Most of the food was exceptional, my group and I really enjoyed the brussel sprouts, buffalo chicken bites, shishito peppers, and the crispy rice with tuna. Our first visit to Dear Maude for Sunday brunch. Made reservations for 10am when restaurant opened. It was cold and we parked quite a few blocks away! So we were happy when we arrived at 9:50am- the doors were opened and we were welcomed in! We were seated in a booth- party of four. The music was playing a bit loud, making it hard to hold a conversation. About 20 minutes later, the music volume was lowered and we could talk comfortably. Great music selection! Saturday brunch was so delicious! The vibe here is so cute and cozy decorated with lights and not very bright inside. We sat very close to 2 others which made us a bit uncomfortable but service was so fast we were then left with some privacy after the two groups left. I ordered the avocado toast (4/5) which was so delicious, great amount of avocado and flavor. I would've loved another poached egg but for playing purposes I can see why it's only one. Arugula salad was a nice touch with it and the home fries were good, too (3.5/5). Ugh to say we were disappointed is an understatement after hearing so many good things. Maybe it is our fault for coming for dinner instead of just coming expecting to get a couple cocktails. The place itself has a great vibe and is a fun place to be in and can see why it is so popular. The cocktails were also really good, we had the lychee me up and the spicy margarita but that is where the positives end. We started with the shishito peppers and chicken bao buns. The shishito peppers were fine but nothing special and the bao buns only had a small amount of chicken in it. For the price of these, I would expect more. We also got the steak frites and the sweet salty spicy flatbread. The steak in the steak frites was ice cold. It was strange that the steak was the food that was cold over anything else as I would expect this to be the longest to take to cook. The flat bread was good but nothing special like the appetizers. Like I said in the beginning, maybe it's our fault for coming for dinner instead of just cocktails as it felt like they were just serving bar food at an inflated price. Aesthetic wise this restaurant takes the cake. It's absolutely beautiful inside and the way it was decorated for the holidays had me in awe. It's definitely a trendy place and I can see why you would want to go here. However, this is my second time back and I wanted to wait and try their food before reviewing since the first time I went was on NYE and I know the bar staff was under pressure. However, I'm not fully sold. The service at the bar is okay, nothing to brag about especially since the last time I dined, there weren't many patrons at the bar. I will say the bar holds about 34 seats and on a night like NYE it must have been extremely stressful, but an empty day the service shouldn't really lack. The drinks were okay, nothing to brag about. I had the Margarita Picante, which is their take on an spicy marg. It was pretty probably my favorite. I also had their version of an espresso martini and I wasn't really a fan. I also had the hot apple pie, which wasn't really that great it was super sweet which I expected but it also just tasted like warm apple juice. My partner had the apple old fashioned and he wasn't impressed either. We ordered the bao buns (one chicken and one shrimp) off their happy menu (Mon- Fri till 7 - which is nice if you work late like me) and they were $3 a bun. They were flavorful and filled with meat. My only complaint is the bao bun itself not the filling- I didn't love the texture or flavor of the bao bun, but considering that this is not their specialty they were pretty good. I heard on certain nights it gets PACKED! The drink options are quite tasty. Handcrafted cocktails that give your taste buds some fun. The food on the other hand... complete opposite. Tried some items and they underwhelmed. Buffalo chicken tasted generic. I could have gotten this at a fast food joint. Also had the nachos (no pic)... don't do it. The Fried Chicken Sandwich was our favorite, the chicken was fried perfectly. The others, Buffalo Chicken Bites, Sweet Salty Spicy Flatbread and Crispy Rice & Spicy Tuna were good but not amazing. I also had a Iryna's Lavender cocktail, which was delicious. I really like that the ice cube isn't just water but the actual drink so it doesn't water down the drink. We had the poached eggs, steak and eggs and the buttermilk pancakes. The chimichurri from the steak and eggs and the dressing on the arugula salad from the poached eggs could use a pinch more vinegar and salt - I felt they went a bit safe... but still delicious... NO complaints. The pancakes with almond butter were LEGENDARY. I also love that they have a low key, sophisticated Irish vibe without being cliche and stereotypical. I will say that it's so much more of a creative concept than the places that have been in this location before so hopefully it improves overtime. It's often crowded and attracts a younger crowd that tends to be a bit on the loud side so if you're looking for a nice night out, this is not the place. The food is pretty decent. Definitely a lot of variety of options but nothing that is stand out spectacular. One of the nights I was there I ordered the charcuterie board and when they brought it out I asked them if they forgot the other half in the back Haha. Probably the most frustrating part of the experience there is service. It's hard to get a drink at the bar and when you're sitting at a table it's very easy for you to be forgotten.
