At a great sushi restaurant in Ashland, a couple we were chatting with recommended Decant. We were on a road trip, so on our way back through we gave it a try. We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious food and friendly service. We had a Black Cod entrée that was especially good and the Beef Tartar appetizer. Truly wonderful. I grew up in the area and wanted to take my mom somewhere special for her birthday. First off, I expect this was a fluke, but our order was forgotten or lost, so we ate about 60 minutes after we ordered. Once we received our meal, half of the food was great, half was ok. The overall quality of the food was inconsistent and not equal to the cost of the meal. Service was good, but I will not go back. If you are ok spending $200+ on a meal for two people, there are better options in Southern Oregon. read more

Just had a great experience at Decant. I was part of a larger group, and even though it was a busy evening the appetizers, entrees, and desserts were perfectly timed and the service was impeccable. Our server Collin stayed on top of everything and delivered a great meal. His cocktails were excellent, and he has a great knowledge of whiskeys as well. The steak was perfectly cooked and delicious, with a crisp sear on the outside and very tender on the inside. It was large enough that I needed to take some home. My dinner companions loved their duck, salmon, and risotto. Plan on spending about $65-$80 for an appetizer, entrée, and dessert, not counting drinks. However, this is fine dining and it is worth it for a special night out. read more

A great restaurant here In Medford! Finally a fine dining experience which we have never had in Medford. It's been too long. I would like to see a more expansive menu. Maybe a special or two each night. I have spoken to a couple of people who think it's expensive. I tell them to go to dinner in LA, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and this is cheap!! Wake up Medford. You want a great meal so pay for it. I grew up a little more than a mile from this restaurant though in the 50s/60s it was undoubtedly a private residence instead of being in a commercial area. My sister who visits Medford more often encouraged me to check it out since we plan a family reunion this spring and are looking for dining opportunities. Unfortunately our group is too large. They won't serve a table larger than eight. This is a very nice restaurant, certainly better than anything we had in the 1960s. The wine list is impressive with some remarkable wines. Unfortunately my wife was not drinking so I had to limit myself to one glass of Pinot blanc and one glass of rioja They were decent but a wider variety of wines by the glass would be nice. I started with a salad that included a poached egg, bacon, etc. I liked it well enough though the dressing didn't quite match what I have had with similar salads over the years. That is probably my lack of good taste. My wife started with a wild mushroom and cauliflower soup. She thought it was fabulous. I tasted it and wondered if the cauliflower flavor could have been more intense. My wife thought the mushrooms were the best part of the soup. My wife absolutely loved the goat cheese and pear salad she ordered. Instead of an entree, she chose in place of an entree to have the foie gras appetizer as an entree. There were two different kinds and it was good (not great) though small. It seemed a better choice than an entree. I got the steak frites I was already inclined to have it but the loudest person at the loud table next to us was quite enthusiastic about the dish when she got it before I ordered. My dish was too big to finish. There was a generous serving of steak and lots of fries. The desserts didn't appeal to us. We normally order something but couldn't find anything. I found staffing a little confusing. We met four people during the evening. Edward did the most and really impressed my wife with his professionalism and attention to detail. I think one was our sommelier. One was the bus girl and I think one was a headwaiter but we saw her only twice. I think it is easier on the diner if the number of staff interacting is two or maybe three. Something that made us a little unhappy was that in making our reservation a few days before my wife was asked if we would like to sit outside. She declined. When we arrived we were led to a door and told there was a nice table outside. We declined so we're put next to the loud table. It was hard for us to hear each other. This restaurant is of very high quality and priced commensurate with value. Our favorite restaurants on the north Oregon coast couldn't compete. Even Portland doesn't have much like this. The fifth star is missing mostly because the loud table had a real impact on our ability to enjoy a high quality, high priced meal. read more

What an amazing experience! We were on a road trip from Seattle to SF and stopped at Medford for one night. We just randomly yelped and found this restaurant. We were an hour away from the destination and called in to see if we can pick up the food. They actually didn't offer to go. The lady who picked up the phone didn't refuse us right away but checked with their Chef and made an exception for us :) We had butter shrimp, steak frites, butter letter salad and cauliflower soup. They are all really good! I'm a big fan of cauliflower soup! It'll be definitely even better if we sit down and eat. Will definitely make a reservation if we're back again at town. read more

Decant is nothing short of amazing. Last night I had the pleasure of experiencing a meal there with my family and was absolutely blown away. It was the perfect way to celebrate my 50th birthday. The whole experience from beginning to end left me in a state of awe. I wanted to scream out to the world when we stepped outside the restaurant and I woke this morning with it still on my mind. We went To Decant a few weeks to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. What a great addition to the Medford area. I would go back just for the Foie gras! My wife had the wild mushroom risotto that was excellent even the next day. I had the salmon. Good but a little over cooked for my taste. All good though. This was our first time to Decant, I don't know that I would say we are foodies, but I have been cooking my entire life and very much appreciate good food, from the plating and presentation to the service and education on the food and pairings, Decant nailed it! This little family owned traditional Italian restaurant is by far one of the best experience I've had in the 30+ years living in the valley. Will absolutely be back again! Reading a few of the reviews in regards to it being "expensive for Medford" I'd ask if they would think the same thing of a Louis Vuitton store In Medford? Very disappointing! We were seated in the front room. My husband and I couldn't even talk because of the noise level. Too many tables way too close together. We sat at our table for 20 minutes before our waiter even came to the table. We were given water, but no bread because they charge $3 just for the bread. The amuse buche was bland and tasted like it was purchased from Sisco. We asked about a sommelier to recommend a great bottle of wine to go with our dinner. They boost about having 2 on staff/owner, but neither were there. I was surprised and expressed that. I was told they were on vacation in Maui so they couldn't be there. That was not a good start when owners of a brand new very expensive restaurant or any NEW restaurant can't be on hand to make sure everything is going smoothly and correctly. We were told that there was a very knowledgeable waiter there that could advise on the wines, however he never came to our table. We finally order a single glass of pinor noir $15 and gave me heartburn and was not worth drinking. We got the seared Tuna appetizer $22 which came and looked good, but a very, too small portion for the price. Also it was served without chopsticks so we had to eat it with a metal fork which effects the flavor of the fish. The guests next to us tried to order a bottle of wine and was on their 4th request when we left, because the ones they tried to order were unavailable. Not very many local wines either for a place advertising local. We didn't order anything else because at that price we had had enough. read more
