He told me his name too -- wish I could remember it so that I could mention him here now, but can't seem to remember it either -- I'm very very bad with names. Davis street espresso is soooo good! I stopped by on a whim and the line out the door was a sign I was in for a treat. The staff were so nice, the reusable glass jars are cute and smart! I had a chance to try this coffee place twice and was recommended to go here because of their apparently well, roasted coffee and freshly baked bread. Upon coming to this place, you will recognize that they indeed do make their bread fresh which you can watch as you walk in. They also roast their coffee and, I suspect, their own butter. This is a great place to get a pourover Coffee, especially for coffee, snobs, and a really good tasting piece of bread, whether you want it with butter, cinnamon, sugar, or avocados. . I appreciate Davis Street's attempt to reduce waste, however, when I received my coffee to go in a glass jar I requested a fabric cover so as not to burn my hand. The barista simply said I did not need one and went on with his work. The glass jar was so hot that I could hardly hold it. Terrible customer service and my feedback is #1 when paying for an $8 glass jar of coffee and I requested a cover (as it is advertised that to go containers come with a cover) , the barista should have accommodated. #2 when a coffee shop markets to-go containers in a glass jar and markets that upon RETURNING the jar you recoup a $1, if a customer asks for a fabric cover, why not just smile and accommodate? Training is needed to ensure staff consider the customer. Needless to say, I will not return, and I suggest you do not either. read more

Looking over some of the reviews, I feel that many people aren't expecting the experience one gets at Davis Street. It's really kind of a "coffee geek" kind of place, where one comes to really get to the essence of actual coffee, and not the kind of stuff that comes from Starbucks or the like. This place was recommended by members of an online coffee forum as a place where I could get a really good tasting straight up espresso. No sweetener, no milk, just a little ol' shot of super strong coffee drawn under pressure. And they delivered! I spoke to the barista working the machine (a big three group lever machine), and he's definitely a fellow coffee geek. I watched as he measured the coffee dose to the tenth of a gram, and used an Acaia Lunar scale on the drip tray as he pulled the shot to get the yield just right. They had their normal espresso blend from Oak Cliff Coffee Roaster, plus another from a different roaster as their premium offering. I tried one of each, and both were quite nice, especially the premium one. Each was served in a "proper" service, a small espresso glass with a sparkling water chaser. Thick, rich, and delicious! No bitterness or astringency, they were both just right. When my wife looked for sweetener and cream for her pot of tea, she discovered that this place, well, really focuses on the coffee and tea :) They have one communal container of turbinado sugar and a pitcher of half and half, and that's it. No "alt milk", no sugar substitutes, just the bare minimum. Again, this place is really aimed at true coffee lovers,. I'd gladly visit this place again, they're putting out a great product! read more

We were excited to try this espresso spot as they were listed as seed oil free. When ordering, I tried to get a decaf flavored coffee, couldn't do it. So I reluctantly ordered a caffeinated coffee. Their flavor selections were pretty scarce for coffee. One person in our party ordered a black tea, it was very weak flavored to the taste. I ordered their cinnamon roll, pretty bland, not enough cinnamon. The lady that took our order was snippy and not very accommodating. We wanted a piece of their bread pudding warmed up, she stated we never warm our pastries. Overall, we have no reason or desire to return to this coffee shop. read more

On my way to Austin I looked up this place on google. They do not do to go cups for coffee. You buy a mason jar, or simply make a deposit for one, and can bring it back next time you want coffee to go. I also bought a loaf of bread and banana bread. Everything was fresh and tasty. 2nd time having oak cliff beans, and I just think its not my preferred bean. so many small things I was disappointed with from the overall experience. togo cups are not a thing, cost $2 if you wanted your drink togo. The bar stool type chairs were wobbly. No alternative milk options I got an iced mocha latte regular milk the beans were just off from normal. I was skimming around, with a packed house, but no one was bringing their cup up to drink it. Sweetness was lacking. Tried my friends vanilla cold brew, as someone new to cold brew, it felt "ok" but he loves cold brew but did not like the drink. Oak Cliff is by far one of my favorite roosters in the area. When we moved to TX they were probably my second local roaster to try so when I see that locations carry their beans, I know I won't be disappointed. I was super excited to finally visit Davis Street Espresso but the only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because they don't have alternative milks. It's 2022...come on. At this rate people are willingly paying $1.00 more for oat/almond/soy milk. Do I like having to do that? No. Do I do it because I have a dairy allergy? Yes. The other stars go to the location, (I love being in that area and exploring and supporting the local businesses). The ambiance is really cool too and walking into seeing a bunch of bread loafs is delightful lol. The smell of coffee + bread = heaven. Also, the gal working this AM was really patient. My kiddo was as little all over the place but she thought he was funny and moved quickly so we could be on our merry way. I ended up getting cold brew which comes in a brown glass bottle. Amazing! I've tried somewhere around 20 "craft coffee" shops in DFW, and Oakcliff Coffee Roasters / Davis Street Espresso are in the top 3 for sure. The coffee is expertly crafted by baristas who obviously are passionate about what they do and where they work. The baristas are super kind and welcoming, and they are also incredibly knowledgeable. The bags of beans are freshly roasted and fairly priced (I paid $12 for a bag today, which is wild with the rising prices of coffee beans globally). Also, the cinnamon roll I had today literally changed my life. I'm a self-proclaimed "cinnamon roll extraordinaire," and that was one of the best I've ever had. Worth a visit! Side note: if you spend over $50 (which isn't hard when you buy a bunch of beans for your friends) you get a sweet tote bag. read more

One of the best coffee shops in Dallas! I learned about this place from the Reddit community /r/Coffee during a discussion about the best coffee shops in Dallas. I'm very familiar with the shops in the north DFW suburbs (Plano/Frisco/Lewisville/etc.) but I hadn't explored south Dallas. So glad we did! This place is a haven for coffee enthusiasts as they have a great selection of beans to choose from (it helps that Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters is next door, although they offer more than just their beans), lots of brewing equipment to browse, and even some coffee books to read/buy (including Scott Rao's "Everything But Espresso). They also have a GORGEOUS Kees van der Westen Mirage 3 group espresso machine that is a joy to stare at. I had the Van Buren (their name for a cortado) and flipped through Scott Rao's book while contemplating what a unique experience I was having in relation to most other shops.
