Another missing followup by Michael Persky. Always prefer t say nothing if deficit in response but this is simply dropping the ball on an important deck replacement/repair/re/build. Certainly wish Michael & Veronica the best, but can't comment on a non response & hard to endorse after a month elapsed. read more

I had Michael replace an old wooden deck that had become rotten with a new one made of composite. The whole experience was positive from start to finish. Michael's team arrived promptly, removed the old deck, and built a new frame that is far sounder and protected than the old one. He provided many samples to help us choose the best composite plank and we were very happy with the result. Finally, he did a lot of really nice work on a railing that turned out much nicer than we had imagined. We are very happy with the end result and expect our beautiful new deck to last many years. read more

Here is a clearer, more polished version of your one-star review that keeps the facts strong and professional: I hired Michael Persky to clean, prep, and stain my stairs, railings, and lattice. He quoted $5,000 for the project and requested $4,000 upfront. His crew completed the cleaning, prep work, and applied stain to the railings and lattice. However, it quickly became clear that the cleaning and prep had not been done properly, and as a result, the stain finish looked uneven and poorly done. Because of the quality of the work, I chose to terminate the contract and hire someone else to complete the job. When I spoke with Michael about my concerns, he was condescending on the phone. He later came to inspect the work and agreed to refund $200. Despite multiple attempts to follow up, I never received the promised refund. Overall, I was very disappointed with both the workmanship and the lack of follow-through. read more

This is unsolicited. Michael just finished cleaning and oiling my Ipe deck for the 3rd time. I think anyone today who has the values of honesty, clear communication, responsiveness and skilled work deserves a good word. His crew leaves a clean jobsite, I've enjoyed how I see continuity in the crew over the 3 times. So thanks Michael and we will do it again. read more

Writing this 3 years later. We had them come to Albany for a deck job and are still satisfied with the work. Crew was efficient and although they initially said they couldn't fulfill some of our requirements, they were able to figure it out in the end. read more

Great company and crew. Fastest response on quote, earliest date to start, quickest estimated time, best price for value. The crew and Michael were always on time, worked hard the entire time, cleaned up, smiled and waved at the toddler audience, and created a beautiful second story deck that all the neighbors are jealous of. I would use them again and recommend them to anyone. read more

Late last year I moved into a house that had a beautiful but aged deck and porch. I wanted to make sure that it was restored to it's full glory. Michael was a bit quiet at first, but overall a knowledgeable and organized person. If you ask him questions, he's great at explaining. He was quick to come out, give a quote, and even explained what went into the costs. He made additional suggestions, but nothing pushy. I found all his suggestions helpful. My favorite part of the project was the porch gate addition. I asked if he could build and install a porch gate that could handle my 55lb dog. He came back with a design that matched the existing railing and looked original to the porch. It's been six months, the gate has withstood my dog, and I've gotten so many compliments on the deck and gate. I'd highly recommend his work to others who want someone professional and experienced. I also personally found the prices very reasonable. read more

We loved working with DECKMASTERS! What an awesome team. They show up! They call back! Their pricing is reasonable! And they actually do legit work that is up to code! This review is a bit overdue. I called Deckmasters early in the year to replace a broken and rotting cement step that led into my dwelling. I ended up getting a great deck that enhanced the look of my home and made a spot for me to enjoy morning coffee and BBQs. I had them come back soon after for a fence project I had with hogwire. I drew the design I was thinking of and they executed it for me! I am very happy with it and how it turned out. Would not only recommend but I would absolutely use them again on other projects. read more

Decks by Woodmasters is an absolutely amazing company.  The work they did on our deck was outstanding.  They paid close attention to detail and working with Veronica was great. They were so patient and took the time with me to get it exactly the way I envisioned.  I would highly recommend them. See pictures. read more

We found this service through Yelp, so we weren't quite sure how the service would be. We were quite thrilled when it turned out just like all the other great reviews claimed. The work was done promptly and efficiently. The crew came on time and kept the dust and other work debris to a minimum. Michael is very knowledgeable and he made suggestions to make the entire porch and decks looks even better. We were really glad we took his suggestions. We've had our decks done many times over the years, but this experience stands out as the best ever. The cost was reasonable too! We will use them again in the future. read more

