I hired True Deck to repair and stain my deck, and repair my entire yard fence. Very glad I did. Both operations went quite smoothly. The repair team led by Selbin, William, and Fernando did an outstanding job. They highlighted issues they came across in their work and went beyond the call of duty in fixing and patching my 30 year old fence, including replacing both gates. They also replaced deck flooring and railing top and steps. Good job on cleanup as well. Tito and his team did a nice job cleaning and staining the deck, taking care not to damage my plants surrounding the entire deck. Less than a week in total to complete project. Carlos the very knowledgeable salesman gave an honest assessment of what could be done and worked with us to keep costs to a minimum. it's definitely hard to find a company that lives up to their rating. True Decks has been amazing. They installed a brand new perimeter fence, which ended up looking exactly how we specified. They are installing a deck and it's beautiful and they have been very speedy but also very thorough during the construction. The two guys that have been working for us for both of the projects have been incredibly friendly considerate if there's ever even the slightest glitch, they talk to us about it to make sure everything's OK and then they fix it. First time ever I write a review. Typically, if I am dissatisfied with a business, I just let it go. But this is completely unacceptable. I used this company because I needed to paint my deck. I was told that they will power wash my deck and remove the old paint (white). They literally just painted the deck with the new color without removing the old one and a week later the paint started to come off. I called them upset and when they came back, they said that this happened due to my dogs. Yes, I have 2 dogs, but there is NO WAY 2 dogs will do this in less than a month. After they repainted the deck.. 4 days.. yea, 4 days later, it started to come out AGAIN. This is when I realized the they never removed the old paint and they just painted over it and called it a day. Since that day I've been so upset and honestly I would never recommend this company to anyone. I just wasted time and money. And just for evidence, I have pictures attached, which demonstrates the POOR and mediocre job they did. read more

I reached out to TrueDecks (formally DeckMaster) a couple of weeks ago for an estimate on back landing and fence. They said they are so booked up that an appointment will be scheduled in two weeks. Carlos came by and was very nice and said our current back landing isnt up to code and will need to replace it. I explained to him, I am looking to do a Flagstone Patio as well so footings will need to be done prior. He then tries to tell me Flagstone is the worst and I should consider Pavers. I am not sure if he was trying to dissuade me because TrueDecks doesnt work with Flagstone and is just trying to make more money off us to hire them to do a Patio as well. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but he seemed a little to pushy and headstrong on us not doing Flagstone. After he left, he said he will speak to Construction Manager on what is the best form to do back landing with my Patio and Concrete. I received an email saying my estimate is ready, but when I clicked on it the first time, it said $0.00. I called the office and receptionist said not sure why it was sent out prematurely but will let Carlos know. I then received another email about my estimate that's waiting. I clicked on it and the title says Back Landing, however summary of work says fence with a number that's almost double the going rate. I tried calling Carlos to follow up about this and verify the price and scope of work but no answer so I left a message. I then called the Office again to explain the confusion and she said she remembers speaking with me before and is surprised the estimate isn't done. She said she passed my message to Carlos but I told her he never got back to me. If you are looking for a good company and reasonable in price I suggest look elsewhere. I waited almost 2 weeks almost and I still cannot get a completed estimate or a response from sales associate. read more

I highly recommend True Decks (Deck Master) - Fernando Rivera came by, spent a couple hours explaining all the choices and answering all our questions. They were able to do exactly what we wanted (compared to other companies who wouldn't) and they promptly sent my estimate. (Note: They were 1/2 of what another company quoted). Since mine was a 'small' job, they were able to squeeze me in while waiting on permits/materials on other jobs. When they called right after the snowstorm on Sunday and said they could come on Wednesday, I was surprised. Selvin Aguilera and his assistant Luis showed up bright and early Wednesday in 30 degree weather and proceeded to work all day. I was VERY impressed with their meticulous attention to detail. I could tell they are very proud of their work. By Thursday at noon - another day of freezing temps and wild winds - they were finished, and it is beautiful! I highly recommend them for anyone wanting a new porch or deck. read more

