I've been here several times now. The food is good and the prices are reasonable for what you get, especially for some of their special offerings. The service has always been great. Staff are friendly and food usually arrives quickly. I've been here alone and with others and have always enjoyed it. hadn't been to DC in a few years, and unfortunately this will be my last visit here. The coffee was extremely weak and tasteless. We asked for a stronger cup, but it wasn't any better. My omelette was dry and bland, and the fruit served on the side was frozen with no flavor at all. One friend was served raw chicken in her Asian salad, and another found black hairs on her plate. Completely unacceptable. I was dining with a group of 10 people, and all of us agreed we would never return. The only positive note was the service--the waiter and staff were wonderful and attentive. Unfortunately, good service can't make up for poor food quality and cleanliness issues. To make matters worse, the café reeked of smoke, which made the experience even more unpleasant. read more

The breakfast is decently tasty but the food and coffee are amazingly priced. The casino smoke isn't bad so for us it's worth it-- especially with a lot of kiddos to feed. They also have Crayola crayons for kids to color with. The scramble is actually really tasty. The best priced items seem to be the oatmeal at $4.99 with all the fixings and a ham and cheese omelette with hash browns for only $7.99. Yes, really! In 2026! We stopped by this time to check out one of their restaurants, DC Cafe. We were greeted by Nelson, who was doing double duty as both cashier and host--always appreciated when employees step up to help where needed. Our server, Shane, was also great! He took care of all my requests and remained fast, friendly, and efficient throughout our visit. The food was pretty good. The clam chowder was thick, just the way I prefer it, and the sliders and fried chicken were good as well. They got busy quickly, and it was nice to see two of their managers on the floor helping out--Nate, whom I spoke with briefly, and Nelson. We had heard that the "Diner" inside the Tamarack was pretty good, so we wanted to give it a try. I would day that the food on our visit was "okay". A highlight of our visit was our waitress, Christina. Her brutal honesty and upbeat demeanor was a true treat. She gave us guidance on best plates with a refreshing sense of honesty that we loved. I had the Chicken Enchilada Plate. To be fair, I think it would have been better if it hadn't been sitting under the heating lamps for so long. That said the Enchilada's were "okay", nothing amazing but the green chile sauce was actually quite good. The Pinto beans were pretty good but the spanish rice was a bit over cooked from the heating lamps. My wife had the burger. I thought it was pretty good. The bun was tasty but not oversided. Just right. The patty was cooked and tasty. The burger was served with fries that were absolutely delicious. For simple diner food, that is close by, the DC Cafe is a decent option. This café has food that is quite good. I had a taco salad with chicken and there was plenty of it. Their chipotle ranch was very good. My husband had a chicken club with fries and he said it was delicious. The food is quite reasonably priced and the hostess upfront was extremely nice. We will definitely be back. The atmosphere was very cozy, but it also had a strange "tearing wall" decoration design that, while I'm sure tickles some people's fancy, does look rather off to me. Our waitress was good. She was knowledgeable about the menu, immediately gave recommendations on the day's special, and was patient and helpful! I ordered simple tonight, just chicken tenders and fries. The fries were crunchy, well seasoned, and very tasty! The tenders were delicious, very crunchy, and nice and warm! Very delicious! Overall, this was a very pleasant experience. Back in 2021 when the DC Cafe at the Tamarack Casino first opened, I gave them a bad, one star review. Now in November 2024, I have to say the place has improved considerably. I live about 5 minutes away from the Tamarack, so I go there often. My favorite side of the DC Cafe is the Sport's Bar. It is cozy, it has plenty of large screen TVs and offers great customer service. The menu has been expanded with many great food choices at very reasonable prices. If you like domestic beers and wine like I do, you can find them here for $4, $5 dollars. I highly recommend the place for a good meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and/or sports watching. read more

Sometimes you just want to stay in your neighborhood and go to your neighborhood Casino. That is Tamarack for us and we are so fortunate to have it so close to home. We love to sit at the tables next to the bar. The booths are huge and cozy. We can also order food from the DC Cafe, while we watch sports on the various TV monitors. Working up in Truckee, I am always interacting with a lot of international students. There was a group of girls from malaysia in town, and I brought them to Reno for a casino/an expensive meal. I love DC café because they have a lot of $6.99 and $7.99 specials. And quite a few dinners under $10. We arrived near closing, however they have a policy of seating up to the last minute lol. We took two of the half booth half tables and I ordered my usual Cadillac margarita. Matt was our waiter. He's always an awesome guy. What we ordered: Cadillac margarita 4x pork medallions with mashed potatoes and vegetables Grilled salmon Tried to order chili Verde but they were out of it Chicken enchiladas Chicken burrito Chicken fried steak and eggs over easy The food arrived promptly. The girls enjoyed the dinner so much, there was not a crumb or speck of food left on the plates lol. They have been in the US for about two months and mostly been eating as cheap as possible, which is difficult to do in Truckee. so they really enjoyed a home-cooked meal even if it was American style. We stopped in for lunch and they were slammed. Our server was great and I am not sure