I've gone to Deising's Bakery for well over 40 years. What was once, in my opinion, to be a must go, to bring family and friends to, sadly has gone down hill. A few years back, their selections seemed to be reduced, and the service, almost slow to a crawl. I last went on a Sunday last year and remaind somewhat disappointed. Today, 4/27/25, after church, I tried to give it another go. After placing an order for the healthy omelet, and a side of unhealthy bacon, the order placed at the checkout, was told would be brought over to the waiting area insight of the receptionist. Last time i did this, it was packed, so a little slow. Today, giving in to patience, after 25 minutes, I asked the receptionist how much longer? She asked if i ordered it at the bakery. No, I ordered it with you. After coming back from the kitchen, i watched her put plastic utensils in the bag on the counter that was sitting there, and asked how long was it chilling out. No clue. Didn't get upset, left. Open the bag, food cold, no bacon. Toast was ok. At least the bathroom was clean. read more

My son got the construction vehicle themed birthday cake of his dreams here for his 4th birthday. Not only was it incredibly well decorated but it also tasted amazing. We also are frequent fliers here for breakfast with our family and you can't beat the prices, quality and service. It can be tough dining with two young kids in tow but we've never had a bad experience here. Multiple seating options as well, can sit up at the counter, in a smaller dining area near the front, or a larger dining room in the back. There's also their bakery counter you can order baked goods and bagels and coffee to go and a small seating area near there, too. read more

From a food standpoint, Kingston is one of the best small cities in the US. But where this historic town stands out is its bakeries. Ulster County is blessed with some of the best bakeries I have ever visited and among those is Deising's. My dad told me about Deising's when I moved to the Hudson Valley, as he spent a lot of time in Kingston as a teenager. When I finally decided to stop in for the first time in 2018, it lived up to the hype. Deising's has two parts to its retail business: a retail bakery and a cafe serving breakfast and lunch. The cafe might have the best breakfast and sandwiches in Kingston, with freshly-baked bread and other baked goods the star of the show. The bakery specializes in breads and cakes. Everything I have had from either the bakery or cafe has been excellent, with the breads among the best I have ever eaten (I have not bought any cakes...yet...though I have been assured they are excellent). My last visit came yesterday afternoon. I was passing through the area and wanted some fresh bread and baked goods. While there wasn't much bread left in the late afternoon, I did obtain the best loaf of rye bread I have ever eaten, while the apple crisp they were selling satisfied the craving I had and then some. I know I'll be back yet another time in the future, and as always, I'll need to set a spending limit before I walk in, else I'll walk out with far, far more tasty baked goods than I can afford. read more

We traveled from Kingston, PA to Kingston, NY to get some John Oliver "cake bears" and were pleasantly surprised. They have an abundance of baked goods, and a restaurant. Friendly staff in a cozy atmosphere. We stayed for lunch. The Big Reuben and Southern Comfort chicken sandwiches were scrumptious! Portions were generous; definitely took some home. Deising's is more than a bakery -- anything from the Bakery is great. However, the restaurant side is good but not on a par with the Bakery. As others have mentioned, their Rueben/pastrami sandwich is good but not the "Big Rueben" that is its menu title. Decor hasn't changed in years--it's hard to change a bakery. If you like bread and Baked goods of any kind, then Diesings Is the place for you. It has been around for a very long time and I am happy to report it is just as good as ever. They make all their own bread products. Everything is very fresh. Service and other foods are also excellent. I just had lunch there with a large party of people. Everyone was very happy with their order and the waitress couldn't have been nicer. Go there for lunch or breakfast, and then check out the baked goods To take home. They did a custom Seinfeld theme birthday cake which tasted and looked great! All the communication was via email and the cake was ready for pick up on time. ------ Got our wedding cake from Deising's for 200+ people and were very happy with our decision. Choosing a cake type was an easy and good experience, and it tasted even better! We called and made an appointment for a cake tasting to decide what kind of cake we wanted. During the cake tasting we tasted different types of cakes along with different fillings. Everyone was courteous at the bakery! Few days before the wedding, the baker called to confirm that we still wanted the same thing. We had email pictures of a cake we and and our decision on the cake type and filling. I came here for Sunday breakfast. This may be one of the best diners in Kingston. I didn't get anything from the bakery section, but what they had on display looks bomb. I got two eggs over easy (which was actually done correctly) with corn beef hash, hash browns (delicious), and it came with a choice of toast. Was very delicious and most importantly filling. Service is wonderful here and there's always someone walking around waiting to give you that coffee refill. I probably had my cup refilled about 4-5 times and probably explains why I was jumping off the deep end. Highly recommended over all of the other diners. I apologize for reviewing so late. They deserve all the 5 stars they can get. I used Deisings for my wedding cake a few years ago since I had my wedding towards Hudson Valley. I was looking for a delicious, simple and affordable cake. I did a taste test, which had plenty of cake pieces and the different flavors and frosting to accompany it. There were options to choose from vs having to select one or two flavors like other places for tastings. My husband couldn't make it either so they packed some to go to help, which was so nice. We ended up selected a lemon cake with raspberry filling - more to appease my husbands tastes, less mine, but,... I'll tell you, i dont know if it was the high of the wedding and the mix of booze but it was DELICIOUS. I wish we saved more cake from the wedding. It looked beautiful and was exactly the ombré design we spoke about. They seemed to be a very traditional bakery with classic tall cakes, but I showed a more modern design which they were able to pull off. Even if you come in, place an order for the next day and pay for it, you are forced to wait on a line when you come in for your pickup. there is no pickup line, so I wasted an additional 15mins waiting in line for people who still needed to order. I've been here several times for breakfast, whenever I am in Kingston visiting friends/family. This seems to be one of the better diners in the area. I've never really had a truly bad experience here. The portions are pretty big for the price. However, this past visit, the waitress seemed a little slow. I ordered the garden omelette with bacon. Maybe it is because of the veggies, there was not a lot of flavor to it and I had to keep peppering it. The home fries that I had were a little burnt. Only commenting on the bakery, which was ok. Maybe a 2.5. Got the peanut butter bomb which I was hoping would be more rich/dense. Was good but not great, cake was moist tho. Rainbow cookies (marzipan vs jelly layer) tasted flavorful at first but had a strong and weird chemically bitter aftertaste which seemed to come from the marzipan. Coffee not strong enough for someone who prefers dark roasts, on the bland side but not acidic. Saved eating breakfast for this and was disappointed. read more

This place claims to have won an award for their breakfast, but I'm skeptical about that. Don't get me wrong, the breakfast here is fine, but it is just about average, with nothing really jumping out as being outstanding or "award winning". Their bakery section is different, though. They offer an assortment of designed cakes and novelty items, plus different kinds of cookies. They also carry bread, rolls, muffins, and bagels. Been going here for about 35 years. Used to be a great place. The service has changed recently and not for the better. I keep getting wrong orders and when I explain the order is wrong they try to gaslight me. For example they tried to tell me Italian bread is sliced white bread. When everyone in the tri-state area knows it's a baguette. When taking an order over the phone they'll take your order even if they don't have something. Then when you arrive and get a wrong order they'll tell you they never had what you ordered in stock. At this point if I'm desperate enough to get food there I have to expect a problem and an argument. I used to love this place so much I had them make my wedding cake years ago. I'm not sure what the owner was thinking by restaffing, probably cheap labor. You're better off just going to one of the new hipster places in uptown for food. Nothing lasts forever. read more