We have a 850 sq. ft. redwood deck that is 30 years old. Although I have tried to maintain it, the years with direct sun exposure took its toll. We also have a two landing front porch that needed some dry rot repair. I called 5 companies who claimed to do deck repair/rebuilds. Only two responded, (the others never even bothered to return my calls and emails), and came out for an estimate followed by a bid. Decks by Woodmasters was the most thorough in inspecting for damage and came in $2,200 below the other company. But it was Woodmasters reviews that sold me. My experience was exceptional and consistent with the other 5 star ratings. Jim Parks was the job foreman and was outstanding in explaining everything and managing the project. The crew showed up when promised and came every day until the project was done. Their speed and craftsmanship were top notch. Jim and crew took pride in the project as if it were their own home! Lots of extras done at no extra charge such as replacing the entire front porch with redwood, (it was pine except the steps). If you need deck or any wood structure refinished and/or rebuilt this is the only company to pick. And...thank you YELP for helping me find them. I could have made a huge and expensive mistake with the wrong company. read more

I had a really good experience working with Michael (and his crew, led by Adolfo) on some major repairs and improvements to my deck. I obtained estimates from a few contractors before choosing Michael. Michael's estimate was the most responsive to my needs, which included ensuring durability and safety on my deck while controlling cost. Michael was able to save most of the decking and framing on my deck, which substantially reduced the cost. I wanted to get started quickly, because my old deck felt unsafe and I was hoping to have visitors soon. Michael was able to slot me in before another job, but this also meant that he had to work from some "default" assumptions about what I wanted to get started and finish on time. Because of this there were a few extra charges, totalling about 5% of the job cost. These were for adding a hand railing, extending the size of a concrete landing, and affixing some planters to the deck. As another reviewer said, the crew showed up on time, when they said they would, and finished the job on schedule. Yay! As a client, I'm pretty communicative about any challenges I see. Because of this, I was able to work with Michael to ensure that the site was cleaned up after the job, and some odds and ends were properly taken care of. Clients with such a style will do well with Michael. I was happy to work with Michael on the job and am now hoping to hire him again to do some deck railing work on my front stairs. read more

Wow!! Our decks turned out amazing the amount of detail the crew did was superb. During the quote process Michael said they would sand everything first...I was skeptical they would. They did! Every board, every rail, every stair, every riser...you get the idea. The stain/sealer they used looks great and soaked in completely. Well worth the money. Don't go cheap on your decks when it comes to refinishing..you get what you pay for. Michael will be my "go-to" guy for all my decks needs going forward. read more

We needed a large deck replaced and Michael gave us a quote very promptly and scheduled our job right away. We enjoyed working with him and his crew, and the deck turned out great! He worked with us to give us the best quality product we could afford on our budget. We felt that this company really puts a lot of quality into their work - paying attention to small details and finishes that ensure the deck will last for a very long time. They inspect their work frequently and they rebuilt one thing they had installed (with no prompting from us) because it didn't meet their high quality standards. Michael worked with us to make sure our needs were met (for example, we needed a gate and a small ramp added to some stairs for our dog, and now we have them!). The team was dedicated to our job (not running between jobs) and was very dependable and professional. They got the job done very efficiently in spite of some bad weather in the middle. We had a few miscommunications in the middle of the job about extra items we added on after the original quote, but after a few emails and a personal visit from Michael, these were straightened out. This is one of the best experiences I've had with a contractor on a large job...I felt I could depend on this company and trust that they were doing a quality job and would show up when they said they would. I would not hesitate to recommend Decks by Woodmaster and I'm sure I'll work with them again. read more

We had the best experience working with Michael and his whole team. We wanted to transform our outdoor space and in just a few days they turned our disjointed deck/porch combo, into one big luxurious deck! They did such a spectacular job working around the little quirks ( made cutouts for our trees so we didn't have to cut them, installed a beautiful utility box so we could still access our water, relocated electrical switches so we still had outdoor power, and took into account safety measures so height of benches and stairs for our two small children). We could not be happier with the end result and with our experience! read more

We hired him to repair our decks. His crew were excellent and polite. However, Michael Persky, the owner needs to work on his communication style, which at times was demeaning. For example, for no particular reason, he brought up another customer, who is also Asian, whom he said, had some criminal record. So I asked him what made him think of that? Awkward silence. It was not a good experience for me. $3000 for a one day job seems high. read more

