I can't even begin to express how grateful I am to have found Dearing Acting Studio! I've been going to Dearing for the past two years, & I'm still blown away by how much I learn & grow every single day. Yes, you read that right - even after two years, I'm still discovering new techniques, insights, & skills with each class! From the moment I walked in, I was blown away by the kindness & supportiveness of everyone - teachers, students, & staff - is ridiculously kind & supportive. It's like walking into a big ol' hug! Matt & Brian, are total rockstars. They're genuine, talented, & have helped me grow not just as an actor but as a person too (which is just as important). The classes are engaging, challenging, & fun! I've learned so much & seen major improvement in my craft. But what really sets Dearing apart is the community vibe. Everyone is super nice, supportive, & genuinely invested in each other's success. It's like we're all in this together! If you're thinking about acting classes, check out Dearing Acting Studio. Trust me, you won't regret it! read more

I recently moved to Phoenix from California and was a professional movie, TV SAG(Screen Actors Guild) Actor for 10 years in LA. There are alot of acting schools in LA(many sketchy charging thousands for inferior instruction). The Dearing School is superior to most I've seen in Hollywood. The classes cover classic acting skills, improv and comedy for all ages for all types of mediums. I met the Owner, Matt Dearing, and was quite impressed. The atmosphere is friendly but professional so neophytes to experts can learn and polish their acting chops. The location is very convenient and classes are available throughout the week at prices much more reasonable than LA and NYC. Highly recommended and I'm a professional IMDB listed SAG actor. read more

Dearing has been a great place for my daughter. She has done theatre for the last couple of years and wanted to get some professional help. Dearing has been just that. She has already progressed so much in such a short time. She has also done privates and they are worth the money. She recently did the summer camp where they proceeded a ln actual movie in a week. I wasn't sure what to expect but we saw the rough edit and it was amazing. We look forward to seen the final product at Harkins in November. 10/10 we would highly recommend Dearing. read more

We absolutely LOVE this studio . It's a bit of a drive for us but definitely worth it as the instructors really know what they are doing and I have seen all three of my kids confidence soar over the last few months . We have not only enjoyed the classes but the showcases as well where they are able to perform and reflect on what they have learned . We enrolled our oldest as her goal was to become more confident but quickly saw the benefits for the younger ones as well . My 9 yr old son who has been in speech therapy since 4 years old is no longer in need of it ! My 6 year old wishes she could come everyday and my 11 year old enjoys the challenges in the teen class . All three have recently signed with an agency in Los Angeles and have used skills taught in the studio in their auditions . We look forward to continuing with Dearing and adding new skills to their toolbox. read more

I signed up three months ago, not really knowing what to expect. In that time, I went from sitting in the back of the class and being nervous to now sitting up front and wanting to perform in front of the class. The showcase monologue and scene was a lot of fun. I've learned that Matthew Dearing is a very sincere and passionate teacher and coach. read more

Absolutely love this acting studio. I was a student at Dearing for 3+ years. I matured there from being an inexperienced wishy-washy actor hopeful, to a skilled serious craftsman. The other students I met in my time were incredible. I made lasting friendships with them as well as the staff. Matt does his best to encourage his students develop all of their skills and talents- not just acting. I've experienced and witnessed extremely moving scene studies, disappointments and triumphs, and most importantly to me---so many opportunities to truly learn. The environment is very supportive. I saw a huge difference between me at the beginning and me at the end, but I will say this: you have to be willing to put in the work and give full effort if you expect the training to make a difference, and you should try to be welcoming of critiques as a platform to improve your work rather than take them personally (and that's true of any acting studio or school- not just this one). Those are the two keys to really get where you wanna be with training. Anyways would fully recommend this studio for actors in AZ who want to advance their craft. read more

I LOVE Dearing Studio. Matthew (the owner) is such a phenomenal instructor. He's really good at what he does and he's not afraid to be direct and honest with his feedback. Brian, who is also our instructor, is excellent at giving positive feedback with his constructive criticism. As acting coaches, Matthew and Brian are pros. Their critiques are clear and concise. I have grown greatly as an actor. Matthew and Brian have created a safe place to explore an experiment and spread your wings as an actor. They have created a family. I am proud and happy to be a part of the Dearing Family. read more

