BEWARE!!!!! If I could give negative stars I would. My initial review is below followed by my updated review: I called to arrange an estimate. The woman was very nice, took all of my information, and told me I'd get a call within the hour from a handyman. I did not hear back so I called again the next day. It was a different woman and I told her my situation. She asked for all of my information again. I told her I should be in the system because I gave it all to the other woman the day before. Well, she told me that info is sent to a handyman and not recorded in their system. So I gave her all of my info again. It was the same case as the day before, she told me I'd hear back from the handyman in an hour. That was yesterday and I still haven't heard anything. Needless to say, it looks like I'm going to need to call someone else. UPDATE: The day after I posted this review I got a call from the company apologizing for not getting back to me and wanting to make things right. I gave them a chance. They told me they would provide service for free in exchange for me deleting my review and posting a 5 star review. I told them I would update my review after the work was completed. We scheduled a date for my repair, which was a week day night after work. The issue was damaged door frame and door weatherstrip. The scheduled appointment time came and no one was here. 10 minutes after the appointment time a technician called me to ask me for my address. I was confused because he was supposed to be here already. I asked him where he was, he was very vague, and then he told me he still had to go to the store to buy supplies for my job. I told him not to come, it was going to be too late by the time he got here and I had work the next day. I called the company and expressed my disappointment, she again profusely apologized and asked to try one more time. I agreed because I really wanted to make things work for both of us, I didn't want to go through the hassle of finding someone else. We rescheduled for Sunday at 2. By Sunday at 3:30 still no one showed up. I notified the company and told her that I will not be giving her company a 5 star review, and she can tell the guy not to come. I told her I'd rather pay than continue to go through this hassle. She insisted they resolve things. The man showed up around 4pm, two hours after my appointment. When he got here he said, "I'm the locksmith". Locksmith?! I don't need a locksmith. I told the company exactly what i needed, and I had even sent a picture of the damage. I couldn't believe it. The man was very friendly, and he seemed to not have any idea of what kind of damage I needed to be repaired. He made a call to someone else who called me, and said he could do the work. Don't ask me why, but I agreed. The guy called me, and tried very hard to convince me to change the review to 5 stars, and that I will get the work for free. I reiterated that I could not give 5 stars, my experience had been anything but. As I said above if I could give a negative review I would. This last guy was supposed to come today at 4. It is now 4:40 and he's still not here. I called him with no answer, left him a voicemail and cancelled. I can't believe I let them string me along for this long. I really did want to give them a second chance, and even a third, but this is ridiculous. I've wasted so much of my personal time and energy for nothing. read more

Based on all the great reviews, I reached out to D.C. Handyman to get an estimate for a couple home projects. I submitted estimate requests through their website several times. I also emailed directly on numerous occasions. Finally, I called them (during business hours). The woman I spoke with apologized that no one responded to my online and email requests and said she would let the handyman know and that someone would call me later the same day. Well, it's the end of the next day and no one has called. I'd love to write about the quality of their work but I can't even get them to acknowledge my requests. Guess I need to find someone else. read more

He fixed an electrical switch in the kitchen, hung a curtain rod and did paint touch-up, rehung a door, installed an AC filter, and even accommodated my need to trim a large hedge in my front yard. Had a terrible experience with this company. I called, emailed, and messaged on yelp, providing my contact information to see if they service my area and never got a response. After I wrote my first review explaining this, the owner called me asking me what she could do to have me remove my review since "they work hard for their good yelp ratings." When I didn't remove it, someone filed a complaint against yelp, trying to get Yelp to remove my review under the guidelines that I didn't provide enough information. Clearly this company only wants good Yelp reviews and if you put otherwise, they will try to get it removed. The one star is for the terrible customer experience. read more

This is a update to an earlier review. After posting a one star review on Yelp we were contacted by the business who was very concerned about the poor rating. The business explained that the owner had been on vacation and that the people who had come to our house were not full time employees. After a bit of back and forth, the owner came out and plastered in the holes that the "employees" had made in our wall. He then told us that we need to sand it down ourselves and my wife said she would paint the spot on our own. I did think it was a relatively "medium" plaster job (another layer of plaster would make it easier to sand without damaging other parts of the wall). I'm giving them two extra stars over the single star as they tried so hard to follow up and correct things. I guess Yelp reviews do matter as it got them to come back and patch up for the "employees" who were not "employees." (We never got the full story). read more

Our painter, Romero, did a beautiful job in our daughter's bathroom. I was told that the job would take approximately half a day, however it ended up taking a day and a half. Although I then had to cancel clients and lose some income I was pleased that DC Handyman stood by their original price quote. I would definitely use DC Handyman again but might ask that they view the job before committing to a time frame/price. read more

