Some communication issues and delays, but responsive ownership and solid final product…read more I hired Sam the Concrete Man for a patio project after comparing several estimates. Their quote was about $700 less than others, which was a good deal compared to other estimates. While there were some frustrating aspects--mainly around communication and scheduling--the owners reached out directly after I shared my concerns and made a genuine effort to resolve the issues. That follow-up and willingness to take accountability really made a difference. During the project there were unexpected delays, and communication was spotty at times. It often took multiple follow-ups to get updates, and the work progressed in short bursts, sometimes without notice. What was originally estimated as a 2.5-day project ended up taking around 2-3 weeks. Despite these issues, the overall workmanship turned out to be solid. and the finished patio and steps looks good and are functional. Ultimately, while the process was more stressful than anticipated, I appreciated the owner's responsiveness and effort to make things right. The end result was good for the price, but there's room for improvement in communication.

We had limited our initial search to companies that had received four our more Yelp stars, but a…read morerelative of Scott and Brandy suggested that we give them a call. Scott came by the next day to take a look and give us a quote. They were one of the only two companies who didn't think we needed to remove and replace the gravel base, which shaved a couple of grand off the estimate. They were also locally based, which was an advantage, as I didn't envision the other bidders wiling to drive all the way from Virginia or Frederick County to do any small remedial patchwork if needed. After writing a check for the deposit, it took a couple of weeks for them to perform the work - rain and a stoppage at the asphalt company were understandably beyond their control. Their crew showed up in the morning, removed and carted away the old cracked asphalt, broke up some the dirt berms that had formed alongside the driveway over the years, filled a couple of small depressions, poured several inches of new asphalt, and hand-crowned the edges to ensure rain runoff, all before the kids came home from school. It's been a year since they did the work (I wanted to give the driveway time to properly cure before writing a review), and despite having three cars using the driveway on a daily basis, there's been no slippage of the pavement nor any depressions on the surface, which makes me wonder whether the other contractors were padding their quotes.

Contractor also failed to follow the contract, for instance, the installed ridge vent was not installed according to manufacturer specifications, the vent was not cut. Contractor also is demanding payment of late fees and the contract has no language for late fees.
