This is the place to be for delicious small batch donuts! Found this place on yelp and boy am I glad! I love their display of the daily offerings of donuts because I came in thinking I'd get 1-2 and left with almost half a dozen because they looked so good! Nice play DB3 - I'm not even mad. I tried a few of their specialties: oreo and marshmallow, blueberry crumble(?), Boston creme, salty caramel pretzel, and lemon glaze. The doughnut base on all of them were perfectly soft, light and not too sweet. The toppings/glazes were all very flavorful and a perfect match for each of the donuts' descriptions. My favorite is the lemon glaze because it has a really good strong vibrant tart lemon flavor that pairs perfectly with the sweet glaze on top - my husband found it to be too tart so note for those who don't like the intense punch of flavor. I also really loved the blueberry crumble cake donut - this was the only one of the bunch that had a different donut base that had a really delicious blueberry flavor to it that complimented the sweet crumbles on top. The boston creme has a chocolate ganache on it that tastes a bit more like dark chocolate which was a nice surprise. Oreo and marshmallow was an interesting combo that I enjoyed more than I thought I would, which just goes to show that you should definitely come and buy a large variety to share with friends and family. It might surprise you which one(s) you end up coming back for! Gourmet donuts in the Northshore! There are so many great bakeries, but specialty donut shops are rare. It does feel like a real treat when you get to have a freshly baked donut as opposed to a Dunkin donuts previously frozen variety. What makes them unique is that they make letter donuts which you can buy for a special occasion. How cool is that?! They serve mini and regular sized donuts in a variety of flavors. You can get a dozen donuts for $11. Not bad for fresh donuts. I tried the Nutella donut because I just love that stuff! It was nice and soft, however I thought the filling could use improvement. It didn't really taste like Nutella to me; it had a more chocolately taste.The glazed chocolate donut I tried was also good. The sparrow coffee they serve tasted nice with donuts. If you come here, there is street parking. Also a parking lot about a half mile down Central. Overall, it is a nice shop with a good amount of options to satisfy your sweet tooth! read more

Living in the north suburbs, city donut places are sometimes too far for me to go to. And let's be honest, I don't want to spend an hour there and back in Chicago traffic. So this place is exactly what the suburbs needed- a donut place relatively close by and Northwestern is an area that is fun to visit. Presentation: 10/10 Colorful, perfectly glazed, and the lighting and aesthetics of the place gives you a great picture Taste: 9/10 a little too sweet for me but the texture of the donuts were perfect- not dry at all They also have a great selection so everyone will find something they like from classics to unique ones! I randomly ordered from here yesterday (1/3/2021) and man was I impressed! We got the following donuts: - fruity pebbles - maple bacon - vanilla with sprinkles - chocolate ganache - raspberry jelly - powdered donut I tried all of them (don't judge me) and they were all delicious. They have a nice subtle crunch on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. They were not super sweet either. read more

I was sad to miss the Yelp event at DB3 Donuts recently, so when I heard it was National Donut Day, I remembered they were in nearby Evanston and decided to take a trip beyond the wall for some yummy suburban treats. It had obviously been a busy day. Everyone working there seemed stressed out, and they were out of several flavors. It was "only" noon when I got there, so I was hoping for a bit more variety after seeing the menu online. Even some that were on display were sold out for the day, so it was hard to choose which lovely treats to sample, but that is a champagne problem if I ever saw one. I got two cereal-adorned yumleys, a cakey donut with Cinnamon Toast Crunch and a raised delight coated in Fruity Pebbles. And then, because it's National Donut Day I got a 2-shaped, sprinkle-coated confection in honor of their second birthday. The donuts were uniformly delicious, but the raised guys were really the surprise hit for me. I bit into them and they were lighter than any donut I can remember. Usually yeasted donuts taste heavy to me, but this one yielded to my teeth and dissolved on the tongue. I'd go back again for that. If you're in the north burbs or even Rogers Park (like me) you'd be hard pressed to find a better donut. The small-batch baking makes a major difference, even if it means they run out of flavors by noon. There are a ton of great options in the city proper, but it's nice to see a more focused take in the burbs. read more

