Interacting with David was a complete waste of time. He is unprofessional and clearly doesn't think honesty is important. I connected with David on Thursday. First we communicated here in the Yelp app and then we spoke by phone. We discussed the work that needed to be done, agreed on a price, and he was scheduled to arrive on Sunday morning around 8:30am. In our text messages, I asked if his business was insured. He said it was, so I provided my email address and asked that he share a copy of his certificate of insurance. He said he would send it and call on Saturday to confirm the clean up appointment. He never called on Saturday. He never emailed me the insurance certificate. On Sunday at 8:30am, he did not show up. Close to 8:45a, I called to ask if he was still coming. No answer. At 9:47am, I received this voicemail: "I'm sorry I didn't call you yesterday to confirm our appointment for today. My insurance expired on Friday. I was trying to work it out with another company to get my insurance and liability for my business. So I'm really sorry if you get this message. You can call me back. Thank you very much, and have a nice Sunday." So, David must have known about his insurance situation when we talked on Thursday, which means he was knowingly dishonest with me. Even if what he said was true, which I don't believe it is, he could have told me on Friday so I could make other arrangements to get the work done. He also could have called me at any point on Saturday or even Sunday morning, but he chose to do neither. Cleaning the yard was a surprise gift for my husband, but the gift was ruined because David chose to be dishonest. Take your business and your hard-earned money elsewhere. read more

We hired David to design and install sod, concrete and a retaining wall in our back yard. He was pleasant to talk to and sounded positive that the work will be done well and within our time frame. Here are the issues we had with him: 1. He didn't show up when he said he would, on some days he didn't show up at all. Initially he stated that he would work on our yard on Friday, Saturday and Sunday but when he didn't show up on the first 2 Sundays we asked him and he said he actually was off that day. I wish he would have been honest about it given that most days he came in at noon, did a few hours of work then left. 2. He didn't put a drainage system in our entire backyard, so when the project was done and the sprinklers were on our yard started flooding. We had to dig a small trench for water to flow through. It took 2 weeks for him to come back and 'fix' the problem. We insisted that he put in a French drain, which he did after much back and forth. 3. The sod was not properly installed, the ground underneath is uneven and when it rains it's a muddy mess. The sod is very superficial, there's hardly anything for the grass to hold on to. We will have to eventually have it all pulled out and redone with proper drainage. We are very reasonable and we really wanted to like his work. I would not recommend David's landscaping for any big jobs. His price might be lower than most but the quality of work was not good at all. Please see pictures below. read more

After a regretful experience, I initially took down my review of David's Landscaping last year at their request, as they promised to refund us. However, a year later, we are still waiting for the full reimbursement, so I feel compelled to re-post my review as a cautionary tale. Save yourself the hassle and choose a different company. Please take a look at the attached pictures of how our yard looked when David asked for final payment, and keep that in mind.   Working with David's Landscaping in American Canyon turned into an absolute nightmare. Despite obtaining quotes from three other contractors, we decided to go with David based on initial impressions. Unfortunately, that decision proved to be a big mistake. After beginning the landscaping project, they disappeared without a word after just one week. It took over two weeks and my phone call to finally get them back on site, leaving our property in a state of disarray and causing significant inconvenience.   Upon their return, it became painfully clear that the quality of their work was abysmal. Everything they did seemed to be done incorrectly. The final outcome was a disaster. David asked for another chance to fix the issues, promising that we would be their top priority and the job would be completed within a week. Against our better judgment, we agreed to give them another opportunity. However, it proved to be yet another wrong choice. They continued their pattern of showing up late in the evenings, disrupting our family routines, including dinner time. The breaking up of our expensive flagstone into unusable pieces was infuriating, necessitating additional purchases for replacements. At that point, we had seen enough and asked them to stop the work, take their tools, and move on. We were left with no choice but to hire a completely different company to redo all of their substandard work.   Hiring a new company seemed like a glimmer of hope, but it turned out to be even worse than we anticipated. The sod installation done by David was a complete disaster - too high, roots showing without proper drainage and with an inexplicable arch in the middle instead of a proper slope away from the house. It needed to be entirely redone. Moreover, due to improper capping of the sprinkler system, two of our newly planted trees drowned, resulting in the need to purchase replacements.   David's Landscaping wasted not only our time but also our hard-earned money. Despite repeated promises to refund us for the improperly done sod, it all amounted to empty words. Over a year has passed, and they have only paid us half of what they owe, demonstrating a shocking lack of accountability and responsibility. The financial impact was substantial, delaying other home improvements we had planned. Thankfully, we had the foresight not to pay them the full asking price upfront.   In conclusion, I strongly advise against hiring David's Landscaping for any project. Their unprofessionalism, poor quality work, extensive delays, and broken promises have left us deeply dissatisfied and out of pocket. Spare yourself the headache and frustration by choosing a more reputable and reliable landscaping company. read more

He put in: -cleared out all the existing weeds and "junk" from our backyard -two decomposed granite areas -a planter retaining wall with seating -a wood deck -new grass -sprinkler & drip system -decorative rock borders -updated and improved our stone pathway -planted all our plants -new front yard border fence with our neighbor As you will see, he did beautiful work. Most reasonable bid in the area. He never stops until the work looks perfect. He works with all of your ideas, but is also able to share his expertise on a project. If you have any changes, he works with you to make sure everything turns out exactly as you want. He is such a great guy, he even helped us set up a canopy on the day of my son's graduation party when he was just stopping by to make some final touch- ups. David made my front yard look amazing and he built a 135ft retaining wall and fence along the North side of my property. The work was exceptional and fair priced. He was the only contractor that suggested using wood beams as the retaining wall material to help cut down on cost. That brought the price down thousands of dollars. Working with David was really easy, he communicated what to expect for that day and at the end of the day he gave us a progress report. He was clear about when they would be there. They kept the work site clean, as clean as you can expect given the demolishing a retaining wall and moving tons of dirt, they listened to my neighbors concerns and made sure that they were addressed so that the neighbors were happy with the work as well. When we had to stop work because of the materials shortage, he kept us up to date on when they would be able to get back to work. The finished product is exactly what we had hoped it would be and we couldn't be happier. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is there was a lag during the project other than the materials problem. David promised it would only take a little over a week to get the job done but, after working with him for awhile, it seems his standard answer for a time frame is "two weeks". It was a bit frustrating to be promised a finish date of "next week" and then have it pushed to "next week" two more times without any explanation. To be clear, that's in addition to the materials shortage. That added a week and a half to the project and then there was this added "two weeks" or "next week" delay. My TLDR advice on working with David is that the work is great and he's responsive and reliable. Just don't have a tight deadline and have a bit of a sense of humor about the "two weeks" but not so much that the project lasts indefinitely. read more