Update 9/13/23: I found a few small gaps where the patio (that DeckMaster installed) meets our driveway, so Pavel (DeckMaster Supervisor) sent Emmanuel out right away to insert some polymeric sand in the gapy. Because of the heavy rains we've had lately, some of the sand had washed away, but Emmanuel quickly fixed the problem, and didn't even ask for payment. I used Deckmasters in 2020, his team were mildly efficient with their time management, it took longer than it should have however it was installed and it looked good. This year I had weeds growing through in 3 places, clearly the weed matt was not installed properly. When I complained he said sometimes weeds grow through and to use some weed killer on it and did not respond to my further emails I sent him. In reading the other reviews, if the job goes well, he gets a high rating but if there are issues the owner does not want to deal with them and does not respond. I would not recommend this company. Everything was handled wonderfully, with great communication by everyone during the entire job. David was very thorough with his estimates and any questions we had during the process, and Nestor did a phenomenal job with his crew getting all the work done with quality and care. Pros: Fair price, good work, honest business. Cons: Communications. I dinged a star ... I had to call them a couple of times to get info on when they'd return to finish the two day process for refurbishing my deck. First day is power washing...a few days to dry out...then a return to replace any boards, sand and stain. We got some rain so it threw their schedules out of whack, understandably, but I had to chase down the info on project completion date. Would I recommend? Yes, and did so immediately with a neighbor who did have them do her deck and she was also very happy with the results. read more

Our deck project was made easy with Deck Master. The initial appointment with Miguel, the project manager, went smoothly and everything was explained thoroughly about the process. Our twenty year old deck looks like a new deck. Each part installed was not according to spec and had to be ripped out, sometimes twice. They used construction adhesive under the decking boards, resulting in very loud squeaks and crunching noises that can be heard through the valley each time you walk across any part of this deck. read more

Very rude customer service. I would not recommend. I tried to schedule an appointment to discuss building a deck at our house. The operator asked me how much I was looking to spend and what material I wanted to use. When I answered that we had wood in mind, but would need to meet with their specialist before giving her a $ amount of what we wanted to spend, she answered that they are giving priority to people who are actually willing to start the works, and gave me a date two months out. Once I said that we were ready to start, but needed to learn more about the process, she answered that without an amount in mind, a deck cannot be built. The DeckMaster team is detail-oriented and responsive to customer needs. I would consider myself a "tough" and "needy" customer. I had a lot of questions before committing, all of which were thoroughly answered. I was on site while the work was being done looking over their shoulders and made a detailed inspection upon completion of the job. I had one issue after they left and it was corrected the following day. I highly recommend their services. They will do what you ask, which many of their competitors refused to do. read more

Had DeckMaster demolish a deteriorating deck and build a new one. Jose and Oscar return all calls quickly, were very professional and provided invaluable experience with designing our deck. I wanted to replace our old deck with essentially the same design but constructed out of trex material. After some discussion, they made several insightful suggestions that changed the overall design to an absolute work of art. The newly designed deck is one level, giving a cleaner look, The project was finished at a cost lower than I was expecting, looks much nicer than I expected and was completed on schedule. read more

Deckmaster rebuilt our 25-year-old deck in 2014. Their attention to detail is second to none. Their carpenters are artisans, mitering every corner to a precision of 1/8". We had this deck resealed this spring, and it looks as good as new. My only suggestion is to make an appointment well in advance of when you want the work done. They're extremely busy, and there's obviously a good reason for that. read more

Reasonable estimate and very professional/knowledgeable salesman. Restoration carpentry work required a call back for some areas of poor workmanship and a lack of attention to detail. Stain was not applied properly and also required a call back for re-staining. I would have liked to give a 3 1/2 star rating but 4 is really too much. The consultant that came out gave us a very reasonable estimate with different options. Our deck was old, not in great shape from previous owners, but we wanted to try to save what we could and only replace what was necessary. He was one of only two people willing to look at this option, out of 6 estimates from different companies! They were very busy so two days later our 'booking time' was postponed another week. Then there was rain, etc, which made scheduling tough. Fortunately the scheduling people were good about updating us as to when what would happen. The team that came out was a two man team - Jose and his assistant. Granted the deck wasn't in great shape, but they managed to make a huge mess, scrape paint off the side of our house and completely soak themselves. Then they had to wait a few days to let it dry out ( the cleaner was Amazing!) and the same team came to do the repair work before staining. These are not carpenters - replacing a few boards, cutting the right size, screwing in safety screws safely and straight, hammering in old nails, properly sanding all horizontal surfaces - these repairs were all too much for this team. Very shoddy carpentry work. The stain is a spray on, two coat process. Here too...I didn't feel it was very evenly done, but it looks better than it was originally. There was no further check or follow up planned. At this point, I would give it a 2 star rating. I called the original consultant to suggest he come see the actual work done. He came within a day and promised to get a team back to fix these mistakes and finish the job. They came within a week and did repair all the glaring, dangerous problems. For the money we paid and the condition of the original deck, we feel like it was good enough. It would have gone better had I been available to watch them work and be present at the end of each day to point out the details. We felt like the original consultant, his bid and follow up afterwards along with the courteous scheduler were what brought it up to a 3 1/2 when it was all said and done. Everyone was perfectly pleasant but in the end, it was disappointing that the guys doing the actual work were sloppy and poor carpenters. read more

