The moment you step in you're greeted with a wonderful, grand space bustling with staff and customers. The Kunafa Kaak (8.5/10) is my least favorite out of Masri and Shatila, particularly due to the Kaak. However, I would immediately recommend Shatila for the Ashta Ice cream, the pistachio and mango flavors were absolutely fantastic and refreshing. read more

picked up my cake here for my birthday it was a little chaotic. We seemed to visit at a busy time but the staff was friendly and the cakes here are delicious. I can't wait to pick up another cake from here. I love that you can just walk in and pick out a cake, of course they do custom orders but if you get there fairly early in the day you have quite the selection I had a hard time choosing which cake read more

I always knew I would visit Shatila whenever I came to Michigan, and I am so happy that I finally got to do it. It was really cool to see the different counters that they have inside. On the day we went, the line for the drinks and ice cream was the longest but wasn't too bad to get through (maybe 5-10mins at most). I was super excited to see all the different baklava and Middle Eastern pastries on display and to be able to pick out an assortment to share with my family. I loved everything, but a special mention to the pistachio fingers, which are a classic and always a favorite. read more

There are about 9 million bakeries in a two block radius, but if you're only going to hit one...this is the one. It's like walking into a fairy tale - the big round seating area with palm trees and lights, the ice cream, juice, and coffee counter...AND THE PASTRIES. It's like a museum of every delicious thing that has ever existed. Make sure to check out the full line of cases, because there are no repeats - each one is different! Whether you're having a little treat there or taking it to go, they will make it special. The knafeh to go comes in a little styrofoam tray with a cup of syrup and a tiny ziploc of ground pistachio. All for less than the price of some god awful chain bakery cookie. read more

Dropped in for some baklava!! Love all the variety and that it's the same price per piece. It's not super sweet and dripping with honey. I loved it. They even made some with cashew which I've never had before. read more

Finally tried the famous baklava place everyone raves about living in the Midwest. This place is so impressive with the amount of options they have in addition to French desserts. I bought a half tray for my family plus some assorted ones to try on the side. This place is a little chaotic with the amount of people in there. You start with getting a ticket by the door and you have to wait to order when you hear your number. This wasn't super clear so thought I'd add it as a tip! read more

Shatila Bakery is a Detroit classic--everyone knows their pastries are unreal. The house-made chocolate, kanafe, and ice creams are all incredible, and you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. But somehow, not enough people talk about my absolute favorite thing--the Ashta fruit cups! They're so good. The only downside is that they sell out sometimes, so they're not always available. But if you see them, do yourself a favor and grab one! read more

2025 Update: They still taste great, they still seem to get annoyed with any basic questions like, "What are the little pockets filled with?" And customer service still seems pretty quick. We will easily drop a hundred, minimum, each time with visit, which is multiple times during our annual michigan trip. The baklava is the best in the country, the ice cream rivals any ice cream place I've been to, and the bakery and cakes area is so beautiful they look like works of art. Will I endure eyes being rolled at to our family and keep giving them my money despite the annoyance of the people who work here? Absolutely I will. read more

Went to Michigan for a wedding and was craving some sweets. Searched this place on yelp and saw great ratings . Definitely worth the visit and very wet designed. This place was amazing. The people here were very friendly and very helpful. I like that it was very organized as well. It was a nice size and looks like a fun place to stay and eat. The prices were great as well. We got four mini cakes and a plate of cookies. Those cookies are my favorites and they had a great variety here. My husband said it was one of the better tiramisus for a bakery. I definitely want to return to this location. read more

I love coming to Shatila's! There's always a line but don't worry your number gets called up pretty fast, so just take the time to look over all the suites and figure out what you might want. Visited here on a Saturday night at 10pm last week and the place was CROWDED! Service is fast here even with so many people visiting. It's a Mediterranean bakery with lots of space to sit and eat. They have shakes, ice cream and coffee as well. When you enter you have to grab a token # and then place your order. Then a person helps you out with everything that you need from behind the counter. Then you can go to the cash counter and pay and pick up your order. Their fruit cakes are quite well know for birthday parties. read more

