Great communication, expert advice, hardworking workers, great skill and attention to detail. Went beyond what would have met our expectations. A large deck with previously-applied protective coatings: It was meticulously sanded down to beautiful bare wood and given two carefully-applied coats. The price? Just a little over half the open-ended estimate of a large, well-known and reputable company. Would we recommend them? You betcha. Santos and his team rock! read more

My family couldn't be happier with the results. We had a large deck with two staircases built and the entire experience and outcome exceeded our expectations. The builders did a beautiful job and their attention to detail was great. As a small example, I love how they cut the hogwire on the stair's railing to remain parallel with the rest of the deck. I've seen other builders who angle the wire with the stairs which ends up looking weird. They provided great input along the way, both practical and aesthetic which helped us with specific design outcomes. They even demolished and filled an old water pit which was a hazard for our kids and also affecting water runoff. Santos was prompt and communicative and he gave us the confidence to move forward. I am very grateful they finished this project quickly knowing we are expecting a new baby (today actually). They genuinely made our house feel more like a home with this project and I recommend 100%. Thank you! read more

Santos did our exterior stairs including making the foundation, and creating the stairs. He is extremely easy to work with, maintains the highest standards, and all on time and within our budget. The job had a lot of details and needed to be done according to a plan - Santos was able to anticipate areas of concern and help us easily get thru inspection. From the initial consultation to the final cleanup, Santos demonstrated absolute professionalism, clear communication, and an incredible work ethic. Santos & team were punctual every day, kept the workspace clean, and finished the project right on schedule and within our agreed budget. Santos and his guys are great! They came in and completely redid a deck and railing that had been botched by a prior contractor. The quality of the workmanship was excellent, communications were good and the pricing was reasonable. I will hire them again for sure! They also got started within a day and finished on the schedule they had promised. read more

Santos is AMAZING! He rebuilt my 1,200 foot deck in a way that was so professional and so staggeringly gorgeous. I wanted to preserve the original design but he found so many subtle ways to honor that vision while improving it enormously, adding a beautiful border and arranging all the boards so there would be no seams. He is incredibly creative and artistic in addition to being rock solid on structural fundamentals. He also has enormous integrity, character, and honesty. Every day I look at his work with incredible gratitude that our paths crossed. He also built a gorgeous redwood fence in a neighbor situation that was unpleasant and contentious and he told me that another side fence had 10 years left in it and didn't need to be replaced -- he built a PT base instead where the redwood had rotted. Santos is a gift to Marin. I can't recommend him highly enough. read more

Exceptional craftsmanship and professionalism! Santos Hernandez and his team did an outstanding job at my house. The quality of their woodwork was excellent -- you can really see the attention to detail in every board and finish. Santos personally oversaw the design, implementation, and completion of the entire project, making sure everything was done right. The job was completed quickly, at a very fair price, and the results exceeded my expectations. His crew was hardworking, respectful, and left the worksite spotless each day. I highly recommend Santos for anyone looking for top-quality carpentry or deck work -- honest, skilled, and truly reliable from start to finish! read more

Exceeds expectations. This was a tough job, crumbling steps of irregular rise and tread, uneven concrete. Santos' team figured a solution to every problem and executed beautifully. I will use him again. His price was also quite a bit lower than other bids. read more

Santos did an amazing job on our home. He redid our entire front path and driveway. The path was all recycled/broken concrete and did not look good. He made it all look amazing and we get a lot of compliments now. He is very responsive, detailed, and shows up right when he says he will. I highly recommend Santos and his team! read more

I had a tricky problem with my driveway--the angle was so steep that the middle of my car would scrape every time I went in or out. Santos came up with a smart solution and did an excellent job regrading the area. What really impressed me was his idea to first pour two simple "test strips" of concrete at the new angle so we could check for clearance before committing to the full job. It was such a thoughtful approach that gave me confidence the final result would be right. Once we confirmed it worked, he completed the project with rebar and a matching finish to the rest of the driveway. Throughout the process, Santos was very communicative, keeping me updated and explaining each step clearly. His price was fair--right in line with some other estimates I received and much more reasonable than others. Now my driveway works perfectly, no more scraping, and the quality of the work is excellent. I'd highly recommend Santos and his crew to anyone --he's professional, creative, and reliable. read more

