Visiting Stoughton, someone suggested Deaks for lunch. It was a Monday, a little before noon, when we arrived. We parked in the lot and were a little confused about where the entrance was. There really isn't a clear "front" door -- you enter through what looks like the back, next to a fenced-off area for the air conditioner. Inside, it feels like a typical pub, with a large bar area, video poker games (not a fan), and several different seating areas. Since it was a nice day, we chose a spot outside (we were the only ones there). We were greeted right away by our server, who brought waters and drinks. The menu has a good selection of items. We ordered the Cowboy Burger (on Texas Toast) and a Steak Quesadilla. It didn't take long for the food to arrive, and everything was hot, flavorful, and served in generous portions. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium. The homemade potato chips were very good and served warm. The tortilla chips were also warm -- a nice touch. The quesadilla had a good amount of filling with the steak, though a few pieces were a little tough or gristly. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, and we had enough leftovers to take home. We came here as a group twice during our visit to the area. Once for dinner and once for lunch the next day. There were five us during each visit. Both times we were seated right away and by coincidence at the same table. The service was great on both visits. Nancy, who took care of us for the dinner visit was very helpful and attentive. We each ordered different things of which I have added some pictures. We also had appetizers before dinner. I have added some of those pictures as well, a few after we had dug in. I ordered the 10 inch thin crust pizza with pepperoni and sausage for dinner and the Cowboy burger for lunch the next day. There were no complaints from any of us and we enjoyed everything during both visits. The pizza is a think crust which is not what I prefer but it hit the spot and I had a few slices leftover for the hotel. I thought the Cowboy burger was very delicious. The Buffalo chicken dip appetizer was also very tasty. This is a place we would return to again if in the area. They also have slot machines where you can try your luck. read more

They've changed their menu to include more options. They have a seasonal menu in addition. Seems like they are trying to side with more of a culinary flair than the sports bar it was originally intended to be. It's ehhh.... Now they serve sandwiches/wraps with chips and you need to pay extra for fries or other side options. You also should bring cash-- they charge the typical 3% fee for credit card purchases. Finally completed their outdoor patio area. The poles attaching their sunshade was in disrepair and left for several months (we live nearby and couldn't believe they didn't at least try to take it down or help the appearance until insurance took care of it). read more

My wife and I love their carry out option! Tonight we called our order in and it was ready for pickup in 10 minutes. Very convenient for a weekday pickup option in Stoughton. We got the MVP wrap +add Fried chicken with waffle fries and the large wings HQ BBQ + Jerk with waffle fries. Their waffle fries (as you can see) are a must try. Great service and food. read more

We came here for a dinner with family from out of the area. We were seated quickly and our waiter came shortly after. They have a bar area and additional seating too. They have a nice patio area which would be enjoyable during the summer months! I got the Pesto Chicken Sandwich with curly fries. It was very tasty with the basil cheese. Others got the Bucky burger and cowboy burger and both with sweet potato fries. Both menu items were good choices! We would go back again for more. read more

He suggested I go for the HQ sandwich- a mix of pulled pork and brisket with BBQ sauce and cole slaw on a grilled Telera roll. I'm so glad I listened because it was fantastic. I chose potato chips as my side and they were also a wise choice. I was just visiting Stoughton for a day so won't be able to return to Deak's often but it will be at the top of my list for the next time I'm in the area. read more