Shatila used to be great quality and service. Although, over the last few years as they seem to have been getting "bigger" the quality has significantly decreased. The knafa falls apart right away. The cakes have a very bland taste as if very cheap ingredients are used. It's not what it used to be unfortunately. Also, the lady at the check out counter wasn't very kind. read more

AMAZING value for the baklava boxes (and I love how they package it for easy shipping/ transport via plane if needed). Honestly couldn't believe the quality and quantity I got for a half box order (less than $20). My only main gripe was the ordering process is a bit confusing ( you have to take a ticket and wait for them to call you before you are served). Must visit place if you love baklava and other middle eastern desserts! read more

If you want to experience discrimination, come here. I took two numbers and waited patiently while multiple other customers were helped ahead of me. Each time my number should have been called, it was skipped. I asked for assistance several times, and all three employees behind the counter told me to "wait" while they stood there talking. It was frustrating and embarrassing. I am a Christian Catholic and was wearing a cross necklace that was clearly visible. The staff looked directly at me multiple times, including at my cross, and still continued to skip over me. Whether intentional or not, the situation made me feel singled out and discriminated against because of my faith. No customer should ever feel that way when walking into a business. read more

Visited here on a friend's recommendation, and also after seeing it on Padma Lakshmi's "Taste the Nation." WOW. For starters, the cafe is super clean and attractive with live palms and lots of light. The counter is divided between French and Middle Eastern pastries, both absolutely gorgeous. SO many choices, it was nearly impossible to make decisions. We wanted a taste of authentic Middle Eastern items - mostly variations of flaky phyllo dough, nuts and honey. The server's English was a bit limited, which made ordering a tiny bit challenging. I would have loved signage explaining each confection, but I certainly appreciate that I'm not the main audience and this place is really intended to serve the local Middle Eastern community. After my kiddo and I assembled a box of sweet and savory items (for only $13!!!! WHAT???), I grabbed a coffee and we simply sat and nibbled to our hearts' content. The baklava seemed to be a signature offering, but my favorite was a deep-fried doughy empanada-ish item that tasted like a honey-soaked donut filled with cheese. So amazing. My kiddo loved the savory sesame za-atar manakish flatbread. Highly recommend. read more

Sweet dreams are made of SHATILA! The best baklava around. For first timers, there are no lines. Make sure to take a ticket when you walk in and listen for your number to be called, or look towards the ceiling in the middle of the bakery shelves where there's a small screen displaying what number they're on. Don't be alarmed if the current number seems far away from the number on your ticket. It moves pretty fast, even on busy days. The system has been this was as long as I can remember, and seems like it really works for them. Find the person who calls your number and they will help you select and package up your treats. Today I found out they have an assortment of sugar-free baklava as well! The sugar substitute they use is lycasin (maltitol syrup). This is a nice alternative option for people who can't digest sugar well. There's also ice cream, both in cones and to take home in large cartons, and cakes, both full size and individual pieces. There's seating inside if you want to break into your goodies right away. A box of Shatila makes an excellent gift as well! read more

We were visiting Michigan and wanted to bring back some sweets for our friends. We got the sweets and packed them in our suitcase (which was of course thrown around in the airport) so we were dreading the worst when we opened the sweets' paper bag. But we were shocked to see that none of the sweets even shifted, let alone broke, during the trip. Check out the pictures of the sweets before and after unpacking! We also loved the lighting and decor, very well coordinated. read more

Very tasty, but I definitely didn't know what I was ordering. Some of the desserts weren't as good as others or to my taste. The sweet cake wasn't my favorite. I should have done more research about middle eastern desserts. Service was good though and they gave us ones to try that were highly recommended. The interior was cute with large natural light and windows. And, it shares seating with the connected smoothie/ ice cream bar. I highly recommended the baklava! read more

