A truly incredible experience with my "Stackable Rings" class at Harold Studio. Nicolette was kind, understanding, and very patient with me and my mother as we worked through learning the process. I really enjoyed the time we had there and absolutely want to take another class when I am back in town! Thank you Nicolette for teaching us in such a comfortable way. I am truly impressed by this studio. The owner was also in the studio working on her pieces and she is also so very nice.

I just finished the Cabochon ring class led by Cher. She is super knowledgeable, patient and able to communicate on many different levels with her students in order for everyone to understand what needs to happen. It takes a special person, as each of us was at a different point in ring making process. Because of different size cabs and also ability to execute a step correctly, etc. I will certainly be back for more lessons. Live my ring! Thank you Cher!

Spinner ring class. Cher is the best instructor ever. Patient, kind, encouraging and knowledgable.

Amazingly cute and eclectic studio in downtown Phoenix. I love this place! I have taken a number of classes at Harold's and you won't find more knowledgeable instructors than at Harold's! Cher is the best teacher, she is patient, artistic, and a professional teacher. The atmosphere and everything about this spot is charming. If you are at all interested in starting to Metalsmith, or you need to brush up on skills, this is the best spot in the Valley!

I attended my very first ever silversmithing class here! The studio is a really cool place. Our class only consisted of myself and two others, so you get lots of guidance and you're not fighting for space. My friend and I loved our instructor, and were so happy with our pieces when we left!! I'd highly recommend this to anyone whether you just want to try it out for fun, or something more!

We love Harold studio!! Although I haven't had the opportunity to go and play and make jewelry over at the studio I follow the Instagram page and see all of the beautiful work that has come out of there all of the time and it is quite impressive. Where I work we had our 30th anniversary a couple of years ago and came up with the idea of having something made and contacted the studio to see if We could have pendants made for all of the co workers and we were going to surprise our boss with one as well ! We had pendants made with 30 hash marks made on sterling silver . They turned out perfect and we are a Large group of ladies about 17 of us we were all excited and very pleased !! I would definitely recommend Harold Studio again ! Thank you !!!

My husband and I designed and handmade each other's wedding bands from scratch with no prior knowledge of jewelry making.

Now where is that six star button? Honestly, a couple months ago my husband and I spent an entire day with the owner, Johanna, literally designing, molding, and creating each other's wedding bands from scratch. Yes, you heard me right. We MADE each other's wedding bands. Three words: Best. Date. Ever. We chose to make ours in sterling silver (I'm allergic to gold), but you can also make gold rings as well. In a matter of 5 hours, we turned a couple beads of silver into two gorgeous wedding bands. Johanna was amazing, and walked us through every step. She made herself totally available for the whole day and was so helpful and patient. We knew nothing about the process, and not only did she show us what to do, but she explained why we did it that way. My husband made me a small, delicate braided band, and I made him a very masculine band with comfort grip and a matte finish. Both turned out flawless and stunning, thanks to all of the support from the owner. There are also options to set stones in the rings, but for now we're sticking with the beautifully simple bands that our friends and family are always oohing and aahhing at. Plus, who else can say that they literally made their significant other's ring with their bare hands? Harold Studio also offers classes, which I am dying to try! Some of the jewelry they make out there is amazing. They are even making dog tags this season! So creative! All around a great date, a learning process, and excellent products that we will cherish for the rest of our lives!

My one recommendation is that the school create an online chat group so that potential students know more about what to expect if attending for the first time. Here are my tips: The school has a store that has some basic art materials in case you forget something such as solvents, canvases, brushes, etc. They also have items you can borrow such as brushes and glass jars for solvents. Food is limited. They have a service where you can order lunch from a local restaurant if you get your order in before 10, but it's just sandwiches and salads, and the only drink available is ice tea. There's a cafe across the street that has very pricey coffee drinks and pastries. There's also a Starbucks and Walgreens within walking distance. You can certainly bring your own food and drinks, they have a refrigerator and microwave. There's also usually basic coffee available. The closest art store is Blick in Tempe. Next to Blick is Trader Joe's which is a good place to stock up on food and drinks. In the same strip mall there are also several restaurants. Do not hesitate to rent a car, parking is ample and free almost everywhere. The heat is oppressive in October and I don't recommend walking as I did. There's a bus that runs up and down N. Scottsdale Rd. and it just costs $2 cash. It came in handy one day when I needed to go to Blick and didn't want to pay $20 for Uber each way. The closest places to stay are Hilton Canopy and Bespoke, make sure to ask for student discounts. I ended up at the less expensive Hyatt House which was one mile away but it had a living room and kitchen, daily breakfast, and was quiet in the back. The models were great, I was a little surprised that they wanted us to tip on top of already paying a model fee. They suggested $5-$10, so bring cash. They did print color copies of the models for us for free. There were two dogs in the classroom. If you don't like dogs or are allergic I would ask about dogs before attending. The air conditioning is very cold, so bring a jacket or sweater. They will ship your oil paintings back home to you once they're dry and charge your credit card the shipping fee. As a student you get free admission to the Western Spirit museum across the street, and discounted admission to the Contemporary Museum which is near the Civic Center and Saturday farmers market. There are tons of galleries just a few blocks from the school on E. Main St.

