Located in the Bishop Arts District, this donut shop provides a modern look with some of the best delicious one-of-a-kind donuts that you will ever try. Let's break down the food that I had there shall we? Horchata Donut - probably one of the best I've ever had, very flavorful and delicious! Traditional Glazed - can't go wrong with a classic, moist and wonderful to eat! Terry Blacks BBQ Brisket and Cheddar Kolache - wowee what a partnership and it was so delicious! Vanilla Bean Latte - great flavor, lover of lattes, gotta grab a coffee, what a great choice to complement! To start - I like this location in the spring/fall because of the outdoors seating. The way the sun shimmers through the leaves creates a gorgeous afternoon vibe. The bathroom is clean and the self serving water is aplenty. Now for the food - Brisket kolache is great, I will always get this again. Horchata donut has a layer of cream inside which I like. It's more yeast like, which I prefer in a donut. New banana coffee donut was interesting, I really liked the crumby part outside but wish the coffee flavor stood out more. Vanilla drink with whole milk - the vanilla shots were strong and should've done oat milk instead. I came to this place on my birthday to kick the day off with a sweet treat. The premise behind this place sounds so promising. I really appreciate novelty and creativity when it comes to something as simple as donuts. There was a lot of excitement in coming to check out this place. Upon entry, I was pleasantly surprised by the clean industrial new space I proceeded to make my way to the counter to pick up an order. I sat down with my Horchata donut and Boston cream donut. I tried the Boston cream doughnut first. It was OK. I didn't quite care for their Bavarian or their chocolate frosting. Bavarian was missing vanilla and sweetness. Chocolate flavor was muted. Because they made their Horchata donut with meringue, the sulfur smell of the egg whites was stinky. They should've gone with whipped cream, which is less stable, but more delicious with no sulfur compounds. If something doesn't smell good it won't taste good either. No Horchata flavor and not enough sweetness. It was dry too despite having meringue. It seems like they were trying to mimic a Tres leches with using meringue. What made the experience come to an abrupt unpleasant end was that there was a light brown curly hair in the Horchata donut that I had only discovered after taking one bite from the horchata donut. Of course it was gross. I'm attaching a photo of the donut with the hair in it. I reported it to the staff, and they said that they would issue a refund for the donut that had the hair in it. To think how many people handled that donut before it made its way to the dining area also feels like a lack of checks and balances. No staff member saw the donut with a hair on it -- even while boxing it in their hand --on a to go order? Not the baker. Not retail staff. No one. This is one of those things that should be preventable -- which shows there is gaps in how employees handle their hair control in the context of preparing the donuts. It absolutely sucked that their collective carelessness leaked through to the customer experience and product. read more

While waiting for our reservation time at another spot we walked around Bishop Arts for a bit and ended up at this place. The customer service was great. I wish I could remember the name of the person who helped us. They were friendly and answered all of our questions. I came in the middle of the day so it was pretty empty and the donuts weren't super fresh, but that's on me for the time I came. The pistachio butter latte is one of the best pistachio latte's that I've tried, wow 12/10 so good! As for the donuts, the churro was super good and I really like the cream cheese filling 8/10. However, since the recent recipe changes, the glazed donuts have been less fluffy and light and at times the glaze is tacky vs the smooth flaky coating of yesteryear. This review is NOT a reflection of the team. They are always so kind and understanding whenever I ask "are the glazed donuts soft today?" With Salty's menu expansion, I was hesitant to show excitement; how can a restaurant be good at "everything" on their menu after adding more items. My boyfriend and I asked the front cashier about how fresh their donuts get made and she replied that they get made at 7 AM. My boyfriend loves fresh donuts (like coming out of the fryer fresh) and it was probably in the afternoon when we got there. She wasn't the nicest to us honestly after we asked that question and the interaction felt very off so we left. As we left, we heard her complain about us to her coworker and for it being unreasonable to make them fresh... I don't know it left a bad taste in my mouth, so we will likely just go try at a different location earlier in the morning. Such a cute place! I was on my way for a hair cut and had time to spare. I thought "oh a doughnut and a coffee would hold me over!" Then I was like "???" I thought "this is pretty pricey for a doughnut." I got to the counter and I realize one doughnut could probably feed about 4 people LOL these are CAKES made to look like a doughnut!!! I had such a great experience here! The cashier/barista was incredibly friendly and helpful, which made the visit even better. The patio is really nice with a breeze and a relaxing vibe that makes it perfect for hanging out. I tried the cookie donut, and it was amazing. And, after ordering all the things they stood in front of the register talking-oblivious to the other customers waiting to order and with no money. We went to The Salty Donut on a whim and the Yelp recommendations. The service was great - everyone was very nice and accommodating. The atmosphere is cute - and fits right into the neighborhood. Mmm..I'll try the other location next time. What I got: Candied pistachio white chocolate, gingerbread French toast, and cinnamon cereal milk latte. The latte was solid, nothing to rave about. The candied pistachio was pretty damn good - no complaints for this one. I wish there was a stronger gingerbread flavor for the french toast donut, but it was still delicious. Atmosphere: I'm not a fan of the heart of Dallas; streets have more craters than the moon and parking is practically non existent. Having that said; it's the location I'm not a fan of - not the establishment. My car is slightly lowered, but even driving 1mph at an angle nearly took off my bumper when I was turning into their parking lot. The shop itself is clean, has plenty of tables and even has quite the patio. Service: Only one guy was working the front. What a cute little donut shop with so many different flavors! They do have vegan and gluten free options. I went with the vegan option which was a cinnamon crunch. Donuts are about $5 each. 2 of our kids got the chocolate glazed donuts and one got 6 assorted donut holes. One comment was, "Their donuts are too big." And another was, "The donuts are WAAAAAY too messy." My 2-cents, "The donuts are waaaaay too expensive for our taste. (I'm used to $1.50 Tim Horton's donuts.)" Nonetheless, the vibe is super chill. I'm a big fan of the salty donut! I've been to this and the downtown location multiple times. I love trying all the new and seasonal items! Today i couldn't help myself and didn't $40 on donuts. I didn't buy any of those this time but since my mom is gf I'm always looking for those things- especially in bakeries. I ate the poptart first- it was really too pretty to eat. So delish. I wish the layers of pastry were a touch thinner but so yummy and beautifully decorated! The merengue on the horchata donut is nice, not overly sweet. I haven't had much merengue so it's a fun treat. Also looks cool to have the little torch marks on top. (I need to get myself a kitchen torch!) I've had the pear crumble before so i knew it was epic already- got it bc my son wanted to try it. Texas sheet cake is a delish chocolate cake donut. I've tried this one before too. It's solid and basic. Can't go wrong.
