If I was going to summarize, I'd say VaVaVoom is a warm and welcoming environment for anyone, of any background, of any skill level. If that's all you need to hear, there you go. But, there's a lot more to it than that, so I'll share a bit about my experience, and you can decide if the studio is right for you. I'm 35. I have never danced. I'm out of shape. I'm not social. I don't go out. I never got into "girly" things. However, I have always admired dancers for their physique and poise, and I wanted to try to work fitness into my life in a way that didn't suck. So, I started looking on Yelp for studios of any kind that offered beginning dance lessons. VaVaVoom had the highest ratings of any studio. I just about died. I'm not that kind of person. Just the thought of burlesque made me uncomfortable. That's when I realized I had to do it- not because I wanted to be some kind of sexy showgirl, but because burlesque represented everything I am not... or so I thought. I wanted to grow. I signed up for the Level 1 Moves class, and I'm not gonna lie. It kicked my butt. My body doesn't know how to coordinate the moves yet. The class is very fast-paced and you learn several moves in each one, then before you know it, you're combining them and trying not to trip over your own two feet. I was not alone in this. Why? Because half the ladies in my class had no dance experience, and we literally came from every walk of life, were all different ages, were all different shapes. But, here's the thing... I was lucky enough to get Delphine as my primary instructor, and she was hilarious. She found ways to make us laugh when we were frustrated. She encouraged us and kept us moving. She reminded us repeatedly that it takes time for our bodies to get used to the movements. Part of me wants to say that if I had any other instructor, my experience wouldn't have been the same, but I've also had the pleasure of meeting Lucy and Wynter as well, and the vibe carries over. A big part of that is because Lucy (the studio owner) totally sets the tone. She has a no BS attitude and focuses on positivity. The expectation in the studio is that we lift each other up and appreciate the good in ourselves. Not once have I ever seen any kind of catty behavior or nastiness from anyone. The more advanced students and teachers bring you under their wing, and you automatically become part of the tribe. All the students are wonderful as well. As far as my personal development goes, one round of Level 1 Moves was not enough. I don't have the moves down enough yet that I feel comfortable moving onto the next class. I talked to Lucy and Del about it, both were great and encouraging. The end result is that I'm presently taking Level 1 Moves as a "reviewer" at roughly half the cost that I paid for my first session. And, the super cool thing is that if I feel the need to take it a third time, it's only $25. Who does that?!? Nobody that I know of offers a discount for retaking a class. I think it's a huge testament to Lucy that she does that- it shows she believes in what they're teaching and she believes in the students. I am incredibly excited to be taking the class again, and look forward to taking several more advanced sessions after. Here's the other thing about VaVaVoom... it's not just burlesque. Lucy's got a whole lot of other stuff happening at the studio. There's a "Beauty Parlor" session, where you learn how to do Pinup/ stage makeup and can get professional photos taken. She does "FEMMEpowerment" sessions with hiking, positive juju, and other stuff mixed in. And, they sometimes host other types of dance classes and workshops. I'm focused only on burlesque until I get that down, but I'm pretty sure I've seen musings of belly dancing, salsa, hip-hop, and go-go dancing so far. In other words, linking up with the studio doesn't just give you the opportunity to learn burlesque- it's a place where you can learn all kinds of things, be part of something, and feel good about yourself. You don't need to be a dancer, have a perfect body, or even be wholeheartedly set on burlesque to enjoy your time at VaVaVoom. Studio Vavavoom has been life-changing for me, and I don't mean that trivially. I've been taking lessons there for the past 8 months or so, and it's done wonders for my confidence and body image. When I started, I felt perpetually awkward and uncoordinated (particularly since I had motor control deficits as a child), and had more than a few issues with my body (I'm trans). While it has been a struggle at times (and sometimes still continues to be), through practice and the fantastic teachers at Vavavoom, I've been able to both improve my ability to move gracefully and deliberately (at least according to my wife), and even more importantly, have changed a lot of my conceptions about my self-image. Things that I used to see as flaws- my shoulders and strong facial features, for example- I now can see as assets, even something to be desired. While I'd slowly been becoming more OK with my body through the course of my transition, it wasn't I started taking classes at Studio Vavavoom that I was really able to appreciate it, and truly recognize that the beautiful and sexy woman that I'm becoming. I'm grateful to V3 for giving me this powerful realization. Obviously, Vavavoom is an extremely inclusive space, and very LGBT-friendly - despite being an out trans woman (and a lesbian one at that), I've never felt anything but welcome and acceptance there (and I later discovered that several of the instructors have ties to the LGBT community, to boot). To both the teachers and my fellow students, I'm just one of the girls, which has been a truly amazing experience. If you've ever craved the feeling of sisterhood, regardless of your gender, V3 is a great place to find it. The school has a series of tracks- beginner, intermediate, and advanced- spread out through a number of sessions, allowing you to work your way up the skill ladder without overfacing you. Students ultimately have the opportunity to perform