I was very impressed with the detail of the estimate and explanation of what would be done, so I decided to hire DC Handyman for the job. They began work within a few days. All of the workers were very polite and professional. They took great care to make sure that there was no damage to floors or any of my belongings. If you've been wanting to do some upgrades but don't know where to start, do yourself a favor....hire these guys, among their talents Israel and Gil can offer, if asked, grounded design suggestions that will reflect both your ideas and your budget. First a little background. I initially hired DC Handyman to do some repair work on a condo that I was getting ready to put on the market. Not having been the most diligent of homeowners , the repairs included electrical, plumbing and tile work. I selected DC Handyman based on the glowing Yelp reviews. My goal in hiring them was twofold; I needed the work done on my current unit, but I was also interested in finding one competent, reliable and affordable company that would be able to handle all of the repairs and improvements I was anticipating would be needed to a much older unit that I was expecting to be moving into. Israel showed up at the appointed time, scoped out the job and quoted a price. He returned the next day, again at the appointed hour, with crew, and did the work competently and efficiently. At that point, I was pretty much sold; within four hours they had taken care of repairs that I had put off for months because of concerns over who to call and what it all might cost. Fast forwarding to my present abode, Israel and Gil are finishing up what amounts to an almost a complete re-do of the place; new kitchen, new floors, plaster repair and painting, new crown molding, electrical work, plumbing work, new shelving and built-ins. And I couldn't be more pleased. If there is such a thing as worry free home re-modeling, I found it with DC Handyman. The pricing's been fair, and the work has been done quickly, competently and efficiently. As testimony to my confidence in Israel's skill and professionalism, I pretty much gave him carte blanche with the kitchen design. Admittedly, I'm not much of a cook, and the kitchen's footprint is almost unbelievably small, but there were a couple of features I felt strongly about; I wanted a large sink, and I wanted a cabinet containing dual trash cans. With not much space to work with, and with a surprisingly tight budget, Israel managed to return a quite handsome design that provided me not only with the two features I'd asked for, but also with more cabinet space than was offered by my previous, much larger, kitchen. And in doing so, he managed to retain the existing flooring, which I initially wanted replaced, but now that it's been paired with more attractive cabinetry and better coordinated countertops, I quite like. Finally a comment about something expressed by one of the other reviewers, a complaint that smaller jobs may not get the same level of service that larger jobs do. All I can say is that I've used DC Handyman for jobs that took four hours, and for jobs that took four weeks, and there's not been an iota of difference between them with regard to the attention that I've received. As recently as today, when I mentioned that I was a little apprehensive about hanging some artwork on the freshly finished and painted plaster walls, Israel said, no problem, just give him a call when I get all settled in and they'll come out and hang the artwork for me. Bottom line is, these guys want you happy. They're busy guys, with multiple jobs ongoing at any given time, but you'll be hard pressed not to think that you're their only customer. So, as I said before, do yourself a favor, and go hire these guys. read more

Moshe and his team from DC Handyman were great. Moshe was quick to respond to my request for an estimate and his price was the best. We hired them to paint our entryway, stairwell, banister, hall, and bathroom; replace our pedestal sink; remove the tile backsplash from behind the sink; and repair a broken interior window. The workmen did everything in a single day and threw in recaulking our bathtub and installing new medicine cabinets free of charge. I've had some difficulty with home contractors in the past, but my experience with DC Handyman was an exception. Moshe and his crew did a wonderful job painting my one bedroom apartment. I needed a few small fixes to my condo before renting it out -- a leaky faucet, some small cracks in the dry wall, and a fallen curtain rod. Israel was able to get someone to my place on short notice and communicated well. He arrived a bit after the given time window (11:30, he arrived at noon), but that was okay because he was able to finish the job in half the time that was quoted which is great. Though he wasn't able to fix the leaky faucet, he diagnosed the problem and gave me a quote for what it would cost to fix it since it would require more plumbing work, without pressuring me to do it right then. read more

I read through the reviews here, and they are accurate. Moshe and his guys painted my entire house, with the exception of one room and a powder room. They are efficient, they work quickly and they clean up after themselves. You do not have to worry about DC Handyman overcharging. Contracting work is not cheap, if you want quality work. But I shopped around, and they were the most reasonable. I now have a go-to company for my house and my rental properties. And, they are nice people. Outstanding experience. Moshe and his team did excellent work and were a pleasure to work with. They kept their promises and over delivered. I live in Florida, but manage several properties in the MD/DC area. The tenants in one property used the word "elastic" in describing the work done and the time it took to complete. This was important since the previous contractor we used did a horrible job. Just one thing to be mindful of: they don't accept credit cards or use Paypal (at the time of this review anyway). However, they will work with you on getting the payment to them either by check or cash. I highly recommend them and they were very patient and courteous and the work was wonderful. read more
