Wow! What a wonderful hidden gem! My friend invited me to attend a stained glass class with her at the Phoenix Glass Center. I had never heard of the Phoenix Glass Center before, but thought it would be fun to make a stained glass sun catcher. Make sure you have your GPS activated because it's a bit tricky to find their location. It's hidden in an industrial area right next to the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport runway. We made sure to get to class early, as they had requested in their email. They have a shop with beautiful glass items for sale. They provide bottled water for students as well. Our class was in a second newer building just across the parking lot. Our instructor was Sarah. She was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and extremely patient with novice glass artists like myself. The class was set for three hours but it was a long process with many steps, so the class ran over. I didn't mind. I was happy not to be rushed through the process. All in all, it was a really fun evening! They are offering an upcoming stained glass class where you can make a Mother's Day frame. Such a cool and unique activity to do solo or with a partner! My friend and I signed up for a beginner class and opted to make pumpkins. Our instructor was Ethan, I really appreciated him explaining the whole process in depth, and educating us on the proper methods for doing this project. The session was an hour in total. Ethan starts out with talking through what items you can make during the session, color choices, pattern options, and design preferences.... then he gives you a tour of the space and gives an overview of the process and what to expect beforehand. We then picked out our options and put on safety gear to get started. The instructors are there with you every step of the process, and work together with you to develop your piece. Something to note is that you can take home your item on the same day, so you'll have to pick up the next day or whenever you're available during their hours. Super cool! The Phx Glass Center is a great place off the beaten path. They offer group sessions focused on seasonal objects like ornaments or pumpkins. They also offer 1-hour long date night sessions where you choose between making a paperweight, sun catcher or goblet. Instructions are clear and easy and the class is educational and fun. It's hands on and after a few directions and safety instructions, your dipping hot glass in frit and creating your own masterpiece. Justin is awesome, he really knows what he's doing and made us feel comfortable. He explained everything very well so we felt educated and safe with the tasks in front of us. We took a private class as it was my wife's birthday and she'd expressed an interest in glass blowing. I had planned on just watching her enjoy herself but after walking in and feeling so comfortable with Justin and his facility I had to participate! This was a Christmas gift from our son. We had a private party of 6 people. The class was awesome and even better than I could have imagined. I LOVE blown glass and to get the chance and experience to create my own piece was really just so delightful. Everyone in our group had a really great experience. I brought my 90 year old Mom. Our instructors Bill and Ethan helped her every step of the way to make sure she could do all of it and she just loved the class! The shop was neat and clean and set up great for classes. They took their time and explained each step of the process and guided each of us as we created our unique one of a kind pieces. We can't wait to go back and take another class and make another wonderful piece of blown class of our very own again. This is only a review of the customer service. We were not able to experience the class. We were scheduled for the class for two tomorrow and today we tested positive for Covid. I called Phoenix Glass Center and a man answered (I don't know his name). I informed him that we tested positive and should reschedule. He responded that they would charge a $60 fee for the cancellation. Though I did not expect that, I could have moved on if not for the dude's attitude. He was rude and condescending. I asked if there were any other options. He offered for us to pay full price to watch from outside. I'm still not sure if he thought that was a serious offer. I understand it is too late to fill those spots. I also understand they have to cover the cost of a vacant spot. This situation does not have a solution that satisfies everyone, and I am not that bothered by the cancellation fee. I booked the class online, but would have hung up immediately if I had called and talked to the same person when booking. We love trying new experiences and supporting local businesses. There are other glass shops in the area and I will look to them when I book the next class. read more

What a blast! My wife and I have done several cups and desk ornaments and they all came out amazing. Last week I took my team in as a group event and everyone loved it. Would you recommend this to a family/friend? YES! 100%! First, we did this class during covid. Justin is very professional and took the necessary measures to make this class fun and covid-safe. So if you're looking for an activity to do, this is it. Second, I usually rate something like this in three areas: - Host / Company - Experience (customer experience and activity) - Price-to-value Host / Company Justin was an absolute pleasure. So much so, that he was the primary reason why this class was fantastic. He truly knows his craft! I'm that annoying customer that asks way too many questions (out of shear curiosity). He answered all of my questions and taught me more than I thought I would learn. Justin was engaging, humorous and an all-around great bloke. Experience Glass blowing is like wine... It is science + art, which makes it a beautiful craft. The opportunity to make your own glass object is so cool! Justin allowed us to be as hands-on as we could be (with safety in mind). This interactive activity left me feeling proud of the objects I made. I can't wait to use them! The glass bowl I made might be my new favorite salad bowl. Price-to-value I took this class with my dad, only two of us. Because of this, we each made two objects. That alone is worth the price. However, this class covered two key points in price-to-value. 1. It isn't expensive to do for a few hours of 1:1, hands-on experience 2. Gifted my husband a class for the two of us for Christmas and we had a great time. Justin was great about answering my many many covid protocol questions before the class. I have seen other places that give glass blowing classes; namely the place at Thanksgiving Point (Lehi Ut.) These locations are restrictive and you don't have a lot of hands on work to do. I am so glad I came to PHX Glass Center. The host: Juston is the quintessential jack of all trades looking guy. As I was parking I was looking around at my surrounding. The studio is in an unassuming industrial part of phoenix. Juston stepped out of the building, and it was an instant, "That's the guy..." Juston was an amazing teacher/instructor/host/performer. He has a great and easy going way of handling a group. Light hearted and jovial, Juston takes you through all the pieces of the glass making process. There is always an underlining professionalism in his work. You can completely tell he is dedicated to his craft. He's EXTREMELY knowledgable. I am a person that asks way too many questions. I love learning about things and I came packing with questions. Like a belt fed machine gun, I peppered Juston with my curious inquires; he had wonderful full answers that were clear and insightful. Juston seriously wants the people going through the various classes and functions to learn. He want them to have fun making beautiful pieces, in the safest way possible. Options (Glass Making Pieces) It was extremely difficult to choose what to make. Juston has several options and each has some wonderful functionality. With an equal amount of options for colors and patterns a person can make an unparalleled unique item. Becoming a cherished item from the wonderful experience. Plus because there are so many options you can return making several more pieces with Juston having a great time each time you return. (it was that much fun...) The Process and Materials: This is really where I feel Juston's event is a cut above the rest. Juston has things laid out ready for you to have a great experience. You sign some paperwork for safety and compliance to the rules of Juston's studio and shop. If you follow Juston's direction there's no way you can get into trouble...there are things that are several things that are "no touchy." Juston is thorough with instruction and safety (both for normal glass making and COVID). You are dealing with molten glass, extremely high temperature devices but with the guidance and direction from Juston you are doing most of the process and there is low ability to fail at making a great piece. There are others who have limits in what you can make, what colors you get, what patterns are available, etc. They make the experience so structured that they take away from the experience. Juston and Phoenix Glass Center does the exact opposite. He makes it all about the customer, their piece, their experience, their time, and it really shows. Each option gives the individual unique methods and tools to create it. You get to heat the glass, turn the glass, add colors, create different patterns, manipulate the shape, and more. Juston has a mobile package, individual and group packages. These are great for one offs, anniversaries, birthdays, team building activities, events, etc. Plus its one more thing you can cross off your list of things you've always wanted to do but never got around to it. For the time, pieces, and instructions these are great prices. I had such a great time I couldn't recommend this experience enough. I love my different pieces I made with Juston. Go now! I can see this venture growing and becoming hard to get an appointment when more people hear about it. Be advised you have to prepare yourself close toed shoes, natural fabrics (cotton, wool, etc) although I doubt there would be an issue safety first. read more
