Review is for the bakery. This little place seems to be quite popular, so much so that they don't give you drinks to go. Do drinks really cost you that much per refill? That you can refill in-house but not give out to-go cups? Minus one star for cheapness. I filtered through the amazing-looking baked goods and selected a few. The chocolate bomb is more of a chocolate hill - it's full of mousse but nothing daringly dark or decadent, just a good solid chocolate... hill. Really. It's 4 stars but not 5. I threw in a pretzel stick because it was breakfast time so I had to be healthy. 4 stars also - I like that it wasn't particularly salty, but a 5 star pretzel stick needs to be crunchy outside and soft inside, and this was more of an elongated pretzel roll. Very good, but not "wow". And then the beehive cake... very cakey. The frosted filling was nice, but the honey-coated nuts on top were a little too thinly spread to add enough flavor and texture to offset the cakeyness. Overall it was 3.5 stars... I guess? I ate most of it, so it was definitely good. The waitstaff are nice, but the space is just awkward. There are a lot of rooms and corners and hidden alcoves so that it doesn't feel like a restaurant, more of a neighborhood store that grew and swallowed up adjacent buildings over time but never paused to think about it. And everyone has to go up and pay at the counter. Sorta like a diner, except diners usually have the courtesy to give you to-go cups. Actually, diners also have all their baked goods on display, so this is mostly like a diner. I checked the menu and it's expansive and diner-like. Verdict: Grudging. I want to dock more points for the weirdness of the place and its policies, but I guess I could also say that it gives it character. Nothing was 5 stars here, but nothing was really 3 stars either. I love the turnovers, donuts and so much more! my only complaint is that they put many treats in plastic bags. the problem with that is if it has icing on it, the icing sticks to the bag :( maybe they can come up with a better idea. We were in town for the weekend and saw this place when passing by so decided to go for breakfast the next morning! It was so good we came again the day after. Not usually our style as we like to try different places when traveling but the food was so good we had to come back. We had the same waitress on both days, she was super friendly and attentive, topping up waters and coffees even though it was super busy. I am so incredibly disappointed to have to write this review. We got our wedding cake from this bakery and when we went in for the tasting, everything was absolutely amazing (which is why we went with them). The service was great, the samples were great, and the problem became narrowing down the things we liked into a single cake, rather than finding things that appealed to us. Unfortunately, the cake order was wrong; they put incorrect fillings in two of three layers. I know it sucks that they only get one shot at perfection, but that's the nature of the wedding cake business, and they blew it. Further, the roses--the only detail we wanted, mind you--were supposed to be burgundy, which apparently to someone's mind meant "really dark brown"--which I wouldn't mind, except that the concentration of dye that was used left them downright bitter-tasting. Plus, seriously, explain this to me: If a third party (in this case, the bride's mother) is handling the cake, has done all the communication with the restaurant throughout the process, has put down her deposit and already scheduled an appointment to come in on the afternoon of the Monday before the wedding to approve the final plans and pay the bill, what on earth would possess someone to call the bride at 8am that Monday and leave a voicemail saying only, "A payment in the amount of [considerable] is still due. Please call" instead of doing literally ANYTHING else? read more

Dining areas extend pretty much everywhere. Food is solid, diner type breakfast and (I believe) lunch. Reasonable prices. The pancakes are the size of dinner plates, I should've ordered one!! So then we decided we HAD to get some pastries, since we were there! I feel like those prices were reasonable too- a 5 pack of their cider donuts (so delicious!) and a loaf of pumpernickel bread for a little over $5! I really liked what a tight ship they run - lots of waitresses, no empty coffee cups or water glasses. Lots of ladies behind the counter to wrap up your breads and goodies. Did I mention that they were collecting money to donate to a LOCAL hospital for breast cancer research and care? And we're having an employee costume contest? I purchased $30 of baked goods this morning. The bag I was given, filled with 5 bagels and 2 rolls tore going to my car and fell to the ground. Went back in and asked for a replacement for 3 of the items that fell out onto the parking lot. I was told they couldn't do that. I offered to pay difference of what was lost to other similar items. Was told they couldn't do that either. The only solution, I was to repurchase what I lost and pay full price. Oh, service, why does thee suck to such epic proportions? We were seated by an older woman who really didn't want us to have a booth, even though it wasn't busy, but doggone it, I fought for it ... and my ass was in an uncomfortable wood booth with my partner for a late lunch. (restaurant barely had customers) Then our waitress took about 10 minutes to show up, apologized, took our drink order, and disappeared again. This was the entire meals. Veggie fajitas were okay. Veggie panina was so so. I was most excited to go to the bakery. That's when I met Maria. Here's a tip: If you have about 50 cookies in the case, have a little sign (I don't even care if you hand write it) on each one because I have no idea what you're selling and I really wanted to buy it. When we asked Maria if there was a list, otherwise we'd be asking her one by one, she said, "I have a list, just ask." So, we proceeded to do what we were avoiding. Us: "What's this?" Maria: "A cookie." (um, yeah, we kind of figured that out, but plowed ahead) Us: "No, what type?" (since so many were covered in chocolate, but different) Maria: "Chocolate." Us: "Can you give us the name of the cookies?" Maria: (now looking at list) "No, not really." This went on for quite some time until Maria said she could give samples of each one we wanted. I said, "No, thank you. We picked out six, went to the part of the bakery that was labeled, bought a lava cake, cinnamon bread (I think because Maria just said it was cinnamon and I still haven't tried it), then we paid our bill and left. I've tried the baked goods and one cookie (I couldn't possibly give you a name besides what I would refer to as white and milk chocolate madeline) was pretty good. The rest was okay. We won't be back because of the service and there's a lot of other things to see in our travels, but get those cookies labeled, give Maria a break. (One last note. Apparently, you have a raspberry cookie and when we asked Maria if the inside were dry or chewy or jellied, Maria said, "Cherry." Maria, you kind of made our day and honestly, get the list you had on the front of the case. Truly a gem! I am having my wedding upstate New York, and because I don't know the area, and the venue I'm being married in is pretty remote, I was worried about finding my cake. But Deising's was perfect. First of all, everyone there is super friendly and helpful, and Peter, one of the main bakers, made the cake tasting / purchasing SO easy. Secondly, they are very reasonably priced. When planning a wedding, you become used ridiculously hearing high price quotes on everything. Service is extremely slooooow. We ordered basic premade bakery food (bagels, rolls, and a quiche) and it took over 40 minutes to get our meal. We had coffee refilled 3x before the food came out. I also ordered the filled french toast and it was overly saturated with sweet cream cheese making it unedible. I couldn't eat it. The waitress was nowhere to be found during our meal. The tables that arrived after us were served whole meals before us (bacon and omelets). When the waitress finally appeared I mentioned the French Toast was too sweet and I could not eat it. She asked if I wanted it to go. I said no its too sweet and I cannot eat it. She said that's how it's made and maybe I shouldn't order it next time. I ended up asking for the manager. There's always a better selection Uptown and the staff is far superior. The hard rolls, black/white cookies and chocolate croissants are all family favorites. An excellent breakfast on the way back from Vermont. The eggs were cooked perfectly over-medium. The mound (mountain perhaps!) of bacon was done extra crispy just like I asked and the multi-grain toast was perfect. The server was super friendly and when she forgot what kind of toast my husband had asked for, she just brought him a set of white and a set of multi-grain which allowed me to have extra toast.