Their small batch donuts tasted quite unique. I personally like Stan's, Do-Rite and Firecakes in Chicago. When I discovered this new donut place in Evanston, I expected a similar taste. However, Db3's donuts are quite different and I would say theirs are even better! They are softer, less sweetened and smelled like a little bit malted or fermented. Long gap between visits; here's why: I tried this place way back in May of 2016, and got a favorable impression (the highlights were maple cinnamon and lemon glazed). I really wanted to try their apple fritter, about which I had read in another reivew, so before visiting again, I called ahead to find out whether they had apple fritters that day. They didn't, so I tried again a few weeks later. And again. And again. This went on for a year and a half. Seriously, about once every month or two I would ring up after 8 am opening time and ask about apple fritters. Finally, last weekend the young woman happened to mention something like, "We don't ever make a traditional fritter, but today we have an apple pie doughnut." So I finally put a stop to this pattern and just gave up on the apple fritter. It's a shame, because the rest of their wares are so choice. That maple cinnamon is the crown jewel, simple but perfect. Their chocolate icing (used on several varieties such as the excellent boston creme) is restrained. In fact, none of their doughnuts are terribly sweet. They don't rely on sugar, but actual flavor and quality, to keep you coming back. That apple pie doughnut was really good, too. But I would still have loved to try their apple fritter. read more

So glad I checked out this shop while in Evanston. First off the donuts are decently priced ($1.50 for regular donuts and $2.75 for specialty donuts). I was amazed because prices in the city usually range from $3-5 for. I ended up getting 4 of their regular donuts and 2 of their specialty donuts. I honestly enjoyed their regular donuts that I had (chocolate ganache, glazed, strawberry and the chocolate raised). The dough was fluffy yet not too airy. Could definitely tell that it was freshly baked. Now for the specialty donuts, I ordered the red velvet, and the maple bacon donut called "The Dude" Goo. These donuts were pretty heavy because it was baked with the cake consistency and had some thick icing. I definitely recommend getting "The Dude" Goo because the sweet and salty mixture of the bacon and the donut were like fireworks in my mouth! read more

I've been stalking Db3 donuts on Instagram for a while. Today I saw that it was on my way to a Yelp Event in Evanston so it was meant to be! Since I was in such a hurry, I wasn't able to spend too much time ogling at the donuts :( I quickly ordered 6 donuts that looked or sounded good to me at the time: Boston Cream (thanks to the man before me who let me have the last one!), blueberry/lemon glazed, pistachio filled, vanilla sprinkles, glazed and chocolate raised. The Boston Cream was AMAZING! The filling was so creamy & delicious, the chocolate ganache was rich but not overly sweet and the donut was fluffy and tasty! Plus there were chocolate shavings on top-fancy! The lemon/blueberry glazed was really good, I liked the crunch from this cake donut and there were plenty of blueberry chunks which I loved and just enough tang from the lemons. (Not my favorite version of this flavor though; I'm still dreaming about the blueberry/lemon potato donut from the Holy Donut in Portland, ME I just had last week). My daughter loved her vanilla sprinkle donut and proclaimed it the best she's had :) Anyone who loves pistachios will LOVE the pistachio cream filled. So much pistachio flavor and tons of crunchy whole pistachios on top-yum! I didn't get a chance to try the glazed/chocolate (saving for my other kids!) but I don't doubt they are good based on the ones we've tried. Also, I had zero expectations on the coffee I ordered but I was pleasantly surprised to find it was an excellent cup of coffee. It was so smooth and rich. My only complaint about Db3 is I have to wait until 8:30/8:45 to eat then when we order in! These are the best donuts we have had in the Wilmette area, and while my hungry kids are used to eating their donuts at 7:00 from *cough* Dunkin, it is always a good Saturday when I can get them to be patient until Db3 opens, so we can all enjoy the much better donuts together! In terms of preferences, I stick with the Glazed Raised and my husband loves the Jelly Filled. One ask to Db3 (not that you need any input) - you keep losing to Dunkin with our kids (who don't appreciate quality yet) because there isn't a Chocolate Raised Sprinkles option. The vanilla cake sprinkles option is a bit dense for the little ones in our house. But you have the grown ups' vote! read more

