Great spot for some great espresso drinks!

I stopped in right at closing-a little after - and they were so sweet - he unlocked the door and made me an iced raspberry mocha. Oh. My. God was it good. I wish I would've taken a pic but I slurped it up too fast. I bought a cool tshirt because their name is pretty epic and the material was soft and good quality. Next time I'm in town I'll be popping in to try their food, which looked delicious from the menu. Lots of options! And I love the brick building and cozy atmosphere inside. I'll definitely be back before closing time!

Yelp menu is incorrect! Went in to order a potato breakfast burrito and was told that wasn't on the menu since 2016! Cashier was a blunt man, telling me that they have no control over the Yelp listing and that Yelp had actually stolen money from the business. I looked over the menu and ordered the breadless option, which I think is called the lavish. Pictured below. I'm not the best at figuring if a meal is a good price, the lavish was 9$ and seemingly a two egg wrap with two slices of bacon with cheddar cheese, tomatoes and pepperoncini. Loved the bite with the pepperoncini. Usual saltiness from bacon and cheddar was nice. Lacked flavor otherwise. Boring. The business itself, though, is not boring. The large space is full with literary pictures and references, and with more than half of a dozen patrons dining in- the space was peaceful.

LOVED this coffee shop! The interior is so cute and clean. The staff is friendly. My son had dropped his egg and the cook came back with one for him without even having to ask he was so kind!!! The bagels are sooo good and the coffee is even better! Love this spot 10/10

Hip coffee house located in downtown Moline. It feels like it doesn't belong here because it's too cool, for real. Dead Poet's Espresso has a literature theme going on with Shakespeare and other famous figures. For sure it's good for book nerds. There's also food like bagels and pastries. Came in the morning to get a buzz. It has a list of specialty coffees. These are all made with milk powder so I skipped these. Instead got a latte. It's about $5 for a medium. Then add a bit more for non dairy milk and syrup. Also got a bagel. It's about $3 with a spread. Has cream cheese of course. There's also peanut butter and jelly. Good stop in at breakfast. It's one of the hipper places in town to be honest. This is only open in the morning and afternoons, and it's closed on Sundays.

Very friendly staff, nice quiet place, we did come at 2 PM. Salad was fresh and tasty. The coffee was good.

As I've walked around Moline, it's a weird feeling that I was the only person on the streets. It seems deserted and so a visit to Dead Poet's Espresso seemed appropriate. While waiting for my espresso and Sweet Southwest Breakfast Wrap (eggs, corn mix, pepperoncini, chipotle cheese curds wrapped in a tomato basil tortilla), I enjoyed the images of dead poets like William Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe drinking coffee. The latte was well made. The wrap was creative and filling but it needs some fine tuning on the sauce. Although I was the only patron, I took a look at the piano in the corner and imagined that, at least sometimes, this cafe must fill up with music and people.

Super friendly employee who suggested a sandwich I probably never would have ordered and it was delicious! I loved the sweet potato chips served with it too. I came for an early lunch and beat the lunch rush, but it did get busy. During the peak time a man played the piano for patrons, adding to the ambiance. While I ate inside as I need to do some work and have wifi access, there are tables outside that look out on a nice courtyard type area. Easy parking too. Next time I'm in town I will go again!

Still the best! Always one of our first stops when we're in the area. The coffee and breakfast sandwiches are delicious! Cozy ambiance with indoor and outdoor seating. Love when they have someone playing the piano indoors!

We were passing through and I needed a latte. Dead Poet's Espresso caught my eye, mostly because I loved the name. It was a cute little place along the river. There were a few couples enjoying coffee and conversation. The piano caught my eye when I walked in and expect they host live music at times. The latte was good and service efficient. I also got a scone (warmed) and that was just ok. Atmosphere was awesome. Fun stop.

