My wife and I moved into our brand-new custom home in October of last year (2023) and have loved…read moreour deck, but barely used it due to the bugs. Our builder (Churchill Classics) charged an arm and a leg, and we didn't want to go back to them for another quote, so I scheduled over 15 contractors to come out in 2 days. Of the contractors that came out, Agustin was the first. He was on time, knowledgeable, and gave me plenty of ammunition to go up against the remaining contractors. Although Creative Exteriors Plus was one of the most expensive options we looked at, it was also the only truly professional experience that left a great taste in my mouth going forward. Augustin of Creative Exteriors Plus is fantastic! I always look for contractors with strong integrity, who are honest, and who have no issues answering even the dumbest of questions. Agustin not only gave me peace of mind when meeting us, but he was also very open and honest about everything, from the work, scheduling, payment, and timeframe, to the actual products he used. Before screening in our deck, I wanted to stain/seal the deck and power wash it but didn't want to spend the extra capital getting it professionally done. Agustin also helped walk me through products to look at, steps to properly power wash, and troubleshooting via text the whole way through. At one point, I mentioned that my Google caller ID had picked up another business name, Prime Construction Corp, and I wanted to verify if this was related to him or what the connection was. Agustin called me right away and explained that it was an old business they contracted with bigger vendors, but during COVID, they pivoted and no longer have any affiliation with that business. He was quite surprised it popped up with his number. We had a great laugh about it, and I really appreciated how straightforward he was with this information. I love his transparency and honesty throughout the whole process, and we even contacted him again about possibly screening in/putting a roof over our walkup basement door. He was very candid, advising that having the window on the side and a lack of trees nearby would attribute to more cost and effort than a solid result. After brainstorming, we came up with the idea of buying screens and velcroing them around the rails (haven't put this plan into action yet), but I very much appreciate his candor and encouragement that this is a project I can do myself. The entire project was done in roughly 3 days: two days of work back to back, and then 1 Saturday due to rain. The screen is so beautifully and meticulously done that it doesn't even look like a screen is there. His team also managed to perfectly match our current post layout when constructing a new post and adding a door. The door also comes with a cool feature: it has a window that slides down. They also included 2 new keys for the door, and Agustin did a full walkthrough with us to ensure we were fully happy with the results. Before completing the deck, his team also power washed the bug gunk off the deck and removed some of the remaining tape I had forgotten to remove when I stained the deck. He also offered to come back and install our ceiling fan once we actually pick one out. He's local and always just a short text away if I need anything. I cannot recommend Creative Exteriors Plus enough and absolutely rave about Agustin to everyone I know! But after the work was completed the owner would call/text several times a day looking for payment. So he clearly knew how to call and text just not when I was calling and texting trying to figure out why they were not showing up to finish the job.

In March my wife and I decided it was finally time to get a deck built on our TH after almost 10…read moreyears. I realized it probably wasn't the best time to be building a deck with wood prices sky high, but figured we'd see what we could find. I contacted 5 companies to come out and give me a quote. Out of those 5 only Virginia Deck Builders and 1 other sent me a quote for the deck within 24 hours. And out of both of them only Virginia Deck Builders replied to every email question I sent (even after hours). My wife being a graphic artist was very impressed by the multiple autocad renders of what the deck would look like that were included with the quote. Nikolay answered all our questions a long the way and filled out the HOA approval form for us. From start to to finish everything took about 3 months (permits, HOA approval, inspections etc). We did run into 1 snag where we had to make an adjustment to how the deck was supported which increased the price slightly but Nikolay was willing to split the cost with me. After the deck was finished I had to have Virginia Deck Builders come up and do a few things that probably should have been done without me asking (cleaning up the work site better etc). There is still a couple minor things I still need them to do but they haven't stopped us from enjoying the deck. Also as we know no review can be 100% perfect my only real complaint so far is the Trex Select deck seems to be scratching very easily, obviously not an issue with the building of it, but I sort of wish I had been warned that it scratches easily and maybe I would have maybe gone with the Trex Transcend.

The only time that Nikolay Jantic, the owner, was responsive was when he came to pick up my 50%…read moredeposit check. 2/10/23 - I paid $3,752 (50%) to have 20 rotting boards replaced on my wood deck, power washing, and staining. Despite repeated calls, I received no info on scheduling. 4/18/23 - Finally a 3-man crew showed up and replaced the rotting boards and one upright post, but they left all the old wood in a pile behind the house. 5/15/23 - I was concerned about safety and HOA rules in regard to the pile of wood boards, so I paid 123Junk to haul it away, I also called Jim the Handyman who agreed to come this week and complete the project, because I was only getting the run around from Nikolay about when they would return. If you choose Virginia Deck Builder, expect total lack of communication and long delays in receiving the product you paid for.

I called earlier and scheduled an appointment and they provided a window of when they would come. They arrived and quickly got to work. The process was quick and the cost was about the same as it was 5 years back! Glad it wasn't too expensive otherwise I would've had to call someone else. I will say I was unable to pay with a credit card (said their machines weren't working) so I had to write them a check (no biggie on my end).