how she kept up with all the tables and making rounds with coffee too. We had not been here for quite awhile but we always had good meals here. We just never thing of it but we will have to go more often as it is close to home. Coffee was okay but I did not like that they only had non-dairy creamer on the table for the coffee. I asked the server for half and half and she told me it was on the table. When I got her attention again my coffee was barely warm but she did bring me half and half. I guess no one asks for it even though non-dairy creamer is mostly made with oil. Our food was good and my burger was cooked well-done the way I like it. I also like the fact that they pile on all the fixings plus offer another option for the fries. I got the coleslaw and it was really good. My second choice would have been the sweet potato fries even though it was an extra charge. I am not really a regular fries gal. This place has the best coffee price in town which will keep us coming back. We don't like paying $4 each for coffee, especially if we are having one cup. So I go here with an elderly old school cowboy that I do caregiving for. We have been 3 times in the last 2 weeks and every time my order is wrong. His is always right but then again he orders the same thing all the time, the pancake breakfast. I have ordered the turkey melt sandwich that is supposed to come with bacon strips and green chilis, mine did not. It came with chopped up bacon and tomato and NO green chilis, ugh. Time 2, I ordered the bacon avocado burger no tomato, no lettuce, no onion, no bun with coleslaw. I got all the veggies and fries instead of coleslaw. Time 3 ordered the pork chili verde no rice and of course it came with rice. As soon as I saw the menu here, I knew this café was owned by the same people that own the Bodine's Casino and Slot world Casino in Carson City as well as the Carson Valley Inn restaurant Katie's. All of the menu s look super similar with identical dishes and deals. Deals like the Giant Ham Steak breakfast as well as the Chicken Fried steak super deal for breakfast. There were some differences between the $7.99 plate special offerings. Here at the DC Cafe inside the Tamarack Junction Casino, they have the Grilled Pork Medallions not offered elsewhere, but they still had the Roast Turkey Dinner served at all the other properties. You might have to wait a little for a table, even though it might appear that there are plenty of open tables, but they're short staffed as most places seem to be these days, so they can only service so many tables. Put your name in and you'll get a text. What actually drew me to this place was the pics of the grilled pork medallions ($7.99) that I can't get at they Carson City properties. So that's what I got along with a side of fries to start, hey they're only $2.00! My friend got the $6.99 Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs served with biscuit and gravy. What a deal for these days! The fries arrived piping hot and fast. Good thing we got these as the rest of the food took a little while, so just relax while you wait for your food, it's worth it. My Pork Medallions arrived and looked totally delicious with a nice mushroom glazed sauce covering 2 nice sized pieces of pork served with mashed potatoes and veggies. The veggies were not actually over cooked as with most coffee chop veggies at casinos. My friend's Chicken Fried Steak arrived slathered in country gravy along side a small biscuit cover in gravy as well and a nice portion of scrambled eggs. The food was exceptional, especially those pork medallions and they mushroom sauce ... OMG so freakin good! Get the server to bring you more of that sauce! The pork was tender and cooked properly and I thought this dish would be at home on a high end restaurant! Look at the pics you'll see how good the food is here. We love having breakfast here on Sunday mornings. It never disappoints when we eat here. We're usually sat pretty quickly, no matter the number in our party. The servers are very kind, and so quick. I love getting eggs, with toast, bacon and hash browns. It really hits the spot, and is the "all American breakfast". It goes quiet nicely with a mimosa or two! I went on April 30 I got a steak and mash potatoes and ordered a chicken parm to go for dinner. The steak was big and cooked to perfection! vegetables were soggy and limp but, also got a side salad so didn't care. Tamarack Casino doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but inside is a true gem of a restaurant. The DC Cafe, with it's railroad decorations and incredible staff, is a wonder! The staff, menu and food are all incredible. My personal favorite after two visits, is the Super French Toast. A huge portion, and very reasonable price, combine to make this a fantastic meal! The food is prepared with care, tastes fantastic, and is decently priced. Employees care about the experience the customers receive, and everyone is full of joy! I cannot recommend this place enough. Love the place since they are open unlike SOME places on a Sunday. Breakfast includes menu items for a lower price than most places. Got the Country Breakfast, cup of fruit and some coffee. $6.99 for the country breakfast and the portions reflect the price. More than adequate for me. Their fruit cup also included some strawberry and blue berries in addition to cantaloupe and pineapple. This ONE thing makes it better than almost everyone else selling a fruit cup. We decided to give DC another chance, so we went for dinner tonight. Big mistake. I ordered Eggs Benedict. One of them was fine, but the egg on the other one was still semi-raw with runny egg whites. I asked the waiter to have them make a new one to replace the incorrectly cooked one. He finally brought out an egg in a dish and some hollandaise sauce and expected me to wipe the raw egg off the by then soggy English muffin and put the fresh one on it. No thanks. I told him I wasn't going to do that and please bring our check. They didn't even offer a discount for the half of a plate of food I couldn't eat. We won't return.