publicly via "Hanky Pankies", student recital shows that occur several times a year. My first one is coming up in a few months, and I can't wait to get out on the stage. I highly recommend burlesque lesson at Studio Vavavoom. I'm not only the owner but also take classes here, so as the owner of course I think it's a fantastic space! As a student, I have found the instructors to be warm, knowledgeable, and fun. I have been dancing at Studio VaVaVoom for 3+ years and performing in their shows for about 2 years. I have transformed from a self-conscious wallflower with terrible self-esteem, into a confident woman who loves herself, her body, and what it can do. Dancing has become my medicine, and June Cleavidge is the doctor! She and her instructors run a tight ship and they have truly earned the title of best dance studio in the valley in 2021. They are always supportive and encouraging, promoting self-love and body positivity. One thing I really like about June's choreo classes is her ability to build you up while offering constructive suggestions to improve your dancing and stage persona. She is the best cheerleader and dad, giving lots of love and motivation. Isabella Maelay's stretching and conditioning class is my favorite because her workouts are never the same and I always leave feeling confident and capable. By far one of the best, and most versatile & creative, dance studios in the valley. Found this place on a whim & by a fluke-simply googled "adult dance classes"-and Studio VaVaVoom popped up. I danced when I was younger & was looking for a way to rekindle that long lost love. But I really wanted to DANCE-well let me tell you-this is the place! I started taking classes just over two years ago & this Studio has become my family. Never before have I experienced such a supportive, diverse, and creative group of people. Highly, highly recommended! So... you're walking into a burlesque dance class and in your head it is an overwhelming thing; however, the teachers are warm, encouraging, supportive and really know what they're doing, the studio itself is welcoming, and, best of all, because of the "no nastiness" rule in place, even your fellow students help to cultivate an environment that makes you feel at ease. The actual dance education is great, as it is broken down in such a way that it's simple enough to pick up even if you've never taken a single dance lesson before, but challenging enough that you walk away feeling as if you've truly accomplished something. The instructors are immensely helpful, patiently answering all your questions and correcting your mistakes, all while maintaining kind and positive attitudes. Hokay so... First off I'd like to mention that I am a guy, and I'm also a local burlesque performer as well as a producer. Studio V3 is one of the longest standing burlesque schools here in Arizona, and for very good reason. They work on a foundation of body positivity, and base their education on the level of their clients. I took a workshop with Lucy a few years ago, and i learned WAY more than you could put in an advertisement or pamphlet. I have been taking classes here for 2 sessions, and just signed up for my 3rd. This little jewel of positivity is such a rare treat. All people here are celebrated and empowered. I went into my first class negative and clumsy, with a definite feeling that I couldn't succeed. Lucy has encouraged me, and doesn't allow you to be negative to anyone-especially yourself. Now I shake my booty with a smile, and I know I am doing the best I can, and if I am not so good at something yet, it just means I need more practice and not to beat myself up. I love how Lucy explains everything so clearly, and helps me understand how my body moves and works. She pushes hard, at the same time respecting limitations. This is such an amazing safe place for you to figure out who you are and how you work. It is so much more that just a place for a booty shaking dance class, however there is much booty shaking. Studio Vavavoom is wonderful! The dance space is nice and the décor enhances the energy. The teachers are knowledgeable, welcoming, fun and caring. Classes are fun and the other students are non-judgmental since they are there to have a good time too. Different classes are offered for a reasonable price. Each eight week class has a lesson plan so you're not thrown into something at random each night. They do offer drop in classes which is the dance sampler classes and are broken down by style. There are also workshops that happen in the studio. Students who take choreography classes can dance in the student shows if they like, but there is no pressure to be in a show. You can dance for fun in classes or work towards becoming a professional. I love taking burlesque there. read more

This is my first burlesque class and I was bit nervous, but as soon as I walked into the studio and met the instructor Lucy, I was filled with confidence and excitement to dance. Her teachings in the basics of burlesque go beyond just mastering technique or routines, she takes the time to explain the history of burlesque, the performers, how to appreciate your personal attributes as a performer and a person and is just wonderful to learn from and dance with. This is typically known as a dance studio, but there is sooo much more going on here! I began my journey into the dance world with no experience, an introvert and full of personal fears. Because of their acceptance of everyone who walks through the door, I felt at ease from the first class. This is an amazing fun place. Studio VaVaVoom hosts several different types of classes a week including fabulous guest instructors from out of town and around the valley. It's a safe warm inviting place to come have fun, let loose and learn something new. The instructors are friendly, encouraging and give great direction. VaVaVoom is a beautiful studio! Classes are the magical balance of fun and challenging :) I've been to a few of the dance sampler classes and will take more as my schedule allows.
