After - iron rail attached
Frances L.

For years we used to have two plywood blocks covering portions of the front gate to prevent neighborhood stray cats from crawling into the building. We also had an interior stairwell railing that was detached and in need of repair. I contacted MSI Ironworks to do minor repair to the railing and add iron mesh to the gate. They asked questions, requested measurements of the existing mesh that we wanted to match and were very responsive. Once onsite, they had the wrong mesh but were happy to go to the shop to pick up the correct type. The railing was repaired and is now much more stable. Overall, we are pretty happy with the results.

MSI Ironworks in Richmond,CA is fantastic! Carlos worked with my schedule and quickly fit me in for a small welding job on my Lexus GX-470 SUV. I could not be happier! Photos attached to this review. Thanks a million, Carlos!

Carlos was quick to respond to my inquiry. Responded within an hour and scheduled to come by on same day to take measurements. He gave a couple of suggestions and gave me a quote within an hour. He finished fabricating the gate after a week and scheduled installation. It looked really good and he was able to match my builder's fence, down to measurements of each bar. He even adjusted on the fly since my left side fence was lower than the right one. Did all installation in 2 hours including adjustments. I will definitely go with Carlos again for my backyard gate needs in the future.

They welded the handrail on the staircase, attaching it to the preexisting railing up top.

I was looking for a welder to install a handrail on a staircase. MSI was easy to get in touch with; they answered the phone, and we scheduled a time. They did a great job at a very fair price. They were very courteous and easy to work with. I highly recommend them!

Spectacular craftsmanship!

She had lost her identity, and all the pretty dresses in the world weren't going to make it right. Life suddenly didn't seem to matter, and with her newfound mobility she started hanging with the wrong crowd (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/qwJLYZE2xJiBBMyZ4llTBA?select=yTzQqZoPTc5zSkIOAfaZjA). She wasn't sure how it had all gone so terribly awry, and how she could get back to that safe, secure, and grounded place where she once was. After an abortive attempt to fix it using Superglue, I took Kate's stand to Weiss Welding after explaining the situation to a very understanding man on the phone. He looked at it and assured me it could easily be fixed. He was very sweet and concerned about what welding might do to the appearance of the mirrored base of the stand, but functionality was my biggest concern. A mere day and $30 later, I picked up my new and improved stand, appearing to be even sturdier than before (and the mirrored base looks completely unaltered). I pulled Kate away from making lanyards on Haight Street, plunked her back on the stand, and we were back in business. With a newfound lease on life, Kate not only has turned her life around, but has decided to give back to the community, taking part in anti-war rallies (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/qwJLYZE2xJiBBMyZ4llTBA?select=lAjc9XMtgR3wyyKX3rDz1g) and speaking out against eating disorders. Thanks to Weiss Welding, another mannequin life has been saved!

IVS Fences & Iron Works - Automatic drive way gate with pedestrian access;)

IVS Fences & Iron Works

We had a great experience with IVS Fence & Ironworks, a family business that takes real pride in…read moreits work. Our project spanned several months and included a wrought iron fence with concrete/stucco pillars, an automated sliding driveway gate, and a pedestrian gate. It was a complex job with four other subcontractors involved across design, electrical, landscaping, and stucco finishing. Ignacio, the owner, was always available by phone or text and willing to talk through ideas with us. He also would send pictures during fabrication to ensure we were aligned on design details. He was upfront about change orders, and whenever something wasn't quite right, he did his best to make it right. That kind of communication and accountability isn't something you get with every contractor. Our fence sits on a tricky slope, and Ignacio really sweated the details. He had to build the driveway gate just right and pour the concrete track at precisely the correct angle to match--and he totally nailed it. His team brought the heavy gate out several times to ensure it stayed plumb throughout its travel along the slope. He put a lot of thought into engineering something that would last--in fact, I had to talk him down from a few ideas for making the gate even sturdier! His team was respectful, friendly, and did great work. They also kept the job site clean at the end of each day, which we appreciated throughout a long project. I'd highly recommend IVS to anyone looking for thoughtful craftsmanship and a contractor who stands behind his work.

Ignacio, who came for the site visit and identified himself as the owner, was very easy to communicate with both in person and over the phone. However, Jackie, (not clear to me if she's the co-owner or Ignacio's wife) finalizes pricing and pretty much runs the show. For our project, we had picked IVS to do the work, but the price kept increasing by thousands of dollars. I asked to speak with Ignacio since these changes were inconsistent with what I discussed with him and put them week above our other quotes, but Jackie said that's not necessary since she decides the pricing. They also charge tax on materials, which no other fencers do (since they're already paying tax to Home Depot, etc.). These business practices felt disingenuous to me and like bait and switch. I've had issues in the past with businesses like this that once the work begins they'll change order you again and ask for more money. So we did not use them. For this fence, we received multiple quotes. Two companies were in the $9-10K range and IVS was around $12K. All were licensed and bonded. We went with the lowest quote and are extremely happy with our fence.