Visiting for the holiday and saw this was recommended. I checked out the menu and was happy to see many choices for all family members. However, it was just my husband and myself who ended up going in for lunch. I had the baked cod with some slaw and he had chicken pesto sandwich. The best part were the in house kettle chips. The hint of garlic and crispness were right on! Also the atmosphere is casual and fun. It is a bar and a grill but suitable for all ages for lunch and dinner. We love Deak's and eat there once per week. We like: - the TV's which display many sporting events - a multitude of their menu options - the game side of the room which keeps kids busy They have a side room with an awesome garage door entry and, inside, has 2 garage doors which open to an inviting patio. BONUS: This room can be reserved for a large group or party! We reserved it for my birthday and there was NO reservation fee. We only had to meet/pass $500 in sales. They allowed us to bring in our own cake as well as a Bluetooth speaker so we could play our choice of music instead of hearing the music played in the main room. (*Not sure if these conditions still apply). We limited guests to appetizers and offered a full bar. The party lasted 5 hours and our bill was surprisingly reasonable, even though my friends imbibe a lot :). The total was around $550 and with the bartender's tip of $150, he was dedicated to our party and really hustled to provide excellent service, total cost was close to $700 (= an insanely low average of $14/person with 50+ people in attendance)! read more

Our fried cheese curds, fried perch dinner and fried cod dinner were the very best that we've had **anywhere** in Stoughton, and the table service was ponderously slow, impersonal, and indifferent. My family and I visited Deak's on Friday night at about 6:30pm for dinner and we did not leave until nearly 8pm. Located just a block to the east of the intersection of Highway 51 and Roby Road (off of the first roundabout when entering Stoughton from the north), the restaurant and bar were busy, but not filled. Seemed like lots of the patrons were having fun, laughing and talking, and the overall noise levels were not excessively loud. Fun atmosphere, huge bar, smallish self-serve salad bar. Lots of big-screen TVs, a dart machine, other game machines off on one side of the main dining area. In warmer weather, Deak's has a nice outdoor patio area with a gas fire pit. We were seated promptly and the wait staff took our drink orders right away & delivered them to our table relatively quickly. It seemed to me that we waited quite a long time to get to order our meals, and when we did, we ordered an appetizer, beer-battered cheese curds, and our meals at the same time. The appetizer arrived and our crew of 4 wolfed it down quickly - easily the best cheese curds in Stoughton, in our collective opinion. One of my kids ordered the breaded jumbo wings plate, the other ordered grilled shrimp, my partner ordered the fried perch dinner, and I ordered the fried cod dinner. Once served, our food was hot and very tasty. The fish dinners were amazing - very, very good breading on the perch and truly excellent beer batter on the cod. A nice plus: the fish fillets were placed on the plate on top of a couple of pieces of green leaf lettuce, which helped keep the breading/batter crispy and not soggy. One negative, and fitting with the "don't-care, don't want to be here" feel of the table service provided: the wings were served with a paper tub of ranch dressing that seemed to have been carelessly plopped onto the plate, and seemed to have sloshed onto some of the wings - the same sort of thing happened with the cheese curds, as well. The only problem with this is my son **hates** ranch dressing and so refused to eat the wings that had been "contaminated" by the ranch dressing. After our meals, my kids were up for dessert, and so we ordered the "funnel cake fries", a deliciously gooey, sticky, and yummy delight, and it was devoured quickly. Then we waited, and waited, and waited for our bill. Once delivered, we waited, and waited, and waited for the server to return to take payment. When that did not happen after about 10 minutes, we got up to pay at the register. At the register was a person keying in orders; when I approached, they did not acknowledge my presence or ask if I needed any assistance, and so I waited patiently, thinking that they would eventually turn and offer help - that didn't happen. Eventually, our server noticed me standing there, took payment, and we left. Overall, the food was very good and the table service was very slow. We will definitely come here again for the food, but we'll know better what to expect for table service. read more

Waited for refills on our drinks for an excessive amount of time especially considering that it wasn't very busy. We were not offered any compensation or anything for the poor food and service. The food is ok, the beer selection is good. Here are my issues: The bartenders are cliquish, good luck if you're not a regular. It's a sports bar that knows little about sports- all TVs on a recent trip for breakfast were playing a college game from the previous night instead of a NFL game that was live and it took 2 people and 20+ minutes to have 1 TV changed. My husband went with a few people for the first MNF game of the year and all TVs but 1 were showing Dancing with the Stars. Our wait staff have always been good so I am sad to say I vowed on my latest frustrating trip here to never go back. We'll have to keep searching for our regular sports bar. Boo read more