Pretty cool ambiance. Loved the pianist playing for the morning coffee crowd. We spent 20 minutes trying to ID the poets whose portraits hang on the walls. Guessed some correctly but missed others. Having poetry books for customers to read is a nice touch. read more

Alright, as much as I tried to like this place I was disappointed. When we walked in the door on a Saturday afternoon. The minute we entering we heard someone behind the counter yell "Dad, the counter".. we saw an older gentlemen come to the register and he wasn't very pleasant at all, he acted annoyed we were there. After ordering we still received attitude from him as he asked if I needed room for cream in my coffee and I didn't hear him and he says it as he looks at me like I'm an idiot. We paid and went on our way. I must say the coffee was pretty good and they keep your cold Coffee cold by using coffee ice cubes which is rare. I came here with a friend after we got done walking around by the river and visiting some shops. It was the perfect place to relax, and we immediately had a table even though there were a lot of people in the cafe. We both got tea, and it was excellent and had a cute spoon rest/tea bag rest that was leaf shaped. The food options sounded delicious, but we did not get them. I would love to visit again! The only thing I would say is that the hours are hard when you work an 8-5 Monday through Friday yourself. However, you can always go on Saturday! read more

This is the first place I bought a cup of coffee when I moved to the Quad Cities and now I can't imagine getting through a workday without it. Deat Poet's serves really good coffee - that's all there is to it. Every coffee drink they make is tasty and provides that much needed mid-day jolt I've come to rely on. The coffee selection is nothing out of the ordinary, but that's fine. You've got your lattes, mochas, and other frilly things, along with your always hot and fresh brewed coffees. They also have a few non-coffee drinks, but I tend to leave those alone, because honestly, who would go for non-coffee when there is coffee at the ready? But I digress. There is one downside to this place. It's a bit pricey. A big mocha or something equivalent will run you close to $5. Usually it's worth it, but it's something to think about. read more

Yum. Very nice, comfortable coffee shop atmosphere. Plus really good coffee. Will be my coffee shop whenever we are in town. BTW - use the address not the map to get there. It's located down by the river place. The yelp map feature has avenue and street flipped, so it's showing a location over near old towne. read more

I was visiting the Quad cities for two weeks in 6/14. I enjoyed the location. The people working there were friendly. The baby grand piano is played during lunch. Their large iced mocha coffee comes standard with 3 shots of espresso. read more

Has been several months since last here. Just got my preferred honey and 6 shot Americano, and is excellent as all previous here. Nice food options available though I haven't had myself. Seeing what other customers have looks real good though. Cool setting here in old downtown area near our hotel. Just right. read more

Heard from a nearby shop keeper at WaterHouse shops that the iced tea and food was amazing here. We both ended up getting iced coffee and it was rich and strong! Best part-ice cubes were frozen coffee so as they melted the drink never got watery! Brilliant! We also got a pound of Highland Grogg. Great experience! read more

Glad I found this comfortable corner cafe. Great self roasted coffee, good wifi, nice comfortable vibe, a grand piano, books of poetry, and Shakespeare on the sign. How can you go wrong? I didn't eat anything but the dishes that I saw looked great, and the employees were awesome. If I'm back in Moline, I'll be back. read more

I discovered this quaint coffee shop after exploring the John Deere Pavilion. I enjoyed the coffee, which is roasted on site, and the portraits of famous dead poets with their steaming mugs of java! There is also free wifi and a grand piano in the corner which adds to the cozy ambience. read more

This was the worst latte I've ever had and made by the unfriendliest barista I've ever encountered. The coffee was so scalding hot that it just tasted burnt. The 'barista' acted as if I was imposing on him for coming into the establishment. I love to support local, independent coffee houses but this one definitely needs some work. read more

Excellent Place, Excellent Coffee. but all the Dead Bodies lying around gets somewhat annoying. It still amazes me how many Poets come here to croak. Floor is literally crawling with them. And all the Live Poets pontificating and searching for the death they deserve. Beyond that I love this place. Maybe someone would like to meet me here this week for Coffee, I will buy and you can bring me a sandwich to share. How about 9am Thursday? It will be fun. read more