I was cautious in using this company because of the mixed reviews. However, I decided to use them after the project manager came out. He seemed nice and professional. Now that the job is done I wish I had chosen another company! Customer service with this company leaves a lot to be desired. The crew damaged my retaining wall in the process and did not disclose that to me. After I got home my husband and I found the damage. My husband came home briefly during the time of the repair and recalls them using a portion of the wall in their job. After inspection, it was a portion of the wall that was not adjacent to where they were working. So I was confused as to how they got it off and why would they would use it to begin with. When I called Deckmaster and told them that I was not signing the invoice or sending final payment until this was fixed they asked me to send pictures. The contractor denied knowing anything about it until I sent the picture that my husband took of them using the paver. He came out to fix it twice and did a poor job! I called the company again upset and frustrated at this time. The project manager that I met initially and thought was nice and professional was then rude and condescending. At that point, I was done with this company. I told him about their lack of integrity and unprofessionalism. He then revealed that the contractor dropped something on my retaining wall and that is what caused the damage. This was news to me especially since the contractor denied knowing how it got damaged and denied using the paver in their job. I asked for a different contractor to come out but was told that the contractor I had was "the best". I said I don't care because he came back twice and it is still not fixed. He then had me speak with their office manager and that was a waste of time. She barely apologized and just said the same guy will be there again to fix it. It is now fixed and I have already mailed my final payment. However, today I get a very rude voicemail from the project manager demanding their final payment. No one called to check if the work was done to my liking. They didn't even call to see how things went. I cancelled the other service that the project manager recommended. After this fiasco, I want nothing more to do with this company. The customer service specialist informed me that I may be charged a fee for canceling the job. I knew that too was a lie because I was told by the project manager that I could cancel any of these services that I got an estimate for prior to the start date. Her reply, "oh ok". This company lacks integrity. I should have gone with another small contractor since their price was comparable. But I chose Deckmaster thinking that they were a reputable company. I DO NOT recommend this company. read more

I used Deck Master two years ago, and they did an awesome job. I organized a group in my townhome condo, and everyone loved their work. We basically had boards replaced, then deck was washed and stained. Two years later looks as good as it did when it was done. A neighbor just used them last month after admiring my deck. Deck Masters did a great job of restoring my deck to it's original light stain. I was impressed that they did not use heavy pressure to remove the old dark stain and algae. They were professional in every way. It has been more than a couple months now and plenty of rain has given me confidence that it will hold up. I would have happily given 5 stars IF I did not have to call them back to complete 2nd and final step of staining. Perhaps it is a shortage of qualified employees, and I can appreciate that, but it needs to be addressed. But they are really good! read more

Only 4 stars because I haven't seen the work yet, but I'm optimistic. Jose answered all our questions, calculated an estimate for a fence and deck on the spot, and--as it turned out after getting other estimates--gave one of the best prices with the best grade of materials (for example, using screws instead of nails on the fence). The office staff were also willing to try to work us into the schedule sooner. Communication wasn't totally seamless (yet to find a contractor whose is) but it was pretty good. read more

The owner of this business was tremendously rude and absurd. I was requested a form of payment before I even got the job done and could evaluate the service. It took 3 weeks to schedule an appointment and authorize the contract. I was told that I could pay after the 1st of day service.well, the day before the service, the owner called me to ask for a credit card number or a check to be mailed to his business otherwise he would have to cancel the service totally. As I was trying to remind him our deal of payment, he just hung up the phone on me. So if you are in need of doing your Deck or Patio I strongly advise you to use someone else. We hired DeckMaster to paint our family's deck. The color they used was about 2-3 shades lighter than the swatch. When we called the company to request they adjust the color, they refused to fix it and were rude on the phone. They did agree to come out to fix some bald spots. However, they accidentally flooded our basement after washing paintbrushes in our backyard (and leaving the hose on), we found out this company did not have insurance. I don't recommend this headache. read more

Once an estimate was received it was rather difficult to get direct answers or decent communication with the sales rep or anyone associated. I could write a lengthy review with all the details but instead I will comment that this company lacks professionalism, does not follow up on its work, appears disorganized, and the workmanship was of fair quality (a lot of staining on our white baseboards). My issue is not so much with the work but the 'office'. We had to make multiple requests by e-mail and phone to get information. For example, we were told we would be notified 24 hours before they came for the staining. Over a week passed between when the deck was cleaned and when we began calling to see when we were scheduled to have the job completed. Vague answers were provided and then all of a sudden we came home to find the job was done and 2 messages on the answering machine from THAT morning telling us that the crew was headed to the house. Once the job was complete there was no follow-up except for the immediate charge on our credit card. I am not impressed by this company and do not recommend them unless you have a lot of time on your hands to keep tabs on them. read more
