Good little spot in Kapolei. I try to come at off times to avoid the crowd. Food never disappoints. This time we came at happy hour and got the lechon and poke nachos. Both were outstanding. This was our first time eating at DB Grill, we found them by scrolling on my yelp app. The food was amazing 5 star. We had the duck fat fried rice with an egg, fried chicken wings, bao-bun with pork belly and man-doo. Everything was delicious. We ordered basically from the pupu and appetizer menu, but just an note its a little pricey our bill was $69.00 but the waitress did encourage us to come next time during happy hour which starts from 3-6 pm Also all our items were suggested by our waitress who was very friendly and on point with her recommendations. A great place to dine and have some drinks at whenever you're in the Kapolei area. It is located in Kapolei Commons so parking is easy to find. Service is friendly and the interior gives a bar feel with music in the background and sports playing on the TVs. My friends and I shared the kimchi fries (I love waffle fries and the sauce drizzled over them had the perfect kick!), boom shrooms, garlic soy wings, kimchi fried rice, and bossam. It's been a few years since I've been to DB grill. And although I had a nice experience the first time, I especially enjoyed this recent visit. Since then, the menu has changed and for the better. I'm an appetizer kinda person. I like my fried foods, small and quick bites. And luckily, my sister is also prefers appetizers as well. As we were walking from the parking lot to the restaurant, I told my sister not to overdo it on the apps. But then my eyes were too impressed with the options that I need up ordering Nanban Nuggets, Smoked Fish Dip, Bulgogi Steak Tacos, Boom Shrooms and Melona Soju I did pretty good right? A poultry, fish, beef, veggie and fruit! Everything was delicious. I wish we had more people with us because O really want to try the other soju flavors and I hardly drink liquor because I'm usually the DD. But when our sweet and helpful server, Isaiah said, "it really taste like Melona!" I through my car keys into my sister purse. It's kinda got a sports bar feel with the two large screen TVs playing ESPN and with the apps. I have family coming visiting in a few days. It's conveniently located near the Ko Olina resorts area where I was staying and didn't want to venture too far for good comfort food after a long flight. We were seated immediately and got there before it got busy. The two servers working that night were friendly and attentive, super chill and casual vibes all around. We ordered the boom shrooms, garlic soy chicken wings, duck fat fried rice, DB chicken, and crispy garlic shrimp. Everything was delicious and the portions were great for sharing. Food and service were very good, but the dining room was incredibly loud. The acoustics are terrible. We asked to sit outside but they wouldn't let us. We were seated next to a large table of drunk men who didn't have inside voices and we couldn't hear our own conversation over them. My family and I have eaten here several times. It is usually one of our favorites. However, during our latest visit about a week ago, the air conditioning was either broken or just off (maybe there weren't enough people inside to necessitate the ac). Thermostat displayed 89 degrees. Outdoors was 90-92 degrees. Doors probably had to be closed to prevent flies from coming in. It was a HOT box. It was hard to enjoy the experience given the heat. Now, I get it when it's something past 8 or 9, when it really becomes more a bar setting. But it was like 6ish still. Food was pretty good though - the highlights on our table were the pork chops and the local fried rice. Pork chop was perfectly seasoned and cooked, but I don't think anyone will be able to dethrone the king of pork chops - Sidestreet. I like the fried rice, but kinda wish they had gave more of it. All in all, decent place to gather some friends for beers and pupus. I do feel like the inside could be rearranged more thoughtfully to make it feel more intimate. I really do love this restaurant especially during happy hour but we got take out this time and did the family lunch pack. By the time I got home and saw what it looked like, I was incredibly surprised. The kalbi pieces were extremely small and I thought we'd get actual sized kalbi not pieces with two tiny bites on them. This is not something I would feel comfortable sharing at a party. I have ordered their duck fat fried rice in a tray and that was fine. Quite disappointed in the meat. I'm never fond of Korean food, mainly because in most restaurants the spiciness can be over powering or none at all. But this place has just the right about of spiciness to all their dishes! Coming from town, the drive is quite far but it's worth all the drive and the traffic. The ambiance is comforting and the service here is amazing! Food - Our group got most of the pupus and it's hard to pick which is my favorite. From the Calamari to the Steak bulgogi tacos, it was just amazing. The mondo had also the right crisp to every bite. And their Kimi waffle fries are so delicious! Many of the dishes come in large portions so be extra weary when ordering! We had to take quite a few take out boxes! And last but not least, their soju was definitely worth a try - my personal favorites were the lihing, and white gummy! Even the drinks we had a Moscow Mule and Lilikoi Soju were great. Decided to check out DB Grill since we were in the Kapolei area. They are located in the Kapolei Shopping center next to the Movie Theater with tons of parking. I guess they are known for their "Soju mixes" as everyone there seemed to have a Carafe in front of them. My wife and I opted out of Alcohol just as we would have a long drive home through DUI checkpoints. We decided just to fill our bellies. We ordered the Duck Fat Fried Rice with egg, Boom Shroom, Sizzling Kalbi and my favorite, sizzling "Sisig" with jalapeños. Sisig is a Filipino dish with savory flavors usually made from some parts from the pigs head, ears and belly. It sounds gross but trust me, it's delicious. I didn't get my servers name but he was awesome. Not sure if he was the manager but he was on point with all the tables around us and other employees seemed to go to home for questions. Always checking if anyone needed anything. Even the girl serving water made sure no glass was empty. They must be the "in spot" as even the bartender knew customers by name. Finally got a chance to try this place. I didn't expect the setup to be what it is. Nothing bad to say, just caught me by surprise. Thought it was just a Steakhouse. It's actually more of a modern bar setup that serves family style dishes. Everything's Ala carte. Staff was at a younger age, very attentive, and knew the menu well. They gave us recommendations, and we took their advice. We had Kalbi, Duck Fat Fried Rice, Ribeye Steak, Chicken Wings, and Pork Bao Buns. To sum it up, everything was right on spot. Every item was good, Ribeye was soft and tender seasoned perfectly, Pork Bao Buns were soft and the pork had the right texture very flavorful. But my favorite was the Kalbi. My husband and his coworkers always eat here since it's really close by their workplace and he brought me home the mushroom bao buns and the boom shrooms and I fell in love with them!! The seating is a bit funky - 50/50 chance you get barstools, which suck for women with purses because there's nowhere to hang your purse and you have to sit it on the disgusting floor. They really need to figure that out... Purse hooks under the tables, please! Otherwise, the drinks are yummy, but very small. I think they could put them in bigger glasses for the amount they charge. The food is interesting. It's not really one cohesive genre of food... But a lot of strange things that don't necessarily go together. It's hard to find an actual meal because they serve things appetizer style and the menu descriptions don't really prepare you for what you're going to get. I ordered Pork belly with an easy egg on top, and it was basically a bowl of bacon. It was delicious, but not at all what I was expecting. It could've been served over rice or mashed potatoes and been a meal but it wasn't. I would order it again as an appetizer, but not as a meal. Same with the fried rice, that I love there...