IMaps needs to get its act together...this charming place is on the next street south from River (not River as they insist) nestled in a cozy and clean alleyway. They have a wonderful Chickering piano which the proud owner plays during lunch hour, and the food is terrific. read more

Very impressed by this place. Was visiting Moline on business and stopped in for my coffee fix. First impression: Cozy interior, friendly staff, and quick service. Grabbed my latte to go and I knocked it off a ledge outside almost immediately. Went back in fully ready to pay for a second latte due to my mistake, but the barista made me a new one right away for no charge. Would definitely go back here again. Thank you guys! read more

As someone who's invested in English literature, I decided I had to stop in and try out a dead poet-themed coffee shop. Here's what happened: Our barista was pretty rude, but I chalked that up to The Barista Aesthetic, or the air of dismissiveness that some coffee shop employees seem to express toward their coffee-ignorant customers. Though mildly intimidated by the variety of caffeinated beverages, I settled on an iced coffee. My drink was prepared quickly and chilled with COFFEE ICE CUBES, which, at the time, was the first I'd ever had them. Brilliant! The shop, itself, was a cozy and tranquil spot ideal for studying or soft conversation. I seated myself next to a large group of senior citizens and (accidentally) overheard them ridiculing America's youth for their rampant use of social media. Delicious coffee, a portrait of a stoic Emily Dickinson, AND the promise of dirty looks from a gang of aggressively opinionated elders! My time at Dead Poet Espresso really exceeded expectations. 4/5 stars. read more

I was relieved to see that Dead Poets was still here. It is still the best place in the area for espresso drinks. I hadn't stayed in the downtown area for a number of years, but this was my breakfast spot every visit. The quality remains high, and the baked goods still look wonderful. read more

Very good coffee (I got a white chocolate mocha) and good food as well. The chicken salad was great, and their potato soup was pretty good. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because it was a little expensive. A large mocha and a half sandwich and soup combo came to over $13. That doesn't include the pastry I got after. read more

Better than most places in the QCA. The service was nice, but a few things stuck in my craw. 1) The coffee is good, but not great. Slightly over-priced. 2) There's no fresh half and half or cream, just prepackaged crap (no refrigeration necessary!) loaded with preservatives. If you're proud of your drip coffee, why not have the real stuff out? 3) No mugs, just glassware. This is just a minor pet-peeve of mine :) read more

I like their location because as a study break or if you want to get out after the Riverwalk is right outside so it's easy to hop on that for a run or walk directly afterward(you also are within 2 to 3 miles of the bridge connecting Moline and bettendorf as well as the bridge to Sylvan Island which are fun places to get out to.

They were out of brown sugar for the HeLa CELL so Emily got it substituted with caramel. We waited just a few minutes for the drinks to be ready and decided that despite the smoke that was lingering around, we would sit there and play some Uno while recharging our batteries. This americano was exactly what I wanted all day. It was dark and bitter and delicious. I sampled Emily's drink and the foam and salt and caramel were a perfect combo. Compared to the other coffeehouse we visited, this one felt more traditional. It's a bit smaller so large groups might have to sit outside or divvy up between tables. As for the aesthetics of the place, they really play into the apothecary theme. It felt rustic and antique in there, between the decor and the images on the wall. It almost reminded me of Little Raven Creamery that was open in Peoria at one point. If you find yourself in the Quad Cities and want a nice change of pace from your usual coffeehouse, give Coffee Apothecary a try. Hopefully the burnt bacon smoke will be gone by then. Not entirely sure why one of the workers didn't prop a door open to help air it out but it was like 95 degrees outside so... don't blame them for wanting to keep the shop cool. Sidenote: I do wish they had their logo that I saw on their Facebook available on either a magnet, sticker, or shirt. I love the look and vibe of plague doctors so to have that on something I can put up at home or wear would be sweet. Maybe they will have some merch in the future! Until then, stay caffeinated!
