We scheduled an acrylic paint class and it was so fun and informative. Barbara at Art for Fun provides the perfect balance between instruction and freedom to do your own thing. There are no prescribed paintings. Paint what's in your head and heart or peruse her idea books. She'll help you decide on colors and will even offer suggestions to get your creative juices flowing. I'm going back for a fused glass class. I highly recommend! The price is right, too.

My beginning project....I will post finished photos later. This was the best therapy for a long week.

I bought a groupon to try this out. This is a family business that treats you like one of their own! My beginner project turned into a wonderful masterpiece through their expert instruction. I will be back.

Barbara has an amazing studio that covers just about every type of art you may want to experience. I decide to work with glass. I made my first piece (bowl) and had a blast. I then leaped into making 3 large pieces (11X27). Barbara was so very helpful, fun and creative with her suggestions on my pieces. We would bounce ideas off each other and we would both get excited when one of us would come up with a cool idea. I plan on having my large glass pieces mounted on metal for a modern look. If you want a fun day for yourself or a group you will not be disappointed with Barbara's studio!!!

    My masterpiece!

My three friends and I purchased a Groupon for Barbara's studio in December and finally made our way in this past Tuesday at 6:30pm. Finding a time that worked for all of us and for Barbara (she's busy with all the Groupon's) was a bit challenging but we had no problems redeeming ours with her, though our's hadn't expired yet. The Groupon is a great introduction to the art as we paid $26pp and it's normally $45. Having done the Circle 6 studio's glass blowing Groupon before, I was pleasantly surprised this wasn't glass blowing but glass fusing. WAY different and personally, much more enjoyable. The glass blowing seemed to intimidating to me and I felt like they did most of the work. This class is all you! Barbara was friendly and knowledgeable when giving us instructions on the process and she had several samples to inspire you. She has some beautiful glass in her studio that you can add to your design for an up-charge ($4-$20 is the average for some unique additions) depending on how fancy you want to go but the regular selection you get to pick from also has many colors and choices. You get your choice of a round, square, or circle base glass for the Groupon deal and then many different glass choices for your design. The options seem endless and it took me at least 30 minutes to even come up with a design! Barbara was patient and helpful to everyone in our class, even getting more of a particular glass as requested. There were 8 of us during this session and I did have to wait for awhile while others used the 2 cutting areas but it just gave me more time to look around and work on my design. Once you finish, Barbara will fire your piece and you have to go back and pick it up. She said usually six days. The studio is clean and she even offered us pop (or 'soda' if your from around here) and allowed us to stay even a little bit later than our 2.5 hour session to finish up. Overall I had a great time and would love to go again! Can't wait to get my piece back!

Metropolitan Arts Institute, a school that I previously attended from eighth grade to the beginning…read moreof my junior year in high school. And at every turn, every possible opportunity I have been dissapointed by this school. This supposed "Art" school lacks any classes that would actually qualify it as an art school, and in that regard Metro manages to somehow offer lessart classes than a majority of public schools, lacking any culinary classes or even woodworking. This school offers no opportunities for students to excel within their own classes or grade level by offering the opportunity for students to skip a classes if they have already studied or learned the topic within a class outside of the school. That aside, the school does not support students who wish to gain college credits as they progress through school and as such a majority of the students cannot benefit from gaining early credits. Even still the school has absolutely terrible management, from the absolutely mediocre job as a principle that Matt Baker does. Where as he rarely participates or is even active around the school. The poor sanitation conditions within the school bathrooms both male and female. The unfulfilling and almost laughable attempts at a legitimate prom that this school has. Whereas it is poorly planned and funded, poorly put together and absolutely terribly executed. Even other students here laugh, at the miserable and terrible management this school suffers from. The teachers constantly changing yearly and the new ones coming in not knowing how to adequately teach their students. Overall this school is an absolute waste of time, money, and resources in general save yourself and your children from this absolutely mediocre excuse for a school and go to an actual school. Paragraph construction and organization skills provided by Alhambra Traditional School, not Metro Arts, this school taught and gave me nothing but disappointment.
