While in Dearborn this past weekend, I received a tip from the owner of a local restaurant to try "the best middle eastern bakery in all of Dearborn". That brought me to Dearborn Sweets. I haven't tried any other bakeries in Dearborn, but I can tell you that my experience here was fantastic. Customer service and friendliness were beyond excellent; but be sure to pack your patience at peak times because this spot was slammed. You take a number when you walk in, and then wait, and wait, and wait for it to be your turn. This isn't for lack of staff, because there were at least a dozen people working behind the counter, it's just because they were packed with customers! The selections are overwhelming and since it was my first visit, I needed help. The young lady who helped me was very patient, told me about the differences in their specialized Arabic pastries, showed me her favorites, customer favorites, and descriptions for anything I asked about. I went with a small sampler tray of her favorite specialized pastries and their best sellers. Everything was delicious! Flavors, textures, uniqueness, complexity...all of it. My whole family raved about all the treats, so we ended up going back later in the weekend and purchasing a couple larger trays of our favorites (and some new selections) to take home and share. We all agreed that the Qatayef was easily our favorite; for anyone who doesn't know, it is a small pancake filled with custard, fresh chopped strawberries, chopped pistachios, and drizzled with chocolate...fresh, bright, and mouthwateringly delicious. The only negative I experienced was that when I visited around 10am on Sunday to load up for our trip home, their selections were very limited, and I was told I'd need to come back after 3pm to get some of the things I was looking for. So, I would recommend calling ahead to see if they have a full selection before you go, if you don't live nearby. Ultimately, if you haven't tried Dearborn Sweets, I'd highly recommend giving them a shot. They have tons of middle eastern specialties as well as traditional bakery favorites (such as cannoli, fruit tarts, filled donuts, cakes, etc.). read more

I have had their sweets a few times. They a good variety of sweets as well as custom cakes too. My team member periodically likes to bring some treats and sweets from here in boxes too. I have had a variety of their baklavas and other middle eastern sweets as well as their coconut macrons. They individually wrap each coconut macrons, instead of the usual Saran Wrap over the whole tray. Makes it easier to share at work for sure. read more

I had told the young lady how I wanted my custom cake and I said a plain white cake with blue piping on the borders and they give me what you see in the first picture......now why would they embarrass they selves like that. The gold is the same size as the piping mistake number 1 and mistake number 2 nobody said to make it tiny like that....that big cake and all u see is a small line basically of blue like that doesn't even look right and whoever did that should've known Mistake number 3 everyone knows when u hold a cake it needs to be thumb sized I couldn't even take the cake outta the box as u can see in the first picture u see a little gold which is what the cake is sitting on now....come onnnn idk who did this but they need to be fired like really and I went back to say can they fix it and bc I'm not about to leave unsatisfied when it's custom and when I had told my sister to pick it up for me they had the nerve so make her pay extra???? This is the worst birthday cake I have ever received. The decorations were terrible, and the piping was uneven. I went here on the recommendation of two lovely young women I happened to meet while having lunch at Urban Ramen in downtown Detroit. One of them is the daughter of one of the employees at Dearborn Sweets. I was hoping to find really delicious baklava, as I had previously learned the best baklava is found in Dearborn. Holy cow....I have tried a lot of different things in my life, but this baklava is beyond delicious, it makes me speechless. I bought the smaller box and I have to admit, this stuff really challenges the brain's 'delayed gratification' function I'm supposed to have as an adult. We've bought cakes from here for all of our work events (birthdays, graduations, going away parties) and each cake and/or sweets we've had have been delicious! I wasn't that impressed with their wedding *services*. I was told they delivered for free, but then upon ordering found out they charged, so I had my cousin pick up. They also don't have a great set up for tastings (they have one table and it was taken, so we had to stand. They should really add more tables). But the cakes are great and our cake turned out how we wanted and was delicious. Also, they are UNBEATABLE, BY FAR, for the price. Like anywhere else, my cake would have been HUNDREDS more. A great place to pick up affordable treats. There are tons of tarts, cannolis, cream puffs, cakes and other baked goods. I'm Armenian, so I did recognize some baklava on my first visit. Most individual sweets are $1 apiece! One complaint is they do not offer brownies! I think any dessert shop should have an American classic. One star down for that. I for sure will not drive that fair to toss them at them but upset enough to almost do that. My day was ruined because of them being lairs.