YASSSS. My new fav donut place when I feel like being fancy. It's got the crunchy outside and the fluffy inside, need I say more? Brownie Points: They keep making donuts throughout the day so you don't have to worry about missing out on your favorites. My suggestion? Get whatever just came out of the oven, it'll be a notch above the rest. Donuts are not as big as some of the gourmet donuts you can get downtown but I think that actually prevents staleness. I pass this place every time I go to work and finally got the chance to try it. Db3 is cutely decorated and they have an assortment of donuts available on their counter. There are some donuts that are seasonal or only available on certain days of the week. I've shared several donuts with friends so we can try all the different flavors. I have to say the Boston cream donut I had from here was the best I've ever tasted! The s'mores donut is also delicious and I really recommend trying that. Their donuts are decadent yet light at the same time- the soft and fluffy bite to their dough is amazing. I also tried the caramel nitro brew coffee which was good. So I finally got around to coming to this place. It's a nice place to come by in the morning during the weekend if you want to enjoy some great quality donuts. They have some simple choices and they also have special creations that really do stand out. So on my visit there I got a few of the special and basic. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch and the chocolate canache I think it was called, were my favorite. Best to eat them the day you get them. The price I guess is worth the donut but I wouldn't get them on a weekly basis since they are more on the expensive side, only for special occasions or the occasional sweet tooth craving. I give this place 5 stars because it was a clean and efficient place with some helpful service, and great quality donuts. Definitely a place I will come back to if my sweet tooth comes back! read more

Tested out their chocolate ganache and glazed yeast-raised from their non-fancies ($1.50 each) and one fancy ($2.75) with oreo marshmallow. Great donuts, some of which were glazed as we ordered (our yeast-raised). Best we had for the price? No. But higher cocoa icing used on the ganache and also similarly on the oreo marshmallow. I would say in the range of donut shops, that they'd be at least a '$$' not a '$'. read more

I almost always grab a half dozen when I'm in the area. Small batch donuts, inviting displays that are just calling your name (: My preference when it comes to donuts is for fluffy, almost cake-y, light on the tongue donuts. I like the regular glazed here and the chocolate ganache ones in particular, but I don't think you can go wrong. In a competition for best donuts across Chicagoland, I don't think this will win (maybe I'm biased because I have a clear all time favorite in downtown Chicago) but I daresay it'll be a contender. Walked by Db3 before the Northwestern football game on Saturday. They had a stand set up outside selling donuts and coffee (and Ten Mile House was selling beer at the stand). I had the Northwestern sprinkles and my boyfriend had the maple cinnamon. The Northwestern glazed donut was one of the best donuts I've ever had. DB3 is our go to spot when we're craving the sweet round goodness. We're always kindly greeted by the friendly staff upon walking in. There are about 6 tables that seat for each, so you can enjoy your treat immediately upon purchase. We're always drawn in by the doughnut display on the counter. They have "basic" flavors like vanilla, chocolate, glazed, and cinnamon sugar for $1.50 ea. They also have "fancy" flavors that rotate every 2 weeks for $2.75 ea. Our "fancy" favorites have been the Fruit Pebbles, Nutella Filled, and Chocolate Caramel Rolo. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The "fancy" ones are a tad larger than the basics. All you need is one and you're full. We tend to get a few different flavors and share them. They can also custom make letters, numbers and punctuation out of their doughnuts. You just need to pre-order them. So cool. We are huge fans of DB3. read more

This is a little gem of a donut shop. I have tried the following donuts: Boston Cream Pie, Strawberry Shortcake, The Dude (maple glazed with bacon) and strawberry raised and mixed berry. All were lovely. The cake and yeast raised donuts are moist and light. The strawberry glaze is bright pink with a miraculous flavor of fresh strawberries. The chocolate ganache glaze on the Boston cream pie donut is full of flavor but with a nice flexible texture. Donuts at their worst can be greasy, heavy and overly sweet. The donuts at DB3 donuts are light and flavorful without being overly sweet or oily. Amanda, the Pastry Chef is doing a wonderful job. read more

I was excited to finally try this place but left pretty disappointed. The selection is rather small. I understand that they're a small-batch store, but as someone who loves fun flavors of specialty donuts, I would have loved a few more options. I ended up getting the Nutella-filled donut, which is essentially a plain sugar-coated yeast donut with Nutella filling. The donut itself was good - it was soft and perfectly sweet. However, I was really disappointed by the Nutella filling. The filling was pretty thin, lacking the characteristic thickness and creaminess of Nutella. I was also really disappointed by the taste, which lacked the rich chocolatey flavor of Nutella. Instead, the chocolate flavor was weak and not particularly sweet or delicious.
