Just so happened to stop by to grab something quick since I was already late to work. I walk by this place every Wednesday when I come to work, but today was the day. Or not. I had something small, and I ordered the everything bagel *toasted* with cream cheese and a peach and mango smoothie. Welp! The everything bagel was missing everything. It was naked with a few sprinkle of freckles. It was warm but not toasted as requested. I took one bite and wasn't happy. The smoothie was'nt smoothing. It was more like a slushy with chunks of ice. Was in town for the weekend and looking for a gift for my friend who was hosting me. Found this spot after a quick search and was pleasantly surprised. The woman behind the counter was so enthusiastic and warm - she described all of the offerings (cupcakes, loaves, cakes) and even offered a tasting if I was curious about a flavor. Everything is made out of sweet potato, but tastes just like a regular cake. I opted for a whole pie, which was delicious (tasted like pumpkin pie). Even the customers were raving about the food. My office is right above this cafe and started coming when it first opened at this location. One day I bought a chocolate cupcake home for my 11 year old daughter and the rest was history. Now I come here every time I am in the office to get a cupcake for my daughter. She bakes herself and is quite picky about her cupcakes. She claimed that the sweet potato cupcakes were better than Georgetown Cupcakes and I believe my daughter. I am more of a savory person and I love their lunch options. I like the shrimp kale salad and the breakfast items. I recently met the owner April and she is an amazing woman! She practiced law in addition to running this business. This little amazing bakery specializes in sweet potato cakes. I first tasted this delectable dessert at Starbucks, and was hooked ever since. Once Starbucks was sold out for a few visits, I was on the hunt to find this shop. It has moved from Savor hall to a small shop on Baltimore avenue. I parked and walked up to the door, only to find out that it wasn't opened for business. The owner April came to the door and let me know that the shop wouldn't be opened for business until early May, and after I told her how amazing her desserts were she allowed me to sample a variety of her sweet potato cake flavors. I thought that the original was good, but I was equally impressed with all the other flavors. Each cupcake was moist, and almost melts in your mouth. Not too sweet, and the cream cheese icing just may be my favorite part. I am a huge red velvet fan, so I may have been most pleased with that variation. I just can't wait until the grand opening so I can frequent this shop! It is a must try if you're in the area. The best part is that these treats are sold in stores around the p.g county area. Don't order from this place. I ordered a cake a week ago and was told to pick it up from the store at noon. I drove 30 minutes to the store only to be told they didn't have the cake and that I could go back home and they would deliver it in 30 minutes. I get home and 2 hours later after telling me 3 times they were 10 minutes away they call and say oh we had an extra one in the freezer and are about to send it to you now. I missed a train home for the holidays because they lied and said they were going to deliver it and then after I leave the store and go home and wait for almost 3 hours they call back and say oh we forgot we had one in the freezer. I now have to pay for another train home for the holidays tomorrow because the rest of the ones today are sold out. Great job dc sweet potato cake. Thanks for nothing. I didn't go at first because I'm not a sweets eater (probably in the minority, I know), but my friend and I went in for coffee and a snack and discovered that they also have sandwiches, rice bowls and salads. So a good lunch spot as well. Only low note: I hope they add a few things that are not spicy (the rice bowls I tried were too hot for me) or give customers the option to regulate what sauces are added. read more

This bakery advertised a promotion in their website, but when I mentioned it the person working the counter (maybe the owner) refused to honor the promotion, although he was aware of the promotion. The sweet potato cupcakes and cakes are THE BOMB! Sweet, moist, just the right amount of spices and the frosting is delicious. I have never been a big fan of sweet potatoes, but I love this cakes. The frosting is also fantastic. It's not too thick on the cake, so it doesn't overpower the delicious cake.