This place is great! Lots of incredible selection and very reasonably priced. I really recommend trying to visit late or early in the day because it gets PACKED and it's hard to get attention because they don't really utilize the numbered tickets even though they want you to take one so you sort of have to make your presence known and fight for the attention. Parking lot has ample spots and plenty of seating inside. You won't regret visiting, you just gotta figure out a way to secure the goods read more

Shatila Bakery in Dearborn is an absolute must try if you're visiting Michigan! Be prepared for a mass of people as soon as you walk through the door. This place is always busy... and for good reason! The middle eastern pastries here are DIVINE. I recently discovered that they have different desserts made in slightly different methods to reflect how they are traditionally prepared in various Arab countries. My favorite things to get are the pastries made with dates, pistachio and walnuts! During Ramadan and other Muslim holidays they have an even broader selection!! All of the pastries are baked to perfection and always so fresh and flavorful. I also really love their ice cream! They offer very unique flavors such as rose water and pistachio, and incorporate ingredients that are part of their traditional pastries. Despite the inevitable crowd, the service is always super fast and you're usually able to order shortly after picking up a ticket and waiting in line. There's also plenty of seating which makes it a great spot fora coffee date. The one thing I don't like about this bakery is their French inspired / more "American" desserts. The cakes that I've tried have been dense, dry, lacking in flavor and sometimes even seemed a bit stale or old. That's the only reason why I'm not giving this place 5 stars. read more

The Baklava here is amazing. I stop here every time I am in Michigan and recently just found out you can order the Baklava online, but nothing will beat the freshness and variety of coming to the bakery. Shatila is a must if you're ever visiting Metro Detroit! They have the best, authentic Middle Eastern pastries. So good and renowned for their treats, I've seen them sold at Plum Markets far away from Dearborn. Shatila is usually packed on weekends. The last time I went was a weeknight and not really a line. My favorites to order are the baklava, mamoul, and knafeh. I really appreciate how they pack a separate, small container of the syrup for the knafeh so it doesn't get soggy before you're ready to eat it. I love the interior of Shatila - there are tall palm trees and lights that make for a cozy ambiance to enjoy your sweets under. One day, I would love to try one of their very decadent looking cakes. I was impressed by the decorating on this gorgeous cake the last time I visited, especially the large white chocolate peony on top (see pic). Love Shatila, will definitely be back! read more

I love this place! You gotta remember to take a number when you enter. Nothing is labeled with what it is or how much it costs, but I wouldn't know what it was even if it was labeled, it all looks good, and everything is pretty inexpensive. Anytime I'm in Dearborn, I always make it a point to stop by Shatila if I have the time! This is the best bakery around and if you haven't been, you definitely need to check it out. They have so many goodies - their many variations of baklava being my favorite! But they also have a lot of French-inspired pastries as well. This Shatila location - I'd consider this their main location - has a "food court" looking seating area in the center for if you want to eat your pastries there. I normally take my pastries to go though. Shatila has been around as long as I can remember and has always been a staple in this area. My parents worked for Ford growing up, so any time there was a celebration of some sort, you could easily bet that some Shatila goodies would be present! Because they have been around for so long, they are a well oiled machine. They have a ticketing system for their queue where you grab a ticket and wait for your number to be called. When my friend and I stopped in, our tickets were in the early 30s. They were still in the 80s calling numbers (it went 99 to 0), so there were approximately 50ish customers still to go. This seemed like A LOT and it definitely is, but everyone has a similar idea and some might not want to wait, so what ended up happening for us is by the time they got back to 0, a lot of the people within 0 to 10 had left, so within a matter of a minute, they were at number 10 already. So my friend and I decided to wait around and we probably ended up spending maybe a little over 30 minutes here? Certainly under an hour. There are many employees taking customers at the same time, so the numbers tick up relatively quickly! And at the end of the day, Shatila goodies are WELL worth the wait! read more
