I had the pleasure of doing lunch with Dan, the keyboards for Blues Legend Buddy Guy, and I was overjoyed to learn he loved DimSum. I jumped at the chance to try the Chinatown location. Cant remember exactly what we had, it's a picture menu, and as the waiter didnt seem to speak much English, it was point and shoot. All of it was distinctively yum. Like just about every place you can go in Chinatown, the premises appear slightly run-down, in that "we've been here for a hundred years, and you're coming here to eat, not ogle the architecture" way. Turned out not to be cheap-bill for 2 = $80 + change without any booze. But the quality of the food was over the top. Don't mind paying the freight, when the feed is worth it.

Sunday Funday with a fantastic first visit to a Chinatown gem!…read more I felt like Chinese food today, and rather than eating at my neighborhood regular, I wanted to go straight to Chinatown for the most delicious, authentic experience. Thanks to my deep dive and discovery on Yelp, MCCB turned out to be the perfect spot to achieve this. The restaurant has held its Michelin status for five years now, and for my first time visiting, the flavors here were incredible. Please note: the restaurant signage is not easily visible from the street since the storefront faces inward toward the mall plaza, and while looking for it, I ended up asking a local man and his wife for directions. He was so kind and welcoming that he unexpectedly left his wife on the sidewalk, my husband in the car, and walked me right across the street and into the mall to point it out from the inside! WAIT TIME: there is a 1 to 1.25 hour wait period to be seated for a table, and a $10 fee via credit card is required to secure your spot, which is then fully transferable to your bill upon checkout. The wait is a great time to walk, explore the shops, restaurants, all Chinatown has to offer, and get your steps and miles in! SERVICE: our first server, Allen, was a bit on the stiff, curt side, but overall nice. However, we had to move from a two-top table to a four-top to accommodate all the dishes we were trying. In that changeover, we were blessed to get one of the BEST servers there, Ashley, who made the experience wonderful. FOOD: we ordered an absolute feast, starting with three starters. The Cheng Du Style Dumplings were fantastic. The Crispy Crab Rangoons were actually not mini at all and had a great crunch. The Szechuan Style Cucumber was a bit underwhelming and a slight bit on the soft side for my tastes, as I prefer my veggies crunchy even when cooked. We ordered everything with the mild heat option so there was no overwhelming spice, just great flavor. For the main dishes, we started with the Cauliflower Flank Steak and added broccoli to it, which was a fantastic addition. It is cooked in an oyster sauce and has none of the standard sweeter seasonings of the other dishes. I chose this to balance a sweet and salty rationing across my dishes, finding that MCCB is a great place to get that perfect balance. The Chicken in Spicy Garlic Sauce was perfect with the mild heat option as well, and the Honey Black Pepper Flank Steak was also incredibly savory, tender, and good. We paired everything with garlic string beans, white rice, and a great jumbo shrimp fried rice. I preferred water, while my husband had a few Diet Cokes. The food comes out hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. PARKING: parking is convenient--there is street parking or you can use the two north and south lots within walking distance. The north lot is on Archer and Wentworth, and the south lot is on Cermak and Wentworth. Validated parking is permitted for a maximum of 3 hours, and you will only pay $3 with the validation. Just make sure to stay within that time limit and get it validated, because if you go over the 3 hours or forget the validation, you will have to pay the full price for the lot. PRICE: the pricing here is very reasonable for a Michelin-recognized restaurant. Our dinner came out to just under $146 total, which offers phenomenal value given the large portions and top-tier quality. If you are seeking high-quality, delicious Sichuan food in Chinatown that completely lives up to its multi-year Michelin status, and can be customized perfectly to your spice comfort, this is a great place to go. Highly recommend and will return with family!

This will be my new place to order from! food was great, portions are considerably large, and the food arrived quickly and hot!.Red hot mandarin! enough said!.It was like any other hot pot place i've been but they do not sell alcohol (byob which is a good thing too if I known in advance) nor do they have a sauce counter, u have to ask them to bring out the various condiments and i couldn't really understand her reason but apparently the food is so good there is no need for sauce so they don't have a sauce counter, sounds like a load of bsoverall it was nice, decent typical hot pot experience.Don't miss this spot during the week for wonderful dim sum.The food is good but not great for upscale chinese food. It's in 47th while i live in the north side!!! so if they could open up a store on the north side, i would greatly appreciate it.Both times i've gone, someone has come over to ask about my drink and see if i had any feedback.Salt and pepper japanese tofu was really yummy.I've never had a bad dish here.. read more

First time trying De Rice and I got delivery. The driver was very nice, and on time exactly. Had a nice short conversation while filling out the receipt and warranted a nice tip. I ordered the Potstickers, Crab Rangoon, and Chicken fried rice. Crab Rangoon was cooked nicely, and a very good helping of filling to boot. Only thing is these were slightly on the sweeter side so I couldn't really eat them all myself. Potstickers were good as well, not too oily but could use a bit more meat inside them. Rice was great! Minimal oil used and flavor was good. Included some good veggies that helped add to the flavor. Will definitely order again!! read more

I was disappointed. The noodles were great but there were barely any seafood or vegetables in the dish. I ordered the dish before and the squid was like rubber (not that I have eaten rubber before LOL) and on both orders, the fake crab was not too tasty in the dish. Also, when I use the Eats App, the woman has frequently had an attitude when verifying the order with me. Not sure if she has a problem with the service and she merely needs a better verification process for customers or what but I think the quality there isn't what it should be. :( read more

As always I have to note that there's a reason these places can do this. They most likely buy old frozen meat on the verge of expiration or "technically expired on that day" for pennies with the intention of getting it out the door quickly. The interior I noted might seem clean, but there's noticeable cobwebs everywhere. It wouldn't be that hard to just vacuum the waiting area every once in awhile and I never understand the reason why these places almost never do it. At least there's plenty of chairs and even tables if someone wants to set them up and eat inside (although I somehow doubt they intend to let people eat inside so it may be a relic of the past.) I ordered my usual test of orange chicken lunch special. The cashier didn't say much and when they did I couldn't understand a word they said. They got my order out within 10 minutes. As I started making my way out some bum attempted to block the doorway and beg for money despite the obvious "No soliciting sign." I don't know who he thought he was trying to intimidate because he would've just ended up at Roseland Community Hospital across the street. Luckily he ended up making the right decision & backing off. Looks wise you can tell they fried the chicken extremely hard. They either overcooked it by accident or were intentionally trying to hide the taste of expired food. The end result were literal bricks of chicken that the meager plastic fork they included couldn't even pierce. Not to mention the chicken was of course dry. The orange sauce is ok, but rather mild. They put just the right amount of sauce so that it doesn't spill yet it still covers all of the chicken. The shrimp fried rice itself was way blander than I'm used to. You don't even taste the soy sauce. They also skimped out majorly on the shrimp since there was only a few pieces for these huge mounds of rice. I was so disappointed that I tried saving the rice by refrying it with more soy sauce and adding toasted sesame seed oil, oyster sauce, carrots, green onions, bok choy, etc. It ended up being much better than what they sold me otherwise the original dish most likely would've ended up in the trash.