Since 2015, I have had the pleasure of taking a variety of classes at Dearing Acting Studio, including private sessions with Matt Dearing. His keen expertise has not only helped me to grow in the business but has also allowed me to become more self-aware as an artist and as a person. When I came out to him as a transman, he urged me to embrace my unique perspective, even though I was skeptical of how the industry might treat me. After all, acting is about being yourself in a multitude of different scenarios. I have remained true to myself, and I am confident that there is a place for me in this business. Thank you, Matt, for your guidance and support. Keep doing your magic! read more

Let me preface this review by writing that I LOVE everyone that work at or is part of Dearing Studio. I love Brian Sweeney who is such a genuine person and will go out of his way to teach you or make you happy. They have great acting classes, great location, flexible pricing and is supportive of the acting community. Why 4 stars and not 5? For the fact that both of the classes that I took, the teacher has not stayed consistent throughout the duration of the course. One class had so many subs from week to week, I forgot who my original teacher was suppose to be. The other one listed one instructor (and the reason I decided to take the class), another instructor taught the first class (needless to say I was very disappointed) then a different instructor taught the remaining classes. If they can iron these details out, then I would gladly give them 5 stars!! read more

I can't yell loud enough to get your attention ... Dearing Actor Studios is Remarkable for both Actors ... and Humans! It is a brick and mortar Treasure Chest of Talent, Tools and Heart geared towards more than "Lights, Camera, Action!". For myself, as both an Actor and a Business Owner, the benefit of my time at Dearing Actor Studios is immeasurable. At Dearing, you learn truthful connection, you learn techniques, you learn about yourself and finally, you learn to get out of your comfort zone (in a safe and fun environment). It is like being a kid again! There is no end to the courses, there are no degree or certificates to be had ... and no promises of stardom! What you get is tools, a confidence, a truthfulness, revved up empathy and for most; a few hours of carefree joy and learning each week! Howard Bland RecoveryGuides.us read more

I never would have thought you could find such a great school outside of Los Angeles. I can't even exaggerate the value I think you get from this class. The passionate and artful teaching styles are only reinforced by the red carpet treatment of getting your scenes filmed AND edited to be sent for review that same week. Not to mention, the positivity that is coached into your daily acts of life. If you've ever had an itch to act, look no further than Dearing. Bravo. read more

I just finished up with my first month-long class at Dearing Acting Studio and I have nothing but good things to say. My class had the perfect number of students, ages ranging from late teens to 40s. It was the perfect mix of both males and females with varying degrees of experience. My instructors were consistent, and both Brian Sweeney and Matt Dearing were excellent; their styles complimented each other wonderfully. I can tell they take their classes very seriously (but not too seriously) which is perfect. Whether you're an aspiring actor/actress looking to hone your craft and work with other like-minded people, or you're simply a hobbyist looking to break out of your shell and become more amiable in daily life, I feel confident recommending this studio. It is highly likely that you will both enjoy and value the time you spend here, and you will likely be coming back for more. read more

You won't find a better acting school in the Valley. Dearing Studio classes and teachers are top notch. They switch the classes up each month and have a huge variety to choose from. As an actor, I cannot emphasize how important it is be well-versed in all aspects of the craft. I've consistently gotten callbacks and bookings and I know that it's due to my training at the Dearing Acting Studio. They truly care about the success of each of their students and I'm proud to say I'm part of the Dearing Studio family. read more

Chaos Comedy is located at the Dearing Acting Studio. This improv troop has a great show for families on Saturdays at 7 in a comfortable theater. Once a month they put on a 18 and over show at midnight which is awesome. The players are excellent and the show is only an hour, so it is a great way to start off your Saturday night. Prices are reasonable and snacks are cheap. They have us laughing almost the entire time were there and everyone is very friendly in this family owned business. read more