Santos is a Saint! We interviewed at least 7 landscape contractors and once we met Santos we knew he was the one. We went over the project scope and he texted me one number for the total project. I had never seen this before and was expecting an itemized estimate. So he came back, we went through the scope again, got clear on what was included in the number and what wasn't. It was a very fair amount for the scope of the work and he got my vision down to the detail. He also had a can-do attitude and was easy to problem solve with on the areas we were unclear on. The work we had done included: some tricky grading and water run-off issues including a French Drain, installation of artificial turf, a stone patio and walkway, Cumaru deck, steps and retaining wall, framing out aluminum privacy panels with Cumaru, Redwood fence and two pergolas, flagstone walkway, irrigation, planting plants, and bringing in topsoil and mulch. He delivered on everything we agreed to and went above and beyond! Anyone who has been through a project like this knows that stuff comes up, things you want to add, things you didn't think about before, and all the extra details. Santos was a dream to work through these things with. He was very upfront and fair on on these "change orders" which gave us total flexibility and control over the project. Santos is more trustworthy than anyone I know and he really cares about delivering something that you will love. His staff are reliable, extremely hard working, and highly skilled. Jose is an incredible craftsman and built us a beautiful custom gate that brings us joy every time we walk through it. If you are looking for a landscape contractor, look no further. I whole heartedly recommend Santos and his crew! read more

Never heard from the man for an appointment or quote. He never contacted me after I explained what I needed done.

Santos was great. He was responsive and a good communicator. The backyard project had a couple of pivots. He always listened to my concerns and gave great input. Because of that the project turned out great. He fixed a retaining wall, put in an iron fence, repaired a staircase that winds through oak trees, added a new deck, and a paver patio. Lastly he built me a free standing fully enclosed vegetable garden. I would use Santos again in a heartbeat, and would highly recommend him. read more

Santos is such a reliable contractor to work with. He helped us with a new fence and a new front yard patio projects this year and we already plan to work with him on new ones next year! Santos has really good design eyes. For several times, he provided a few design ideas for us to choose from. More than often, he pointed out details that didn't occur to us. It was very educational to us, the first time home owners. Both projects were finished in high quality and have nice touch to the details. We look forgot working with him soon again. read more

Called 2-3 times, but the number has a full voicemail box so I was not able to leave a message. Finally got through and made an appointment, but no one showed up. An hour in to the appointment time, I called to check in and was told they're busy on another job and never intended to show up. I feel that's pretty disrespectful of my time (I took time off work) to not give any updates. read more

I highly recommend Santos for outdoor living projects. I contacted Santos after looking up many landscapers and checking yelp reviews. My project was removing a badly constructed deck and replacing it with flagstone to continue to existing patio. Then decided to extend concrete walkway to patio, replacing rear fence and installing artificial grass. I am very happy with every aspect of the project. Santos was very responsive and answered any questions I had. His prices were the most reasonable I came across. His crew is very professional and courteous. Definitely a 5 star review and I don't give them out easily. Santos motto is "If you're happy I'm happy " Thanks Mr. Hernandez. read more

In January the high winds took down the 80' redwood fence we share with our neighbors. I contacted three contractors for quotes to replace the fence based on their perfect YELP ratings. Santos Hernandez was responsive and very professional throughout the entire process. He quickly produced what turned out to be the most reasonable quote and was willing to accommodate our schedule to complete the work. Everything was done completely stress-free, on time, on budget, with workmanship that was just outstanding. Great crew...hard working, on time, professional and respectful...talented craftsmen who clearly take pride in their work. Our new redwood fence is BEAUTIFUL! Very pleased. Hope to work with Santos again when we replace our deck. read more

We had no idea what we were thinking about when we wanted to build an 800 square foot wooden deck and fence, but luckily we found Santos. He was honest and friendly, worked with us in selecting woods and styles and we felt gave us a very fair cost for all the work done (there were some bids coming in at twice as much). This also could have been a project that took months, and we had heard horror stories about nightmare contractors. Santos and his crew were the exact opposite in all the right ways. I would not hesitate in recommending him, and feel free to message me for more details. read more