This place is a hidden gem! I thought it was just a bar with "bar food". That's not a bad thing. I like bar food just as much as the next person, however, this is not just bar food!! I have been here several times and have not had one thing that I I did not love! The menu is varied and has lovely seasonal choices available. The salad bar is excellent and the soups have been super tasty! The restaurant /bar is casual, clean and the staff has always been pleasant and attentive! Now, I'll just admit, I am super picky about my fish fry. I like several places in the Madison area, however I LOVE the Friday fish fry at Deak's. Everything about it takes me back to my childhood when the fish was so wonderful! I had the Perch and there were 5 large pieces of it, battered and perfectly cooked. My fiancé had the cod which he said was wonderful, but when he tasted my Perch he decided that he would definitely be ordering that next time. And there will be many more next times!!! read more

Dean's gets 5 stars on the sole reason that their food is amazing. Best deep fried mushrooms and chicken strips. Best wings and cheese curds. You name it, we've tried it. I believe today was the first day that dining inside was available at 25% capacity. It was not too busy initially, but it started picking up by the end. Food was above average, salmon was very delicious. Hostess and the wait staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food came out very quickly and after finishing up it did not feel like we were being rushed out. Prices are reasonable for the area. Only negative was there was no ketchup or mustard bottles, sanitary reasons obviously. But when I asked for ketchup for our fries you should bring more than 2 packets for 2 people. The Good: Our kids said the Cowboy Burger and Boneless Wings were good. The Bad: They charge a credit card convenience fee (yes, really!), so you might want to bring cash. Our server was awful. He was nowhere to be found on a non-busy Monday night. He was also rude, messed up our order and messed up our bill. (A very lovely employee noticed that we had been done with our meal for 15 minutes and offered to get him for us. Thank you!) They had a Bravo show playing on their speakers. Not sure which one it was but there were half naked girls screaming and getting drunk which was a bit obnoxious. We were confused by this because it's a sports bar and there was a basketball game on. The bathrooms were gross. One of the plates they gave us was dirty. The menus were sticky and beaten up. Our pizza was awful. Our salad's only vegetable was the lettuce and was piled with bacon and slathered with dressing (up to you if that's a good or bad thing!) Adding to the terrible experience was the employee sitting at the bar and getting drunk. She was loudly and repeatedly saying f**k while sitting next to our table with young kids. If she's off duty and wasted she shouldn't go behind the bar - that's how we knew she worked there. Worst $70 we've spent in a long time. read more

This is your average sports bar, with a large food menu. They recently went through a renovation which really improved the atmosphere. They now have outdoor seating, 2 bars, and a banquet/party room. The menu hasn't changed much, but the beer selection grew! I am impressed with the large micro-brew selection that is always changing. The food is average, but there are a few items that I do enjoy. The cheese curds are delicious, especially the buffalo ones. Although I would prefer if they were more spicy. I am bummed that one of my favorite appetizers was recently removed from the menu (it was basically bbq pork on freshly made potato chips). The house smoked wings have too much breading and tend to be soggy after they add sauce. If you are looking for a place to have a beer while watching a sporting event (football, basketball, hockey, or baseball) this is a great option. Save yourself some $$, skip the food and order a decent beer instead. read more

Desks is definitely struggling to get back going. Had a 10" pizza last night and it had a soggy pre- bought crusty (very obvious). Hubby had the deep fried cod, which is usually very good but was not; what was the worst was the service. Oh, also my mom got the same thing as the hubby but she got no fries - tried to let waitress know but after about 4 times of trying to flag her down, gave up. I realize it's a hard time to staff right now but the waitress acted totally harassed, didn't smile once, and rarely came back. Won't be back for a looong time. read more

