We had a set of outdoor sling chairs with fraying material. We called Davis Upholstery and were told they could order the material. Deb had the fabric sample books set out for us and allowed us to take them home to find ones we liked. We saw four patterns we liked and emailed her back to get pricing. We made our selection. We soon heard back that Deb was having trouble finding a supplier for the fabric. A bit later she contacted us again to say that our choice, as well as two of the others, was no longer available, so we went with the fourth choice. Then there was a delay in the manufacturer shipping the fabric. Once it arrived we had Deb and her crew sew the ends to match the original fabric pattern to fit into the chair frames. Deb drove the fabric out to Chico to rush the sewing since it had been almost two months since we had placed the order. Apparently there isn't much demand to recover sling chairs. I guess most people just replace them. This must have been very frustrating for Deb and Davis Upholstery. We are now happy that the chairs are useful again. read more

I inherited 2 Barcelona style chairs from my mother that were in terrible condition. In addition to 40 years of use, a dog had chewed through the straps and a cushion on one chair. I took the chairs to Davis Upholstery where Deb and her crew did a fantastic job reupholstering these chairs. Deb did extensive research on the tricky task of replacing the straps. In addition to the attention to the straps, all the details that make this chair special-the buttons-the tufting, the piping, the cushion attachments- were beautifully done. $$$$ Be prepared to bring your credit card (or be able to refinance your house). I have had cushions recovered here for decades(Isince the 90's) After a few phone calls was able to connect with Deb. Needed 2 single chair and 1 loveseat chair cushion for a low end patio set recovered. I mistakingly thought this was a quick process (really not that picky). Paid $200 for the set (including cushions) 4 years ago. Definitely not high end. Have looked--can't find any to buy so thought I would recover. After talking to Deb trying to figure out what she needed from me (wanted pictures of something..... had the cushions so couldn't figure out what she wanted pics of).... around $1000...she wasnt sure though-- might be more. She had to connect with the upholsterer who was out of town. $1000...Very interesting conversation. read more

Our 60 year old + treasured family rocking chair was in need of recovering. We contacted 4 of the highly rated shops in Davis and Sacramento for quotes, recommendations, and pricing. We liked the interaction with Zach and Deb from the beginning. We were switching from a fabric to leather and it was a 50th wedding anniversary gift so we wanted it perfect. Zach recommended we take a short trip to the hide warehouse and choose our hide from thousands in stock. Great recommendation and we picked out the perfect hide without a second mark up. Hi, Watch every thing you do with this company. The infrastructure is unbelievably bad. The records and phone contact were the worst. They lost my order, then found it when I called months later, lost my fabric, and then brought the deal in double the estimate. I understood that the 300 hundred dollar deposit was much closer to the total than the 280 dollar close out fee would suggest. The work however, was good. So, if you can navigate and document your own account and have several seasons to wait, go for it. However, a quick trip to Sacramento will give you many more option. read more

Zach does great work! We had him reupholster and re-seat a set of oak 100-year old dining chairs, and install new padding and seat springs in a 20-year old leather loveseat. All the work was excellent. Everything came back beautiful and like new.
