Excellent food. Good price. No real complaints here. I got a bulgogi bento box and it was just the right amount of food, and a good portion of meat (sometimes places skimp on the meat). The gyoza was good and the sides were also solid, though I'm not a kimchi fan. It's a counter order place so if you are sticking around to eat you need to go get your own cutlery from the table near the front counter. Seating area is rather small. Dawon serves up the most amazing, comforting, authentic Korean food in the Allen area, and their bento options are my absolute favorites! When I previously worked in Allen, this was the place I'd go for lunch. They have these bento boxes that were filling, delicious, and worth the cost! Each bento usually lasts me for lunch and dinner, which isn't bad considering they were only $12 (prices probably went up now). I always get the bulgogi bento. It came with rice, bulgogi, banchan (cucumber, kimchi, cabbage, fish cakes), and fried egg, making these bentos super colorful!! My boyfriend asked to change some side dishes because he doesn't like zucchini & kimchi and the owner was super accommodating. I only dined in once after they reopened their dining area but it's a very cute space. The restaurant is a little dark, and they use disposable utensils. I'll preface this review by saying that I'm giving them five stars based solely on just how amazing the food was. When coming to this restaurant, I expected something more full service dining but found something closer to a small cafe. They no longer served alcohol, the water was self service and I had to order at the counter before finding a table. I could drop my review a star for this until the food came. I let her know I was vegetarian and she made sure that the main dish and side dishes were all vegetarian friendly. This is now self service fully, so don't expect any service. we went there on a sat, there were already two tables filled. We were the third in the row. Ordered food n it took 45 mins to reach. Good quality is in general average. We probably won't come again. If you are in Plano, maht gaek is definitely better. No doubt about it. 1. Seafood pancake: 2/5 ( over fried. Hard n crispy, inside is too soft. I suspect not fully cooked. Very sticky) 2. Don katsu bento: 3/5 ( the pork was not marinate enough before frying. Tasteless) 3. Pork bento :3.5/5 ( well marinated. I've been to this restaurant when they were in Plano, but I haven't been back since. It's located in an almost deserted shopping center in Allen, but then again there are no other Korean places around thus the competition is slim to none. It is a small restaurant and there was only one table on a Sunday lunch afternoon, but then we did come shortly after they opened. They are kid friendly. The a/c must not have been working, because it was pretty warm in there. I got the bibimbop. My mom ordered the seafood soup combo - the first one on the menu. My husband ordered the spicy pork. The bibimbop wasn't anything special, but the other dishes were awesome! The appetizers were spot on with the provided variety and the tastes. My favorites were the potatos, the salad, the kimchi, and the cucumber. If only I could eat rice with the appetizers - that's all I ever really want! What a great hidden gem in The middle of Allen! I remember this place when they were in Richardson. I am glad that they keep their dishes as authentic as they can. I went there with the intention to order 2 bento boxes because I remember their meals being so tasty & homemade. It did not disappoint! The donkatsu was lightly battered & not oily. Rice was cooked to perfection & the kim chee was on point- not too salty or too hot! The galbi I was seasoned just right for me, but I think some might want more shoyu. Hands down the ONLY place to go for authentic Korean food in Allen AND super friendly and fun service. The owner is soooo nice and went OVER the TOP with serving us and all our kids. Hands down Galbi (beef short rib) has to be one of the dishes you need to order. In fact it's the only dish our kids eat, and dining with our friends, we needed to order 2 orders just for 5 kids. Second, the adults favorite was the spicy pork dish with onions and tofu. There are no words... The seafood pancake is a great appetizer to get as it comes out first and is stuffed with all kinds of seafood. The tofu soup is spicy (and you get a ton of rice bowls) and full of anything you imagine in it. Comes out bubbling and super hot (temp). We also had to get the Dolsot Bibimbap. Comes out beautifully presented with all the toppings lined up pretty in the bowl. We had to mix it up and add the hot sauce so beautiful presentation ruined! I've never been to this location before now but I'll definitely be back! The location in Plano on Custer used to be my favorite Korean restaurant in the metroplex but it's kind of gone down. This one was awesome! I was a little surprised to see 5 solid stars but after eating here I can see why now! The service and food both definitely deserved 5 full stars. They had all of the banchan that I asked for plus more. Our dwagee bulgogi was great, the soondubu jjigae was great, and the banchan and service were perfect! I really love this restaurant. So far we ordered take out twice and every single time our family just enjoyed their dishes. It reminds me a lot when my mom used to cook Korean food for us using only fresh ingredients and no MSG (which is huge for me!). Im thankful that I can enjoy food without feeling the need to drink gallons of water and having a huge headache. It really means they know how to cook well using only simple ingredient and don't cut corners like some Asian restaurant having to have to use Msg just to make their food tasty. Anyways... we ordered their ddukboki, Galbi, Chicken BBQ, kimchi jjigae, chicken fried rice and pajeon. The ddukboki was well seasoned and filled with cabbage, odeng (fish cake) and even with mandu (gyoza) and egg. Hubby and I devoured it. Their entree are solid as well. Their seasoning are not too sweet or spicy but just well balanced and the meat is cooked well (still juicy). They are also very generous with giving out banchan (side dishes) and again everything taste good! A great indicator for a good Korean restaurant is their kimchi (which is the base of all Korean food) and yes it is good. (cabbage still has a crunch, nicely seasoned and spicy). It might be not your fancy and his Korean BBQ place but if you crave some solid Korean dishes (cooked with some love and care) then this is a place you should definitely try. I found you again! Love this place. This used to be in Plano but has now moved to Allen-same owner. Located in a little strip mall at Allen Heights and Main St. I've eaten here twice now, and I'm so happy! The owner here is super nice and friendly. Side dishes are great! Super flavorful and fresh. I, as usual, order the yukgaejang which is delicious. Broth is good and the portion is good. We also ordered soon tofu which was over the top delicious!