Sorry Deak's but this one is not a star for the playbook. We were in for the Badger game (vs OSU 10/2016) and we were really let down. Not Deak's fault: bar was loud. It's game day. I get that. The crowd was a little rowdy and not much fun to be around. We were there for the game, but this was worse than expected for any sports bar. Lots of bar pounding and yelling. I know, sounds like whining, but it wasn't fun. We were there to cheer on the Badgers and found it to be a real distraction. Deak's: the douche next to be was vaping. Is that even legal inside? Whatever. It added to an unpleasant evening. The food was good. The beer was cold. The service was much lower than we were used to. Brian was there and good as ever, but they needed another bartender, or at least one who worked the bar to help Brian out. It was a crowd that could be handled by two Brians or, one and two shmoes instead of the one shmoe that was trying to help. read more

How do you know you are in a smaller than average town? When you walk in and everyone in the place turns around and looks at you. As I was walking looking for an open table, I kept on thinking, "You don't know me and I don't know you so let's leave it at that". We stopped in on a Friday night for a fish fry and the place was packed to the "gills" (no pun attended). We were able to secure the last available table and waited a few while the servers figured out who was assigned to our table. Their menu is pretty straight forward as it relates to bar food with a few fish options to choose from on Fridays. Special props goes to them as they make all their appetizers in house. I was equally impressed with their beer selection. While their servers really weren't familiar with the different breweries and styles (I was handed the hand written list and description), luckily I am no stranger to malt beverages and picked out a 3 Sheeps on nitro while my girlfriend went with a belgian. For our entrees, I selected cod while she veered towards the Ahi Tuna. Yes, we were on the fence regarding the freshness and quality of the tuna at a sports bar but we threw caution to the wind and went with it. While the dishes were great, they were not bad as well. Both suffered a bit from being overcooked. The batter on the cod tasted great but the fish suffered a bit from dryness. The Ahi, ordered rare, came out more medium. Credit to the server for noticing when my girlfriend bit into it but since we were in a rush (and since it still tasted good), she decided not to send it back. I am not a frequent visitor to Stoughton but if I was back in the area, I wouldn't object from visiting again. Even if it was just to grab a beer or two as I think this is the area in which the bar shines. read more

This place was recommended and I was not disappointed! The fish fry was excellent and the clam chowder was quite delicious! My daughter had a steak sandwich and the cut of steak was awesome. Not the usual thin slice of ribeye which was refreshing. We had excellent service by Helene! Which we found out was there working an extra shift to help out which also says a lot about the establishment. We will back to try some of the other food! I have to apologize for forgetting our bartender's name. For the three hours we were there and she was entertaining us, that's my fault. Boo. Anyway, Deak's isn't exactly reinventing the wheel here. It's a bar with tv's, a pool table, happy hour and standard bar menu at typical pricing. The four of us piled through some late night eating as I worked on upping my alcohol intake while home on leave. We did the chips and salsa, which were really good (a giant bowl of thick salsa is always welcome) and the app sampler (huge plate of breaded fried things, chips, salsa and bruschetta) to start. Pretty huge, tasted like it may have been breaded there (as opposed to something straight from the Sysco freezer) and didn't take long. We also ordered sandwiches, which is the part that made me really like our bartender. I asked her opinion on which would be the best choice between the club melt or the cuban. I always like cuban sammiches, but, we're at a bar in Stoughton, so, who knows? She made a face about the cuban and said it was too much pork in one sandwich (blasphemy, right?) and said she liked the club better. So, I got the club, Stacy got a chicken thing, we all had a laugh and giant discussion about the merits of different meats, and forgot about it once the apps came. Then the sammies came out, and she had to apologize. In her intense dislike of the cuban, she had ordered that and the club instead of Stacy's chicken thing. Our friend Mel thought that should mean I'd get a taste of the cuban at least, since they'd made it (but didn't bring it out) and I said that, working in a kitchen, that it'd be devoured by staff most likely. But no, our bartender wrapped it to go for me as a bonus. How nice of her! Take that, plus her knowing which taps I wanted to try before I asked (which was a pretty cool trick) and her patience with our friend's fascination with cherry bombs and inappropriate sexual discussions, and know that I genuinely like this place.
