonights order didn't please me. I had a standard cheeseburger tonight along with a mint brownie shake but whatever i picked up to eat was either underdone or not enough. I like my burgers at least Medium Rare but the burger i had was at the borderline of rare where maybe another 5 minutes on the grill could've helped to get it the right doneness. As for the shake, i had trouble with that too. Its consistency was right from the middle to bottom of the larger cup for a one size fits all price tag but it was missing some brownie pieces from the middle to top as the brownie pieces fell as it was mixed. The milkiness of the dessert was right and i could definitely tell the mint in the shake from top to bottom. It wasn't overall too milky nor was it too watery. Seems this place changed when their roadside stand "Del's Ice Cream" changed to become the current rendition and lost most of the stand-traits of this more famous stand i used to go to occasionally. Can i also mention something else? My brother also had an order that he allowed me to taste where he got their french fries. His fries were like a saltbox where they were just too salty. Note to others to tell them to ease up if you have a medical condition where salt is an issue; one person in my house couldn't eat any because shes supposed to be salt free and my brother and i ate them.