Efficient, skilled, organized and tidy. Our old, large deck was rehabilitated in a day and it looks fantastic. Reasonably priced, cost effective, quality workmanship performed by four proficient men. They replaced the dry rotted joists, some decaying redwood planks, leveled the nails and added new screws where needed. The deck was then sanded and coated with the treatment of our choice. The deck is revitalized. read more

We had some concerns that our deck beams needed replacement. Michael came by for an estimate and reassured us that the deck was stable and any work would be very costly and not lead to better stability. He was very quick to respond to my initial inquiry, knowledgeable, and answered our questions. While we didn't end up needing Deck by Woodmasters services this time, we will contact them again when we need a new deck, repair, or if friends ask for a referral! read more

Can't say enough good things about the owner, Michael. He knows what he's doing, has tons of experience, and very honest.

I can't recommend Mike and company highly enough! We were in a true pinch - a tree knocked out our fence between the time we closed on our house and moved in. Weather wasn't cooperating and we really needed the fence fixed before we moved in. We referred to Mike and within a few hours he had already checked out the site, gave us a quote, and sent a contract. He hauled away the tree and fixed the fence in less than a day. I will absolutely call on him again and encourage you to as well. read more

Working with Michael was quick and easy. I had his team build a new deck for me and they scheduled it immediately. Michael was very accommodating, took his time to explain the process, and gave me thoughtful recommendations step-by-step. I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again (and probably will) for future projects. The one (small) gripe I have is that his crew wasn't terribly good at cleanup. I found about 50 screws and nails in my adjacent lawn. Not a huge deal, but I have a small dog and he easily could have stepped on one. Not worth taking a full star off for though because our deck looks fantastic. read more

Michael gave us a complete and accurate assessment of the state of our deck and gave us a reasonable bid that included everything. While others took a wait-and-see approach, Michael had the big picture view and gave us a plan and a budget that we could understand front-to-back. He worked us into his schedule to get the work done sooner than later, arrived on time with his crew every day and finished the work on schedule. In the end, the results were terrific. Our deck is once again safe, comfortable and attractive with new support structure to go along with the cleaning, sanding and staining. We could not be happier with the results. Our 30 year-old deck is now ready and steady for many years to come. Thanks to Michael and to his crew for a job well done! read more

Don't look any further, by far masters at their trade. Michael has good vision and is on top of his crew. Communicated every step of the way. The redwood he used, you could walk barefoot on and was as smooth as silk. Michael and his team of 2 built us an ipe deck/walkway, a retaining wall, and a fence in four days. This is unheard of. The craftsmanship is stunning and the crew worked tirelessly to make sure of that. We're so glad we found these guys in the mess of mediocre contractors out there. Actually, we kind of want to leave a bad review so he's not so busy and can just help us do everything... If they have time to help you with your project, let them. I can't say enough good things about Michael and his team. I called this last week regarding possibly needing our entire back deck replaced. I had been told this needed to happen by several contractors but I wanted a deck expert to confirm this. To my delight, Michael urged me NOT to replace my deck but rather, allow him and his team to repair the rot, add more support underneath the structure, secure the railings, and sand and finish our existing wood. This option was much less money for him as it saved me thousands of dollars by not having to buy all new materials and start from scratch. Needless to say, I hired him immediately and he and his team finished in a day and a half, despite temperatures being near 100 degrees. I would highly recommend hiring Decks by Woodmasters for all of your deck needs--they were honest, efficient, showed up on time, and have my 20 plus year old deck looking like it's brand new. I'm beyond happy with the workmanship! read more

It's a year later after Michael and his great crew did the railings and refinished the deck. I had them back to stain and finish the rails and re-finish the deck. After getting quotes from several different contractors I found Michael. All I can say is that my wife and I knew immediately that we were dealing with someone honest (and I do not say this easily for contractors). He and his workers showed up very professionally and did an outstanding job, evening working on a sunday! The job required more work than originally thought (surprise, surprise with any big project), but he did not add additional costs than our original quote = Class act. He actually ended up saving me about a couple thousand dollars over the other quotes I had received, by giving me honest recommendations of what I "truly" needed and what could be left alone. I will use him and his crew without reservation in the future and I will mention him on my local "Nextdoor" community website. read more