Had Santos come out to make a bid. He was quick, efficient and offered a great price. I ended up going with another contractor but only because I wanted a specific hardwood used in my project, but having Santos ideas and price helped tremendously. Awesome experience hiring Santos and his team to build a concrete pad for our hot tub. We were working with a tight schedule and he was responsive and able to fit us into his busy schedule on short notice. We recently had the pleasure of working with Santos Hernandez on a significant home improvement project in San Rafael. We hired Santos and his team to build a retaining wall, stairs, and a deck in our backyard, and I must say, they exceeded all expectations. From the initial consultation to the final touches, Santos demonstrated a level of professionalism and expertise that is rare to find. He took the time to understand our vision and provided valuable insights that ultimately enhanced the design. The craftsmanship of the work is impeccable. The retaining wall not only serves its purpose but also adds a beautiful aesthetic to our landscape. The stairs are sturdy and well-built, blending seamlessly into the terrain. As for the deck, it has become our favorite spot to relax and entertain! Throughout the project, Santos and his team (Miguel and Edgar) were punctual, organized, and respectful of our property. They completed the work within the agreed timeline and budget, with no surprises along the way. Communication was excellent; Santos kept us informed of progress and any decisions that needed to be made promptly. He was always approachable and willing to address any questions or concerns we had, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience for us. Overall, I cannot recommend Santos Hernandez highly enough. If you're looking for a contractor who delivers exceptional quality, reliability, and professionalism, look no further. We are thrilled with the results of our project and would not hesitate to work with Santos again for future home improvement needs. Typically, I don't add to a conversation unless I have something original to say, but in this case all I can do is agree with the other reviewers. Santos built 2 retaining walls for us, one out of wood + one with concrete blocks, and both of them look great and will last a long time. Santos was all of the things that others say about him: knowledgeable, truthful, responsive, and trustworthy. We received good value from him as well. read more

I needed a last-minute deck repair on a tight timeline and budget. Santos came quickly for an assessment, listened carefully about the project constraints, and proposed several options to make it work. That alone made him stand out as the best option among the four contractors I had come by. His crew completed the work quickly, and was able to work around unexpected issues (plumbing, uncovered during digging). I was not charged for the extra labor and materials required for the workaround. Santos was very responsive to my detailed questions and photos over text and phone. Santos and his crew are constant professionals. We needed to get part of our deck repaired and interviewed a number of contractors for the job. Santos was very honest with his assessment of what needed to be done and did not try to upsell us on anything we didn't want. On the day of the job, the crew arrived on time, did quality work and cleaned after after it was completed. I would highly recommend him and would hire him again in the future. read more

Santos and his crew built us a pergola for our sun drenched patio. We had a vision and he brought it to life. He listens, is thoughtful, always on time, communicative and a perfectionist. I found Santos on Yelp and requested a quote from him based on the large number of 5-star reviews. Not only was his quote very competitive but the entire experience from start to finish was easy, professional, and reliable. Although the quote process was very informal (all by text, nothing in writing), Santos delivered everything he said he would for the price quoted. His team was highly professional, tidy, reliable and punctual. I had them remove our small grass yard out back and lay a concrete slab on which they installed porcelain tile with a wood look. They were extremely fast and efficient removing the grass. The process of laying the concrete and then installing the tile (done painstakingly by Jose, one of Santos' crew) was meticulous--carefully measured, graded, measured again. Extremely high quality workmanship! Santos and his crew were a pleasure to work with, and left the back yard tidy each day. They showed up on time, worked long hours (8a-6p most days), and were very professional. Santos was very communicative, both by text and phone. He informed me what would be done and when, and it all went according to plan and according to what Santos told me. I will absolutely hire Santos for any future outdoor projects, and will be telling the neighborhood (via Nextdoor) of his outstanding service! read more

Santios was very responsive. We met two days after our call and he showed up on time as he did with pricing a quote and delivering the wood deck perfectly.