And at every turn, every possible opportunity I have been dissapointed by this school. This supposed "Art" school lacks any classes that would actually qualify it as an art school, and in that regard Metro manages to somehow offer lessart classes than a majority of public schools, lacking any culinary classes or even woodworking. This school offers no opportunities for students to excel within their own classes or grade level by offering the opportunity for students to skip a classes if they have already studied or learned the topic within a class outside of the school. That aside, the school does not support students who wish to gain college credits as they progress through school and as such a majority of the students cannot benefit from gaining early credits. Even still the school has absolutely terrible management, from the absolutely mediocre job as a principle that Matt Baker does. Where as he rarely participates or is even active around the school. The poor sanitation conditions within the school bathrooms both male and female. The unfulfilling and almost laughable attempts at a legitimate prom that this school has. Whereas it is poorly planned and funded, poorly put together and absolutely terribly executed. Even other students here laugh, at the miserable and terrible management this school suffers from. The teachers constantly changing yearly and the new ones coming in not knowing how to adequately teach their students. Overall this school is an absolute waste of time, money, and resources in general save yourself and your children from this absolutely mediocre excuse for a school and go to an actual school. Paragraph construction and organization skills provided by Alhambra Traditional School, not Metro Arts, this school taught and gave me nothing but disappointment.

Some instructors here are very good at what they do, and support their students to the best of their abilities. The student body is made up of artists, and most primarily are neurodivergent and/or are somewhere in the LGBTQ+ umbrella. The school is a bit smaller as well. As good as these things are for me, the many negative aspects are what drives my review down. The fact that this school has "Academics" in their name is somewhat laughable. Yes, in some aspects they attempt to create a good physical curriculum, but many other subjects they throw students onto an online curriculum and let some minimally qualified instructor watch them. Many struggled greatly in some subjects, me included, and some subjects had extremely limited support. As a college student, I feel like I was prepped poorly for college. The knowledge gaps, the lack of a real source to ask questions before graduating and heading to college were the biggest issues that I discovered. On that topic, worth noting this school does offer dual enrollment classes, which is good. Rules at this school are enforced on random. It seems to depend fully on the student, instructor, day, and how much the dean likes the person. There is also retaliation that occurs sometimes, and the dean will pry herself into situations that don't need her, and only listen to what she thinks is correct without hearing anyone else. The dean of this school is the central issue however. Because of her position, she acts as if she's better than everyone, and she's untouchable. She's got great skill at manipulating situations, so some people will see a completely different person opposed to others, which is why reviews are mixed. The cleanness of the campus is rather gross, and a reason for that are the "therapy", or occasionally defined as "emotional support" dogs brought in, that aren't ever in a designated spot, but instead brought into classrooms. One or two of these dogs are the dean's personal dog. One of the dogs, not the dean's, barks, and also is a type of dog that can cause allergies in some. Remember my statement about the school not being clean? Some students were very uncomfortable with these dogs being everywhere, but they couldn't say anything because the dean brings her dog, and some other students like the dogs, and don't want them to go away. I honestly would have gone elsewhere if I had known that this would be my experience.

As so many other reviewers have pointed out, this school has so much potential it could likely…read moreachieve if it weren't for a Dean who runs the school in a purely chaotic manner and thrives on "listening to the kids" so long as the end result is a CPS report or other way to divide kids from their parents. Equally as terrifying is Camille Rankin, school counselor, whose credentials include being an exotic animal trainer. In all of the time she's been at the school, she's failed to put in the hours required to counsel kids. I have met with her one time and she spent our meeting explaining to me that the Dean doesn't know how to effectively communicate or get thoughts across and we should listen to her as the voice of authority. In reality, Ms. Dowell is actually running the school and she does it with a level of grace and professionalism you won't see elsewhere at NSAA except in interactions with Miss C, who is a dance instructor and administrator. She is also humble, knows when to be soft and when tough love is in order. Everything that has been said in other reviews about Ms. Parker is also true. She is a blight on NSAA, a grumpy, angry and outright mean human who has caused so, so many kids to walk away from their love of art. She interacts with the kids from the moment they're dropped off to the moment they go home, enforcing ridiculous "rules" like they can't use the bathroom or "are walking the wrong way." Be careful about sending your children here. It's not just the lack of physical security that's an issue (no lockdown drills, no emergency protocol) but there is a deep, deep threat to the kids' psyches between the Dean and Camille, the exotic animal trainer who hasn't put in enough hours to actually be certified to do the job she is doing. The fact that Camille will counsel children and, as part of that counsel, tell kids and their parents that the Dean is incapable (which IS true) is super confusing to young minds. I think a really recent story that illustrates what's important to the top brass at NSAA is this one: this summer, during some of the hottest months, the a/c in the middle school went out for an extended period of time. Parents were not alerted unless their child mentioned it. But watching the Dean get into her Land Rover and drive home in the lap of luxury each day while these innocent kids were sweltering really struck a cord with me. It's a good lens to look through when thinking about this school.