The Dearing Acting Studio is responsible for launching my acting career. Five years ago I was new to acting, I had no clue what I needed to, learn and then...I took my very first class from the Dearing Acting Studio, that lead me to many more classes, such as Scene Study, Monologue class Comedic/Dramatic monologues, and Improv. Today I am a successful actor, in commercials, print work, film and stage plays. Many of the jobs are paid. Dearing Acting Studio knows the Talent Agency's in AZ and they are helpful in bringing the student and agents together with a showcase where the student performs with a monologue or a scene from a play. I love the Agency that I am with. Thank you Matthew Dearing and Leeann Dearing for showing me, teaching me what it takes to be successful. Linney Allen Actor read more

We went to the Saturday kid/family friendly show- we had such a great time!!! This place was a huge surprise as we had never heard of this type of family friendly improv before. The troupe is hilarious. Our 10 and 5 year old kids with us loved the show and we as the adults did too!! Seriously- anyone living in Phoenix or visiting should try to make it out to see a show here! read more

I have been to other studios and must admit that I've always taken away valuable info from each studio and instructor. But at some time, if lucky, you find a safe place to study and grow that feels like home. This doesn't mean easier. Think growing pains like when you were a kid. You feel loved even when you have to be lectured or corrected. This is how I feel about Dearing...and this philosophy is abundant with all the instructors. I've had so much help. So much success and I'm 73 and have only been at it for two years. Bravo Dearing! read more

Dearing is dear to my heart. My son has benefited tremendously from their classes by coming out of his shell and learning techniques that allow his truly great self to express himself and grow. It's the best decision we have ever made. The staff is professional yet unafraid in bringing the best out in people. In a world where people are often bullied to conform, Dearing equips its students by providing them with the tools to be the important and unique individuals they are and were meant to be so they can flavor society instead of simply existing in society. read more

This is hands down of the BEST acting student in Arizona. From the time I stepped through the door the entire staff is extremely welcoming and inspiring! The class environment is very professional as we are not only having a good time learning about different acting techniques we are challenged and each class video records our performance which is FANTASTIC! I feel not only am I learning about becoming a better actor, Matt helps his students to WORK which is important to me. i just finished another class here....Improv Games. i was so green to these style of "acting". i'm not quick witted...it usually takes me up to a day to come up with a "witty" reply. i'm more of a potty mouth, personal attack, politically incorrect response kind of guy, which obviously means i need to expand my vocabulary. javier whom led the class, was above helpful and insightful. he kept us motivated and critiqued the performances in a highly constructive way. i was also impressed at how he handled many of the younger students, whom seemed to have issues with not talking and paying attention at the right moments. again, great class and instructor. i can't wait for my moment on the big screen...one action mega-blockbuster hit!!!!!! read more

I have been attending acting classes at Dearing for a year and believe me when I say..THIS is as good as it gets. I attended Dearing Acting Studio for 6 months. This is the place to learn a new side of yourself around the right kind of people. They encourage freedom of expression. Freedom from being judge or worry of what others think. They are open to genuine people in pursuit of the dramatic arts in script and improv classes as well as master classes for those who want to go to the next level after attending for a while. The instructors is what impressed me the most is the positive yet straight forward the instructors are with pushing us away from the normal world and practicing a sense of freedom not normally felt in your everyday life. Acting is a mental exercise that take time and practice not only in their classes, but lessons to flex in every day life. They are good about calling out the common misconceptions of acting classes and training you for the right mindset in mastering the craft through their school. They want you to feel free to try new things and understand mistakes are normal, We are exploring our own potential at a supportive pace, but with the right kind of push outside of your comfort zone to get you to challenge yourself. This is not just reading lines and tryign to score jobs. It is the practice of discovering yourself, then mastering how to express that through characterization and creative expression. I highly recommend this class. Matt Dearing, Brian Sweeney, JL, and Shea all have been an awesome and rewarding experience to learn from. Give this studio a shot. Very affordable and 100% worth it. read more
